Mixed Experiences with Ark House Foundation
As someone who deeply cares about animal welfare, my interactions with Ark House Foundation have been a mix of emotions. While the foundation aims to provide a safe haven for pets in need, there have been instances where the adoption process seemed unclear and left some individuals feeling scammed. It's disheartening to hear about experiences where potential adopters felt misled or encountered difficulties in communication. However, there are also positive stories of successful adoptions and quick matches between pets and loving families, showcasing the foundation's potential to make a difference. It's crucial for Ark House Foundation to prioritize transparency, clear communication, and genuine care for both the animals and the adopters to ensure a positive and trustworthy experience for all involved.
We are very happy and appreciative of Adopt A Pet
We were able to find and adopt our perfect dog in three weeks. I do not find that to be an unreasonable time. We are extremely happy with the process. Adopt A Pet provides information from many rescue organizations, and some respond quicker than others. I was amazed at all of these negative reviews since our experience was excellent.
CNH Adoption of Oreo
CNH rescue adoption was a pleasant experience. They were very friendly and professional. They allowed my daughter and I to spend time with Oreo without pressuring us. They explained everything and answered all of my questions. I would highly recommend their services. They are Great people to work with. Thanks CNH for a pleasant experience

Two wonderful loves of my life
I used adopt a pet because I wasn't sure how to even look for a new kitten. So I googled where to adopt a pet and this site popped up. 5 days later I bought my gorgeous cupcake. And then months later I used it YET AGAIN! I adopted my sweet cannoli :) now im planning on definitely looking for my third on there. I love my 2 kitty's so much. They are so well behaved they're sweet. Not a mean bone in their body!
Seamless adoption
Im really shocked at all these negative reviews and i wont discount their experiences but mine was just fine. I didnt think to look up this site before using it and maybe its because im coming from the other side; im the person who gave up a pet. I like that they gave you tips about what to ask potential adopters, that was really helpful for me. Also gave you their contact info to contact ASAP. I dont think i will be using if i need to adopt, but as for the pet owners perspective, it was great. I hope its not a scam.
Love my fur baby
I am surprised to see so many negative reviews. I'm assuming it's more about the agencies or individuals putting pets up for adoption versus the site itself. I signed up for alerts. I didn't pay for premium subscription however the first application I submitted was review and approved in 48 hrs. By the end of the same week I had my puppy. She was shipped to me from SC safe and sound. My recommendation for this looking to adopt; review the organization and/or individual carefully. You should never have to pay upfront. Make sure you meet in a safe place. Hope this helps!
Extremely happy!
Very happy with the communication from Adopt A Pet. They sent information frequently to me that closely matched my request. It was all up to me to decide. I waited and turned down until I decided which pet to adopt. The process was terrific. I'm extremely happy with the contact person who told me up front what to expect - slow at the beginning, training, observe, more training, etc. She came home so scared and timid, expected this at her age, it's all new and not what she was used to. I'm not a new pet owner so I went into this knowing my responsibilities. She's getting lots of cuddles, helpful happy training, and she's warming up quickly. You have to help them. I'm 100% happy with Adopt A Pet!
Please beware scam! I paid250$for nothing
If anyone ask you for cash do not give. And please confirm and ask them to take a picture with the dog or cat with some particular sign. Like "Can you take a photo of the cat with post it written
Bonded kitten pair found an AMAZING home!
I turned to adopt a pet.com as a last resort after humane societies, no kill shelters and pet rescues all fell through on their promises to help me place an abandoned cat who had a litter of 4 kittens.
The site is easy to use, I set up a profile for each kitten and mama cat with current photos. I was honest in my description of each one's personality and temperament.
Once I had applications come in, I vetted each one, made sure they had a veterinarian they knew and trusted, good home, clean, etc. Then I listened for signs that they were aware of the need for and knowledge of how to kitten proof a home.
I answered questions but did not volunteer a ton of information because I wanted to give the potential adopter room to express their thoughts and desires so I could better ascertain what type of pet parent they would be.
I asked for references of people who would vouch for them as being excellent pet parents. Some applicants offered this without my asking.
I listened to see what type of homelife they described to get a good idea of what the kittens would be introduced to.
I set up a video chat so they could see them in action and also asked to come see their home to ensure they kittens were going to a safe and well cared for home.
