BBT hides the account changes on the back page of their statements where its quite easy to miss. I know this now. When I didn't, I found a $4 fee for the right to have check images provided show up unexpectedly on my statement. I called the bank. They said they could not waive it, and I asked them to remove it that day. However, even though we were only a few days into the next statement cycle, they said it would appear on that one to. So now we're at $8 in fees for a service I didn't want. Then, the kicker: the next statement had a fee for $2 for CALLING SOMEONE! I cannot find any information about this fee existing anywhere on their website or anyplace else. I wanted to cancel my account, but I just paid the renewal on my bank box last month, and you're not allowed to keep a bank box unless you have an account with them. This bank plays dirty - hides fees and changes rules almost monthly. I hate this bank and have already moved all but the minimum amount of $ to a different one. As soon as the bank box comes up for renewal, I'll move it to a new bank an close the whole thing.

Before signing up for any accout and signing the dotted line, read your bank services agreement. There is many banks that charge a fee for speaking to a rep. With BBT I happen to know that you get 2 free calls per statement cycle, after that there is a $2 fee. Depending on the situation the fee may be waived, such as lost/stolen cards, checks etc. The Easy Image Statement happened to be notified in the monthly statements in May and June. Dont read your statements? Not the banks problem. In the Service Agreement, it will advise you of all fees, and even tells you that any changes to the account will be on your statement. Dont hate a company because you refuse to read before you sign. All banks charge fees. You will learn this at other banks as well. Going to write another post about them later?
Hey "annoyedatconsumers", my agreement plainly states no fee for check images, yet I am charged $4 for images. And, for your information, I fulfilled all my obligations under the original agreement about my checking account with BB&T for my checking account. BB&T decided to change the requirements, evidently for no other reason than to screw their customers and collect fees hidden at the very end of the statement. The changes should have applied to new customers only! Not existing customers who should have been able to reasonably trust the original terms were in effect for their accounts. Changing terms when an original mortgage no longer qualifies, but did originally, under the new terms is unethical!
I agree with this poster. I do read my statements. This fee is sneaky. There is nowhere in My Account that explains the fee and nowhere to decline the service. I only write 2 paperchecks per month. I already selected online delivery only of my statements. Why would I pay $4 a month to see my cancelled checks online displayed on one page? I called to cancel this service. But, nothing within My Account reflects this change. I have loved BB&T for many years, but it's time to switch to a credit union or an online bank.
Seems BB&T does not appreciate their long-time customers as they are changing the requirements on their checking accounts to avoid fees. For those who have had a mortgage for years with BB&T and have diligently worked to pay down the balance BB&T is penalizing them with the new requirements which an older. existing mortgage that a customer has been making payments on will not qualify. BB&T is screwing loyal customers!
