Inaccurate and annoying
I downloaded the Allstate app for the discounts for good driving. I’m getting a decent discount but it’s such an annoying app. It will peg you and reduce your discount each time you go over 80 mph, you brake too hard, or now when you are on your phone while driving. The problem with this is that it will peg you for these things regardless of what the speed limit is and the brake and phone checks are very buggy. I get pegged for braking too hard sometimes and there was no hard braking whatsoever. Maybe my phone accelerometer is too sensitive... it also counts you as driving every time you are in a moving vehicle unless you remember to get into the app and tell it you’re not driving. Then every time you stop and start moving again you’ll have to tell it AGAIN. It also has been tattling on me for using my phone after I’ve parked the car at work before I start walking in... I don’t know how looking at your phone in park in a parking lot could possibly count as using the phone while driving...
I’m not sure what the fix here is, but perhaps the number of times, the speed limit, and the distance something happens for should be more important. If I’m doing 80 in a 40, there’s a problem but if I’m going 80 in a 75, then that’s not nearly as bad...
The worst part in my opinion is that I have to tell it when I’m not driving or delete the trips later.
Im so tired of monitoring this app just to make sure it’s doing its job. I’m not sure it’s even worth the discount I’m getting. In fact I’m pretty sure it’s not worth it...
From Online to Live
To me perhaps most practical feature of an online site: how quickly and efficiently, apart from site navigational ease, can staff be contacted and engaged.
See for yourself, go to Allstate Insurance website and find how easily accessible information on insurance for Vehicles Homes (owner or renter), as well as life and health. Moreover site offers lots of practical advice on care for material possessions for which many if us work so hard to have and keep. One might think insurance website will be as interesting as reading a telephone book; not so on Allstate’s. Chances offered all the time with no purchase necessary to win ‘big ticket’ prizes including vacations and often valued above $2500.
So whether questions on my premiums, or ones on additional insurance, or asking simply for confirmation on my entry into latest contest, my questions answered almost immediately either by email or by picking up the phone. At worst, I’ve waited one business day for reply by email. And at least in the case of Allstate Mossiman Agency in NE Albuquerque, I’m never left at the mercy of automated service, either waiting on hold or pressing every button on the phone. Just received notice of near $30 earned for safe driving... these are actual dollars that I may have credited to premium payment or bank check mailed to me. Four months ago, I opted for bank check $65 for safe driving. Hey, couple bags of groceries, or summer Vet check-up for my chihuahua, Shēwawa.
Allstate Insurance Website well worth few minutes to decide for yourself.
Retarded app
I was forced to use this app recently to complete my claim. I can tell you that this app is ridiculous in the way it was designed and built.
1. Allstate wanted me to use this app to upload photos of damage to process a claim. I got pictures of damage already on my phone, but the app wouldn’t let me use those. It would rather force me to retake all the photos via the app, and the upload.
2. So I did just that, and now ready to upload some 10 photos via the app.
3. Tried many times, but it freezes always at some point saying something like “uploading photo 8 of 10” and stays there for ever. During this time, I can’t use my phone for anything. Tried over both wi-fi and cellular, and the result is the same.
4. When I restart, instead of uploading the one or two remaining photos, it starts all over again and get stuck somewhere again trying to do it all again. What a foolish design!
5. So I decided to try it later assuming that the stupid app would keep my photos. My bad! I returned later…Alas! all those photos are gone, and it wants me to retake all those again! This is really stupid.
6. Contacting customer service is another nightmare, they wouldn’t want to accept these photos via email, but only via the app. So I requested somebody to come in complete the assessment, but according to them that could be many weeks out. I’m still stuck for over 3 weeks, just because of this incompetent app! You know what, I’m out of Allstate right after settling this claim. I was stuck with them for over 5 years, now got a good reason to look elsewhere!
Dear Developers, please fix: Phone Activity Tracking
This is a pretty great app that is worthy of five stars except for how drivewise tracks your phone activity. I don't mind that it tracks it. I just have a problem with the way it tracks it.
I live in a state where touching your cell phone while driving is illegal. It's a great law, so I had stereos installed with hands free in both of my vehicles, so I don't touch my cell phone while driving. They other day, though, I was going somewhere for the first time and couldn't find the destination, so I pulled into a parking lot, put my car in park and plugged my phone into stereo so I could use the GPS. On that trip, I got dinged for using my phone because the app saw that I was using it in the middle of a trip. It didn't take into account that I was stopped at the time. I suppose I could have been doing something at a stoplight with my phone, which is illegal, but it would be great if I didn't get dinged for safe and legal activities. I know I can tell the app to disregard the trip because the data is incorrect, but I work from home and don't drive all that much, so I need to record the trips that I can.
Another scenario is when my wife is in the car reading my texts to me. I can't tell the app that it wasn't me using the phone. Another one that I get hit on is when I get to a location and use my phone when I get there. It will ding me even though I'm using the phone when I'm not driving.
TL;DR The phone activity hits me when I'm not doing anything unsafe or illegal. I like that it's in the app, but I think there need to be a few more if/then statements to increase its accuracy.
Drivewise Issue
I should have realized my phone doesn’t know what car I am in or who’s driving.
