Trusted Housesitters Review: 75% Negative Experiences, $700 Worth of Damage, and Underwhelming Customer Service
I heard about Trusted Housesitters from a few friends and decided to give it a try. I've used Rover and Wag to leave my dog with strangers before and never had any issues. I've also dogsat for both platforms and never received a bad review. However, my experience with Trusted Housesitters has been quite different. In fact, I've had 75% negative experiences with them. Two people canceled on me last minute, and one even left my house in shambles, causing $700 worth of damage. When I contacted Trusted Housesitters about the situation, their response was underwhelming, to say the least.
My first sit was with a girl who had a couple of positive reviews and seemed like a good fit. However, she canceled on me just three days before I was set to leave, leaving me scrambling to find another sitter. At that point, I decided to purchase the Premium membership for the $150/night protection. I eventually found another sitter who ended up being great and working well.
For my second sit, I confirmed an older couple who had great reviews and references. However, they backed out about a week before my trip, citing a job opportunity in NorCal. I contacted Trusted Housesitters about the situation, but they did nothing to help me. I managed to find another couple last minute, but it turned out to be a big mistake.
The couple I found ended up being awful. Several neighbors filed noise complaints with my landlord, and the couple trashed my house and smoked weed all over my home. They neglected my dog, leaving several hundred dollars worth of bedding ruined from dog pee and poop. I had to pay a new dog sitter $400 to take care of my dog, and the entire house reeked of drugs, dog urine, and another strong smell when I returned. They drank a bunch of my alcohol and left a ton of crap all around the house, including clothes, lighters, and drugs. I found leftover weed behind my mirror, under my bed, in my alarm clock that was thrown on the floor, and on my bed. Thankfully, I had a plastic mattress cover, or else the mattress that I bought under two months ago would've been ruined.
When I signed up for Trusted Housesitters, I never imagined something like this would happen. I read their basic TOU, which promised to "have me covered." However, they did not. I have rental insurance, but the damage totaled $700, not including the days I spent cleaning the house myself. I don't believe the couple intentionally stole anything, but they left in a major hurry, taking my towels, scissors, and other items with them. My apartment is only 700 sq ft, and based on pictures my friend sent, they had their stuff all over my small space for a 10-day stay.
After deducting the $400 for dog care, Trusted Housesitters didn't seem to care about what happened. It's definitely a major warning to anyone considering using their services. You might be out up to $1,000, and Trusted Housesitters won't care about your home. Their customer service is lacking, and their promises of protection are empty.
Trusted House Sitters Review: A Unique Opportunity for Pet Lovers and Travelers Alike
I'm a big fan of Trusted House Sitters. As a pet lover, I was introduced to house sitting in early 2016 and subscribed to various websites to find opportunities. That's when a friend suggested Trusted House Sitters and I'm so glad they did! Their website is easy to use and provides a great platform for pet owners and sitters to connect from all over the world.
Thanks to Trusted House Sitters, I had my first house sit in the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Australia. It was an amazing experience that changed my life in ways I never imagined. Since then, I've had over 30 house sits in Australia, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Austria, and Spain (where I'm currently writing this review from!). I've met many amazing pet owners who have become close friends, stayed in wonderful homes, and experienced incredible hospitality. It's been an opportunity to visit places and cities that I wouldn't have had the chance to otherwise.
What I love most about Trusted House Sitters is that for a modest annual fee, they provide a unique "Win Win" opportunity for both pet owners and sitters. However, it's important to note that this opportunity is not for everyone. If you're looking for free accommodation and a sightseeing holiday without putting in the effort to care for pets, then this isn't for you. But if you have the right attitude and are committed to the welfare of the pets you'll be caring for, then the world is literally at your fingertips.
My advice to anyone considering Trusted House Sitters (or any other pet sitting organisation) is to make sure your primary commitment is to the welfare of the pets. If you put your heart and soul into caring for them, the rewards will be the icing on the cake. This opportunity only exists because pet owners seek someone they can trust to look after their home and provide the same love, attention, walks, and hugs for their beloved pets as they would.
Thank you Trusted House Sitters for providing this amazing opportunity!
TrustedHousesitters: The Ultimate Solution for Pet Lovers Who Love to Travel
TrustedHousesitters is an amazing platform that has completely changed the way we work and travel. We stumbled upon this gem of a website three years ago when we saw an article about it in a magazine at my hairdresser's. Since then, we have actively been using TrustedHousesitters as house and pet sitters and have had 19 incredible stays with 6 repeats, and our 7th stay coming up in Australia in a couple of months.
Being a part of this amazing house and pet sitting community has been a game-changer for us. We absolutely adore the company of fur babies, but unfortunately, we cannot have pets where we live. As members of THS, we are able to combine travel with staying with fur babies, and it's a WIN-WIN situation for us.
