Menards - Customer service

I was just in the Elgin, Il store on Randall Road 2/21/23 @ 10:45am. There were two girls standing around waiting for a customer. I chose a lane and the girl started scanning my order. The other gift which was standing there said the one of the Borox Boxes was leaking and do I want to run back and get another one. So having COPD and heart disease (results from cancer) I asked if she could just run back for me as it wasn't very far while the other girl was still scanning my order. Her reply was that she can't leave the front end. I am flabbergasted by this reply. What happened to customer service at Menards? The store barely had any one in it and cashiers were standing around doing nothing. Then I asked her to see if someone can bring one up and again the store had more employees than they did customers. After check out, I asked the cashier to watch my basket because I wanted to buy a ponseta but, when I looked over at the spare girl she was removing my coffee cup from my cart with my purchased items in it. When I saw what she was about to do I asked her to put my coffee cup back where she found it. It wasn't a paper cup, it was a cup from home in the cart with my bags. By now I am upset and went to Service Desk to talk to a Manager. A young girl said she was the Manager (she did not have a badge that said Manager on it) and she reinforces the policy that the girl with no customers, nothing to do cannot leave the front not even in this incidence. WOW, one small exception to keep a customer happy but, nope they can't break the policy. I would understand if the store was busy and they didn't know my condition but, this was beyond my comprehention. What happened to Customers come first? We do a lot of business with Menards. My husband is a General Constractor and is a Menards store all the time but, today that just kick me in the gut. It makes absolutely no sense to me!

Desired outcome: Good C.S. is what keeps your customers coming back. Menards customer service on the floor is very good. Check out is the last impression to keep your customer's coming back. Cashiers should be friendly, helpful & always say "thank you"!
