Van Ru Credit Threatening letter appeared in the mail one day

Van Ru Credit Corporation sent a threatening letter to me regarding a debt that had been proven to be fraudulently acquired. If I didn't respond within 30 days, they were going to threaten me with a judgment.

Then, when I sent them a certified letter, they took forever to return the return receipt. In fact, they returned the return receipt over 3 weeks after the post office recorded the delivery to their post office box. When I examined the return receipt, I saw that someone signed for the letter, but refused to date it. When I looked at the postmark, I saw that the postmark date had been over a week after the date that the post office recorded.

What a bunch of sleazy sub-humans

Van Ru Credit Unauthorized charges

Van Ru called my place of employment, threatened to garnish my wages. they informed me that I could avoid garnishment by giving them access to my bank account for a monthly amount of $85.00. After 6mo. or so I became suspicious after never receiving a statement & closed the account. Anyone who can assist me in legal action against them please contact me.

For anyone who has been threatened by this company that they're wages are going to be garnished, this is illegal. I personally did some research and found out you send them a certified, return receipt notice asking them not to call you at home or work. Each state has their own laws regarding this, but most are similar. You can contact your local consumer's affairs office to get more detailed info. about your rights. If they keep calling you after you send them a written notice not to, you can take them to court.

As a former employee of Van Ru, let me tell you that as a borrower in default you do not receive statements. It is a courtesy to send any type of billing statement out, however you should have received a letter 7-10 days prior to the check being printed to notify you of he amount being withdrawn. I am assuming you were probably on a rehabilitation program and stopping payments 2/3 of the way to completion was not a smart choice. Once you have completed the program you would have moved to a new lender who would then begin sending you monthly statements. My suggestion is to contact whatever agency you are now with and work out an arrangement to be placed on the rehabilitation program.

Van Ru Credit Makes it impossible to get ahead of debt

When I found out that my $4K tax refund was intercepted due to my school loan being in default I immediately contacted Sally Mae to find out what I needed to do to get on top of this. I was told that my loan was now being handled by Texas Guarantee Student Loan who told me that they sent the debt to Van Ru. I contacted Van Ru and the rep that I spoke to, Nadia T., informed me my new balance and also let me know that I had been approved for $80 per month payments and that I could make arrangements to have this payment deducted from my bank account each month. I told her that I would call her back when I had time to look at my budget to see which day of the month would be the best time for the payment to go through.

One week later I called back to have the payments set up. I was helped by a new agent by the name of Hope. I explained to Hope that I wanted to make $150 payments each month, but I wanted to specify that the overage I would be paying would be applied to my principal. Hope informed me that they could not do that and that the majority of the money I paid would be applied to my interest and a small amount would be applied to my principal. I told her that if that was the case, I would just make the $80 payment each month. She then tells me that Vn Ru will need over $500 as deposit before they can begin processing the $80 payments. I informed her that Van Ru just took $4K from me under a month ago and that because of that, I did not have $500 to give them and I further explained that I thought it was ridiculous that I was calling to try to arrange payments to them and they were refusing to take my money. She told me that the only way to get on a "repayment" plan was to pay the deposit. I asked her if I mailed them a check for $100 each month were they going to refuse it. She stated that the would accept it, but my loan would still be considered in default and my ssn would still have a lien on it. She also said that my balance was collecting interest on a daily rate and this would not be in my best interest. I asked her if getting on the "repayment" plan would keep the interest from accruing and she said that it would not. So I asked her why was she trying to make it appear that if I paid them a $500 deposit that I would be helping myself when in actuality, being on a "repayment" plan would benefit no one but me. The more I questioned her, the more attitude she displayed and she eventually began to speak over me and cut me off before I could finish. She then said "You either want to get on a repayment plan or you don't, so which is it" I told her that since I did not have an additional $500 to give them after just giving them $4k, that I guess Van Ru was leaving me with no options to do anything other than mail them a payment each month and not get on the "repayment" plan.

Obviously they do not want to make it easy to pay your debt because they want your accout to collect as much interest as possible. They make it impossible to pay it off and they know this. I guess I will need to take out a small loan from my bank to pay this off so that I don't get eaten alive with interest. Certainly there is something that can be done to stop this. It's not like I just decided one morning I was going to stop paying my loan. When you're struggling and you have to decide between paying the electricity bill or paying your student loan payment, logic has to come in to play...

Van Ru didn't take a 4K tax refund from you, the Federal government offset your taxes because you were in Federal default on a student loan you didn't pay.
Prior to your loan going to collections the Federal government attempted to contact you at the last know address they had for you.
Since you obviously never received any letters about the defaulted loan, I'm curious as to what you thought happened to the loan since you hadn't paid it.
If you had used your college education to read the terms of your loan you would understand that once it is in default your options are gone and you can no longer dictate how you want your payments distributed.