I believe this site is what you make it. Could there be scams? Yes! There are ways to safe guard against them. Be smart and vigilant. Do not pay an individual for a pet and never pay anything without seeing them first. Ask for a video meet and greet. Once you meet in person make sure it is initially in a public space and do not go check a private home if you have any misgivings.
This bonded pair, brother and sister, will now have a home and be together for life.

Terrible experience
I agree with others who post about lack of response, having to give so much information, having to repeat the application process over and over, etc. But we were invited by a woman who claims to rescue dogs to meet a dog in Connecticut, an hour and 40 minute drive. She said we would be meeting with some guy who alleges, via a fancy website, to be a trainer. She had "an interview " and couldn't be there. We were to introduce our dog to the new one. We arrived at a house that looked like a shack and saw a guy who motioned to us and then disappeared. Several dogs were in a small fenced in area barking. When he reappeared, he yelled at them to shut up. I asked if I should bring my dog. The "rescue" woman had told us our dog would meet the new one in a "lovely ' yard and the dog loves other dogs and probably wouldnt even notice us... our dog likes other dogs too, but not aggressive ones... she is small, friendly and gentle. He opened the front door and two dogs tried to escape. He pushed them back with a broken tennis racket, went back inside and closed the door. We waited. He reemerged, ripped the leash off our dog and threw a plastic rope as a choke hold around her neck and dragged her in the house. What are you doing, I said, frightened now. You weren't coming in he said. We were in a small, dark and ugly livingroom where two dogs converged on ours, surrounding her. One of them was growling. And not playfully. Our dog put her tail between her legs and sunk down, cringing with her hair standing on end. She's afraid, I said---I must have still expected some "normal ' behavior out of him. Sbe's fine, he replied. I'll make the judgment for my own dog, I said. I replaced her leash and said for him to get that rope off her. Your dog isn't socialized with other dogs, said the person with the broken tennis racket and clearly no idea how to allow two dogs to meet... I repeat, two. I mentioned the lovely back yard and he said I have a back yard. Come on. We're out of here, I said and we beat it back to the car. We felt unsafe and concerned for the dogs. I was unable to find out who the house belongs to... the rescue lady referred to it as hers... but neither she nor Mr. Broken Tennis Racket are listed at that address. A BMW was parked in a sort of garage on the side... the fee was 650. I don't know what was going on, but this came through the Adopt a Pet site, which I will never again visit. I did report this to the site and ask them to contact me for details, but I have not yet heard from them.
Broke two young children's hearts
I am not one to leave reviews, however the experience my family and I have been through NEEDS to be known so this does not happen to another family.
My family and I have been looking for a dog for months. We wanted to find a doberman pincer type dog and wanted to provide a home for a dog in need. We looked into breeders however they can be expensive and we wanted to give a dog a home that really NEEDED one.
After finding a puppy, through adopt-a-pet.com we started the process. After filling out the application and following all instructions to the letter on June 10th, we waited. Literally three weeks went by before Back road rescue brigade emailed us back on July 1st apologizing that they we busy but wanted to know if we were still interested and can we send the application. Of coarse we were. Back road rescue brigade stated they never received or application. No matter, I resent the previously sent application to the same email address and then waited. Another week went by and we received an email stating that everything looks great. They reached out to our vet and references and emailed us that we were approved for Celeste (the dog we waned to rescue). Another week went by and I did not hear anything, so I reached out and asked if there was any forward progress with the adoption process and if anything further was required on my end. They responded and stated all is good an we will work out the acquisition details. They informed me of how much money I would have to pay to adopt and where and when I would need to pick up our new family member. My wife, 9 year old daughter and 10 year old son were ecstatic. We went shopping for a bed, name tag, food and all the other fun items you get when getting a new dog. After some texting back and forth working out the details we we set up a time and day to pick up the dog (Friday July 19th). I worked out with my job that I was leaving early as we needed to travel an hour to get her. My kids and wife were super excited as they were part of the entire process. Last night (Wednesday July 17th at 9 p.m. I get a call stating that the dog got away form the handler, didn't come back when they called her and had to go down the street to get her. (her being the dog). Celeste is fine but now I am being told that they think the 6 month old puppy may have separation anxiety and needs to see a therapist to be analyzed. Being receptive to this I inquired the process. I was told it will take a month and they do not know what that will yield. Then I was told that they changed their mind and do not want us to have Celeste and for the only reason is they are worried about the dogs mental state. I get it, the dog does come first, however WHY is this being brought to my attention two days before we were scheduled to pick her up. Why am I not allowed the opportunity to provide the health care for the animal that will be spending the rest of its life with us. I begged and pleaded if there is anything I can do to secure Celeste and ensure she will have a loving home and family. I was pretty much blown off and told to look online as there may be another dog I may like.
