Basic talk service
Issues with my basic talk. All I wanted to do was to talk to a customer service regarding my basic talk service. When I called, I got connected to a recording about a medical alert. I didn’t want the medical alert kept telling that recording or whoever it was, I didn’t want it and they connected me to another recording. Customer service sucks. Very frustrating.
Recommendation: Cheap but you get what you pay for
Basic Talk Phone Service Complaints 14
BasicTalk have only one customer service phone number and it's for anyone wanting to cancel account.
BasicTalk have only one customer service phone number and it's for anyone wanting to cancel their account. The phone number is [protected]. They don't have a customer service phone number where you can contact them and discuss your account or anything associated with your account like a past due amount.
And the most frustrating thing of all is you have to search for their phone on the Internet, they don't have it listed anywhere on their website.
Desired outcome: BasicTalk needs to put a customer service phone number on their website and it needs to be one they can call when they have any issues to discuss regarding their accounts
Basic talk [vontage]-scammed 11 months, no dial tone, no support or customer service 12/21-11/22
Basic Talk [Vontage] has been taking my money for 1 year. They haven't honored the agreement. There has been no service for a year (No dial tone). I've followed all of the cancellation instructions, but they never honor that. They ignore all emails, calls, and cancellation requests and continue to deduct money even knowing that haven't provided the service. They put you off and tell you they will call you back in 24 hrs, but they even lie about that. I asked to cancel on the cancellation line. The lady tried to get me to accept a new box for $79, but refused to address all the money they have taken and failed to provide service (no dial tone). Why would I accept another box after 1 year of no service, with no way to cancel, that they will honor! I've placed stop payments and they just change the amount the next month to keep taking money. I've asked for a full refund and they say they will call you back, but they don't. Basic Talk used to be good years ago. NOW, NOT SURE WHAT CHANGED SINCE THEY WENT DARK, IT'S ALL A SCAM TO GET YOUR MONEY! They don't care if you have service or not, which is a violation of the agreement. If you place stop payments they will change the amount to continue deducting money so you lose stop payment fees. NIGHTMARE! Cancel your business card on file (Even if it is a pain to do so). They will not stop deducting. This went on for almost one year. Horrible customer service! They are unapologetic scammers! How does a company ignore tech support requests knowing the line does work, but find ways to continue taking your money without providing service - SCAM that's how!
Week of 11-14-2022 still not refunded received!
Desired outcome: Refund for breaking their own service agreement from December 2021 to November 2022.
Account closed and they continue to bill me!
I have a dispute through my credit card to stop payment to Basic Talk. My account was closed on 2/16/22 via email which they acknowledged and I disconnected my phone.
There is no way to contact them on my online account just FAQ’s. They say you can talk with some one online but have not been able to.
If this does not get resolved soon, I will have no choice but to seek other action (i.e., BBB and Attorney General).
Desired outcome: Resolve this and Stop billing me for February, March, April and May 2022.

Basic Talk
I cannot be left on hold on my phone for longer than 20 minutes because my phone disconnects while I am waiting to talk to places like social security or Medicare there are other phone calls that have been dropped on me when I have to wait for them to answer. You need to fix this before I blow up I can't handle not getting in touch with these companies.
Desired outcome: Let my phone stay online on the call until someone answers it. I have been with you for several years but I need good service to stay with you.
bank changed my card and can not change online
cannot sign onto online account to change bank info. phone has been shut off
Desired outcome: need phone on for medical purposes
Updating billing info
The debit card that was being used to pay my bill was compromised, the bank reissued me another card, basic talk tried billing me using old card, I need to talk to someone to update my billing info, they also have an old email address and since i've had this service for over 7 years I no longer have my password to access my account, have tried several times to call and talk to someone, the first number is no longer in service and all I got with the second number was to access vonage website, I still wouldn't be able to resolve the issue because of the loss of my password, my number is [protected], I have used this service for at least 7 years and this is the first time that i've had a complaint and it could be solved within minutes if I could contact someone for help, really would like an actual person as I would be giving out information that should be secure, at this rate i'm really thinking about switching services
Desired outcome: to just talk to a customer representative and give them the new info
They never closed my account
For the first time in 6 plus yrs i was able to speak to someone and supposedly he canceled the account. They have been collecting $7.18 dollars from my account all this time. As soon as i asked about refund on all these yrs he canceled the account saying i never called them and hung up .
I didnt even know the phone number associated with the account.
Desired outcome: The return of my money. Basic math they took over $500 dollars from me.
Rip off fake charges
Basic Talk advertises its service as $9.99, so then how does it end up costing me nearly $16/month?
Because of Fake Charges made to look like taxes.
BasicTalk is nothing more than a big scam by Vonage
Basic Talk service interruptions
July 30, 2020 and two days, two weeks ago:
I have attempted to contact Basic Talk twice in July. Sudden interruption of service is accompanied by inability to communicate online thru their Technical issues link. Service went down again 8am Thursday, July 30. It is still down. I accessed the website, but links don't work and email cannot be submitted. It's as "dead" as my phone.
My questions have been: Why is the service going down? why are you not available to talk to or chat with? why don't you follow up with email? why can't I access my account using Chrome?(only through Firefox). I need to hear from Basic Talk immediately.
I leave my email but do not hear from them. All indications are that email is not going through. This is not a Covid issue - they are unresponsive - intentionally. My phone was down 2 days and again today. Yet, they will expect me to pay my bill in full.