I added Drivewise because the rare times I drive my car anywhere, I drive perfectly, & I wanted that fact on record! Not thinking how normally whenever I leave this house this past year, it’s been in my daughter’s car & my daughter is driving, but my PHONE thinks it’s me braking like that in my Toyota. No. It’s her in her Lexus which is insured by a totally different company & I’m simply the innocent victim getting blamed by Allstate & Drivewise, brilliant, no it is not for me.
Instead of the well deserved & much needed discount, they’ve RAISED my already insanely high rate considering I basically drive from one side of the street to the other to placate the street washing truck & driver & there is NO sharp braking involved.
I’m truly sick of this run around.
Also, Alkstate, it may be all the Datelines I watch, but it seems VERY suspicious to me that my agent has been “away” or “on leave” every single time I have attempted to reach him, which has happened too many times to be a coincidence over all these years! I got my eyes in you. What did you do with him & then just have me talk to various & unhelpful ladies who are gleeful when they tell me they just can’t do anything to help me find a better rate or discount!
I mean, all I did was ask s simple question, “What is Miiewise & will it work for my new, lessened driving time?” & got no response at all. I’ve been a GREAT customer. It’s seriously shameful to run off a paying, up til now non-complaining & no claims made customer. Shame on you, girl. I’m
Not user friendly and has a LOT of issues
Firstly, this app is not designed to be user friendly in the slightest. It is difficult to navigate and is very slow even with WiFi/full bars of data, sometimes it even crashes. An app redesign where everything is easy to navigate to would be beneficial as well as an improvement for performance to help mitigate the crashes and slowness.
Secondly, I forget to turn the app off when I’m a passenger in someone else’s vehicle. I will go into the app and mark these trips as passenger trips. After exiting the app and going back into it, these trips will no longer be marked as passenger trips. When I’m a passenger, the driver I’m with sometimes will go a bit faster than 80mph. The issue with this is when these are passenger trips I have marked as passenger trips but they switch back to looking like my trips, it will affect my policy and I’m a passenger a lot. This is yet another thing that needs to get fixed with this app. Why even have an option to make a trip a passenger trip when it will just switch back to looking like your trip?
Thirdly, I’m on a policy with my family and sometimes their trips appear as my trips in the app. When I remove the trips and exit the app, they appear again. Yup, this is ANOTHER issue with the app that needs fixing! What’s even the point in removing trips if they’re just going to appear in the app again?
Overall, this is a horribly designed app that needs a major rework in regards to design, performance, giving people the ability to properly mark trips as passenger trips/remove trips without them reappearing, and preventing other people’s trips from showing up on the app. Please Allstate, improve this app for your customers!
Useful but inconsistent
I’ve been using this app for a good 2-3 years now including the DriveWise feature. It’s really useful & overall I do like it but it’s one of my most inconsistent apps. It fails to launch or simply crashes & closes mid-use very shortly after it launches successful quite a lot...like several times a week I have this problem, especially while reviewing my DriveWise trips. I’d rate this app 4 stars if that was the only quirk.
But a couple weeks ago the DriveWise feature on the app’s home screen just mysteriously disappeared. I closed the app & reopened it multiple times but the feature never showed up. I couldn’t figure out a way to get into that feature anywhere else within the app, including selecting the DriveWise option from the dropdown list where you can access all the other features. It just takes you to a screen that tells you how long you’ve been enrolled into DriveWise. I checked later that night as well as the following day but it was still missing. It miraculously reappeared on the third day, kinda like Jesus.
But it’s been disappearing for a day or so at a time & suddenly reappearing for no apparent reasons. Including tonight..it was there yesterday but now it’s gone today. I can only review my very last trip & that’s only because your last trip is always shown on the app’s main screen.
DriveWise started disappearing/reappearing well before I downloaded my latest iOS update (which I just did like 3 days ago), so that definitely wasn’t the cause. And it says my Allstate app hasn’t had a new update installed recently either. I’m really not sure what’s going on but it’s just yet another frustrating thing about the app overall, which is why I gave 3 star rating.
I’ll give 5 stars if the crash issues are fixed & DriveWise quits pulling disappearing acts on me :)
Best insurance!
I have used Allstate for about roughly about a year! It’s expensive no doubt! I pay $290 monthly. However, about six months ago I went on a trip to California for family reunion, then bam! I was driving on the highway 710 north coming from Long Beach. I am driving behind a truck that had various gardening items, most likely landscapers. As a wheel barrel fell off and I had seriously at most 1 second to try and avoid the hit, but, we all know that’s impossible. Luckily there was no damage to the car, or at least I thought because no damage was visible. But I pulled over to inspect my car and saw the wheel barrel on the side crunched up. Then I thought ok my car is fine. As I’m driving home my car is having problems so I get home hearing rattling noises. In the morning when I woke up I found a puddle of what looked like water. It was transmission fluid. Eventually, had to get my car towed and taken in to the shop. Pep-Boys. They said half of my transmission was missing and that the damage was serious. I’ll need a new transmission and that it’ll be very costly. Luckily, thank God I had full cover as is required by my car dealer. And eventually called and got some help from Allstate very quick. The problems were not with Allstate but rather pep boys in which I am very disappointed in but that’s a different story. On behalf of Allstate they had an inspector go see my car and evaluate the cost to fix my car and signed a check quick. Of course I had to use the insurance as it covered road hazard items. This was done on a period of 24-48 hours at most. Thank you Allstate! You guys seriously took care of me! - warning my insurance did go up as a co-effect for having a claim but my representative did some work on his end to keep it at the same price! Thank you Representative Jason Davis from Mesa, AZ! You are amazing!