My kids cried themselves to sleep last night and I am furious. Not that I was not allowed to adopt the dog, that the whole above process actually took place to have them pull the rug out form under us. This morning was no better with the kids. Tears and crying begging me to let them call this person and see if they can convince them that Celeste will have a good home and the attention she needs.
This business, if it could be called that has caused heart ache of two young children and that makes me sick. ANYONE thinking of using adopt a pet.com. Know that they do not properly vet the people that post animals for adoption on their site. They are setting up individuals to have their time wasted and be let down at the last minute. I attempted to reach out to adopt a pet both times. Once when a response was not received on the initial request for adoption and now to explain the above situation. NO RESPONSE. I am disgusted with the entire experience and sick to my stomach over this. I will be leaving this review on every site I can find to ensure that no other child goes through this heart ache.
Scammed
My family and I were looking for a new addition to our family, and we wanted to adopt a cat. However, most of our local shelters weren't accepting applications at this moment, due to COVID-19. So, we browsed online for a few days and discovered adopt-a-pet.com. DISCLAIMER: I am writing this review not to criticize the website, but a lister on this app.
We came across this Birman cat that we really loved. The lister stated that he was good with kids and good with dogs, which was great because we have two children and a small dog at home, so we thought this cat would be the perfect addition to our family. So, we filed an application to adopt him. The next morning, the lister replied to our application and said that she thought we were the perfect family and agreed to arrange a time for us to meet the cat.
Later that day, we scheduled to meet at a local parking lot in front of Walmart. Originally, we had planned to meet at 11:30 am. When we arrived, we called the lister----no answer. So we waited, because who knows, maybe they were late. And so, we stayed and waited in that parking lot for another 15 minutes. Still no text or call. At this point, we were starting to get frustrated. We called again, still no answer. After 5 minutes, we FINALLY received a call from the lister. What did she say? She told us that a family member wanted to keep the cat for another night, I'm assuming since they were too attached. We held our breath and agreed, and headed home.
That night, we arranged AGAIN to meet at Walmart at 12:30 am. Of course, I was starting to get red flags since all this was sort of sketchy. Why hadn't she called us sooner, but called us 15 minutes after what the arranged time was? Surely if she hadn't left the house she could've contacted us, or at least given us a quick text saying "Hey, we decided to keep her for one more night." But, no. Instead, she chose to contact us after 2 missed calls and numerous texts asking where she was. However, I shoved these thoughts aside and chose to give her the benefit of the doubt. I waited one more night.
The next morning, before we set out to get the cat, we called the lister. No answer. We rang once more, still no answer. At this point, everything was starting to become more suspicious and the red flags were waving like crazy. Still, we went forward and arrived at Walmart, calling her, yet AGAIN, to confirm that she was coming. No answer. Not even a single text. NOTHING. We waited at Walmart for the next 20 minutes, hoping that maybe she was stuck in traffic, and that she could give us a call soon. This was not the case. We made several calls and no one answered. We were so frustrated, we turned the car back around and headed home.
Once we got home, we texted her asking where she was and gave her one more call. STILL NO ANSWER. I was losing all hope at this point and everything was so frustrating. Then, OUT OF THE BLUE, I suddenly received a notification on my phone. IT WAS HER. So, NOW she decides to message us? I opened the text, and it was a long paragraph describing how she had BROKEN her phone and had just got it fixed. She kept saying how she couldn't find any way of reaching me, and that she can only now.
Now that got me thinking. Since she said she had family members (that wanted to keep the cat for one more night), couldn't she have borrowed one of their phones? Better yet, couldn't she have found a computer or such? And even if she had broken her phone while she was driving, surely if she had taken it to the tech store, couldn't she have asked to borrow THEIR phone for a second? We replied with all these questions, and its been a few hours already and she hasn't responded yet at all. Not a call, nothing.
