This "school" is not a very good choice for people looking for a proper education.
first issue I am having is that; I went to school to this school because I wanted to get an education in this field from a college that knows what they are doing and teaches me only what I need to know from a technology college. I have researched other schools and triOS had good a reputation for other courses such as their networking courses and expected the web design to be the same. This is the second year triOS offered this course and the instructor has not been hired so I could determine their qualifications. I expected that triOS would hire more knowledgeable instructors with real life experience then just reading from a book. After a short while of school we all learned that the instructor’s knowledge of web design and development is fairly weak. He would teach by copying the contents of the textbook for the course we are taking onto the board and that would be our lesson, if we ever had a problem with some of the content he was teaching we were most of the time alone to find out an answer for ourselves. We have also found the computers we were using either could not run what we needed it to, or did not have what we needed it to. For example in the gaming class they were without Maya (the 3D animation program) for weeks and the teacher had to bring in his copy just so we could use it, because the school was taking so long to supply us with it. There have been many occasions when the software was not configured properly or we would have not proper security on the systems to do things. I under stand that computers are temperamental them selves but there is no excuse when it is a constant thing.
We have brought this issue to the school in monthly campus surveys from the school and brought the issue to many of the staff including the campus director. We also sent a letter (that I have enclosed with this letter) directly to the top, with all of our complaints at the time as well as signatures of all the students. Their response was not what we were looking for, it seemed like they were just avoiding our questions and showed no will to try and correct what we have been complaining about. One of their major responses was that they are giving us these textbooks to prepare us for certifications, we wont be ready for any certifications the way they are teaching. We are learning the basics from a book meant for a professional with 3-4 years of experience, it says that right in the book. The lessons and the tests are all based on this high level book and we are all just trying to grasp the basic concepts of the subject. We are also not sure that the surveys even get read. In this private college there are 7 students in the afternoon class, and more than 7 in the morning class, I am paying roughly $18, 000 for my course and there are more than 14 students in total. That totals out to at least $252, 000, that means as a class we are paying at least a quarter of a million dollars! Why can’t they afford to help us out, have better systems/software, or better teaching? I can’t help but feel that attending this school is ripping me off; I feel like I am paying for an extremely expensive baby sitter that I have to drive 30 minutes to and from every day. All I get is a 5-hour story time and a piece of paper at the end that says that I know exactly what was read to me in class. I don’t want a baby sitter I want a teacher and a school that will teach me what I came to learn.
One of the biggest problems I have with the course is that it is called Web Design/Development, I have not been taught any web design at all. The course did not teach us what we needed to know at all, we were supposed to be taught Adobe software and we were but the teacher did not teach it at all, he gave us tutorials and we sat down and read the book. The teacher has such a poor understanding of the concept that he was assigning ActionScript 2.0 questions in our ActionScript 3.0 class; there is a large difference between the two. In our SQL class not only did we learn 2005, when 2008 was available for quite some time, but all we did was copy queries from the text book, literally only copy and paste. I would have liked to learn how to build a data table and tie it to something at least, but now I have a bunch of useless knowledge on SQL. We were supposed to be taught HTML in a very short time, and we didn’t even make a web page in that class. The introduction to C# was the only good part of the course, the only problem was it was all desktop application programming, not web. Our ASP.NET class, we were supposed to go through and build a shopping cart web page, which was good in theory, but the teacher didn’t know how to do it for himself. So we were all struggling with trying to just get things to show up on a page because we have a textbook that requires 3-4 years of experience with ASP.NET already and a teacher who doesn’t have any clue about the basics, just what is written in the book. I have never seen a single web site built by the teacher, even as we were building our we page he didn’t, how can we be taught what we need to know if he can’t even create a web page himself.
I was also told that I will get a job at the end of this course, when ever they ask why we are coming here we will answer, to get a job. They are so confident that we will all get jobs, in this course I was expecting to have professional help, knowledge, and facilities to build up a portfolio that I could be hired with. Without a portfolio how would we get hired? I don’t think that any employer will hire a web developer without seeing some of their work first, no different than any other design profession.
I don’t think it is fair at all to call your self a school and charge money for this, if this is what private colleges are really like, why do we have them? Whether they are here on OSAP or self funded or funded by work, it is a complete waste of money and time for everyone. I regret wasting so much time and money on this school, and extremely disappointed that they can get away with not even considering our concerns.
