They don't even deserve 1 star. Customer beware. We had to move several items from Nevada to N.Y. after my father-in-law died. They tried to charge us for several services that weren't provided. We continued to refute and prove the erroneous charges, but the entire process was a huge hassle. Their customer service is deplorable - argumentative, dishonest and could care less about the customer. Our items were supposed to be delivered within 14-21 days. We are beyond 30 days and still waiting. the manager, Renee, said she doesn’t care about negative reviews.
My sister-in-law also used them and was overcharged with mysterious fees. They also tried to charge her a $75 “stair” fee up upon delivery. when she refused to pay, they sat in their truck. She and her friend eventually removed the items from the truck

Moving
First off the actual people who move your items aka the drivers are wonderful and sweet people.
The corporate side aka the people you talk to on the phone to arrange everything are HORRIBLE. We went through a walk through of our house and had a second confirmation on phone call a few days before moving to confirm a range of pricing. They also told us that the movers would be delivering out stuff to our destination within 3-4 days.
The day of moving we were told that they would be delivering our stuff in 1 day because they had a new route and needed to move someone else and never communicated this to us… we were going to be reaching our moving destination in 2 days since they told us on the phone numerous times that the movers would deliver our stuff in 3-4 days. The corporate office was so rude on the phone and yelling at the actual movers and us. The actual movers had no idea what was going on as they do not handle the phone calls. They charged us an extra $500 to reach the destination in 3-4 days or threatened to unload and dump our stuff.
The movers are sweet but the people that you coordinate with on the phone are absolute [censored]
Movers
When I first booked my move, the representative I spoke with told me that my move would cost less than $4,000 "unless I suddenly acquired a grand piano." Then at pick up, I had substantially the same amount of items, yet my price suddenly jumped to nearly $9,000. I am a student and this is an outrageous amount of money to have to pay, especially without prior notice. When I initially spoke to a representative, I was also promised that on pickup day, I would be given an exact date of drop off. This was not the case. Today (three days after pickup), after trying to get in touch with the company twice, I was informed that there is still no known date of drop off. I am extremely aggravated and I feel that I have been scammed and lied to. I wonder if I will ever see my belongings again. I am basically homeless for the time being.
Desired outcome: I'd like my stuff delivered
Same unsatisfied as Presanth Krishnan comments. The so called coordinator was friendly until problems started getting my items delivered. Then said he was only sales, I would need to call customer service. I called many times and got the runaround. We were sleeping on air mattress for many days awaiting delivery. I naive to believe based on company name and having a coordinator, I made the right choice. This move has been a nightmare. No definitive delivery date, leaving messages without callback, having to pay transport workers with cash or money order, running up bill by loaded stuff which we could have taken ourselves, many missing boxes and broken items. Left message for so called coordinator as to how claim could be filed - no return call. BTW when the truck finally arrived it was a rented Ryder truck. We all complain about scam calls from overseas or do business in the US. Reporting them to BBB Isn’t enough. Report should be filed with state attorney and federal Transportation Administration.
It’s a shame when honest customers get treated this way, when a few improved business practices good resolve many of these complaints.
Same situation worst choice for a move . Promised by the sales person that it will be delivered in 5 -7 days now that when I called the sales team was talking like that’s the country mandate of 22 days delivery time and they cannot help anything else other than the sales. Such a disaster never thought I will be in situation by selecting this moving company. The Sales person not quoting his name here and his manager or colleague they are very arrogant and asking to contact customer care . One thing I understand from their call today is they are just moving agents they book for a price with out any inspection and give it to some shared team . It’s not the same company who deliver the package . Pickup by some company and drop by a different company.
Same situation waiting to deliver my stuff at the earliest
Terrible company
A Better Choice Movers moved my belongings in October 2006. I had my belongings in storage, which was changed to A Best Choice Movers (and moved from Fairfield, NJ to Hackensack, NJ) until October 2008.
They quoted me $500 and the charged me $1, 500!
I am missing almost all of my furniture, almost everything in boxes were broken, I found rat feces in with my clothes and all of the boxes were mutilated!
They 'lost' my payments and when I sent them the money order receipts, they would not accept them. In October 2008 they called me and said they were going out of business and I had to pay them $1, 900.00 to get my belongings out of storage.