Judging from the way you blame others for the situation you are in, you might want to consider a position with the Democratic Party.

Van Ru Credit Fraud and scam

I would like to say that if it wasn't for Demetrius C. I would be in big trouble. Van Ru has not been a very good collection agency for me. I have been lied to by so many of the callers, I can't even tell you how many. I have been told so many different things from my account managers I am totally upset. I would like to say that as of right now, my account has been updated but I am just waiting for something to go wrong and the phone calls start up again. I hope my account will still be the same as in the amount I am supposed to pay.

Negative 123. If you file as Head of Household (HOH) in most states they cannot garnish your wages up to $750. Never agree to pay, once you do that you may void any type of exemption. Just Google HOH exemption for student loans and your state and see what you need to do. You usually need to file an affidavit with your local court stating HOH exemption.

I just recently had an issue with their Florida office, when telling them I was switching jobs they decided to call my old employer. A week earlier I had told MICHELLE that I was switching jobs and that I wasn't able to pay the amount asked. She insisted that I " get the funds elsewhere" and when I tried and couldn't I called back asking if I could pay the following month when I get a check from my new employer. She then gave the phone to JOSH ACES which is a complete idiot with no manners and asfter explaining everything and asking if I could pay the bill in October he said he would terminate the account and have it sent back saying that I refuse to pay it which wasn't the case at all! He was negative and talking to me about my Financial responsibility and how I have none and I got myself into this mess.. obviously I knew that, I was young and dumb. He refused to let me talk to a manager which is probably because he did a good job at HARASSING me and a terrible job at trying to help me. These guys are slimballs, which no heart and no care as to what happened in my life to get here. People like that can be thrown to the dogs for all I care! SCREW THEM! Now to call the BBB on them for harassing me!

This company is trying to collect on "zombie debts". I recently was contacted by them to pay an old credit card debt that had already been settled. I recently bought a new car and ran my credit scores - they were all very good to excellent - 750+ Then these clowns start calling about a debt that is bogus. This is the new scam for these leeches. They buy a debt for pennies and try to collect on it. They can go #$%& themselves.

PLEASE READ! I NEED HELP! so... in 1998, I went to a college for one semester. I took a loan from PHEAA. Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, for 2, 625 dollars US. I had it deferre which added a thousand bucks. I never paid on it. after several years, they began garnishing my federal tax return. over 3 years, they took more than 4, 000 dollars from my Federal tax return. Now, last year, this Van Ru starts calling me, telling me that I owe them over 5 grand. What? I say, "what happended to the 4, 000 dollars that was garnished from me?" they tell me it all went to fees and interest and that I still owe over five thousand dollars. i tell them to get lost. A couple months ago, they called and offered me a settlement of 3, 000. I am trying to get back into school and I'm sick of dealing with this, so I agree. Well, I find out after filing my taxes, that I have 1, 500 bucks coming to me, which I know they will take anyway, so I say "take my tax return, then call me when it posts and let me know what the total I owe is." they called me last week and said my final payoff is 1300 dollars. I say " give me a week to get the money and call me back." they called me today and I informed them that I could not come up with the payoff. She offers me a "rehabilitation program" which after ten months, will get me out of default and come off my credit report. Great, sign me up. " so what is my total payoff?" i ask them. " i know its 1300 something, right?" she informs me that NO. that is not the amount anymore. Since I am unable to write a check for the full 1300 dollars, which was the rest of the settlement that we agreed on, that my new balance is 32oo dollars and I owe them. ! I told her exactly this... " I borrowed 2625 dollars and have paid back already almost 6 thousand dollars. If you think I'm gonna pay you people another 3 grand, you are out of your [censor]ing mind!" SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! LET'S START A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST THESE PEOPLE!

I am currently undergoing wage garnishment by means of van ru due to student loan. When I had requested how they compile their projected costs compared to the figures I had aquired through the Dept. of Ed. defaulted student loan it was mentioned to me they could not release this information even though they acknowledge a $ 2, 000 plus discrepancy. They have ordered my employer of whom I have discussed and seen the order of garnishment at a rate of 33.33% of my gross income weekly yet contend it is my employers responsability to calculate the rate of garnishment.Unfrtunately I have also discovered that the figures they use are calculated as projected costs and do not coincide with the Dept5. of Ed. figures.I have been regularly requesting and keeping track of payment postings and balance through this phone number [protected] the response is very efficient to keep track of ongoing balance although there is also a difference of over $2000.00 through this agency but $600.00 less van ru collection costs.I am presently contesting these figures by means of awg hearing unit. I shall update in future negative 123

I too have started receiving calls about unpaid student loans from 14 years ago --- that they can give me no information about. However years ago I had several years of my income taxes withheld to pay off these loans.