We like to be super organized and have our own comprehensive house/pets/community documents which we encourage owners to complete. This way, we and they have peace of mind that we are well informed on the care of their fur babies and home. Plus, it is a super reference manual for them to have and update whenever they have other sitters visit.
To date, we have stayed with 33 fur babies, each with their own unique personality and traits. Spending time with them through coffee and brunch pet dates, park visits, lap pats, snuggles, duvet time, playtime, walks, runs, beach + pool swims, brushing and washing, they have shown and showered us with fur baby love and given us hours and hours of laughter and happiness. We have so many special memories we talk about all the time and of course photos... we have 100s and 100s of them and mini videos too!
You really do lose a piece of your heart on each THS stay, and it is hard to say goodbye. But to know you are helping to keep pets happy, healthy, and relaxed in their own home so their mums and dads have peace of mind their babies are being looked after so they can enjoy their break away, it is all worth it.
We have met so many warm and welcoming THS owners and local communities and have developed some very special friendships around the globe. We've even been adopted into a number of the families and referred to as their Aussie/UK family.
Being a THS member has allowed us to visit places such as Palma, Monaco, Stafford, London, Paris, Worthing, Farnham, San Francisco, Geneva, Wurtulla, Zaandam, San Diego, Toronto, Berlin, El Campello, and Long Beach NY - how great is that!
We are not full-time sitters yet, as we have our own business, but we've been working towards a healthy work and lifestyle balance, and TrustedHousesitters has played a real positive part in this. Through wifi, technology, and a bit of space to work in the THS places we stay, we are able to work remotely a number of hours a day, keep in contact with our clients, whilst enjoying our entrepreneurial lifestyle with fur baby company... keeping the heart rate down.
Thank you, TrustedHousesitters, for our incredibly positive and rewarding journey with you so far. We are excited to see what THS adventures lie ahead throughout 2018... watch this space!
TrustedHousesitters Review: Positive Experiences House Sitting and Pet Care Services
I joined Trustedhousitters back in [protected], and I must say, it was a great experience for me. I was in the process of selling my house and wanted to move to a different province in Canada. So, I decided to check out Trustedhousitters to provide house sitting and pet care services for two households. I corresponded with the homeowners through the Trustedhousitters website, and we also exchanged our contact information to facilitate communication.
I provided Police Checks, 5 Star Character References, a photo of myself, and pictures of pets I have cared for, as well as a great deal of honest information about myself on my Trusted Housesitter Profile. However, when I applied for housesitting, only about 25% of the homeowners took the time to respond to let me know if they were interested in having me house sit for them. I thought that perhaps it was because I was new on this site and had not yet had reviews from homeowners for house sitting I had completed. There are many Housesitters whose Profiles have many References and Reviews, and the Listing of Available Housesitters seem to be ranked by years of experience, number of Reviews, and Star ratings. Thus, my name was way down on the website List as a New Member.
Despite this, I had very positive experiences with the homeowner members. One was with a couple on the Saanich Peninsula north of Victoria, on Vancouver Island, B. C. They allowed me to come a couple of days early, with a friend I was traveling with, to get familiar with the area and to meet them ahead of their leaving on an extensive trip to Europe where they would be away several weeks, leaving their home and everything in it entirely in my care. I only had to tend their beautiful gardens and put out food for the wild birds! They offered that I could use any food in their refrigerator or gardens, and some in their pantry, too! They were wonderful hosts, and I had a lovely guest room on the upper floor with my own bathroom! It was beautiful, and they were gracious, and even let me use their computer to digitize photographs! They provided me extensive information, as well as the phone numbers of supportive neighbors, in case I needed any help while they were away.
The other house sit was over Christmastime in the location I had moved from. This facilitated my returning to the city I had moved from to go visit my friends and family in that area without having to rent a place or pay for hotels, or inconvenience anyone. These hosts were wonderful, too! Their apartment was lovely, and they provided a very comfortable guest room with my own bathroom, all the information I needed, and any food in their fridge or cupboards, plus internet and TV. Their cat was very sweet, and we got along very well. They gave me a 5-star review and an invitation to continue to house sit and pet sit for them again, whenever I wanted to come back to my hometown city! Everything was LOVELY! 5 Stars all around!
Trusted House Sitters Review: Appalling Treatment and Negligence Towards Sitter Safety
I used to have good experiences with Trusted House Sitters (THS) and always received excellent reviews and a 5-star rating from the people I sat for. However, in September 2020, I had a terrible experience that left me traumatized and in need of emotional and legal support. The way THS staff treated me was appalling, and I am now at least ?1000 worse off.