I finally did settle for $1, 400.00. I filed an insurance claim for my missing and broken belongings, which I never received.
I filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau, which went unanswered by A Best Choice Movers. I filed a complaint with Consumer Affairs and they agreed on a very small settlement in December 2008, which they have yet to pay. Consumer Affairs will not return my phone calls.
You cannot trust this company or the State of New Jersey!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Yes find a large calliber bullet and shoot yourself
i got an over the phone estimate of some $400- and at the end of the moving day had to pay them with a handsome $1700- in order to get all my property out of their truck. they threatened me of bring the truck load of my stuffs to their storage if i don't pay.
i filed complaints to BBB Trenton, but only heard that they have gone out of business.
when i think of them i can not breathe out of thinking that the same devils will be doing the same business (or a new business) in the same way, hurting innocent people.
i called state department and was told, "if the company went out of business, there is nothing that can be done."
IS THAT REALLY SO? (can somebody answer?)
Tried to black mail on date of move
I was given an estimate of $70/hr for two men and truck. I specifically asked for when time starts and ends and they informed that time will start when they start work and will end when they leave our destination. On the day of the move, I was given with bunch of extra charges, like travel charge, more than 15 feet distance between truck and house ($150) etc. Please BE CAREFUL before you sign papers before move. They spend about an chargeable full hour to finish paper work (add this in your budget).
Movers are suckers. Extremely slow and trying to use all their extra supply without asking to increase bill. When we reached to destination, they took another hour to finish paper work. They asked us to pay everything before they unload the stuff. They will leave you with no choice but to pay what they want. Without any shame, they have added 20% gratuity to my bill.
I was given an estimate of $210 and I end up paying $550.00. I suggest DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY EVER. THEY ARE BLOOD SUCKERS AND SCAM ARTIST.
They were responsive...right up until the point your mone was collected. After that it was a month of hell as they double charged me (claiming the original contract was a "binding estimate" and didn't apply), arrived 7 hours late to come pick up my stuff, and then went more or less radio silent for three weeks as I panicked and screamed into unanswered voicemails about where the hell my stuff was. Turns out it was incorrectly delivered to some warehouse NEAR my home and I had to a) pay for the storage and b)hire a second moving company to finally deliver my things. Boxes were missing, looked like they had sat out in the rain for an hour, and I am turning to this review only after many tears.
Don't ever hire these guys, no matter what their quoted price is - you're not getting a deal, trust me, you're getting screwed.
Correction I mean date of move was 3/31/09 (that was two weeks ago. (sorry for my typo).
Dudley.
I can share MY experience with ROCKVILLE, Maryland branch of BEST TIME MOVERS.
On 3/31/08, I moved from house to an apt which is 1.2 miles. Job quote from BEST TIME MOVERS is 4 hours 85 dollars for 4 men plus 1 hour travel. (5 percent discount for cash payment plus 10 percent fuel surcharge.)
Total quote 4 hrs and 1 hour travel total 425.00
Net result, 4 hours job 2 hour travel (minus 5 percent discount and plus 10 percent fuel surcharge)
total to 533.
I was not told in quote that the additional travel (return trip) charge will be 85 dollars.
I had already been quoted only 1 hour travel charge of 85 dollars but they never said return trip back to the shop was another 1 hour of 85 dollars. ) However will not unload unless pay up. Of course, I couldnt argue on this but take it up with their management. They said it was 2 hour travel is correct.
Hey why are we paying them to return to work? Does the 1 hour travel time COVERS before and after job?
I appreciate the update on trend on scamming return trip surprise bill.
Dudley

They scam their customers
A Best Choice Movers is a classic mover's scam. They come in, look around your home, and quote a "guaranteed" price. Then, when it comes time for the move, they charge anywhere from $500 to several thousand more. DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS. When I complained, I was told "We'll take all your possessions and pawn them if you don't agree to the new price." Yes, they really said that.
These are horrible people and if you use them they will rip you off. Avoid them like the plague.
My complaint with A Best Choice Movers has been resolved! I was recently contacted by the owner of the company who was fair, honest & professional. He offered me a very acceptable resolution! I wish I had delt with him from the beginning...unfortunately, good help is hard to find these days. It is my understanding that A Best Choice Movers has gone through some staff changes recently which will help them tremendously! I had no real issues with the job the movers did...my furniture & belongings arrived without issue.