This is why I want to write this review. Since not all pets listed on this website are from shelters, as some are from private owners, be careful about who you are adopting from. If you see red flags, back out IMMEDIATELY. Do not waste your time and energy investing in something that will not turn out good. Of course, there are good people on the site and some pets ARE from shelters. Be careful who you are contacting, there could be many scammers like this one floating on the web.
We ended up with not only NO CAT but also frustration. Honestly, it's not even about how we didn't end up with the cat, but how furious this person was and how disgusting the behavior is. This sort of thing is pure scammer behavior, but there's nothing that we can do, as there is no address to their house or anything. I hope this review can alert anyone who is wanting to adopt from that website. Listen to the red flags, and make sure you are adopting from someone that can be trusted.

I joined, paid the fee, and it won't let me list. That button won't light up. You cannot contact these people. I've been scammed.
The bot they have for help is useless. It tells you to email them but provides no email address. This is incredibly frustrating.
I am going to be homeless and I need a home for my cat. I am desperate and they preyed upon that. Sick company.
Claimed loss: $5
Desired outcome: I want to post my pet like I was told I'd be able to.

Discrimination against me
This company told me that they have the right to determine who is good enough to be in their listings. They told me They need to stop and tell people the truth. They don't want to have any responsibility to why they turn people away. that I don't qualify to be in there network.. I asked why ? What did I do ? Who did I offend? I did nothing to anybody that works there. Not sure why I am not allowed to be a part of this network because I've done nothing and my company is done. Nothing. I have done nothing everything I provided was everything they requested. I am so disappointed. I will tell everyone one . Every shelter . Every rescue. Tell all my groups on social media. About how I have been treated at petfinder. I see why the reviews are awful.
Desired outcome: A apology. Delete all my info and any info they have about me or my group. I want these nasty people to take my info and throw it away. Never contact me again. I will never forget what they did.
Adopt a pet
I applied to regime a Siberian cat for $300. The next day I was contacted and said due to all the attention this cat received the price is now $500. I declined because I was uncomfortable with the change in price. Next they wanted to know how much I was willing to pay. Then they said they would work with me since I was a good fit. Red flags were being raised. After looking at reviews I found many negative reviews and that conclusion is why I say SCAM! I can only upload 2 screenshots but I have more.
Desired outcome: This site should be looked into and not be able to do business !
Adopt a pet absence of contracting guidance and procedural guidance for fostering/rehoming
I met a person named Renisha Ricks on Adopt-A-Pet.org for my 12 year old Persian cat. I needed to temporarily rehome her and if a good fit, permanently rehome her.
The meeting was very unusual. Renisha Ricks claimed she was in law at Northwestern University, and verified a photo of her online. Being a Northwestern alumni and staff at the affiliate hospitals, myself, I thought it was a great fit.
When I asked if she would do a zoom interview she gave me an excuse and needed an answer quickly if I was willing to give my cat for adoption. I suggested we meet and asked politely if we could meet and chat at the park. When we met we talked for 1 minute and she cheerfully took my cat in a backpack.
I had my son in the car so I was someone occupied and thought we would follow up over the phone, that I would hear how my cat was adjusting and follow up with a contract if all was well.
She sent me photos the first week, then I reached out to schedule a drop by to drop off some treats and toys for my cat, whom she immediately renamed, which was odd, and also had asked if she had kittens, which was a indirect way to find out if my cat had been spayed and is eligible for breeding.
When I tried to schedule a visit, she claimed she moved and and never replied to me again. I was advised to file a report to authorities by Adopt A Pet and called police on August 2. Renisha answered my phone once then threatened that if I were to contact her that it would be considered harassment (absolutely absurd as I have sent her two texts to schedule a reasonable visit to meet with her and my cat to ensure all is well and drop off toys and treats.
I am searching for my cat. Adopt A Pet has no screening policies for new owners or contracting guidance or assistance with trial periods with new owners. I received no fee or had any contracts signed and my cat is now missing with someone whose mental is questionable from Adopt A Pet.
Adopt a pet
Contacted local Adopt a Pet about possibly adopting a dog. Woman emailed me back, saying you are not eligible since you did not say you have a fenced backyard. No one asked me whether I have a fenced backyard and their website did not say that I have to say that on an inquiry email. The woman was rude, and I am seriously wondering if they are actually interested in adopting out pets, or if something else is going on.