I signed up for a 6-week sit in the Italian countryside, and I was led to believe that the 2-day handover would be with a husband and wife couple. However, only the man was there, and I felt very uncomfortable sharing a small home with a strange man in the middle of the country, especially when I learned that there was no internet or phone coverage. I had been told in writing that there was a reliable service.
I decided to check myself into alternative accommodation for the handover period, which seemed to annoy the owner. Later, in an angry text, he accused me of misleading him, which was not true.
The house sit was far from what I had been led to believe, and I felt increasingly unsafe, particularly after twice experiencing anger in person from the owner, who seemed unstable and on a short fuse.
The owner, who was supposed to be going to Malaysia, was actually only going to the U.K. and wanted to shorten the duration of the sit. He attempted to bribe me not to say anything negative about him or his home, and I have written evidence of this.
After sleepless nights, much stress, increasing concern for my safety, and on the advice of alarmed friends and family, I left the sit confident in the knowledge that the pets would be taken care of by friends who were visiting the home.
Trusted House Sitters treated me with rudeness and contempt. They did not extend even a basic human courtesy of a fair hearing and struck me off their membership listing while the unstable and dishonest homeowner, whose word was taken over mine, is still a member.
Despite being repeatedly ignored by THS, I had no choice but to pursue legal action. This company has a profound blind spot when it comes to the safety of their members and the potential shadow side of the service. They seem clueless to the safety of their sitters, especially single female sitters in potentially dangerous situations.
I am particularly horrified by the rude and dismissive attitude of the young man who communicated with me from THS. I asked several times to be referred to another member, although my request, as with all other points I raised, was entirely ignored.
I am really beyond shocked that a limited company that places trust as its core value is able to demonstrate such contemptuous behavior towards its customers. As far as I can tell, there are no regulations or policies in place to protect sitters.
THS has essentially negated any responsibility and basically does not care when things go wrong. Be warned! This company is simply not interested in your ordeal.
TrustedHousesitters Review: Nightmare Experience with Sitter and Heartless Response from Site
I just had the worst experience with TrustedHousesitters and I feel like I need to share it with everyone so they don't have to go through what I went through. I accepted a sitter with 13 5-star reviews, thinking that I could trust them with my home and my pets. But when I returned from my trip, I found my home destroyed and my cat clinging to life. It was a nightmare, and Trustedhousesitters did nothing to help me. I was shocked at how heartless they were.
During my trip, my cat fell ill and the sitter took him to the vet. The vet said that my cat wouldn't be well enough to go home until after I returned, but they also said that they wouldn't feel comfortable sending him home with the sitter anyway. This was a red flag for me, but I didn't think much of it at the time. I was just worried about my cat and hoping that he would be okay.
Then, I found out that the sitter would be leaving 12 hours before I got home. She didn't even tell me, she just asked for the best way to get to the airport at 5am. This left me with no time to find someone to come check on my other two cats. I was worried sick about them, but I had no choice but to hope for the best.
During my layover, I received a WhatsApp message from the sitter telling me that she had left. She also told me that she didn't have time to take out the trash or clean up a broken glass that one of my cats had knocked over. This was frustrating, but I didn't think it was a big deal at the time.
When I arrived home, I was horrified at what I found. My home was absolutely disgusting. There was filth everywhere, and the smell was unbearable. Nothing had been cleaned, swept, or vacuumed. The litter box was overflowing with litter, feces, and urine. There was cat vomit all over the house, on the sofa, the sofa chairs, the guest bed, and all of the cat poles. It was everywhere. The litter keeping mats were full of urine, and the litter was all over the house. It was clear that the sitter had not tended to the litter box during my absence, and my cats had peed outside the box. The vet said that my cat's respiratory infection was likely due to the deplorable conditions that the sitter let my house become.
To make matters worse, the sitter is still on the site accepting sits. Trustedhousesitters did nothing to help me replace my damaged furniture, and they did not remove the sitter from the site. They just removed my review so that other homeowners could not be warned.
I used to be an advocate for Trustedhousesitters, but now I realize that this site could put your pets and home at risk. I hope that my experience will help others avoid the same nightmare that I went through.
Beware of Trusted House Sitters: A Hot Mess of Broken Windows, Last Minute Cancellations, and Sketchy Sitters
Yo, pet and homeowner peeps, listen up. If you're all about your crib, your furry friends, and your homies, then steer clear of Trusted House Sitters. I've been a member for a hot minute, and let me tell you, it's been a hot mess. The only sitter that didn't totally blow was the first one, but I decided to give it another go anyway.
The second sitter straight up broke a window and I had to cough up the cash to fix it. And then the third and fourth sitters bailed on me two weeks and two days before I was supposed to leave. Like, what the heck, man? Don't be fooled by their fancy insurance either, 'cause it's a pain in the butt to actually get any money out of it. And the sitters can cancel on you last minute, even on the day you're supposed to leave, with no consequences whatsoever. They can even break the rules and still get away with it, no penalty or nothing.