All around this is a complete disappointment, and none of us in the class think this is a positive experience.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I couldn't agree more. I was enrolled in the Paralegal program and was un-enrolled improperly and without my consent simply for voicing complaints. They don't tell you upon registration that several weeks of courses are not required for the Paralegal Licensing Exam. The instructor Adeela Alvez had no idea what she was talking about, the course content wasn't covered, the classes were supposed to be four hours but were over in 1.5-2. The classes didn't start on time and the majority of the class was spent talking about her and how everyone else was wrong with everything they said. We handed in four assignments and took two exams but none of the grades were given, the assignments weren't marked and we weren't given any feedback. They are rude, unhelpful and several weeks of the classes will not help prepare your for the real world. They also pretend that you've "won" a bursary when you score any grade on the entrance test. The books are not included in compulsory fees but if you ask to buy them second hand you are sent threatening poorly written emails stating things you've never agreed to and threatening to take your "bursary" away, (considering all students are given the bursary, it's actually just the cost of the program) they also threaten to contact OSAP regarding the difference in cost for the school. The instructor also locks the computer for most of the class, making it impossible to take notes on them and follow along with the slides. Save your money and your time and go somewhere that encourages tours and doesn't smell like garbage all the time.
Adeela Alvez is an amazing teacher at Trios College, she is very knowledgeable. Adeela has taught me so much about law. She returns assignments and provides feedback to each student from what I seen. The content for the course is covered, classes start and end on time and as far as I know from my friends in the class they think the same.
Adeela Alvez is a great teacher and a paralegal. Saw her in Court argue a case -she is really good! She knows her stuff well.
I have tried to have this comment removed so that I could post another one. However, complaintsboard.com said that is impossible to delete a comment. I want to clarify what I have written in the original post and that my post is just my opinion and based only on my personal experience (as it states in the terms and conditions of this website). In my original comment I wrote that Adeela Alvez "had no idea what she was talking about, " which is obviously just my own opinion based on statements I found to be inaccurate during class, primarily when it was said that "no pet clause" in leases are enforceable in Ontario. I know this to be untrue. It is entirely possible that other students found her lessons to be informative and engaging.
I also want to add that the entrance exam does have a required grade, but it is what is required to enter the program anyway.
Once again, all of these opinions are mine and based only on my personal experience.
Adeela Alvez is a great teacher and a paralegal. Saw her in Court argue a case -she is really good! She knows her stuff well.
I did the Web and mobile development course at the kitchener campus to spend 25000 dollars to have a teacher that first doesn't know the material also to watch him sleep instead of teach I sure don't think anyone should sucks it up .I can say trios does have some good teachers but I advise for at least the course I stated above do not spend money on it.Also when the whole class complained nothing was done.
The Web and mobile development course is not good the teacher is not a good teacher it seems he doesn't prep for the courses he tries to lean a new course with the students and if he can't figure the course out he will just give you a passing mark he also has been observed sleeping instead of teaching and when the whole class complained nothing was done.
Guys... you have NO idea! I went to Ryerson for a certicificate program in Computer Programming Applications because I thought... RYERSON! But... what a disappointment! I have similar complaints! The instructor just poorly copied and pasted materials from the textbooks and *read* them in class! Lab work was useless: the instructor lacked both in-class and hands-on experience, and just pretended to help, classes were clearly not prepared, and I got a less knowleageable and less deducated instructor than I was expecting for over a thousand dollars. I did try to escalate, but the staff was as dismissive as the instructor. What I learned: how not to teach, and how the IT field education can be a scam... learn online for free, build a portfolio, and you should be go to go. Don't spend money on these schools, not even in a university like Ryerson.
This college are masters at giving out fake news. Check out all the Fake reviews online.
"I personally define it [fake news] as completely fake stuff created by people knowing it's fake, doing it for an economic motive, " she explained.

I have attended trios downtown Toronto and It seems the director of the campus (Lynda Eng) picks and chooses what rules she follows. A serious School is far from how i would describe Trios.