Very Very Upset Drivewise App Stops Recording Trips on It’s Own
After years of using apps of all kind on my smart phones This is the very first review I’ve ever written because of how angry and upset I am with the repeated “dirty tactics” of this App magically logging out on its own and not recording my trips without my knowledge until I get an email from my insurance agent an absurd 28 days later saying that my trips have not been recorded for 28 days of driving. I then have to start up the app and completely re-log in with all my credentials because my touch sign in doesn’t work again for some reason. I have had to go through and reading-approve the apps use of access to my phone each time this happens.
Seriously, could you notify me immediately if it’s not working like your FAQ says you would? 28 days later is absurd and shows blatant purposeful effort to not notify me immediately.
This is the third time this has happened over 2 years since the Drivewise safe driving incentives started. Long stretches of then finding out the app stopped working in the background. Once again you have shorted me out of cash back for being a stellar safe driver because of whatever you are doing to purposely cause the turning off of trip recording.
It is not my phone or anything on my end that I have done. The Allstate Drivewise app on my phone must be still working because it’s been updating regularly (the last one being 2 days ago) but not recording my trips. I have had “offload unused apps” turned off since the beginning so that’s not the issue also. Could this be happening when you push certain automatically downloaded updates that causes it to do this without my knowledge?
I just got the email today of it not recording trips for the last 28 days.
Seriously, telling me 28 days later. I’m so upset. The FAQ says I don’t need to do a thing and that the App still records trips when it’s off. What the heck.
Honesty&App Broken
The app review gives 5 solid stars as the overall average of the ratings. That means most all reviews should be 5 stars, in order to achieve a five star average.
Sorting by “most recent first”, brings a nearly solid parade of poor ratings (I wonder what “Common Core Math” formula they used to GET the above-mentioned “5 star average”).
The only “good” (4 or 5 star) reviews, few as there are, come from confused reviewers, who are rating their experience with the COMPANY, rather than what they SHOULD be rating...which is THIS APP.
The app dev’s descriptions use words such “quick”...hmm. Since the updates, the common theme of most all reviews (aside from the “confused” ones mentioned above), are direct contradictions to said dev’s descriptions. Replete with descriptors, such as “slow”. “Hard to log in”. “CANNOT log in”.
So customers had better instruct Allstate to routinely mail them their insurance cards - AS ALLSTATE SHOULD DO. You don’t want to be spending lots of time trying to log on, while cars whiz by as you sit on a roadside, your car interior being illuminated by the strobing blue and red lights of the car behind you, belonging to that uniformed officer who is impatiently waiting outside your driver’s door window. Who might become annoyed and spend that time writing tickets, instead of letting you off with a verbal warning (now this might be an app to help RAISE your premiums, if THAT happens).
NOR do you want to count on sketchy app performance to actually work, as advertised, if you need roadside assistance.
I AM A CUSTOMER. I RATE ALLSTATE (the company) HIGHLY, AS A CUSTOMER.
HOWEVER, this app is a disservice to their company name. I will delete it.
NO app is better than one that doesn’t work, as intended and as the user trusts to “be there for them, when it is needed”.
(BY THE WAY. Allowing ANY app, or company to digitally track your driving, is a very bad idea...!).
Photos for the claims process is worthless!
to the development team and business staff that runs this app, OMG, get your sh*** together on this one.
guys - this app is terrible. really. from a customer service user experience, it is awful.
first off the quick photos claims experience is the absolute worst - the app doesn't even do what it's supposed to do. you cannot even upload the pictures within the app without having a wi-fi connection. it keeps says, "could not upload your pictures" and then it forces you to start the entire process over again.
second, there is no way to upload the photos from the phone at all. it all must be real time within the application. why not allow for the ability to take the photos and then upload them in order? will reduce some of the issues you are having with users staying connected or having enough bandwidth to upload the photos.
third - why not give the users the ability to upload the photos from their PC within the allstate portal? you force all users to use a mobile app that works 1/3 of the time at best
fourth - what app has a better experience if you're NOT logged into it. that's what the tech support told me when i couldn't upload my photos. they told me, I had to log off of the app in order for it to work properly to upload photos. really? log off of the app for it to work. yeah...real intuitive.
finally, I had to call a phone tree of customer service, yelling and screaming until someone knew an alternative. then I had to email individual photos to an email address and babysit a claim agent to ensure that it was done and uploaded properly..
guys really - for someone who just was in an accident, and then forcing them to go through this experience it is very traumatic and unsettling and added stress to an already stressful situation.
please get this resolved and work within your business teams to understand the process and have the technology support the business or at the very least educate your claims adjusters to help the customer submit when this is down and not working. they had no clue. not their fault and they get the brunt of the frustration
What happened to app?!?!
