Working with Allen Edwin has been very easy. Our project manager, Nolan, e-mailed us with weekly updates throughout the entire construction process, was very easy to get in touch with, and always promptly responded to messages. Nolan went above and beyond to answer all our questions and address any concerns we had. We always felt like we were his only customer, though we know he's a very busy guy! We're very happy with our new home!
The process was very organized since we saw the first model home. We got pre-approved, selected the land, the style of the house, all options and the house was delivered ahead of schedule. The house that we got is very nice. The only few items that we got issues were: - Some wood screws were not correct in the deck. - Some minor reworked points inside that are visible. - The ground outside the house is dirt, not soil. It has rocks, branches and garbage. Grass cannot grow there. We had to hire a landscaper to take 3" out and put new soil, so the grass can grow. We called them but they said that the grass can grow there, and that is the way they delivered all the homes in the area.

Bought Allen Edwin house and just found out that after 7 years the attic is covered in black mold including the insulation. After contacting Allen Edwin I was quickly pushed aside to the company that did my roof. They came out and said that the home was built with inadequate ventilation and said that Allen Edwin wanted to save a few $$ so instead of a ridge vent they went with pod vents. so basically my attic could not breath causing excessive moisture within causing mold/rot. Allen Edwin said it was built to their "spec sheet" and even though from day 1 it was faulty would not even assist with anything! I asked for a rep to visit my home and see first hand and was was told basically to go away... Now I have a 200k home 7 years old infested with mold and not even a concern or a worry on their end! DO NOT build with Allen Edwin. After that 1st year its all down hill. below standard building! I
We had Allen Edwin build our home 4 years ago in Byron Center. We have recently begun finishing our basement and have had several contractors in for various quotes etc. Much to our dismay, we learned that our HVAC system is very inefficient in that the ductwork used is flexible not hard piping which allows for kinks and loss of heat and/or air conditioning. When we first moved in, we noticed our air conditioning unit staying on for 5-6 hours at a time. We complained which did not get 'resolved' until we left a ComplaintsBoard.com complaint. We did receive a bigger condenser unit; however, the COIL was not replaced to a larger one which did NOTHING to fix the problem which we learned recently is incorrect. In addition, all of the I-joists in the basement had UNNECESSARY holes cut in each one of them due to incorrect measurements. This created creaks due to the weaknesses in our floors upstairs. The creaks were asked to be fixed at the one-year walk-thru but never were. As an aside to all of the above, we have had our siding replaced TWICE in an area near our patio and our front door due to it melting/warping, in addition to the large picture window replaced to no avail, as the siding has warped yet again in the exact same spots. Allen Edwin touts energy efficient homes, but this cannot be true due to the corners they cut in trying to save money. We are victims of false advertising and shoddy work. If this is not resolved, a lawsuit may have to be pursued to address the issues we have uncovered in our home.
Our build experience with Allen Edwin was less than spectacular. Our sales consultant, Lisa S, was amazing - at first; but part way through our project she became uncommunicative, unprofessional and downright rude. Lisa would refuse to communicate with us directly and instead relied on our realtor to pass information along to us; in the few rare instances when she did communicate directly with me she was extremely unprofessional- at closing for our new home I was asked to fill out a comment card regarding my satisfaction with the sales consultant, I was honest and expressed my displeasure and made a note asking for Allen Edwin management to contact me regarding my experience with Lisa but no one has ever bothered to follow up on that and this was almost 2 months ago. If you are considering building with Allen Edwin I would highly discourage you from working with Lisa S. On the other hand, we were very pleased with our project manager, Joe K; he worked hard to keep our build on schedule and was quick to answer any questions and take care of the various issues that arose during the process. Because of COVID, we were not able to walk our site as much as we would have liked to but Joe made it a point to keep us updated. Joe is friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The major issues with our build and what caused so much frustration for us was that our option selections did not get communicated or recorded properly so there were many errors as we went along - these would seem like minor things to most people as they could be easily fixed but we were on a pretty tight timeline (I was pregnant with twins and our home was slated to be complete only about 8 weeks prior to my due date) so any delay was going to be a major issue for us; examples of these errors include: wrong siding/shutters being ordered and partially installed, interior of the home was painted entirely the wrong color, bathroom hardware being installed when I specifically asked for it not to be, sod was not installed in the back yard (this held up our closing by almost 2 weeks as the bank was unable to complete their final appraisal without the sod since it is part of the loan for the home). We also had problems with the security of our build site during construction - the contractors and tradesman who came to work on site would often leave doors unlocked and windows open when they left for the day and we had neighborhood children trespassing on our site, entering our home through the egress windows and playing in the home (on one occasion I found a plethora of rice krispie treat wrappers strewn about the site and toy cars/trucks that were left behind) - these children also walked all over our garage floor when the concrete was wet leaving behind footprint impressions in the flooring. Joe did everything he could to remedy these security issues but it was exceptionally frustrating for us as the home owners as it got to a point where every day after work I would go by the build site to make sure everything was secure. In the end, we were able to move into our home a little over a month before the arrival of our twins and for the most part things are great - there are small things that bother me but are truly cosmetic issues; for instance, the floor vents are not centered under windows and are not cut parallel with the wall, light switches and thermostat are oddly placed, many rooms are not adequately lighted while others are overly lighted (kitchen/dining area only has two overhead lights causing it to be somewhat dim while the upstairs hallway is exceptionally bright). Overall, would I build with Allen Edwin again? Probably - you get what you pay for and this was an affordable way to get the home we wanted without having to fight the super competitive market and all in all it was really not any more expensive to build than it was to try to buy something. Just keep in mind that you get what you pay for and you will need to be prepared to advocate for yourself and your home at every possible opportunity.

