We went to Safeway today to purchase fresh crab, as advertised, for $3.99 a pound. We then realized it was a digital coupon and we had to download the Safeway app. We tried to do so, but apparently this store does not have good cellular service. After 15 minutes of waiting in the meat department for the app to load, we went to the register hoping it would work. It did not. The cashier sent for the manager, Melissa, who promptly came to our register.
Melissa was rude and disagreeable in her attempt to review the digital coupon policy. She said that it might not work right away and we might have to try again later. I told her that was unacceptable, as we are here now. I told her that at this point, unfortunately, the negative experience has overshadowed the discount. She said, "Now you're complaining? I don't have to give you the discount at all." I replied, "I am merely providing feedback, which most companies appreciate."
My sister asked what do people do who don't have a cell phone? Melissa said she manually enters the discount. Yet, she didn't offer that service to us when we were struggling with the app. This woman is not management material. Ukiah is a small town and negative experiences like this can be very damaging to a local store. By the end of the ordeal, my party as well as all of those waiting in line behind us and in ear shot of our register seemed very disappointed. Please do better.
Desired outcome: Provide coupons which are easy to redeem.Find a better candidate for managers position at Ukiah #1583. Melissa is a liability to your company.
