I dropped my car off at Brake Masters at Oracle and Ina in Tucson Arizona to have my front brakes checked. My parents have done business with them for years, I have spent at least $600 with them and my friend does business with this very location of Brake Masters. I wrongly assumed that they were reliable and trustworthy.
They quoted me $560+ in repairs for my front brakes. I couldn't believe it. I wrote down a full page of details of things they said were wrong with my brakes. I could barely explain all the confusing things they said to my friend who is a truck driver. He assured me they were crooks and took my car to a local repair shop.
The honest mechanics repaired my front brakes with top of the line stuff for a total of $148 dollars and that is including tax and everything. Brake Masters at Oracle and Ina in Tucson AZ was going to rip me off for $400. What a joke. I paid them about $600 a few months ago for things and never double checked the work they did and was very suspicious that they ripped me off. Now I know for sure.
I am telling everyone I know that they are crooks. Stay away from Brake Masters. They just pick the best location and take advantage of people who are not experts at car repair. Who knows how much money they have scammed from my family over the years. It hurts just to think about it.
Here is one more detail that proves to me they are ripping people off. While I was talking to the Brake Master guys my truck driver friend was sitting right next to me. I wrote down everything the mechanic told me needed to be fixed and at the end I told him I needed to explain this all to my truck driver friend and get back to him.
The mechanic must have been sweating bullets, because anybody with basic vehicle knowledge would clearly see through his price and quotes. If the mechanic had any integrity he would have told the truth right then and there. I myself have changed my front brakes in the past for less than $70 bucks. I assume the labor costs should be $70 which means it should only cost $140 for everything + maybe $15 in taxes. That's what I paid at the local honest mechanics shop. If it weren't for my truck driver buddy, I guess I would have figured it out myself and man am I glad I did. Tell all your friends to avoid that place.

Don't go to Brake Masters! The mechanics at the Fontana, Ca location are the most unscrupulous bunch of a**holes I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Long story short, I was conned into paying more than 400 dollars for a job that I now know could have been under 200 had I gone to a much more honest mechanic. Please, save yourself the hassle, and your hard earned dollar by choosing not to go to Brake Masters
I think brake masters is the worst company on the planet! just recently i took my car in to them to do a fluids change on my 2002 passat everything went fine and i drove the car for about 4000 miles then srarted having tranny problems so not knowing what it was i took it to a volkswagon shop when they inspected the transmission they found that it was 3 quarts low on fluid and thats when i put it all together. the repairs will cost 5000 dollers for a new transmission andwhen i presented that information to the owner he blew it off and basically said not my problem. upon further investigation the volkswagon shop told me that a special machine is needed to change my fluid due to the fact that it is an enclosed transmission .brake masters does not have this machine and did it using their own negligent methods.now im out a car or 5000 dollars because they wont man up. I will never go there again an i hope no one else ever has to deal with them.

This one is a tough one because at the end, the manager and owner (John and Dwayne at #195) were awesome, but the communication they had with me and their mechanics never seemed to jive. I was serviced for the ‘pulsating’ in my breaks. My initial complaint. I told them I was pretty sure it was the front breaks. 300 bucks later, my breaks were still pulsating BUT I had brand new rear brakes. Hmm. I was offered $25 off my next visit to finally get rid of the initial pulsating problem. I was quoted over 150 bucks more to spend. The owner said he really tried. I guess I believe him. Really nice guy. The story they gave me was that the mechanic who had worked on my car was fired the next day. Hmm. He also told me that his hands were tied because of "Brake Master's policies". I believe him. But I still don't get it. Where does the slogan, "An Honest Brake" kick in?