Scam artists
A Best Choice Movers is absolutely THE WORST CHOICE anyone could possibly make when selecting a moving company! I had to file complaints with the BBB and the NJ State Attorney General's Office because this company has such bad business practices! Don't let them tell you complaints listed here are those of the competition... that's what they told me. I can assure you I am NOT a competitor... just a regular consumer who was looking for a reliable, honest moving company to move my belongings less than 1 mile away. What I received was lies, undisclosed charges, over billing, damaged furniture, and more attitude & arrogance than you can imagine! I packed myself but was charged $507 for packing materials! They wrapped items in pads, then used "soft crates" and charged me for both when 1 would have been sufficient. They charged me $138 for 38 rolls of tape! I specifically requested no pictures or mirrors be taken by them as I did not want to pay the packing charges... when I wasn't looking they wrapped up the mirrors... when I questioned them & disputed the charges, they refused to unload my furniture until I paid the bill in full. To top it all off, they didn't finish the job. They told me they had plenty of time & space when they arrived, said it wasn't necessary to look at how much I had and insisted on moving my household items first when I told them my storage closed at 4 PM... they ran out of space on the truck and could make a 2nd trip as the storage was closing and we were also out of time.
Whatever you do... if you are looking for a moving company, my finance used Broadway Movers 2 days after I moved and they were great! I wish I had listened to him. A Best Choice should be shut down for misrepresentation, deception and fraud! Do Not Use Them!

EXACTLY what I dealt with.
I had A Better Choice Movers (which is now A Best Choice Movers) move my belongings from Piscataway to their warehouse in Fairfield. In February 2008 they moved to Hackensack and changed their name to A Best Choice Movers. I was not informed of the move and when I went to make a payment, it was returned. I contacted the police department in Fairfield and they told me they moved and that's when I found them.
When they did the move in October 2006, they quoted me $500.00. I told them that was all I had. They told me that included packing and boxes. I did pack alot of the stuff beforehand so there wouldn't be alot for them to do. By the time they got everything on the truck they were planning on, they charged me $1, 500.00. They were putting things like one small lamp into a box and they used 2 rolls of tape for each box! They told me if I didn't pay it right then that they would take all of my items to auction the next day! I had to borrow money from my aunt which was very stressful. They were late getting there and it took about 5 hours longer than what they quoted. They ended up leaving some of my stuff behind because they were too tired and ran out of time!
In March 2008 I wanted to pick my items up from their storage facility. I told them I could not afford to pay the $99 a month any longer. They told me I could not come and get my things, they would have to deliver them at $75 an hour with a minimum of 3 hours. They told me they would hold my items and I could start making payments when I could afford it.
In July 2008 some jerk called me and told me they only had 1 payment from me and that they were sending my items to auction. I provided money order receipts and that still wasn't good enough. I finally talked to someone who was willing to work with me.
I made a few payments of $200 and then they called me and told me they were going out of business October 31st and I had to come up with $1, 900 for the balance! They were not accepting my money order copies! I finally came up with $1, 400 and they agreed to that.
They moved my items to my new home last week and there are alot of things missing and alot of things broken. The boxes are all torn up! I am so upset!
I have already filed a complaint with BBB and I am going to send a complaint to the NJ Attorney General's office.
I had similar issue.
scheduled to unloading only. one hour before loading, they called and said their truck was broken and couldn't come. I complained & told them I would hire someone else. 3 hours later, they called again to send in another team by the end of day, while I was searching for another moving company. They did came at almost 5PM with 3 exhausted guys, even though I specifically asked for 4 people because of moving a baby grand piano. they asked me to sign off all the papers without any number on it and said it's standard procedure. while, to keep story short, they didn't finish loading on time ( of course, one less people and they're tired when coming in), but still charge me at 4 person's rate, 1 extra hour ( not counting travel time), and a broken leg in sofa. even though I gave each $20 tip, they kept asking for more.
I called 3 times afterwards to adjust the charge and was told they did what they did move the piano without damage ( like doing me a favor they didn't break it) and all charges are valid in their point of view.
I will dispute the charge from credit card company.
Lisstte,
I also had the same prolem with the company. Maybe we can join forces to fight against them. It will be easier to follow up as a group rather than alone.