I’ve used this app for years without any problems...until this so called “update” recently. I can’t even login! Touch ID no longer works. I’m saying it’s not even available! All I can do now is pull up my digital card. Not helpful.
I used to be able to easily login, pay bills, check all of my info, a rely on this app almost as well as I rely on my agent.
I’ve deleted & reloaded it. Didn’t help. I’ve tried changing my password on the website. Wouldn’t let me. It gives 3 options to receive new password link. ALL 3 say unavailable at this time. I’m to check back at a later date. What? Okay. When’s a good time for YOU, then? What date do you have in mind?
The older version looked professional, was user friendly, and very resourceful.
New version is so bad, it looks fraudulent! The sight of it threw me so hard, I went back to the App Store to make sure I still had the correct app.
I actually thought I had been HACKED! Who developed this embarrassing atrocity?
I just checked the App Store again. Hoping there has been an update to the update. Yes! “Performance fixes”. I should hope so!
STILL doesn’t work. PERFORMANCE is fixed at zero. Well I guess I’m going to have to check back at ANOTHER later date.
I’ve had my agent since...well...BEFORE I had a smart phone. Let’s just say for YEARS. Wouldn’t trade ‘em for the world. And I enjoy chatting with him. But he & his team shouldn’t have to take payments over the phone with the ease of technology today. But I’ll be calling them, again, this month to do so. Because, at this point, I don’t trust Allstate’s app OR website. You can keep that automated phone system, too. And it looks like most of the recent reviews would agree.
Hey Allstate! Pay attention.
GIVE US BACK THE PREVIOUS VERSION! Obviously your customers are not happy with this change. This version is NOT fixable. This is NOT an opinion.
The screen shots in the App Store are NOT what you see when you pull it up. Reminds me of games that advertise game play that is not even part of the actual game.
Are you convinced yet? Do we need to continue repeating any of this?
Have any of you even LOOKED at that thing?
Roadside (No)Assistance
I had a flat tire on the PA turnpike at 10pm in July. I called roadside assistance and it took 40! minutes of explaining before the customer service associate was able to understand my location. I was told that they would need to tow the vehicle off the highway to put the spare on. I repeated that it was flat on the passenger side and I was parked on the shoulder and there wasn’t a need for towing. I was told that they would be dispatching someone and I would receive a call back and a message on arrival time etc...since I had the app. Fast forward 2 very LONG hours and there I still sat. It’s now 12am. I’m sitting alone on the PA turnpike just outside of Washington PA, nothing but highway in site. I’m now told that there is no one coming. Im told that none of their providers are answering the phone when she (customer service) calls. I was told that there was nothing they could do. I’m thinking that it’s NOT the middle of the night, there’s no snow storm and I’m not in remote Alaska but not one single tow truck or even a handyman that Allstate-a huge insurance company that claims that “You’re in good hands” has access to will even bother to answer the phone? I’m not buying it. I ask her if I find someone will they reimburse me? All of a sudden she tells me that she was able to get ahold of someone but they aren’t “in network” so I will have to pay $269 and then submit my claim to which they MAY reimburse me UP TO $100. To put a spare tire on?!? Then I’m thinking maybe she’s giving me the cost in pesos but NO, I was to pay $269USD for whoever Allstate was sending to take one tire off and put the spare on. I politely declined and told her I would do it myself before that happened.
I googled “towing service near me” and the first place that popped up answered on the first ring. They charged $60 and were there in under 10 minutes. Since it was now almost 2am the gentleman led me to the nearest motel and saw to it that they had a room available before leaving. I’m still waiting to be reimbursed! I’d never recommend this company for roadside assistance! What a joke! I may be a woman but I definitely am not stupid! Save yourself the hassle not to mention the money and get AAA.
~~Don't use Roadside Assistance ~~
Just hung up with Allstate, the girl on the phone actually told me verbally not to trust the app at all and to just call the number from now on.
Wish I could rate it as zero stars.
Car wouldn't start after picking up coffee. Opened up the Allstate app and used roadside assistance. Using the app I submitted a request for assistance. Was quoted $89 for a tow. I entered my credit card info and submit. Screen said it could take a few minutes and to not move from the screen.
About 7-9 min later my phone rang from a Florida number. I didn't recognize it and didn't want to cause problems with the app so let the call go to voicemail. The number call again right away so I answered. It was Allstate roadside assistance.
He called to tell me the distance was greater than allotted and the fee would be $127. I agreed. He verified the pickup and drop off address. The app had the wrong pickup address so we updated with the correct address. All the other information was correct including billing and description of where the car was parked.
He said the tow truck would be there within 100 minutes. Tow company called me 1 hour later and said they would be there in 20 minutes. They picked up the vehicle and delivered it to the garage.
4 days later I get billed $255 on top of the $127 I was already charged. They said it was because the vehicle wasn't at the address the app picked for me (even though I provided the correct address over the phone and the car was in fact picked up and delivered).
Roadside assistance is trying to tell me it's my fault for using the wrong address and blaming me telling me I need to pay the additional $255 because the car wasn't there when the provider showed up to pickup the car.