The last sitter I tried to book was sketchy as heck. I told her my friend would be stopping by to check on things and she freaked out and cancelled on me two days before I was supposed to leave for two months. I had to get the police involved just to get my key back from her. And get this, she straight up admitted in the chat that my friend was the reason she cancelled, but the company still didn't do anything about it. It made me wonder what kind of shady stuff she was trying to pull in my house.
And don't even get me started on their customer service. They don't answer the phone, they don't help you mediate with the sitter, and they won't even make sure you have a replacement sitter if your original one bails. They only reached out to me after my membership expired and wanted me to renew it. They even had the nerve to suggest I upgrade my membership to cover cancellations, like they didn't just screw me over.
Honestly, I'm so stressed out from this whole experience that I'm covered in hives. I couldn't even find a sitter for my babies for the dates I needed. So, if you care about your home and your pets, don't trust Trusted House Sitters.
TrustedHousesitters Review: A Great Service for House Sitters and Home Owners Alike
Me and Ian have been house sitters for over 3 years now and we've been using TrustedHousesitters almost exclusively. We've had nothing but positive experiences with this company and we were surprised to see some negative reviews on SiteJabber. We just wanted to share our experiences and let people know that this is a great service.
TrustedHousesitters is the biggest international house sitting platform and it's easy to see why. They do a great job of matching home owners and house sitters and they have a lot of happy customers. We've had some amazing experiences thanks to TrustedHousesitters and we're grateful for the opportunities they've given us.
We've even had the chance to visit the company and meet their staff. They're a great team of pet lovers who are committed to providing the best service possible. Of course, like any service-related industry, there will be the occasional problem and dissatisfied customer. But that's just the nature of the business.
Most of the time, problems arise when the home owner and house sitter don't clearly communicate their expectations. It's important to do your due diligence and make sure you're a good fit for each other. TrustedHousesitters can act as an arbitrator and try to help resolve any issues, but ultimately it's up to the home owner and house sitter to make sure they're a good match.
Applying for house sitting assignments is like applying for a job. You need to put in the effort to build your profile, get references, and learn how to take care of a home, possessions, and pets. TrustedHousesitters provides the tools to advertise yourself, but you need to work on developing your skills and experience to get selected for the best sits.
There is competition for the best house sits, just like there is for the best jobs in the world. But there are also plenty of sits that have fewer applicants. Even when we started out with little experience, we still managed to get sits continuously. It just took a little longer.
TrustedHousesitters has good checks in place to make sure members are who they say they are and they provide guidance on how to advertise yourself as a home owner or sitter. They also have helpful services like a Vet Help Line for emergency pet advice. Customer services are always on hand to help in case of a dispute.
We've always received responses from Customer Services, but we understand that time zones can cause some delays. Overall, we think TrustedHousesitters is a reputable and professional company. We've had so many amazing experiences as house sitters and we're grateful for the service they provide. Keep up the great work!
Trusted House Sitters Review: A Game Changer for Pet and House Sitting - Our Experience After 7 Years
Me and Debra have been using Trusted House Sitters for almost 7 years now and it has completely changed our lifestyle. We wanted to share our thoughts and experiences on the site after reading reviews on sitejabber.com.
The site acts as a middleman for two types of registered members. Firstly, there are home and pet owners who list their requirements and dates for someone to come and look after their property and pets while they are away. Secondly, there are house sitters who want to experience living like a local somewhere else while caring for someone else's property and pets.
To apply for a house sit, a sitter must apply to a listed house sit and then compete with other registered sitters to be considered for the role. However, there are no guarantees that a sitter will be selected for a house sit they apply for due to a number of factors that Trusted House Sitters has no control over. These factors include the volume of applicants an owner receives, the unique selection process that each owner can have, or simply a gut feeling an owner gets from each application.
Applying for a house sit can be like applying for a job. Sitters should not expect to be selected for every house sit they apply for. In our experience, a sitter should expect a response from 4 out of 10 applications that are submitted, and perhaps only 1 of those will go further to an 'interview' stage. All sitters should be prepared to wait for the opportunity to house sit, not expect it by just becoming a member.
On the other hand, we have talked to owners who have not been able to attract a sitter for reasons including seeking someone in a peak holiday period but only listing within a short period of the required dates, having unique requirements, or the dates that they require sitters just don't quite fit everybody.
Trusted House Sitters does not interfere or affect the dialogue between owners and sitters. They provide a secure messaging system for communication to happen and support structure for member queries by messaging, live chat, phone, email, and via Facebook. They will act as an arbitrator for any dispute and will make a decision based on what's presented to them. Some decisions may be unfair to one party over the other, as with all things in life.