Told one thing about internships etc and you never get the same answer twice it's a money grab nothing more. My current employer didn't even care what I took there. Not a real school OSAP staff do not know the ins and outs and the students pay the price. Go somewhere else
I concur.
Trios is nothing but a money grab.
I have a $15.000.00
Piece of paper that's COMPLETLY useless! Something needs to be done . I've done some research such as the legality of them being a
private college.
But I'm only one person.
I am not sure who It'sOnlyMyOpinion is, but I would like to respond to their comments. I searched my teacher's name for her website and I noticed this website. I would like to say that Adeela Alvez is an amazing teacher at Trios College, she is very knowledgeable. Adeela has taught me so much about law. Adeela works with every student individually, if the student needs help. She has helped me so much. She returns assignments and provides feedback to each student. The material for the course is always covered in my experience and as far as I know from my friends in the class they think the same. I will also ask them to write a comment on here. Adeela has also invited us to see her in Court and she is a great paralegal.
@SarahsOpinion told me about this website. Adeela Alvez was my teacher, our class loves her. She is a great teacher and a paralegal. Saw her in Court argue a case -she is really good! She knows her stuff well.
I learned a lot from Adeela Alvez's courses. She cares about educating her students and helping her students get jobs in the law field. I am working in a firm because of her recommendation and I am still employed because of what has taught me.
Sarah told me about this website and I wanted to write a comment here, because what that person its my opinion has written about Adeela Alvez is not true. Ms. Alvez doesn't deserves that. She is very smart and a good teacher.
Kathleen at the Hamilton campus for the community service worker course does NOT know what she is doing. When I joined this course I thought she was great and our first assignment was great. they took time and energy and forced us out of our comfort zones. That was 1 assignment in 1 course. I am now 73 days until my internship and this is why you should join the SSW program at mohawk over the CSW program at Trios.
1) When you join the course a few things are made clear to you, no cheating, don't log in to class and sleep, and be respectful. And all this seems standard until you start taking her tests. I've noticed Kathleen's tests will have questions that do not reflect ANYTHING we did in class. I'm almost 100% certain she takes her questions off of study guides online and while that sounds extremely accusatory multiple other students in the class agree that her tests are funky and have information in them that isn't gone over during the course. Then, when you download the assignments there are countless grammar and spelling mistakes that give the impression the assignments were written by somebody else and never edited or revised for further use.
2) For the logging on and just not participating, she used to call people out or even kick people out, in fact, she'd make a huge show of it saying "Ope I'm gonna kick them out and see if they're paying attention and come back" though as time went on I started to realize she was progressing students who never participated during discussions, classwork time, after class assignment time or in trainings. And at the graduation ceremony (if you can even call it that) we are forced to nominate people for awards that we have to create and at some point, you run out of names and have to nominate the people who don't participate and then they end up winning an award for sitting in a teams call doing who knows what.
3) As for being respectful, Kathleen has this ideal she follows where has to fix every willfully ignorant, disrespectful, person who logs into her class and won't hesitate to waste our tuition money giving into people's homophobic, racist ideals and ignoring genuine questions from other students like when and where to find an assignment. Students will even admit to pushing her just to get her upset and time and time again she continuously takes the bait or out of nowhere will ask for their opinion.
4) We used to have a student that was slightly disruptive. She had a new life-changing moment every day and we would listen to whatever was new but Kathleen would ALWAYS force her back on track. One time when the student wasn't in, Kathleen made a comment that every class has a student that you need to keep on track and they come off as awkward or even rude but they're just trying to fit in, and keeping them on track helps them. However, once that student and her group left, that expectation was dropped and we were expected to listen and SYMPATHIZE (not empathize) with individuals in my class and once spent the entire 4 hours counseling a student in front of the class (a repeat class disruptor). It's so bonkers to me that the hateful individual willfully not accepting the help around him gets more understanding than the kind, disabled girl who is genuinely trying to get help and better herself.
5) Kathleen boasts about her past working with individuals with disabilities, though, when a student in her class showcased her autism rads test and asked if she should pursue a doctor about it she was told she "might have Aspergers because she is very high functioning." This is very worrying as people in the class are getting jobs working with disabled people and while Kathleen isn't teaching about disabilities, if she is going to be giving her opinion then she needs to know what she's talking about. If you have autism you have autism it's a spectrum disorder for a reason and terms like Aspergers and high and low functioning are harmful as they were created by non-autistic people with the intent to label autistic people based on how hard they were to deal with not how they can actually function within different settings.