On a side note, my billing has been screwed up since I switch to Allstate, the whole experience has been a complete mess.
I definitely don't feel like I'm in good hands right now. 2 months with Allstate. They quoted me $80 a month and I signed up. $260 up front, billed me the next month $190 due to an error with their forms. Paid $143, Allstate agent says I own Allstate $53 for the next month, Allstate says $141. And now they bill me a total of $382 for a 14 mile tow. That's $800 I've given Allstate in 2 months.
Seriously?
To much needed personal info
I just removed myself from the drivewise app by deleting it, the reason for this action is that you have to allow the app/program to have access to all your social media and your location which in my opinion is a intrusion into your privacy which we all are allowing to happen everyday, when we send (facebook & instagram) messages or posts. We all are allowing the world to know all kinds of personal information about ourselves and our families by being sucked into this global phenomenon called social media. We wonder why we are being HACKED and SPYED upon these days and its because we put everything out there in the Great Oblivion of the internet. Anyway thats why I'm going to get rid of my social media accounts along with the Drive Wise app, its just to invasive for my liking. I've been an allstate customer since the mid 1980's with auto, home, life insurance and they are all great but the communication between Allstate is becoming to impersonal for me, you have to email or respond through the app with them and all other companies we use today. You use an app or the internet to communicate with them and I do not like talking to a computer or a chat room. Thats why i'm making this comment because I feel that we've lost some of the ability to communicate with the businesses that we as consumers buy products from and it isolates those companies from helping when there's an issue that needs to be fixed. You can't always talk to a person you have to do a chat for what seems like hours to no avail to resolve a problem. cI know that the younger generations don't have a problem with it because they have grown up with it but they should be, it is quick and easy but it's also very intrusive and you give a bit more of yourself every time you post any information about your life in any of these so called apps/program's/social/ devices or what ever they are. Why do they need access to all that info? They tell you that if you drive safe you'll get a discount! wow i've been driving for many years and haven't had an accident that I caused because I pay attention and I'm very safe even though i'm aggressive sometimes and make hard breaks when someone else does something stupid I drive in control and I know whats going on around me. I sound crazy, Sorry about the rant. Allstate customer
None too impressed-Too many flaws
Not a fan of this app.
1) It uses tons of battery to keep it constantly running. During the pandemic, I’m maybe driving like once a week. So why do I have to keep it on in the meantime? It even said somewhere that this app will take its toll on your battery. My battery already sucked before downloading. Now it needs to be on life support almost continuously. You’re in the insurance industry. I’m sure you guys have enough money to figure out a way to to be able to either A) only have it be a drain on the battery when you’re driving around, or B) Find a way to make the app work better where it can still run 24/7, but not be a drain on my battery.
2) I absolutely loathe the fact that you insist on having so much access to my personal information. Where I’m at 24/7, behavioral patterns, etc. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and I’m still contemplating whether or not I should delete it for that reason and screw saving a few bucks.
3) What if I’m not the one driving? I don’t have a way of selecting “that’s not me” so it’s all recorded as me as long as my phone is in a car with me. It doesn’t even have to be my car, it could be a friend’s, and I’m just along for the ride, but it would still count as me.
4) My work schedule. I get off at 2:30 A.M., and I’m way more awake and aware than I am at 7 A.M. So I get dinged for having a work schedule that works better for me? I’m way more awake at night than I am during the day. And when I come home, there’s NO ONE on the rods. LITERALLY. So how, I wonder, is that more dangerous than rush hour traffic? I’ve gotten into several major accidents during rush hour because people get so bored they start playing on their phones and quit paying attention and wind up running into the back of me! It’s no wonder my rates skyrocketed while I was on dayshift a few years ago! The worst resulted in my next to new car getting totaled. Now that I’m working swing shift, and I’m driving during off hours, there’s hardly any traffic at all! How is that less safe?!? Your logic isn’t making sense. If it’s because “night is when people sleep” and you’re worried about drowsy driving, then you ought to allow your clients with jobs like mine to send in a verified document showing work hours. That way I get credit for my good behavior! My off hours would be 3 A.M. - 12 P.M., because that’s when I sleep!
I’m back writing more here-after reading about the last two years worth of reviews, I say: “Screw the app! It’s not worth giving up my privacy or more of my battery health! I’m hitting the delete button.
Poorly Planned & Designed: Terrible UX
I would like to start with something positive. OK, that’s done.
Now the negatives:
The app frequently logs-out the users and won’t recognize login and passwords. I thought maybe it was just me, but it’s many other users who have written it into their reviews. The company’s response: “You must not be using the most recent operating system” or “try reloading the app.” Terrible customer service responses. (Many of us have noted we’d deleted the app/cache and have the most recent OS installed.
Another issue is incredibly poorly conceived decision to move DriveWise to customers phones, rather than another device in the car. First, for those who don’t use smart phones, you’re out of luck and penalized for not wanting or being able to update to an incredibly expensive phone. (Another example of penalizing the poor.) Second, I wouldn’t trust ANY company that says they’re not going to track other data on my phone to somehow utilize that data to create my insurance rates. If you have a health app on your phone, they could have access to that data. They could conceivable track every thing a person does on their phone and deem that person a higher risk and adjust their DriveWise rates.