Overall, we find the support to be very good. Of course, there have been one or two times we have tried to contact support and had to wait a number of days for feedback or a suitable response. These have normally happened during high holiday periods or when major changes have been made to the site and support is getting a lot of feedback. In life, this has happened when trying to contact suppliers of other services including power companies, banks, airlines, and hire car companies and the more I think about it probably more regular with these.
As for the cost of becoming a member, we don't think it's too much. However, if you think that the cost should guarantee success at attracting a sitter or being selected for a listed sit, remember that you are competing against other members doing what you would like to do and in the end only 1 will be successful.
Over the past 7 years, we have seen Trusted House Sitters grow in number of members and functionality, of which a lot is attributed to member feedback. They do listen, however, they also employ some very talented people who have ideas as well, and sometimes the commercial reality of their ideas wins out, mostly for the betterment of the site.
Disappointing Experience with Trusted House Sitters: Lack of Support and Unfounded Libel
I recently had a negative experience with Trusted House Sitters that has left me feeling disappointed and frustrated. As a sitter, I thought I was protected from unfounded libel, but that was not the case. Despite having all the necessary verifications and carefully choosing my sits, I was accused of everything wrong in the house before I even arrived. This resulted in an extreme and damaging review being published on my profile, which Trusted House Sitters has refused to remove despite overwhelming evidence from my part to the contrary.
Getting through to Trusted House Sitters support was a lot of work. They list incorrect numbers in their help and mobile app, and the numbers that seem to work are always busy. Emails are ignored, and even live chat seems to be disabled at times. This is not just a technical issue, as other reviewers have had similar experiences. It seems like they have fired all but one support person.
After finally getting through to support, the most absurd slander was removed, but the review was still kept online. Yes, you can reply, but that means getting in an online debate with an online troll/bully. This is not what I signed up for. I thought Trusted House Sitters was supposed to be a safe community of decent people, but instead, you expose yourself to instant online reputation damage even if you've outdone yourself.
The only way to counter this as a sitter is to record everything 24/7 with cameras, which is not practical or legal in many cases. This is a huge red flag for me, and I have lost trust in the platform. It's a shame because I had an almost perfect record before this incident, but just one crazy outburst of a mentally unstable person had almost put me in a difficult position again with a seemingly lack of interest to resolve it from Trusted House Sitters' side.
I tried to contact support multiple times via email and phone, but no response was given. I had to resort to live chat as a last resort, which was also difficult to get through. The whole experience was dragged out until I gave up. This almost cost me a sit with a future owner, who was worried after seeing the review. This has made me lose trust in the platform and in house sitting in general. I had an almost perfect record, but just one negative experience has made me reconsider my involvement in this community.

Trusted House Sitters Review: Negligent Sitters Resulted in the Loss of My Beloved Pet and Costly Expenses
I been a member of Trusted House Sitters for almost 4 years now. I gotta say, the past 2 years have not been a great experience. In 2020, my house sitter left my front door open while she was loading her bags into her car. This resulted in one of my dogs getting loose. I then spent 6 weeks trying to track down my dog and trap her. Luckily I was able to trap her that time and get her home safe. I decided to chalk it up to the house sitter not being experienced enough and to give THS another chance. But after that every house sitter I worked with, was told multiple times how important it is to keep the front door closed and secure. I wouldn't think this would be an unknown factor to anyone house sitting with or without animals.
A year after I got my dog back, another house sitter left the front door open resulting in my dog getting out once again. I chased her for 5 weeks, but unfortunately this time I was not so lucky, and she passed away before I could trap her. On top of that, I had spent over $500 in costs to change my flights to get home sooner, hiring a drone to search for my dog, and in the end cremation costs. I also got hit with almost $700 in citations from my city for my dog getting out. THS refused to pay for any of these charges even though they are all a result of negligence of a house sitter from their site.
Not only do I have to deal with the heartache of losing my dog, but I also have to deal with the financial strain of almost $1300 because the house sitters on this site cannot be trusted to keep your pets or home safe. I do not recommend using Trusted House Sitters. The sitters on their site cannot be trusted, and you might end up losing your beloved pets and racking up a hefty bill because of it. The photo attached is of my Roo girl. It's going to be hard to get over this one.

Review of Trusted House Sitters: Pros and Cons of Finding Reliable House Sitters
I've been using Trusted House Sitters for a couple of years now and I have to say, it's got its ups and downs. But overall, it's a pretty good site to find reliable house sitters.
One of the biggest pros of this site is that you don't have to pay for the sitters themselves. All you have to do is pay a yearly fee, which is pretty reasonable. And let me tell you, you can find some amazing, dedicated, responsible people on this site. It's a great way to avoid bothering your family or neighbors when you need someone to watch your house and pets.
