Shipping of live animals
I have been waiting for 2 days for Unishipper of Richmond VA to ship my piglet. When the piglet was dropped off to Unishippers I got an email telling me that I needed to pay $400 for a vaccine antibiotic to be administered that will be fully refunded when the piglet is delivered. Sounds sketchy but I opt out of the vaccine, and now they want to charge me $300 for a ventilated crate!
So what I'm hearing is that Unishippers of Richmond VA accepts live animals without full payment for shipment and provisions for live animals? What kind of business takes in animals to be shipped without collecting payment of services to be rendered? Without an agreement or contract with the reciever to pay what is due?
Desired outcome: I would like my piglet shipped to me
Freight/shipping broker
03/23/17 This has got to be among the worst shipping experiences I have eve encountered. Unishippers is a franchise and the Idaho location which happens to manage shipping for eastern stae; OH, PA, NY, etc., are totally incompetent. In short, they arranged a shipment for me at a competitive price, however, even before the shipment was scheduled for a pickup, there was a red flag...as in the faxed forms they sent to me had an incorrect retirn fax number printed on it. So they never received the forms which delayed the pickup, and when I commented on the error, they almost defended themselves and said they were working on it. Working on what? Correcting a preprinted form with an important part being incorrect?
But that is not the worst of it. When that was straigtened out, they arranged for Roadrunner to pick up the shipment, letting me know that they might take a couple days more than another carrier which I was OK with. Waiting and waiting for the truck to show in a very busy light industrial complex in the Cleveland area, they became a no show. When I called Unishippers, they said the driver had showed up earlier and said the shipment was improperly packed! Really? The shipment was in a customer built crate that had been shrink wrapped to the pallet. But that's not the problem. It is with 100% certainty, the driver never showed up. That's right, Never showed up, and lied saying he did. We would have know for sure, as the dock door was locked and the driver would have needed to come into a fully staffed, professional office and announced he was there for a pickup. He never did.
Unishippers actually threw the issue back on us, as though it was our fault. There was not even mention of responsibility; only a we warned you about Roadrunner. Wait, did I get a warning that the driver would not show and he would lie about being there? Of course not. Lisa, in customer service was worthless, and going into the weekend the shipment was a dead issue until Monday. And then of course, on Monday morning we received an email that Unishippers was refunding my payment and left me hanging.
Luckily, I found an incredible replacement that is super customer oriented, uses reliable shippers, and the cost was actually less. The shioment is on it's way.
Bottom line...Unishippers is unprofessional and just a lousy company. I have read other reviews since this debacle, and so many others agree. Stay away from them at all cost...you will be disappointed. There are much better choices.
I had ordered a fender for my car and the company " Auto fit" of TX" the took me for$ 85.15 had used unishippers to ship it to me which I wanted FedEx to be the delivery company anyway when It was delivered to me it was UPS freight an it was damaged so I refused the order an sent it back. Well before the UPS DRIVER left my place I was on the phone with the unishippers claims person named Sarah and told her what happened to my fender she asked me if the driver was still there an I said yes she told me that she'd call me in the morning. She never told me to sign any papers get any pictures of the damage while I was on the phone with her the same day it was delivered. It was only after 4 days later is when she asked me to get pictures . Its been 5 months or longer now that I still haven't gotten a refund for $309.24 and to top it all off I did a claim with my bank and got ripped off by them as well! "Wells Fargo" Sarah from unishippers has refused an is refusing to talk to me anymore. And Brad from AUTOFIT parts is a liar an is a very deceitful person an theres not much more I can say for wells Fargo bank "Thieves "
Scam
In 2010 I was diagnosed with terminal cancer. To give back, and give thanks, I began donating copies of my children’s books to 3rd graders in Boston and surrounding schools. The donations widened now include other countries.
Recently, I arranged a donation of books to children in Argentina who otherwise would not have a book. I arranged shipping through Unshippers in Rowley, MA who brokered a deal to ship the books with DB Schenker, a cargo company in Peabody. Payment was made by Schenker realized after-the-fact that the recipient in Argentina needed an import license (which is expensive and a hardship to obtain.) Now I’m being told it will cost me an additional $2585 to return the books to the US.
Do Unishippers and Schenker take money for shipments, only to use extortion to return the shipment? Hopefully seeing this review will inspire Unshippers to do the right thing before the books are destroyed in Argentina.
Great news: Unishippers did everything to resolve this issue and I apologize or for anything I wrote about Unshippers that was unfavorable. I'm sure that any misunderstanding was mine. Unshippers worked hard to ensure that the shipment was returned and offered positive resolution in a fast and effective way. I correct my earlier complaint and am happy to report resolution..

Stay away
In the past, our company used Unishippers quite often. Their customer service used to be very good. Recently, they became very hard to reach by phone, hold times were 10 minutes or longer on a regular basis. Our salesperson was Bonnie Olhausen and quotes started to take forever. Even missed pickups became more frequent. My boss came down on my so many times over these problems that I had to start looking around.
We have switched to GlobalForwarding.com and they have been very good so far -- their rates are even better than what I was getting from Unishippers to beigin with.

Unishippers invoices are dihonest to say the least. They are a reseller for UPS. If you look closely at your invoice its shows what you save when using Unishipper versus paying UPS full published rate. When in fact the price they claim UPS would have charge (non discounted) is heavily inflated. You save more money by taking them out of the equation and going direct to UPS.
Bad delivery service
I set up freight with Unishippers for an 8am delivery to CO. The truck was scheduled to pick up 2 days before so the driver could make it on time. When I set up the shipment I was very clear about the 8am delivery! The day before delivery I received a call from a Unishippers saying that it was "impossible" to deliver @ 8 and the truck wouldn't arrive until 2pm. I told them there would be a back charge. So the next day arrives and my crew member out at the job site gets a call that the driver ran out of fuel 10 miles from the job site. My guy and MY CUSTOMER had to go and find him fuel. By the time he finally arrived it was 6pm. I will NEVER use UNISHIPPERS AGAIN!