We purchased a home in Holland MI and since moving in we had to have the siding company out 5 times. While in the attic we found large holes in the OSB. Walls are not level or straight throughout the home. The slider door on the lower level was put in upside down and then not sealed correctly so water was leaking in. Floor creaks throughout the home where subfloor was not installed properly. Wiring was also done improperly and safety was compromised. They put sockets on circuits that overloaded them causing pop breakers easily. I could go on and on. Thank the lord this will not be our forever home. We have fixed many of the issues but I would encourage anyone looking to buy one of these homes to run and run fast.

Here is my experience and email to the company
Here is my experience and email to the company.I received a call yesterday from a *** Rep named B. She instructed me that my home was not transferrable on the 11 month warranty inspection. I purchased the home in April from a disabled veteran that could not withstand the 2 story home. I was communicated from the seller that the warranty and inspection would occur prior to 12 months. She was not communicated that the warranty was not transferrable. I would ask to see the documents that state this is not transferrable.Second, the issue that is most difficult is the door keeps popping open likely due to structural shift. This occurs during times the dead bolt and door clasp are enabled. Meaning that the door is not secure. This happened while I was away is that I caught on my blink cameras my front door wide open. I actually had to have someone drive hours to re-secure the door. The door currently is being secured with 80lbs of deer feed to ensure the door doesn't pop while I am away on business.Simply the communication in my opinion was not professional, nor did it represent good faith by Allen Edwin homes yesterday. The Rep. that I talked to showed no interest other than telling me that its not transferrable. I would expect first of all congrats in your home. We are proud of our company and build. Anyway that we can help in ensuring that your home is to your satisfaction and or proud of our brand. In the call I received none of this or any communication that would suggest pride in my purchase or pride in your build. What this left me with is that we do not stand behind our products or build. As I explained to the Rep *** Edwin has the following responsibilities that are attached. This is not an expensive or difficult fix. Is it worth legal representation and file? I made mention to *** that this could happen yesterday. What this will do is create a communication to a neighborhood of the negative dealings w
We bought our brand new Allen Edwin home in April
We bought our brand new Allen Edwin home in April . We had quite a few issues after moving in. Water leaking into our daughters room and destroying the trim...result: part of the roof wasn't sealed. Wiring issue in the kitchen every time we plugged something into an outlet that kept tripping the breaker...result: wires in one of the outlets was not connected. All of those issues were taken care of because we were under 2 years with our warranty. Now here we are Oct-Dec2021 a little over two years with a major electrical issue that Allen Edwin will not help with because it's a little past the 2 years mark. However, an electrical issue isn't a small issue that shouldn't be covered! We went to flip on our light switch in the hall by the front stairs and it blew the breaker...Over and over and over knocking out the lights in our front room and hall lights. We have 3 light switches that turn on 2 lights and 1/2 won't work at all. Call Allen Edwin..can't help you! Sorry past your 2 years but we can call an electrician! It's a brand new home and you did crappy work that you don't stand by! We lived in an older home (70 year old home) prior to our new home and had zero electrical issues in the 13 years we lived there. Move into a brand new home and major electrical issues and NO help...they don't stand by their work! Throw in a letter from the HOA in our neighborhood because the bathroom vents never turn off and have left a horrible black mess on our siding. Again, not their problem! The whole idea of a bathroom vent that NEVER shuts off is ridiculous! All of the other Allen Edwin homes in our neighborhood have black junk all over their siding from the same issue and have been ticketed by the HOA to have it removed immediately because it is a huge eye sore with black crap down the side of your home! I would not recommend an Allen Edwin home to anyone! My sister in law built a home by***r-talk about a huge difference in quality of work. Guess we should have saved longer and went with a better builder. You would think a brand new $245,900 home in 2019 would have been made of great quality!
I have to say working with Allen Edwin homes seemed great
I have to say working with Allen Edwin homes seemed great... at first. Our direct contact was Tom V. Tom was very charismatic, sincere and energetic as he toured our home with us and in meetings about purchasing our home. We were at the final stage of the process, the appraisal, and things became drastically different. Prior to the appraisal Tom told my wife and I in the instance of a short appraisal Allen Edwin would split the difference if the shorted amount. His exact words were, if you receive an appraisal 10k less than the home is on the market for Allen Edwin would come down 5k and would have to bring 5k to close. Understandable, my wife and I were fine with that. Two weeks later we received you guessed it an appraisal for 10k less than the sale price. My wife and I were bummed but we thought hey we get a brand new home so let's move forward with the thought Allen Edwin would meet us half way as stated by Tom. When it came time for Tom to come down 5k he said that he was no longer willing to adjust the price because the market changed 6 months ago. Now the energetic, sincere and charismatic Tom was gone. I could not believe it. I asked Tom why would he give us his word and then take it back? He gave us the scenario of what Allen Edwin would do and how. Needless to say we passed on the home. My last statement to Tom was I'm extremely disappointed that this is how Allen Edwin goes to business. Because you can squeeze people to get more money out of the builds knowing that these homes are not valued as such. I said Tom, I want to get this straight your willing to go back on your word because you know the market will allow? You believe you don't have to come down because you are the only developer making new homes in the 240-290 price range and people will over pay right now so your willing to let this deal go for 5k? His answer was a bold yes! That's the issue fellow home buyers. They have a monopoly on the market so they are operating this way. This needs to change. Look at the reviews before getting into bed with Allen Edwin. These homes are built quick and lack the quality necessary to sustain or dare I say increase in value even in times such as this. I admit the homes are attractive and new always seems better. I hope another company will make Allen Edwin do better. They outsource so May projects on these homes, all the while telling you about the warranty's offered and how they will take care of you. Again read the reviews, because they outsource so much they direct you to the company they used to put in your roof or HVAC system. Allen Edwin homes is knowingly putting people in upside down homes. This should not be how things are done. I hope for you and your families it will.

