I purchased a Whirlpool Calypso washer about three years ago. I had about 8-10 service calls on it in a 1 year time frame due to many problems. Best Buy replaced it under the Lemon Law last year with same model at my request. I had purchased the extended warranty which was pricey!

The same model, round two, had the exact same problems with the U joints, leveling off balance, not spinning the clothes properly, drain lines clogging, etc... So I proceeded to have the second washer removed and replaced with a different model this time. Best Buy refused to replace it because I hadn’t purchased the extended warranty again (NO WAY $$$$) and referred me to Whirlpool. Whirlpool refused to replace this piece of junk washer because it has been over a year since I purchased it, despite multiple documented problems.

There is a current class action law suit out against whirlpool on this model, yet they will not replace it? I have filled out the paperwork to be part of the class action law suit. But my washer is still defective and I can’t afford to replace it with my money out of pocket.

I have another service call scheduled on this junk washer as we speak. I want the thing taken out of here and a new washer replacement. I DON’T want another Calypso washer for the replacement.

Whirlpool is aware of ALL my complaints over the past few years regarding this washer yet they refuse to replace it.

We purchased the Calypso in 2002. Had the pump and other parts replaced about 4 times over the years. It was originally purchased from Sears and we purchased a 3 year warranty extension through Whirlpool directly in 2004. It was about $300 but it just paid for itself. Tech came out for a service call and said he would have to request almost all new major parts. He said he was going to request every part he could and for us to call in and request Whirlpool replace the machine. We called and they said they needed to have the tech tell them they should replace. Thirty minutes later (same day service guy came out) they called and said they would provide 75% of the cost of a new Whirpool Washer of our choice. That same day we purchased a new Washer at Lowes and purchased Lowes replacement plant ($100 for a four year protection plan.)

I have bought a semi automatic washing machine.Its timer is not working. I have complained about this to service centre, Jamshedpur ( dated on 14-05-07). After several reminder, every time they are saying that we will do within two days but no one is coming to change it. It is in warranty period.

This marvelous machine is on it's 3rd water pump, second pressure switch and has had 5 svc calls in 18 months. It has ruined multiple pairs of pants with bleach spots and over one dozen towels by pulling on the weave. I have spent over 200+ dollars at the laundermat and 3 partial days away from work.Today's unsuccessful service call was the last straw. I have never had such a poorly designed appliance in my life.

I bought my Calypso piece of junk in November, 2001. Did not work right since day one. Good thing I purchased extended warranty since I've had over 15 service calls in 5 years. Extended warranty just expired and the company won't renew me because of excessive complaints and service calls. I've called and written to the warranty company (NSI), the service center (A&E Factory Service) and Whirlpool, all of whom will do nothing for me. Last week, the machine finally died. It's full of water, and Whirlpool won't even tell me how to disassemble it to take the water out! Of course my new machine is not made by Whirlpool. I feel like throwing it in the back of a truck and dumping it on the front lawn of Whirlpool corporate HQ.

This piece of S*%^T is sitting in my garbage dump area under wraps because of the infamous LP error appearing on the display and the machine just stopped. I hate this machine. When the class action suit came up, my machine was working, then in less than 6 months the machine went bonkers. The remedy for the class action did not seem to protect me as it was only for those who had previous service issues. I did not have any at that time when I received the docs.

I called Whirlpool and they refused to even entertain my calls about this machine. They insisted that I should pay for a service guy to come out to look and the machine and the any charges thereafter because the stupid warranty had already expired. I no longer want to buy anymore of the crappy washing machines from this manufacturer, and have basically struck them off my list in any appliance purchase! I suggest every consumer in USA does the same as a company that is so irresponsible in selling a defective product and refused to take responsibility is just the agony.

I purchased a Maytag Neptune Washer in July 2005. I purchased the extended warranty via NSI. Shortly thereafter, Whirlpool purchased Maytag. In early January of 2008, I got the error message "LR" which apparently means that the washer's motor is not running. I called NSI and they dispatched A&E. It is now 2/19/08. A&E has been out multiple times, approximately 8 or so. They have also missed two service calls that they scheduled (one of which the repair man said he set me up for, but apparently never did).

Whirlpool evidently gave them the wrong part numbers, or series numbers twice, so parts had to be sent back twice. The circuit board has been replaced, the water pump has been replaced, and the wiring has been replaced. No one seems to know what exactly is wrong with this machine. No one seems to be able to get it up and running. When the service man left today, he told me he was ordering a bunch of new parts, including the circuit board and wiring - WHICH WERE JUST REPLACED ON THE LAST VISIT! He claims that he has never seen so many problems with one machine. He also states that Whirlpool must declare it unrepairable. He has no idea what is wrong with it or what can be done to fix it.