Another problem is that the Drivewise component frequently doesn’t work. When it does, it logs every mile, every time you’re in a moving vehicle, unless you go through multiple steps to turn it off. I take the bus to work, so every time a bus stops suddenly, drives over the speed limit…essentially, I’m penalized and my miles make it look as if I’m driving more during peak hours. That then turns into higher rates on my insurance.
Another problem: if my spouse has the app, it’s logging her miles as a passenger and we are doubling our millage or any other issue (such a sudden stop to not hit a child who ran into busy the street because her parents were neglectful). That didn’t happen, but what if it did?
Finally, this app is a data hog. Since you have to enable the feature to track every move you make in order for DriveWise to work (which is an invasion of privacy), the app drains your battery and drains your data plan VERY fast, unless you’re using unlimited data.
This app is so ineptly conceived and designed (and unstable) that we’re actively looking for another insurance company, but I suspect they are all going to be doing the same for they “rewards” problem. So essentially, if you don’t want the Big Brother insurance company watching every move you make outside of your automobile or draining your data and battery, you just have to deactivate it and not get the discount.
Needs Fixing
I can't believe the developers of this app tested it before releasing it. I got so frustrated I finally went to my Allstate agent for help. It took three of us an hour and a half to put through a basic claim... that's four and a half hours of work! There are many bugs that need fixing, specifically:
1. On the password reset, I was given a choice of 'Individual' or 'Business.'
(it would have seemed more accurate for the choice to be 'Personal' rather than 'Individual,' as there are four of us on the policy, but that's just nitpicking.) When I clicked on the 'Individual' box, it turned blue and did nothing. Only by accident (after 20 minutes) did one of my agents accidentally brush the box a second time, and the section opened up. Apparently one is supposed to 'double click' on the app... what what? Maybe on the website a double click is appropriate, but on an app it's unheard of!
2. Clients need to be told the photo quick claim can only be done via the app. My phone was getting very full, and I didn't want the Allstate app, so I took photos of the damage, uploaded them to my computer, and started a claim. I never found the photo quick claim on the website, so I installed the app and tried to finish the claim via the now apparent photo quick claim. I had no success with that, and neither did my agents. They ended up calling the 800 number to have an agent connect it manually. There should be a notice at the beginning of the website claim section regarding the photo quick claim, that it is only available via the app.
3. Our damage was a simple one, a parking lot hit and run when we were not there, with no note from the perpetrator. There should be a question for this type of claim at the very beginning of the process. There wasn't, and I had to answer endless irrelevant questions regarding injured parties, medical treatment, etc. There wasn't even an NA option, making it difficult to figure out how to answer them properly. It's obvious this app was written with the input of professional agents, rather than that of a regular client.
4. My last comment is not about the app, but I just need to vent
I had arranged to meet personally with my agent on the following Monday for assistance with putting the claim through. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, my husband and I each were called every day, urging us to complete our claim, even though I had already explained that we would do so on Monday with our agent. That's SIX phone calls... SIX! They weren't nice either. They had aggressive attitudes and acted like they had been trained by debt collectors. I finally called early Monday to complain, and finally did I get a 'read me first' notice put on our file (thanks, Dorothy, you're an angel!)
This process was so messed up, I'm taking the time to write this all out, in hopes someone from Allstate reads it and makes some much needed changes. Worst experience with a claim ever... and I'm on vacation!
Worst company ever !
All state
On September 3rd our car was in a car accident, All state wanted us to use their own body shop (certified collision) they brain washed us (our mistake) to use their body shop because they said it was going to have life time warranty and be faster, so after they gave us an estimate and promised our car would be ready in 4 weeks ...4 weeks later they told us that it wasn’t ready yet, by that time our car rental period was over so we had to find another car to drive while my car was getting fixed, then after another week they kept saying it wasn’t ready, then we spoke to the shop manager of the body shop and he said the guy that was working on the car “drop the ball”on our vehicle and they needed to have someone else start to work on it and finish it, and the shop manager stated he needed another 4 weeks to finish the project because it was just too big! So weeks passed and almost 3 months later, also AllState giving us excuses and not answering our questions (Tonna Madsen our insurance agent being rude and making unnecessary comments and non professional comments like how that happened to her when she was young and she got over it etc etc instead of helping us out, she also stated that she would never take her car to that shop, so how did she expect us to be safe and happy with this car?) then finally they gave me my car back on November 15, almost 3 months after! Can’t believe how nice they are while collecting the monthly payment every month but once you get into an accident where it wasn’t even your fault they don’t help you at all and don’t care about you as a costumer.
The original estimate to repair was $12,000 so All state didn’t want to pay me full price for my car because they said that still was repairable because it had no frame Damage and because it wasn’t more than 80% of the value of my car which for my car i paid around $16,000 just around 2 months before the accident.
So when I received my car back, the body shop manager showed me and gave me copies of how much they spent to repair my car and the total is $17,100, that’s more of what I paid for my car!.