These people called my mother-in-laws house to get my unlisted phone number and told my elderly mother-in-law that they were my family trying to get in touch with me. That is just wrong on all levels! She was worried that there was an emergency.

For now I am blocking their numbers, but this is BS, I know I don't owe the money and these b people are rude and harassing.

I also started getting calls from this company but at my work. In fact, I received two phone calls on my job today by this company. I informed them that this is a place of employment and that they cannot call me on my job. Needless to say, after we hung up, the same lady called right back wanting to do an employment verification on me. When I asked what this was about, she said they were collecting for a charge off made back in 1995. That's 14 years ago and I'm just now getting calls from them. Can you believe that? If this has been on my credit report all these years, and it has, why would they just now start to harrass me? They are rude and have even hung up on me when they're the ones who called me. Go figure. I think this company is unprofessional and something should be done about their business practices.

Yes I totally agree, this company uses some questionable practices when trying to collect. I noticed that they had made several credit inquiries when I got a copy of my credit report. I called to see why they were interested in my credit report and felt the need to make several "hits" on my credit, without sending a bill or a letter explaining thier actions. They say that the bill is from an old student loan, (10 years ago) and they are acting on behalf of the US dept. of education. Since this is the first time I've heard anything about this loan I asked some questions. All I got was "we can not answer that" we can not send you that" why won't you pay? I hung up and thought it was a joke, but to my suprise I got phone call after phone call about this loan that they apparently know nothing about. Then I got the the joy of speaking to JOYCE who told me she was the president of the company "the big boss" and that she was personally going to go and pull our taped conversations to show me that I agreed to pay. I have yet to hear the taped conversations, and judging from her education level, I'm not sure she would begin to know how to tape a call in the first place. This company is a total nightmare and I am awaiting a phone call from the Ky att. Generals office, so hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.

Van Ru Credit They foisted their job onto the &client&

Today, Van Ru really pissed me off. I called them at their Arizona location only to give them a courtesy call. Commonwealth Edison had been billing me for the past 14 months at my former apartment even though I had been evicted from it 14 months ago. Just today I received their first letter, which prompted me to give them the courtesy call. I carefully explained the situation to the lady who answered, and I told her how she could verify it very simply by looking at a website pertaining to the eviction court. She had me wait a few minutes, saying she would check it out. Then some male, rude goober answered. He had no concern about the fact that I had not even lived there for the past 14 months and that Commonwealth Edison should have known that. He just told me I owed them the money and that I would have to work it out with them. To further aggravate the situation, they lied on the letter when they said the call would be toll free. I just learned they charged me for trying to help them!

Van Ru Credit Wrong name, but spouse's SSN

I was called at home 3 times asking for a person I do not know. They had my wife's SSN but not her correct name.

They called my work place asking for the same person. When I answered, the phone went "dead".

I called Van Ru Corp. After speaking to the 3rd person, I finally spoke to the "supervisor". They denied calling my work place. I was accused of lying.

They are trying to collect on an account from 1991 for a car repossessed in New York in 1995. We have never lived in New York and have never had a car repossessed.

We are having our phone number changed to an unlisted number.

Van Ru Credit Threatened me & hung up on my mother

I was called regarding my student loan and after giving some information, the processor, Mr. Hanson, at extension 6683, threatened me when I didn't want to give him my debit card information until he gave me some information. I explained to him that I had not received any mailings regarding this loan and it is my intention to pay it back. He had me extremely upset and I was driving in my car. My mother called to verify this information and hung up on her. What kind of agency are you running when your employees threaten people? Is that really the way to resolve things? I was so upset, I had to pull over in a gas station. Do you really care about anything other that bullying people.

Van Ru Credit They hit my checking account

I have tried to work with this company. The first time they called the person was very rude and unprofessional. They demanded payment or they would garnish my payroll check.

I started on a program that I felt was going to help me clear this debit only to be laid off from work.

I had given them permission to withdraw $50 from my checking account. I was under the impression it was to be a one time deal, only to have them hit it again the following month. I called and told them not to withdraw anymore, but the following month it happens again. I called asking why they were doing this. The guy laughed and said that the check had been returned. Well no ****! The account has been idle for several months with a negative balance while I tried to get it back into the positive.