I called NSI and A&E. Under the NSI warranty's lemon provision four issues entitle you to a new machine. According to NSI, however, this means THREE COMPLETED REPAIRS. In other words, although under anyone's definition this machine should be a lemon, as long as A &E NEVER succeeds in getting it up and running, its all still the same repair - all this stuff only counts as one reapair. Essentially, what they seem to be contending is that they can rebuild the machine over 6, 8, 10, 12, 18, 24 months and, as long as it's NEVER fixed, its not a lemon, it's just one ongong repair. They just get to keep sending A&E out, and I just get to keep taking time off of work. Interesting, no?

NSI says that it's a lemon under these circumstances if the A&E repair person deems it unrepairable. The A&E person states that Whirlpool must so state.

I will NEVER purchase an NSI extended warranty again. I will also never purchase a Whirlpool product again. For those of you who feel the same, BE CAREFUL...Whirlpool makes a number of different products under different manufactuer's names. I understand that GE and Frigidaire make their own products. I will give those companies a chance before I ever buy anything serviced by Whirlpool again.

I am in the middle of yet another Calypso nightmare. My machine has had nothing but problems since the day I bought it. I called for a repair three week ago (ob and ld error codes) and M&H has been here twice and each time the minute the technician leaves and I try to run a load it breaks down. I called M&H because of the bad experience I had with A&E. Now for the last week and a half they won't return my calls and the warranty company can't send another company out until M&H contacts them. I was turned down in the class action suit because I didn't have repair bills for the repairs done under warranty because A&E never left me any paperwork when they came out (nor did anyone else) so I'm stuck with a piece of junk that breaks down every couple of months since day one. I have finally decided to let the extended warranty expire and let the machine go where it should have gone in the first place, in the dump. I think I'll buy a machine with an on/off switch and that's it. I hate this machine. During the first repair visit by M&H for the current breakdown they told my mom (I was out at the time and she met the repairman) that the problem was that I wasn't using HE detergent. When I called them back out and showed them that I was using HE detergent, the repairman said that I was using too much and that I was only supposed to use a tablespoon. I asked him how he thought I would clean a load of clothes with a tablespoon of detergent. He said he didn't know but that was what the company was recommending. Give me a break. As soon as he left after "repairing" it, I tried to run a load with NO detergent. It broke down in the spin cycle with the ld error code. So much for the tablespoon of detergent. If you own a Calypso, I feel sorry for you. You just threw your money down the drain. No pun intended.

I have a Calypso and it doesn't fill the drum with enough water to wash a gnats [censored] . I have to rewash the clothes . This Calypso has worked ( knock on wood since 2004 ) But for the sake of saving water it's very stingy with water . I have read other reviews about other peoples Calypso's not getting clothes clean . Not sure what brand I'll get next time, I inherited this set really .

I bought my Calypso in 2003 or 2005. I have been extremely lucky up until about 2 months ago. I have always used the HE detergent at the recommended amount on the package. Where I ran into problems was with the LD error code when I washed bathroom rugs that had a high lint output. The amount of lint produced clogged the pump and so it would not drain. A new pump was installed and a week later the same thing happened. I now wash those three rugs individually and always check the lint collector at the back of the tub after every load of laundry. I agree that these machines are total junk. I can't justify new machines right now but it is in my budget for next year. I'm really disappointed in Whirlpool's response to this. The other problem I had was the serial number was on a removable tag inside the washing machine and it came off from the moisture. When I needed to purchase the new pump it took forever to figure out which one because I no longer had the serial number. When I questioned putting it in a place where it could so easily fall off I was told that is where they all are. Not to my recollection but since I don't keep my old washing machines I certainly couldn't prove them wrong.

I have a Whirlpool Calypso and it is a piece of junk. It shredded some clothes early on and a repairman came out - under warranty. He couldn't figure out what was shredding the clothes, so replaced every part on the inside of the tub that came in contact with clothing. I thought we were good, but sporadically throughout the years I've had clothes come out torn. When the class action suit came about, I didn't qualify because I hadn't had all the problems that were reported and I also had repairs done only under warranty, so no bills to show. In the past several months, the machine has ripped more clothing and stained many items. Several articles of clothing have come out of the wash with grease stains. They have literally come out dirtier than they went in. It got to the point that I didn't want to wash anything that was too nice or expensive. I cringed when house guests over the holidays wanted to do some laundry in fear that their clothes could get stained or torn. I have purchased the washing machine cleaner for HE machines and run several loads of just the cleaner, but it hasn't helped. The latest thing is that I get different error codes with each wash. All error codes occur as the cycle abruptly ends and the clothes are soaking wet. The last load I did smelled so badly of moldy water. I have placed calls to Whirlpool and have left messages with the machine's issues and my contact info, but have not heard back. I have begun looking for a new machine and I've had salesmen tell me that Whirlpool machines are the best and they get the best ratings. I've replied, really, is that why I'm replacing my $1000. machine after 7 years? I was then told it was very unusual for Whirlpool. Then I said I had a Calypso and then I got the "Ohhh... yeah. That wasn't a good one" response. At least it's legendary!