Allen Edwin Homes Complaints 2
Quality of work and refusal to fix
I purchased a house from Allen Edwin Homes in February 2024 for $429000. Allen Edwin Homes thinks that putting a house together in 3 months during the Winter is a good idea. My house has a beam that is visible through the ceiling and looks horrible. Allen Edwin Homes has the audacity to say that’s normal, that’s how all of their houses look like, and there...

Mike K swindled me and my husband out of $600 at the very last minute in a buy/sale lot purchase and HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DOING. I would not recommend this company to anyone. My bad experience with this company just transpired a week ago on March 13 at approximately 1300. EAH was purchasing our vacant lot in a FOR SALE BY OWNER deal. Mike K from Allen Edwin Homes' Land Department called my transaction coordinator one measly hour before we were set to go to the closing table. This slime ball wanted to know why his 3% commission wasn't showing on the closing statement. My coordinator told him because a) it was a For Sale By Owner deal and because b) commission doesn't come into play on those deals unless it's c) negotiated up front and because d) he never asked or negotiated that up front. In that moment, one hour before closing the deal, he confirmed he had made a mistake by not negotiating that up front. But then this slime ball decided to hold me and my transaction coordinator hostage by threatening us 1-hour before closing and stating that he was going to pull the wire transfer to the title company if he didn't get his 3% commission. And he DID just that. He pulled back the wire transfer until we gave him exactly what he was asking for. This guy's behavior and his subsequent transaction was completely fraudulent and deceptive and unacceptable. All for $600. He literally swindled me and my husband out of $600 at the very last minute because HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DOING. And he did it at the very last minute. And he absolutely did it that way because once again, he KNEW he would get away with it last minute because what seller doesn't want to close their transaction? He admitted he made a mistake by not negotiating his commission up front and yet he STILL decided to take advantage of the situation, and to take advantage of me and my husband and continued to swindle us out of $600. The nerve of this guy is appalling. What a crappy way of doing business. This company is so extremely shady. This guy is a crook and is shady. I would advise anyone who deals with this company to NOT deal with this company. From the moment we started our communications with this guy, he wrote up a purchase agreement for double what we were asking for it (his mistake . . he's lucky he caught it), he was hard to get ahold of over the phone, the people in their office were hard to get ahold of, and the people in their office would make excuses to the Title Company as to why they weren't responding to emails and would say "Oh, it must have went into my spam folder". The title company, myself, and my transaction coordinator all believe this guy and this company are a crappy and shady business. Avoid them at all costs. Period. This bad review of them is just ONE OF MANY bad reviews you will find online about EAH.