Basic Talk is not communicating with customers during these times. I want credit on my bill for the service being down now 3 days total.
Cancelling
I spoke to a representative in november ‘this past year to cancel because I was moving and my roommate already had phone service. I continue to get billed every month sometimes 3 to 4 emails at once which I consider harassment. I have tried to call numerous times, get put on hold and then get disconnected everytime I call. I am getting tired of all the emails and don't know how to stop them
Message waiting feature stopped working
I have been calling basictalk (bt) for over a month but they still have not fixed anything. I no longer receive a blinking light on one phone and do not get message waiting text on the screen on another phone. I also have a third phone old old phone and the stutter dial tone, beep, beep, beep, beep that I used to hear when I pick up the phone if there was a message does not happen either.in fact that stutter does not happen any longer on the other two phones as well. I called bt and the say it is a problem with my phone. I tried all three phones on the neighbors phone system and all three phones vm message signalling works properly. I call bt back with this information and they stick with the story I have to contact manufacturer of phones to get them setup to work. This function worked on all phones up until over a month ago. They have no response when asked why the stutter tones are not working. The stutter tone when you pick up the phone has nothing to with the phone setup. Bt refuses to reset the programming to my phone or look into my problem. I find it very hard to believe that three phones go bad at the same time but work ok on another system. That fact alone tells me the problem is on their system. To me it appears bt is just giving lip service support of their broken system. Case number [protected] - ref (5001o00001l757p) most recent call was 5/28/2020. Fourth contact to bt for the same problem. Three chats and one phone call to there cancel number.
cancelled but still taking my money
On March 16th I called and cancelled my BasicTalk account. Two months later they're still taking the monthly fee out of my bank account. I tried logging into my old account but, naturally, they told me it was "cancelled" and I could not log in because my account was closed.
I called again today, May 9th, and was told by the boiler room agent in Mumbai, "Yes, we see in your account history that you cancelled on March 16th, but the agent left your account open until April 1st because you had already paid for the month."
So why are you taking my money? "Because the agent sent you an email advising you that your account was still open until April." But you took my money in April and now again in May. "Yes, but you got the email saying your account was still open." Right, just until May, right? "Let me talk to a supervisor." Dead air. "Sir? Sorry, we do not issue refunds for non-use of the service." But I cancelled March 16th, right? "Yes sir, I see that." So why are you still taking my money? "I'm sorry sir, we don't issue refunds."
Don't do business with basictalk!
I signed up with Xfinity triple play in December 2015. That’s when my trouble began. I requested to have my number ported to Xfinity, except that Basic Talk refused to release the line (according to xfinity, they did not provide any sort of explanation or justification as they are legally required to do). As a result, for the past 3+ years, all my outgoing calls went through Xfinity, but all inbound calls went to basic talk and never rang on my home phone.
I was caught in the middle as both sides refused to take responsibility to complete the porting process. On the one hand, xfinity insisted that they’ve done all they can. Basic Talk owned my number and I needed to call Basic Talk and ask them to release it. On the other hand, Basic Talk reps (from the thick accents I’m assuming the call center is in India?) did not seem to have any knowledge or understanding of my requests. They just insisted that there is nothing to do from their end to transfer my service. I was also threatened with the possibility of losing my number if I were to cancel basic talk service out right. I was ping ponging between the two companies while paying two separate phone bills for a service I can’t use.
After a couple of years in this situation, I finally got fed up enough to cancel the service with Basic Talk, because at that point I’ve grown used to not having a home phone service anymore and I didn’t care if I lose my home #. I paid close attention to my credit card bill at the time to make sure that there’s no more charges from Basic Talk. Except the porting never happened and Basic Talk restarted billing my credit card again. I still don’t know when billing restarted, as I can only look back 6 months of credit card bill online. I Immediately filed a dispute with my cc (up to 3 months) and I asked AMEX to block Basic Talk from ever charging me again. I guess is the When Basic Talk finally canceled my account and released my number. As of yesterday Xfinity was finally able to port my number and my home phone is finally ringing again after 3+ years.
Lessons learned. If I had known that Basic Talk is run by such crooks, I should have called AMEX immediately when I leave and block all future billings. Looks like that’s the only way they let you go without overcharging you. That would have save me 3+ years of inconvenience and frustration not to mention double phone bills. If you are not yet a customer Basic Talk please do not ever consider using this company. If you are trying to leave, please make sure you block them from your credit card. As many people on this post experienced, they will never let you go unless your credit card company does something about it.
porting old number to basic talk
Our landline is with Frontier and our phone number number has been checked as eligible to transfer to basic talk. Basic Talk claims to have submitted the "Number Transfer Authorization Form" to Frontier on July 24, today is Aug 29, 2017. The FCC has communicated with Frontier and determined that Basic Talk has not submitted any requests to transfer our number. Now I had to submit a complaint to the FCC charging that Basic Talk has not met their end in promising transferring our old number to my account to basic talk within 15 days. The FCC will be now contacting Basic Talk. My Account # is [protected].
Dishonest in billing
I purchased the basic talk unit from walmart two months ago. My billing date was on the 11th of each month. I got online on sept. 1st and cancelled my account. I got a screen that told me the account would be cancelled as of the end of my billing date. Then on sept 12th they charged my credit card again. Called their customer service on the 13th and wa...
