Wow - don't rent from them!
I pay over $2, 200 per month for a townhome in plano, tx. Most of the units, including mine, have huge mice (Rats) in the walls. When it is warm, you can smell their urine, fecal matter, and rotting bodies. After calls and calls and a visit from a regional manager, they did nothing at all. On top of this, both toilets started leaking around the base, we had a leak for a month in the walls from the shower (They finally came by and cut a huge hole in the drywall, fixed it, and then left the hole for me to stare at), the backyards of every unit haven't been mowed for over a month, they haven't put pine bark down after 10 months of complaining that all we have it dirt around the house littered with rat holes. If you call the office, you get a guy who can't spell his own name on a really good day. Nothing gets fixed, nothing gets done, and they are a terrible company filled with worthless customer-facing people.
For yucks, i attached a picture of our beautiful 9" deep back-weed-yard...

I lived in a UDR, Inc. property here in Tampa, Florida and I will never ever ever again rent from them. I moved out and now they are trying to stick me with over 1, 300.00 in damage charges. My place was located on the corner and there was nothing but dirt no grass and at night the sprinklers came on and hit my door directly so my door swelled up. They came to fix it all they did was put a screw in the bottom of the door. Then I got a leak in my upstairs bathroom and a large spot formed downstairs on the living room ceiling, right after they finally came and fixed the leak in my upstairs bathroom my wall in the downstairs bathroom started to become wet and molded. So I called the maintenance people. I guess a line broke to the ice maker or something so they cut the wall out and left it there for at least a week or two before coming to fix it. So I too have experienced nothing but bad things while living in a property owned by UDR, Inc. Not only does it seem that nothing ever works, because on top of those few things there were many other problems the manager of the community I lived in was very rude and never nice to be around. I would stay far far away from UDR, Inc. and any property they own.
I completely agree with the Tampa property. Although I never had any issues with the maintenance, I had a run in with the [censored] of a manager. When I got deployment orders I was told that because I wasn't active duty military they wouldn't accept them. As I didn't feel like arguing, I gave them the 60 days notice they required but shot back a nastygram about their treatment of those of us who work for the military. When I went in to fill out the paperwork they require, the manager opened my file, snidely said, "oh, I remember you", gave me the paper and walked out. After I signed it, and got her attention again, she asked if I wanted a copy. When I got home and looked at it, I realized that she had written that I was still responsible for the rent until someone else moves in. I don't really foresee them rushing to rent the place out, as they assume they'll still be getting rent for it. I'm not gonna pay it, as they never told me and I don't give a crap what something someone wrote by hand after the fact says.
Oh my God! What is wrong with these people? I just moved out of a UDR property, The Colonnade in Hermitage, TN..and they too are threatening to take me to court over $600 because they say they some stains in the carpet wouldn't come out and they had had to replace ALL of it. They had been marking up my utilities..($60 water bills for 2 people who are hardly there) so I went directly to the company that supposedly read the meters. I'm supposed to be getting bills directly from them so we'll see what happens. Our management was a team of [censored]es too. They prey on people for money...I wish there was something us "little people" could do! : (
I live at an amazing UDR property, The service is by far the best and the grounds are prestine. Frostine--pay your bills and stop blamming everyone else for your problems : )
You guys are all so bitter. Just because you have one bad experience, (even if it is legit), doesn't mean the entire company is that way. Sounds to me more like personal problems and "UDR" is your way of venting. Most of you judging by your poor grammer need to invest your time in an education instead slandering companies you barely know about. Just a suggestion : )
This is disheartening to say the least. I never believed I would be on a site complaining about this company, but be forewarned, they do try to fleece you when you leave. I bought a home, paid them thousands to buy out my lease and now they want to stick me with a bill to "replace the carpet" which they said they could not clean. I've always kept my place spotless and now they are trying to get as much money out of me as possible. I wrote a dispute letter and got nowhere. I then asked for the contact info the Division management they refused to give it and said to contact a collection agency. Is there a lawyer out there in Tampa that can help us. What they are doing is wrong and should be illegal.
They are known to to take over properties and then turn around and sell them before you know it. Don't get too comfortable with the staff. VERY HIGH TURN-OVER. You have been warned...