But this is not it, after I picked up my car I went to carmax to get an appraisal to see how much is worth now if I want to trade it in because my family and I don’t feel safe In the car anymore, and at Carmax our appraisal offer is for only $10,000 ! They explained in a very detail manner that our car has obvious frame damage on multiple sections of the car frame and they don’t even buy those cars with frame damage to resell, they could buy my car for $10,000 and they would have to send it to an auction right away, they were so amazed to know how an auto insurance lied to us about the car not having frame damage and being repairable for more money of what the car cost, CarMax people told us is not safe at all to be driving the car with my 1 year old baby in it.
Please be aware of ALL STATE and the way they handle their business, Also we got a few calls from Our agent manager named Brandon Pham and he was being rude saying that they couldn’t do anything and that we had to keep the car and offering a $250 check after everything that they put us through like that was going to make me feel safer in this car.
I hope nobody else goes thru this, better spend more money for a better insurance like AAA than deal with this liars and their sketchy and non responsable shops, I will never recommend AllState to anyone anymore and I’ll never go back!

A mess. The AllState system keeps trying to set me up for Drivewise. I don’t want it
I don’t want the Drivewise system for tracking me on my devises, but it keeps trying. Also, the AllState app doesn’t seem to work properly from the start. I’ve set up fingerprint I’d to open, but the app tells me it didn’t open, however it looks like it did open. This happens every time I try to use it. Also, I get emails, but I don’t see a specific message when I go into the app. Very frustrating and really a waste of my time… repeatedly!
Keep it simple. Just send me a bill, about 30 days or so, before it is due. That’s it. Also, I really don’t like pushed into automated bank payment transfers. I would much prefer to use my credit card, however, your fees for using a credit card of nearly $100.00, make that option difficult. I’ve probably wasted about 12 hours in less than 3 months, trying to get the app to work properly, or in trying to get through dead end emails from AllState.
If anyone has an alternative good company to recommend, for Homeowners & Autos, with a more basic structure & without the GOUGING FEES for using a credit card, please list their name. Deeply disappointed.

Frustrating
This app is very frustrating. Although I understand the need for location services to track drives, the fact that it forces you to always have the service on is a significant waste of battery. I’m not sure why it won’t allow you to chose “only when open” and with the app running in the back ground.
Additionally, I seem to regularly “lose drives”. You are supposed to earn discounts/cash back as you accumulate drives. I periodically check my numbers and drives that were there previously, regularly disappear without explanation (I didn’t remove them). I’ve been using the app for more than 4 weeks and I can’t seem to get past 25 drives…if my understanding of my agents explanation is correct, this is shy of earning eligibility for cash back (curiously).
The rewards and sweepstakes are kind of a joke. I asked a lot of questions when I joined Allstate to get better pricing and I have been generally satisfied so far but this aspect has been incredibly frustrating…maybe there is fine print I missed or details my agent failed to share about drive wise but I’m not recommending at this point.

DriveWise dinged me for being an attentive driver
My biggest complaint about the app is that I get dinged for driving defensively!
So here I am driving down the road, and this jackwad darts out into traffic from a side street without looking. I'm doing the speed limit. Not following anybody too closely but because this idiot isn't paying attention to what they're doing I have to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting them.
And I get dinged for excessive braking!
How is that even remotely fair?
If anything the app should be smart enough to know how fast you're driving and if you're driving the speed limit not ding you if you need to slam on your brakes like with what happened to me or say if a kid runs out into the street even!
Otherwise the app is OK.
Update June 14:
I'm noticing that I'm running more red lights (and pretty much all yellows) since installing this app. Since we're dinged if we have to brake suddenly, it's better to just run those red light (and definitely those yellows) when the DriveWise app is running.
Would be interesting to see if there are more accidents as a result of this app.
You're better off breaking the law with this app than you are to drive defensively.

Horrible app. Constantly nags, Face ID does not work
This is one of my least favorite apps. I thought it would be helpful to have my policies kept all in one place and my insurance card visible electronically, but constant bugs and nagging are so annoying, I am considering switching my insurance to another company.
I frequently have 4 or 5 badge alerts and try to log in to see what they are. I have Face ID activated, so you would think this would be easy…….but almost every time, it gives me a “something went wrong” error, and I must enter my password manually. This has been through many app updates and has not been fixed. I do not have this problem with ANY other app.
Once I log in, very often I cannot find anything that needed to be reviewed with the exception of trying to nag me frequently to sign up or activate DRIVEWISE, when I don’t want this feature. I have told my agent this and he said he would make changes to my account so that this would likely stop….but it hasn’t.
If I could give this app zero stars I would. How this app got a 4.8 rating, I cannot guess, since flipping through the recent reviews in the App store page seems to reveal most recent reviews seem to be one, two or three stars at the most.

Protocols need work
I’ve been using the app for over a year. During the last six months drives the app said I’d get approximately 13% cash back but I actually got about 6% when it came in. Since the update they’ve corrected its communication about what’s being offered back and they are apparently not giving back near as much as they used to, about half as can be figured- while insurance has increased by over 20%, even for those of us who’ve had no accidents or tickets for decades. It appears to be becoming nothing but a tracking app.