This company uses scare tactics to get people to pay. So I am getting a lawyer!

Van Ru has called my house repeatedly looking for a Wayne Sanderson. I told them I am not Wayne Sanderson, have never been Wayne Sanderson, and am not planning on becoming Wayne Sanderson. I told them I've lived in my house for over 7 years, and either their database is VERY out of date, or their client gave them the wrong information. I suggested they look Mr. Sanderson up in the phone book as he IS listed (and not under my number). The lady on the phone said, "We're a financial institution -- we don't look people up in the phone book." I told her that they are not a "financial institution", they're a collection agency. I asked her which business filed the wrong number as I don't want to keep being mistaken for Mr. Sanderson. She said that there was no information as to who filed the number. I asked her if as a credit agency they didn't even have a record of the company they were trying to collect for, and she hung up on me.

My husband defaulted on his student loan before we were married. When we got married we called them to set up a payment plan to get back into good standing. They originally wanted 1500.00 down and 200 a month. We talked them down to 500.00 down and 200 a month. We have been paying every month since Oct and next month is our last payment before our acct goes to a new lender who will adjust our payment to a little less. I think VanRu is a okay company who has tried making this easy on us. I guess it really depends on who your Rep is since people can be rude no matter what company it is. I think if you call and are honest with them and nice that they should be willing to work things out for your best interest. All of our fees will also we taken off when the new lender gets the loan.
Hope this helps someone.

My husband owed a debt for a credit card that he didn't pay because he was incarcerated. After he got out we started getting phone calls and letters from Vanru. We spoke to them on the phone and they were very nice and they set up to take out monthly payments to pay off the balance owed over the next 8 months. So far they have taken out 2 payments and they have not bothered us since we set up the plan. I'm hoping that there are no problems once the balance is paid off as now I'm reading so many bad reviews about them.

my brother's daughter used his info and defaulted on 15K loan and now vanru is after him. they took his $900 income tax and just started garnishing his wages without a response to letters that were sent to them explaining that the debt was not his. after reading all of your comments, i think this will be an up hill battle for him, but i am going to help him get out of this as much as i can. we have not spoken to them nor have they ever sent any collection letters to him until the one from govt saying his income tax was intercepted by them. i am going to be writing to the complaint address someone listed and i will be contactingthem on his behalf. eventhough that was his daughter, she had no right to use and abuse his info knowing that she was not paying after leaving school. i wish all you guys luck in resolving and its a wonder why there has not been a class action law suit against them for unfavorable tactics in the recovery of debt.

Here's some info I recieved from my state board of financial aid. If Van Ru claims that they are calling about a student loan you can visit this site to find out WHO actually is owed for your loans at this time. www.nslds.ed.gov
If you don't recall your pin for the fafsa, then you can request at this site also. Or you can call this number [protected] and they can tell you if Van Ru has a right to collections toward your student loans.
By the way, the people at my state financial board here in Louisiana says they have never heard of this group at all related to collections.
Hope this info is helpful.

Van Ru Credit They gave me the wrong information on a debt payment

Mrs Marjorie Reynolds called me and told me to send an extra payment to get my debt sent back to direct loans early on my 9th payment. I did that March 27th.

Then April 21 van ru called me saying I need another payment a 10th one before it can be sent off and it is needed by the 24th of April. when I told them I didn't have the money for that payment mr Reynolds began to tell me how they could garnish all wages, retirement, ssi payments, etc.

Then she began to tell me how it's no ones fault that this some times happens with the lender which I though was crap because I was assure that my early payment would finally lift me out of default. They are incompetent.

I have been getting harrassed by Van Ru Credit Corp. for a few months now and ever single complaint I heard is exact in the way that am being treated as well. I too was talked to in a unprofessional way. The man that I was assigned to calls me everyday at least four times a day, even Sundays. Right now I am not doing well so I hardly have the money to pay them but the little money that I do have has to go to all the overdraft and return check fees that my husband is accruing because they are unlawfully charging him twice a week without his permission. I honestly do not know what to do with this. We are further into debt because I trusted those people. The man told me to talk to my husband and have him call back to give verbal permission to use his account, when I talked to my husband he said we have no money in the bank so I told the man and he said that he will not and can not put the check trough without my husbands permission . Therefore I thought I was safe but now they keep charging us even though they know nothings in there.

Recently I called to file a complaint with his supervisor . I tols her what he did and she got really rude with me and told me to money gram her the money right now. Wow, is all I thought, these people never quit. So I did a little research on them and now that I know what they really are, I refuse to give my money to them. I dont trust them at all! So garnish my wages andwhatever else you want to do!