But, as with anything, there are some cons to this site as well. One issue I've had is that some sitters seem to be fishing for money, even though they're not supposed to. It's frustrating when you're trying to find someone trustworthy and you have to deal with that kind of behavior.
Another issue I've had is with sitters canceling after committing. I always plan my trips well in advance, and it's really stressful when a sitter cancels at the last minute. Unfortunately, customer support hasn't been very helpful in these situations. I wish there was some kind of rating or score on a sitter's profile that would show if they've canceled on people before. That would definitely go into my decision-making process when choosing a sitter.
Trusted House Sitters used to have the option to select sitters that had background checks, but they removed that option. Now they only verify documents and emails. Personally, I would like to have the option for background checks.
Overall, it's up to you to diligently review the applicants, talk to them, and look at their references and reviews. I've had a couple of bad sitters in the past, but mostly good ones. And when I have had issues, customer support has been pretty attentive and willing to help. All in all, I think it's worth it to continue with my membership.
Disappointing Experience with Trusted House Sitters: Limited Offers and Poor Communication
We decided to give Trusted House Sitters a try because of their high rating system and the fact that they verify their sitters. We were excited to find someone to take care of our three healthy dogs while we were away for two weeks in our beautiful modern country home located in a crime-free golf course community in the suburbs of Virginia, USA. However, even though we were three months out from our sitting dates, we were having trouble finding someone to sit for us.
Our only limitation was that the sitters did not have children because our dogs had never lived with kids and could get nervous around them. Before contacting any sitters, we made sure they were available on the dates we needed, were not traveling with children, and had a history of sitting on the East Coast of the USA. We also made sure they were verified by the website, which we thought was worth the cost.
Unfortunately, it has been a full week since we paid the $119 fee, and we have been turned down by 15 sitters, with three ignoring our offers. The two sitters that proactively contacted us had children, ignoring our ad's "no children" restriction. We were disappointed with the lack of offers, as the site said to sit back, relax, and wait for the offers to start coming in.
We were hoping for more than two offers in a week, especially since both sitters ignored our one restriction. We were also surprised that 18 verified sitters with a history of sitting near our home turned us down or simply ignored our offer. We felt like the $119 was a waste of money.
We decided to put up an ad on a competitor's website that does not charge the homeowner, and we had an offer to sit in less than 12 hours. Unless you live in the UK or a major tourist destination in the US, Canada, or Europe, you may find it difficult to find a sitter with this website.
We did contact their customer service five days in and were told that they "would keep an eye on our listing." We were not sure what that meant, and we did not receive any further communication from them.
Overall, we were disappointed with our experience with Trusted House Sitters. We were hoping for more offers and better communication from the website. We would not recommend this website to others, especially if you have specific restrictions or live in a less popular area.
TrustedHousesitters.com Review: Good Experience Turned Bad with Poor Communication and Shady Refund Policy
I gotta say, I used TrustedHousesitters.com back in July of 2019 and I had a pretty good experience with them. My sitter was top-notch and I was happy with the service overall. But let me tell you, things took a turn when COVID-19 hit. I had no plans to travel in 2020, so I didn't think twice about renewing my subscription. But lo and behold, my credit card was charged on July 14th of this year. I didn't even notice until my statement closed on August 2nd. I was pretty ticked off, let me tell you.
So I reached out to TrustedHousesitters right away, but there was no way to get in touch with them by phone. I had to settle for an email response, which took a couple of days to arrive. When I finally heard back from them, I was told that their refund policy only covers 14 days. So basically, I was out of luck and out of $119. I tried to plead my case with James, who apparently is some kind of Member Experience Executive, but he wasn't having it. He just kept telling me that their policy was their policy and that was that. What a load of baloney.
Now, I don't know about you, but $119 is a lot of dough to me right now. I've been out of work since March because of this stupid pandemic, so every penny counts. I even filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but that didn't seem to get me anywhere. It's just not right, you know? Especially since their communication channels are so poor. I mean, if they had a phone number I could call, maybe I could have caught this charge before it went through. But no, they make it impossible to get in touch with them.
And get this - their refund policy is only 14 days. Can you believe that? Most other subscription-based businesses give you at least 30 days to change your mind. It's just not fair. I used to recommend TrustedHousesitters to all my friends, but now I'm telling them to steer clear. I mean, who knows how many other people they've ripped off with this shady policy? It's a shame, really. They could have had a loyal customer in me, but now they've lost my trust for good.
TrustedHousesitters.com Review: A Nightmare Experience with Unreliable Housesitters
Me and my hubby had to leave our house for three months because of our work. We thought that using Trustedhousesitters.com would be the best option for our pets and limit their stress while we are away. But, let me tell you, it was the most stressful experience for us!