Taking advantage of customers
A price and time were agreed upon. They arrived an hour late stayed 16 hours instead of 13 leaving at 3:00am, did not complete the move, therefore i had to rent a u haul to finish the job. Was insulted by the estimator who stated i had a big mouth when i questioned his under estimation of the job. This brings me to my most important complaint that i received an estimate of 1687.00 but was charged 4015.00 plus a mandatory 2 hour over time totaling 250.00. Moving is stressful enough without having the stress of being taken advantage of.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Same thing we dealt with. They are crooks.
On 1/5/2008 I submitted a complaint to complaintsborad.com involving A Best Choice Movers. I am hereby notifying this web site that A Best Choice movers has addressed the issue with me and issued a credit to my credit card. I am happy with there follow up effort as they did whatever they could to make this situation "right".
David Rubenstein.
I filed a complaint with The Better Business Bureau and they were not able to contact A Best Choice movers. I filed a complaint with Consumer Affairs, and they agreed on a settlement in December 2008. As of today, February 21, 2009 I have not received anything from A Best Choice Movers and Consumer Affairs will not return my phone calls.
I think A Best Choice Movers and the State of NJ are both criminals!
I agree with all the below mentioned complaints. Scam artists, hidden costs, and deception are all synonomous with A Best Choice Movers (what a ironic name).
I have followed up with Consumer Affairs and the Better Business Bureau. They lure unsuspecting VICTIMS into their traps with cheap quotes which are not representative and underhanded business practices. Hidden costs for any type of furniture, TV's, anything that has glass- they want to tape eveything, use blankets, and bubble wrap for things that are not necessary, and they charge you inflated prices for all. Then they force you to pay their ridiculous prices by threatening to keep your furniture hostage at their warehouse for additional cost.
Business as its worst... I may not get the money that was robbed from me by A Best Choice Movers but see that as incentive to do everything in my power to see that this deceptive company's malicious practices are brought to light and exposed.
I had a simialar situation as Lharley. They told me they were going out of business and told me I had to pay them $1, 900 plus moving costs. I do not even make that much in a month. I offered them $1, 400 in cash and they took it.
When all of my items were delivered, I noticed most of my furniture was missing. The boxes were all smashed up and alof of my glass items are broken.
I noticed 2 wood chairs have been chewed on and when I opened one of the clothes boxes, there was rat feces and some kind of rat food in the box. I was so disgusted!
I have filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau and the NJ State Attorney General's office.
I could go on for hours about how horrible this company is!
“A Best Choice Movers” at 200 S. Newman Street in Hackensack, NJ are the ### of the earth. On Sept. 5, 2008, I used A Best Choice Movers to store 6 items at their storage warehouse. The movers they sent were unprofessional. Not one of my six appliance were wrapped in blankets and taped while I was there and I was there until they put the items in their truck. I had to instruct them on how to get the refrigerator through the door. Now, previously, I had given a staff at Best Choice my credit card number - so they had that information already. After all of my uncovered items were loaded into the truck and the office was called, they were told the credit card machine was broken and they needed cash. They said it had broken the day prior to my move at about 4:00 PM. I asked why was I not called to inform me of this so I could have made alternate arrangements. The so called owner, got on the phone and argued with me and made this statement "I am not one of your boys." I asked him what was that supposed to mean. I interpreted that to be stereotypical as well as racial. Yes, I have an accent, I am a caribbean woman and I am a Black woman and in the heat of an argument, everything comes out. I told him he was very disrespectful and does not know who to deal with the public. In essence, as my items were already on their truck, I had to have that truck follow me home (the items were not at my home) and go to a bank in my area in order to pay cash. Even though I got the first month free, I was coerced into paying the 2nd months rent which was $100.00. At this point, I felt I had no choice. I paid the money. I got Sept. 5 - Oct. 5 free (1 month) and I paid for Oct. 5 - Nov. 5.