As far as the protocols… last night I was on my way home and a deer was standing the the road as I topped a hill. Needless to say, I got dinged for a sudden brake. I live in the Atlanta area where people are constantly pulling out in front of you and doing stupid things. If I have to make an evasive maneuver I get dinged. The right thing to do is not hit the deer or other vehicles but you’re penalized for making that move.
You have the option to choose what to keep and what to save but then what’s the point of the service anyway? If I turn off the service while operating a company vehicle I’m question about it. If I want to remove a drive for improper protocols, say last nights, there’s nothing to explain except “other”.

Horrible layout. Horrible app
I don’t know if it’s the policy type I have limiting options in the app or what but this has to be the worst insurance app I’ve ever used! If it spent as much time being useful as it did trying to sell me more coverages, it would be probably be a decent app. It suspiciously loads everything very quickly except the existing policy information. But don’t worry, there’s plenty of other nonsense about new policies and products to keep you preoccupied while you wait
I tried using the app help feature by searching for ‘how to remove a vehicle’. The results included, 3 ways to remove pet hair, how to remove a sticker from a car windshield, and how to remove stains from carpet and furniture. Perhaps someone needs to assist their developers with tuning a search engine. It must be amateur hour at the Allstate IT department
Next, I contacted support through chat. They gave me detailed instructions on how to locate the edit policy page. Yet the edit policy link wasn’t even displayed on the page I visited.
Finally, I called the company to modify the policy. After talking to their computer about verifying my policy, I got to sit on hold for 15 minutes while listening to a recording about how appreciative that I was being “patient” and how I could use their app, use chat, use text, use anything other than a human!

Wasn’t horrible but now it is
I have used the Allstate app for drivewise for a couple of years now. I thought, “sure I’m a safe driver, so why not let it tack me to save some money?” A couple of issues I’ve noticed (mostly while traveling), but not enough to get rid of the app. Now this “phone activity” is so terrible, if not resolved, I will be dropping the program. On a usual day I drive to work, park in the garage, get out of my car, and check my phone one last time on my walk into the building. This has caused me to have “phone activity” every day this week. Today it caused three! What? why? The same happens when I go home. Worse, last week I had drivewise off while on a cruise (because I knew I wouldn’t be driving) and when I turned it on again I had dozens of phone activity alerts. My snorkeling trip landed me with 8; I was on a boat! I don’t want my insurance tracking me if it’s not even going to be accurate.
Updated 1/8:
The response from the developer gave me a stock answer that did not even address my concerns.
As follows: "Each time the phone is unlocked while a trip is in progress, a phone activity event is captured, even if the car is temporarily stopped. Pulling over temporarily and using the phone, then resuming the trip may result in a phone activity event. It’s recommended to enter the destination or set music preferences before starting to drive. "

Deceptive Ratings and Terrible App
First, you’ve got people left and right trashing your trash app and then some random 5 star rating about someone’s experience with their insurance (or just fake bot reviews). The ratings here should be about this juvenile app, not Allstate Insurance Company. Second, since the latest and greatest update from the folks that should have been fired 2 years ago, Drivewise won’t restart when I stop it for night shift in a company vehicle, and it sits and spins for 4 minutes saying “Hold tight” before I can get into the dashboard. Try again Allstate. Update: Got a “response” from support asking me to contact them at the mobileapp email address, which I’ve done on a number of occasions. This leads to an email saying I have to call them. They refuse to deal with any issue over email for some reason. Update: Despite updates, app is still trash. Now, it goes days without showing trips, even with the invasive “precise location” tracking enabled. Why you need precise location is the question when we are talking about a moving vehicle and not a moving person. Also, as if we didn’t know this was coming, but Allstate has announced that Drivewise will NOW BE USED to calculate your premium! This wouldn’t be AS bad if the app they are basing premiums on wasn’t so trash! And finally, for now, dinging people for using hands free on their phone to either make a call or change their song is a bunch of crap. Oh wait, one more thing; ever notice that the 4 and 5 star ratings look like fake reviews?

Good company but
Allstate has always treated me fairly and timely. I have been a customer for over 40 years. That said, the app is pitiful. Sometimes you can’t see the writing because it seems to be superimposed on other writing. My biggest complaint is the Drivewise program which you can only use now thru your phone. I just upgraded my iPhone only to realize that it wasn’t the phone , but the Drivewise in Allstate app using 60-70% of the phone battery. Apple says there is nothing that they can do about this that it is Allstate using location in background constantly. I obviously want to get the good driving bonus but I also need my phone to have battery life. Today alone it used 75% of my battery. Now I have to turn it off and on. I think this is very inconvenient. Why can’t the app let you use it when your phone connects to your car. That way you don’t have to sacrifice battery for bonus. I don’t think I will remember to do this everytime I get in the car. It was better when the little device was in the car. Also the app is very difficult to navigate and doesn’t do a lot of what it should. I can’t check what my car insurance payment will be next month as it is a new year and the price will most certainly go up. I hope someone monitors the conversation that happen in reviews and actually do something to fix it but I won’t hold my breath. Allstate is too expensive not to have better service and it may be time to switch. Update: now the battery issue is fixed with location on always but doesn’t record trips