The couple who stayed at our house lacked communication and left our house messy and dirty. I came back from a 20+ hour flight to find my house upside down, sink full of dishes, stoves, couch, and counter cover with dust and crumbles of food. They threw away my bedsheets and allowed my dog to chew on furniture, the floor was covered with cat litter, and the list goes on...
It is even more frustrating to ensure that the house was professionally clean before they arrived to offer them the best stay we could. But, it seems like they didn't care about our house or our pets.
Additionally, they refused to pay the 700 $ bills of water, electricity, and internet they used during their housesitting and even claimed that we should keep in mind that they took care of our house and pet for free. Can you believe it?
It's been a month since we are still trying to solve the situation with the website, but no action has been taken. We submit to their customer service all the proof, including screenshots, videos, and pictures from our house. But, it seems like they don't care about their customers.
The couple's profile is still on, and they are probably already housesitting someone else home (I hope they won't have the same experience as us!) We didn't receive any sort of commercial gesture or compensation, even though our membership is supposed to include some insurance. It's also been a month since we have been trying to reappropriate our own house, and it still doesn't feel like home again.
If you are thinking about using this website, think twice! In the end, you will never really know these persons or what's happening in your house while you are away, plus you will also not find any support from the website if something goes wrong! Trust me, it's not worth the risk.
(I couldn't add more pictures to my review as the files were too heavy)
Terrible Experience with Trusted House Sitters: Neglectful Sitter and Unprofessional Customer Service
I recently used Trusted House Sitters to find a sitter for my kittens and unfortunately, it was a complete disaster.
The sitter I hired promised to not leave my 4-month-old kittens alone for more than an hour or two at a time, especially since one of them had just been to the vet. However, on the first day, she left them alone for hours in the middle of a heatwave in Sydney without any food or water.
As the night went on, I became increasingly anxious as she had not returned and I had no updates on the kittens. Eventually, a friend went over to check on them and found that the sitter had left the keys in the letterbox all day and night. My friend fed and watered the kittens, but the sitter still had not returned.
Later that night, the sitter messaged me saying that she was home with the kittens and that they were well, but my friend was still in the apartment and knew that she was lying. I asked the sitter to leave, but she showed up at 1 am and tried to break in despite being asked to come home earlier to collect her belongings.
The situation was completely out of control, and the sitter even deleted her message where she had lied about being home with the kittens. Despite clear evidence of neglectful behavior, Trusted House Sitters terminated my account and refused to let me back on the site.
Their customer service was slow and unprofessional, and I would not recommend this site to anyone. It is clear that they favor the sitters over the owners, and I had very clear evidence of this sitter lying about the state of the kittens hours before she was actually home. Trusted House Sitters did not care at all.
This was my first time using the site, and it was a terrible experience. I would recommend using any other service to find a sitter for your animals.
Mixed Experience with Trusted House Sitters: Lack of Protection and Support for Sitters
I had a house sit through Trusted House Sitters and it was a mixed experience. My first sit went well and I received a great review, but the second sit was a disaster. The dog was poorly behaved and destroyed my expensive Italian leather bag, which was very upsetting. I contacted the owners right away, but they were not responsive to my request for compensation. When I reached out to Trusted House Sitters, they were not very helpful either. They basically said that dogs will be dogs and that they don't take sides.
I pointed out to them that if I had damaged the owners' belongings or house, I would have received a caution and reprimand, but as a sitter, I had no protection or support. I was warned by email and left to deal with the situation on my own. This inequality was very frustrating and made me realize that sitters need more protection and rights.
After several emails and complaints, Trusted House Sitters finally offered to let me make a formal complaint, but I knew it would be a waste of time. The owners were not interested in compensating me and were actually quite rude about the whole situation. They even ignored my checkout message and showed no appreciation for my two weeks of house sitting.
To make matters worse, I discovered that they were doing a bathroom renovation during my stay and the plumber had his own key and came and went as he pleased. This lack of privacy was very uncomfortable.
In the end, I decided to drop the case and move on, but I feel that sitters deserve more protection and support from Trusted House Sitters. We are responsible for people's animals and homes, and that is a big responsibility. Some insurance and rights would be appropriate to ensure that sitters are treated fairly and respectfully.
Overall, my experience with Trusted House Sitters was mixed. While my first sit went well, the second sit was a disaster and left me feeling frustrated and unsupported. I hope that Trusted House Sitters will take steps to improve their policies and provide better protection and support for sitters in the future. Thank you for reading my review.
Disappointing Experience with Trusted House Sitters: Poor Customer Service and No House Sits Found Despite High Membership Price
I decided to give Trusted House Sitters a try, despite the high price of membership. Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed with the service. The customer service was terrible and I never found a house sit despite consistent searching for over a year.