Poor service
I too used to use Unishippers and had many of the same issues that are written about here, extra charges billed higher than the quoted amount and freight claims not paid because if you read the disclaimer it says freight is insured for much less than the industry standard of $20.00 per lb. that's why their rates are low.
I switched to TransLogistics Transportation a medium sized broker based in San Diego, CA. These guys really know their stuff when it comes to freight transport.
They have comparable rates with full coverage insurance and are a very friendly customer driven company.

They have been harassing me for months now. Will not stop calling no matter how many numbers of theirs i block, and how many times i've told them to remove me from their call list. Their BBB rating is a D if that tells you anything. Stay far away from them. I do not know how they are even obtaining company phone numbers.
What is the old saying, " you get what you pay for? If you are only concerned with rates and, your 'bottom line or profit margin', you got what you deserved, using a company lie this one. If logistics is what you need, go to the provider direct, not thru some 'sales company' basing the buy rates on volume! Sure, the latter is a great concept, but they are not concerned with your shipments. Their only concern is their 'profit margin' based on much biz they can push to a 'real carrier'. There are 'good brokers' out there, that actually ensure their clients get the service they deserve, but they are 'few and far between'. If you want to retain your customer base and improve same, rely on those that have an actual 'stake' in protecting your business needs! You may pay a little more, but it will be worth it in the long run!
Unishipper is the worsest freight broker we've ever cooperated. They are making money by cheating their customers. They offered low quote to attract new customers, but the final bills will much more than a surprise to you, it could be double the quote without any reasonable explanation. Their bills price is almost double the market price in terms of liftgate delivery, residential delivery etc. If you try to argue with them and pending the payment, they will just simply add late payment fee everyday and finally send you an email to threaten you. Horrible customer service and greedy way for making money. We really hope they disappear from the market as soon as possible. Cross our fingers.
Miserable, rude Customer Service that has no interest in providing any customer support. Tried to use them to make a shipment. Told me that my account was in collections. I was surprised as I had no invoice due. Called back and was told my account had a zero balance and was up to date. When I tried to talk with freight to find out why shipment was rejected, original person came on line and told me that there was another linked account and I had to call the collections "lawyer" for any information. When I asked for the supposed invoice number in collections was told that they could not talk to me. Asking for supervisor, yielded response: "I am the supervisor and cannot waste my time talking to you."
We will not be bothering their customer service in the future; suggest all customers take the same approach... don't bother them when you want to make a shipment; it's very inconvenient for their "customer service" operation!
Very poor customer service. Same story as most above. Adjustments to weight/density class, etc. well after shipment is complete and evidence is no longer available to dispute. As their customer, they should advocate for me with freight carriers. They do NOT.
We recently shipped with Unishippers as well. Terrible service. They charged the quoted amount, but then added extra delivery charges because of a "residence" on site. They sent phony pictures from Google Earth, showing another property 1/4 mile up the road and claimed we had an unpaved driveway. If they can't even find the right address online, how can they prove it is a residence. The point is, there is no residence and they should back the customer forget the extra $50.00. Making a customer happy is worth $50 in the long run. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!
These guys are terrible. We had a shipment into Canada that our customer called while the merchandise was in transit and needed to reroute. We emailed our rep who sent our request to a different office. We emailed the final shipping instructions with the correct address and shipping information and received a confirmation that the changes were received and that it would be taken care of. The pieces delivered to an incorrect address and even though we were being billed for inside delivery, the driver refused to perform the inside delivery and had women unloading the truck, and it just got worse from there. In the end they wanted to split the cost of the shipment with us which was unacceptable considering what a fiasco they made of the shipment! If you are looking for a broker to partner with to move your shipments and stand behind their service and the products they offer, DO NOT USE UNISHIPPERS! Wish I would have done some research before starting with them, would have never even started the relationship.
I had a bad experience with Unishippers also. I had a load which came from just Dallas to Houston and they lost 3 pallets through R&L Carrier they used. After 3 days they found 2 pallets, but 1 was empty. They never found the 3rd pallet which was the main pallet and i almost lost $15000. Tried to put a claim through which Unishippers didnt assist me at all. Finally switched to another company.
I am still in a 1 year battle over damaged goods that were shipped via Unishippers. They refused to contact their carrier for the claim, their carrier would not deal with us regarding the claim because technically we did not hire them. In the meantime, we had to replace the $3, 000.00+ goods that were damaged with our client. Unishippers had the nerve to chase us for payment of this freight! We had to tolerate bad language, threats, harassing phone calls even to our homes. They illegally used Caller ID changing applications to harass us. They even harassed our client ... a large international Beverage Co. Just today, I have received another call from a faux lawyer threatening small claims court ... and that ... "even" if we win, we will lose money. Really? I have already lost over $3, 000.00. Unishippers feels their company should be paid for bad service not only in their freight decisions, but also miserable customer service. Sadly they really have not taken into account how much business they lost over this. I tell everyone I know in the trade ... stay away from Unishippers. They have no control over their franchise groups, and they do not follow up with their carriers, and do not support or help their clients. Better to spend the extra $ with a more reliable service!
Very poor service I have had more things reclassed and reweighted with them then any other company we have used.
They were no help in getting things resovled. Their invoicing is poor too. Also the sales people border on harrassment .
I have used a few companies like them and they are the worst.