Desired outcome: I think this outfit needs to be investigated in depth.
Same thing happened to me. I have to wonder if they are interested in adopting their pets.
I was also rejected because someone called me on Wed and I did not return the call until Friday. This was a 9 year old dog!
If you read the above complaint. I think they may be up to something sinister instead.
I agree.
Rehoming service-scammer central
I completed an adoption form for a male teacup chihuahua. The people could barely speak english, kept pushing to get me to send them $100 deposit to put the pup in my name (before even physically seeing or meeting the dog). I tried to contact adopt-a-pet, but they don't answer their phone, and haven't responded to my text or email. When I completed the application, it stated that I would receive an email and link from adopt-a-pet to pay the adoption fee, and not to send $ to the owner. But these people told me that I needed to pay $100 deposit and then once I received the pup, they would send me a link to send the remaining $99 to adopt-a-pet. The guy told me to send it in paypal using friends and family (because paypal can't assist the customer in getting the $ back if it's sent using that rather than sending it for goods and services). I sent it using goods and services, and he immediately refunded it and said that he didn't have immediate access to the cash. Definitely felt like a scam, especially with sight unseen.
Desired outcome: Would've loved to have adopted the furbaby, but these people seemed off.
Adoption of a pet named Molly
From the very beginning a volunteer named Melanie Morrison gave my wife and I nothing but problems with the adoption of Molly at carolinacaninerescue. We sent applications twice, and sent a signed contract also. She answered almost none of our emails and returned none of our calls. This has been going on for quite a while. If you check your records you can see that we met all of qualifications for a good choice of adoptive parents. She even put us in touch with the person who would do the transfer from her facility to our home. His name is Walter. He was ready to go with the transfer. Yesterday I received a letter of congratulation from Stella& Chewy congratulating me of the adoption of Molly. I immediately sent another email to Melanie to ask about the adoption and assumed that we were approved. She told me point blank that we haven't been approved. I have no idea how long it takes to adopt a dog but the amount of time she spent on this approval is outrageous. I was so furious that I sent her a very curt email advising her that I was withdrawing my application and cancelling my contract. Her treatment of my wife and I during this process was terrible. We have adopted before and it only took two weeks to pick up our pet. This is with Fuzzy Paws.com.
I think that your organization should think twice about having her as a contact person for potential adopters.
Thank You,

I am complaining about poor service and false promises
This complaint regards one of the dogs named MOLLY. The email correspondence went on for a little over a week. I was communicating with Carolina rescue services with one of the workers. You asked that I not mention any names, so I won't. She went as far as giving me the transport service they use but advised that Molly wasn't ready for travel yet. I contacted their transport service and was told that he would pick up and deliver Molly for $125.00 which was agreeable to me. As far as I was concerned the dog was mine. The next time I looked at the site she was gone. I sent a scathing email to MM to let her know that what she did was inappropriate. I will never use your site again.
I suggest you hire a different person to make these decisions and fire MM.
Thank You.
Ralph Petraglia
Desired outcome: It would have been nice if I was advised that Molly was going to someone else and to choose another dog if possible.
east coast humane society
I was told I was approved by this company to adopt a dog. I was given a number to text to confirm and was given an email address to pay $750 adoption fee to. I was never responded to after many calls, texts and emails. When I googles more about this company a lot of people were saying it was a scam. Adopt a pet should not be sending people dogs from this website. I am now out $750
Desired outcome: refund
Omg this is horrible using actual peoples pets to scam other who legitimately want to adopt a pet for their money! Ugh 😑!
Rehoming issues
I recently adopted a dog after much communication with its owner. She explained the reasons for her wish to rehome and when she delivered the dog, she reiterated that my home would be exactly what would be good for her dog. I paid for the dog on line. He was so sweet and exactly what I had been looking for. We bonded and I was in heaven. She texted me the next day that she needed to come back for the dog; that she had made a mistake, and on and on. It was very emotional for me because I had been making application after application for months and finally was getting the dog I wanted. Adopt a Pet - Rehome should instruct their adopters to change their minds about rehoming BEFORE they take the dog to the new owner, have them spend the night and then decide they need to get them back. This was very unfair. The adoptee should be advised that the owner has the right to come back for his pet. Both of these issues are critical.