I spent six months living in Sydney and traveled for another five months, but I never found an available house sit where I was going. Even when I did find house sits that matched my availability, there were always 15+ applicants or I did not meet the pet owners' discriminatory requirements because of my age and job.
I thought that after such a long time without success, I would be entitled to a refund. However, it took them a week to even respond to my complaint and their solutions were unsatisfactory. They told me to be more flexible in order to find a house sit, but I had already been searching for over a year and had been very flexible with my travel plans.
I demanded a refund, but they refused because I had used their website to search and apply to house sits. This is ridiculous - it's like charging someone for looking at a menu in a restaurant without ordering anything. It's no way to do business and I was extremely disappointed with the service.
I would not recommend Trusted House Sitters to anyone, regardless of their age or financial situation. The way they do business is unjust and they lack tact when handling customer complaints.
Trusted House Sitters Review: Buyer Beware - My Experience with Abandoned Dogs and Damaged Home
I gotta tell ya, I had a real bad experience with Trusted House Sitters. My buddy recommended it to me, so I thought I'd give it a try. I found a sitter, met with her and her pooch, and left for my trip. But boy, was that a mistake. The sitter straight up abandoned my two dogs in the desert for over two days without AC! It was hotter than a jalapeño out there, and my poor pups were suffering. When I tried to reach out to the sitter, she lied to me and said everything was fine. It wasn't until my friends rescued my dogs that I found out what was really going on.
But that's not even the worst part. When I got back home, my house was a disaster. The sitter's dog chewed up my baseboards, peed all over my wool rug, and caused other minor damages. And get this, she cranked the AC down so low that I had to call a repairman to come fix it! I was so mad, I had to start a case with THS. But let me tell you, it was a real pain in the butt. First, I had to try to resolve the issue with the sitter, who wouldn't even respond to me. And get this, she's still listed as a sitter on the site!
Then, I tried to use my homeowner's insurance policy, but they denied my claim. So, I thought, no big deal, I paid extra for the Standard Pet Parent membership, which promised home and contents protection. But when I tried to activate it, they denied me too! Can you believe that? They straight up told me that I wasn't eligible for coverage because the damages were caused by the sitter's pet. But nowhere in their policy does it say that! It's a total scam, if you ask me.
So, let me tell you, if you're thinking about using THS, think again. They won't have your back, even if you follow all the rules. It's buyer beware, my friends.
Disappointing Experience with Trusted House Sitters: Unfair Treatment and Lack of Support
I recently had an experience with Trusted House Sitters that left me feeling extremely disappointed. I've been a member of this site since early 2012 and was even one of the top 10 sitters listed. However, the site has changed a lot in the last 2 years and not for the better.
As a housesitter, I was charged the same fees as homeowners but was given no opportunity to give my side of the story. This became a problem when I had to travel for 30 hours to an isolated housesit and my luggage was delayed. I arrived 4 days later, after many forms and various documents were forwarded so a search could be instigated. The airline kept calling me to do this, which was quite frustrating.
When I arrived, I was shocked to find out that the homeowner was leaving after showing me the lawnmower and taking the dogs out. He admitted that the dogs were extremely unsocialized and resented a stranger in their territory. This was a potential danger for me. I attempted to contact Trusted Housesitters about my situation, but no one answered my phone call or message.
To make matters worse, there was no printer or scanner at the house, and there were no shops or stalls for at least 10 kilometers. I had only the clothes I'd arrived in and my laptop. Everything was in my luggage, including medicines I'd need after 2 days. The homeowner was aware of my situation but offered no help, even though he would have had access to a printer in the closest city.
I had no way to get a baggage search started and no way to leave the property. I also had to deal with extremely difficult dogs. I called the homeowner, but he still didn't offer any help. I said I needed to leave the next morning to get the forms printed and scanned. The homeowner then told me he was returning and to be prepared to leave. He arrived, and I had to leave at 11 pm in the taxi he arrived in, which was the only way out of the area. I still hadn't slept.
The homeowners who'd been on the site less than a year complained, and my membership was suspended. My yearly subscription had been automatically deducted 5 days earlier, and I've been told this isn't being refunded. This was quite frustrating for me, as I had many reviews and references as I'd been a very successful international pet/housesitter. I relied on this site for survival on a limited income, so these reviews and references meant a lot to me. I've been told they're unattainable to me, even though I earned them.
This incident has shown the true side of this site. It seems to be only run as a business to extract money, however possible, and having no honor to long-standing members who helped establish their reputation. I hope that Trusted House Sitters will take a closer look at their policies and procedures and make some changes to ensure that their members are treated fairly and with respect.
