A work colleague and myself had reservations for 3 nights at the Mercure Forbach in France. Due to rail issues, breakdowns, the train we were on returned to Cologne and we could not get another train until the following day, so had to stay in Cologne.
The following day, we managed to get to Forbach, for the business meeting. When we arrived at the hotel, we were informed that they had cancelled our reservations. The staff checked and they had not charged us, but the disappointing thing was my colleague emailed to say we were still coming. There were 2 empty rooms still, but the staff mentioned they required those in case there was a problem with a room. They did not attempt to look for alternate arrangements for us, but left me to call my travel centre out of hours in Australia to find me somewhere to stay, which I get billed for. At the same time, they were looking to extend the stay of a guest that was already checked in.
There seemed very little care or concern that it had taken over 24hrs since setting off from Duisburg, that we finally arrived at the hotel and makes me consider whether I should look to this chain in the future.