Desired outcome: Fairness to the new adoptee.
Did you get a refund?

Disturbing meeting 4/26/21 @ 11:45 am. Once she arrived immediately she was taken aback by me being African American. Did she say this? No but I have known that look for over 50 years. Her first question was in my application she noticed I stated I would be walking Tuffy 5 miles a day and I responded that she was mistaken and in my app I stated I would be walking Tuffy 5 times a day. She insisted I said 5 miles, I asked her nicely to check her info, she did and agreed her info was incorrect. Next she asked about my previous pet ownership and I answered honestly that I owned a German shepherd for 22 years but died of cancer. I then figured out she was setting up road blocks to prevent my adoption. She asked me why I chose Tuffy and I said he was small and was a lap dog that loved affection. I jokingly said, I couldn't adopt a Mastiff. She quickly responded "oh no your home is way too small". She stated you know we check references right? My response was yes. It was clear she didn't want me to adopt Tuffy. She then asked me if I had loud noise in my home @bd my honest response was "no" Last question was where would the dog sleep and I said in his bed or mine because I don't like crates, she said neither did she. I asked what was the next step, she said it's not up to her. In my mind I was like "wow". My home is safe and clean and with this pandemic I need affection and companionship. This was a horrible meeting and left a knot in my stomach. All the bells and whistles went off in my head and I sent a text to her immediately and voiced how I felt unjustly profiled. She stated she has no say in adoption. In tears since visit
Only want donations and there are no dogs to adopt !
This website is a total waste !..They post pictures of dogs and never deliver. I must have put in 40 applications on line with no response from any of them. I think they offer no dogs and are looking for donations instead. I think this website should be shut down to avoid so many broken hearts. To me it's a SCAM that needs to be shut down ! Pictures of dogs, then next day says..adopted...then next day up for adoption..this is a total scam that needs to be shut down ! You can reach me at ...Paul Newcomb 33 Riverdale Ave. Old Bridge, Nj [protected]
Hey your actual address is posted where everyone can read it…. I feel like this is really unsafe and wanted to let you know in case you were privately telling company instead of on the actual review post for all to see.
Adopting a dog!
I tried on multiple occasions to adopt a dog, filling out adoption applications and get no answer in return. They don't answer phones or respond back from my applications and I see many of the dogs were adopted! I think their website is used only for donations and not for adopting! They keep sending me e mails with pictures of dogs... And get completly ignored when applying. If they don't intend to let people adopt from their website, then I think that website should be removed!

adoption of pet/unethical behavior
We went to an A Path 4 Paws adoption event on 8/24/19 after seeing the dog Marky on their website. They said he was 2 years old and a stray. We had to bring our dog with us for meet and greet with Marky. We arrive about 9 am. It was chaotic in there with many people around, dogs in crates barking and since it is a store regular customers trying to shop...

We adopted a dog from them. Name was Dax. He ended up attacking my mother in law. He was professionally evaluated after the attack by a trainer. He told the adoption people and us that he was not ready for adoption and needed to be boarded and trained and had a long time before he was ready to be in a home. Yet not a week later after giving the dog back he is now up for adoption again. These people are irresponsible and are going to get more people hurt. By not adhering to the advise they were given this dog may now end up hurting more people or a kid next time. Dont trust these people.
Website assessability
I love love love this company and what you do for all the pets that need help, but the ease of the website is a challenge! I don't understand why you need a separate log in for rehoming and why after posting another pet, it doesn't show on my dashboard. Ironically, while submitting this, I had to recreate yet another log in account because it said my email wasn't registered. I should have 3 dogs posted (randy 1010602, eugene 1010633, blondie, peaches 1011509, autumn 1011480, and sabrina 1011470. I found puppies in a ditch on the woods and they have come soooooo far! They are now healthy, happy, can sit, and I would love to update their profiles. I also found feral kittens shortly after taking the puppies home and have tamed and litter box trained them. They are all so precious and deserve loving parents! I am exhausted physically and financially but they are so worth it! Unfortunately, I have dogs and cats (along with other farm animals) and can not keep them. I absolutely hate complaining but please look into the logging in issue and ease of using your awesome services. Thank you so very much to each and every one of you for all you do, sincerely!
