National Tire & Battery [NTB] - vehicle damage

NTB Store in North Dallas events occurring on 7-15-15.

My wife's car was brought in for a simple oil change. It was returned a few hours later with a severe oil leak that ended up costing me over $1, 000 for repairs done by my Audi dealer. This was the result of a stripped drain plug and an attempt to cover up using silicone. The service writer maintained that the damage was done previously in spite of the fact that not a drop of oil ever leaked out previously. The assistant manager later advised that their procedures requires the technician, when faced with having to force a drain plug to stop, advise a manager who can alert the customer of potential damage before proceeding.

On a related matter, the service writer indicated our records "were in the system" since we have purchased tires and services for years from NTB in the Chicago area. He quoted me a price of $240.99 to replace a tire damaged by road hazard but indicated the tire would need to be shipped from Ohio and would take a week. I checked with Audi and found it was in their stock for $228.00. I also checked my records and found that I had purchased road hazard coverage on all my tires from NTB. I asked the service rep why he hadn't told me that and calculated a credit? He said he had discussed this with my wife which is absolutely untrue. A $150 credit was then calculated and I told him to order the tire. Subsequently the oil change fiasco occurred and I told them to cancel the order as I had no wish to do any more business with NTB.

I sent a letter to their executive office which was ignored and I then filed a claim with their claim administrator (Sedgwick). After many calls, photographs, and threats of legal action, Sedgwick finally acknowledged liability but I'm still waiting to see the check. Dealing with Sedgwick was a comedy of errors and ineptitude. They are indeed the perfect business partner for NTB