6) Multiple students have disclosed messaging Kathleen for help or to navigate assignments outside of class and there are times when she will straight out ignore people's multiple attempts to get in contact with her or she will give a vague answer and exclaim why she won't do it "it's here but too far back for me to get to it, find it yourself." Now, students are turning to each other for assistance and hoping they find someone with the answer as our instructor is never not showcasing her incompetence to just assist her students who actually care about the course. (btw Kathleen helped develop the courses and write the textbooks, she, by all means, has the know-how on helping us; she just chooses not to)
7) Someone got caught cheating and distributing material to cheat in the Hamilton and Niagara program. By all means, this isn't 100% Kathleen's fault HOWEVER before this past test she would open the test, go through every question, and tell us how to answer the written ones. then let us write it. Somebody recorded her doing this and sold it and all I have to say is who previews tests? who previews them in such detail as she had? who spends DAYS encouraging her students to bash each other, and followed up every insult towards this girl who cheated with something along the lines of "I'm so great why would you cheat from me." I'm sorry but if you're giving away the answers, you just answered your own question on the why and how people can cheat off of you. Things were getting tense in this bashing fest where multiple students and Kathleen talked about how this girl was a shame to the program and the field, how she didn't deserve to continue studying, how they'd be watching her like a hawk, and if they even thought she was cheating or doing anything she would be gone. Students talked about How it was EXCITING for Kathleen to go and question this girl and how offended Kathleen was that she didn't have remorse. I don't agree with what the girl did and my heart would be in my throat if I had to have been in that call but regardless, Kathleen is not entitled to this girl's admittance of guilt and her reasoning why. But that was her reasoning for why it was okay to bash this girl for what she did and insult her entire character not only because she cheated off of material that Kathleen gave to us that she really shouldn't have in the first place but moreover because she found it immoral to have been caught cheating and still not admit it.
8) Grading. Kathleen has admitted that she does not read the names of whos tests she's marking and there are students with learning disabilities or who are ESL that would benefit from extra care being taken in marking their material. I'm very familiar with the D2L that we use for the class as it's the same I've been using for about 6 years now and I know there are features to edit on top of people's assignments the way you would with a pen or to leave comments though we NEVER get a breakdown of our marks. Actually, at the beginning of our course, Kathleen showed us how she marks our work and it's essentially a point per relative sentence but she does that for every assignment and there's just more to marking than counting sentences.
9) Kathleen told us that it is in policy that if you need to use the restroom during a test it is her job to follow you into the bathroom and listen to you pee. These ideals are not reflected in Trios policy and she said it with such crass and a smug smile as if talking to a group of children in an elementary school. She also informed us we are to keep our cameras on during exams to ensure we aren't looking around but that we aren't allowed to look around because she wouldn't be looking. I have GI problems and was sure if I used the bathroom beforehand I would be okay writing the test though my stomach acted up and i was in a great deal of pain. Side note if you genuinely think I'm lying I debated taking the fail or genuinely taking my computer into the bathroom because I have a legit medical condition and was not told if I would be required to bring a doctor's note... to go to the bathroom... in my own home... Needless to say, I was breathing as deeply as I could and hoping not to "look around too much" so as to not make anyone think my gastro intestinal despair was cheating.
10) The past 2 months have been the same course repeated with different titles and some trainings put in. Part of me thinks they had to legally add more time into the program to make it valid because there's no reason we need to pretend that Populations at risk, community services in Canada, group work and human relations, and business communications were not just 1 course that they were asked to extend into 5 courses.
There will be more to tell and theres surely stuff I'm missing. You can even see the success rates and look at the difference between just the two CSW courses she runs at the Trios hamilton campus from 2019 and every other course offered at a private career college (its in an excel doc online)... but I'm not the only one who's caught onto whats going on and whatever happens I just hope I can pay off my OSAP loan in an okay amount of time
Biggest scam I'm seeing with this as well. I actually might withdraw from the program I'm taking because nothing seems legit and the privacy on it is even worse iv noticed. I thought they had your best interest but seems like a big scam to me.
Resolved.