On Wednesday, October 22, 2008, I received a call from a staff member indicating they were going out of business and had until Oct. 31 to remove all items from their warehouse. Can you imagine my surprise and disgust. (I believe they knew they were going out of business and wanted to get everything in cash and to scam people for the last time before closing their doors. I know that businesses do not go out of business in a day. They are notified and are given at least 90 days to rectify their situation.) I was then asked if I could come immediately to retrieve my belongings. At this time, I was at work and could not - I also needed to contact another moving company to retrieve my belongings - things had to be scheduled. I did find another moving company, All American Movers & Storage (head and shoulders above the rest) and they came today, October 24, 2008 to move my items to their storage company. They were prompt, I met them there waiting for me. My appointment was at 10:00 AM. Upon entering the premises, my items were laid bare with just some tape around all of them – not one item had a blanket or a box associated with it – the tape around all the items indicated they belonged to me. In the meantime on my bill, they charged me $97.00 for 10 rolls of tape, 10 blankets, 10 bubble wraps and 2 boxes – and not one of those items were used on my appliances. They are outright thieves and scam artists. People out there, blankets, tape and bubble wraps and boxes should remain on your items until they are retrieved from the storage place. They are not put on and taken off when they arrive at the storage facility. There were scratches all over the items and I commenced taking photos of all the scratches. My new movers commenced wrapping and taping like the professionals they are. When they were done, you did not know what was under the blankets and tape. They were almost done when the so called owner came in. At that time I was speaking with my guys and saying that is how things are supposed to be done. The owner jumped in and said, “if you paid for that, you would get it.” I then said, “I was not talking to you.” He then said I could get the F--- out of his place and started cursing me and of course, the Caribbean woman that I am, I cursed the hell out of him also. He then wanted my movers to take my items outside to finish wrapping them. Can you imagine. My guys, though, said he was now messing with their livelihood, their paycheck. They came here to do a job and would like to complete it the correct way. In the meantime, we are still arguing (seems as if anyone who speaks on the terrible service or takes photos of items that were damaged because of their inexperience, unprofessionalism and incompetence are not welcomed on site. I am not going to sit or stand by and allow someone to take advantage of me. The words that came out of this man’s mouth cannot be repeated here. He was disrespectful, nasty, out of order and just a complete blight on the human race. I knew if a man was standing in front of him, he would not have had the balls to say what he said to me. It is no wonder he is going out of business and I told him that. He needs to learn to speak to people. He simply did not take to me from the beginning because I challenged him. I told him I would call the police. He said he wanted me and my things out of there or he would throw them out. I told him he could not put me out, I had a legitimate appointment today and my items were housed in his warehouse. I was paid up until November 5 and I had every right to be there. Yes, I told him he was a nasty piece of sh--.
I did call the police because I did not want it to escalate into something that would go completely out of control and of course, he met them at the door and tried to give them his version of what happened. I also gave them my version of what happened. He started to change his tune somewhat, but I did not want to hear anything he had to say and dismissed him. The officers suggested I go into the hall and I went outside. My guys were already 99% finished and I had taken the photos I needed.
This company was the absolute worst – a nightmare from beginning to end. And I knew in my heart that things would not turn out well for them. I felt it on the first day when he was so rude, but my hands were tied. He is now out of business and beware people, he may turn up again under a different name, address, but something will still be there to identify him. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY OTHER NAME. THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS, SAY ONE THING AND DO ANOTHER AND DO NOT HAVE ANY INTERPERSONAL SKILLS. IF YOU HAVE TO PAY MORE FOR MOVING DO SO, IT WILL BE WORTH IT IN THE LONG RUN. A LOWER COST DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN LOWER SERVICE, BUT IN THIS CASE IT WAS THE ABSOLUTE WORST.
Dear Brandon or John:
I have tried to contact you about the 10% discount on my move you promised because I was a senior. I called you told me you would get back to me. I sent a letter on June 4th and still have not heard anything.
I paid immediately and also paid a tip to the men on the truck that I did not know I had to pay... that was $700.00 plus the almost 5000.00 to move from RI to NJ. I live on a fixed income of very little and when I finally figured out my bills after being here a few weeks and settled, I noticed that there was no discount. I then notified you but I still have not heard anything. I do not understand as I will be moving again and soon and this has left me with a very bad taste for movers.
I would appreciate someone getting in touch with me on this matter. My phone # is [protected] or you can e-mail.
Thank you Barbara Roussel.
David,
YOU ARE THE MAN!
Also, I second that... NEVER NEVER NEVER use this company. They are a complete scam artist, and they don't like it when you call them on their scam...

I guess we are all in teh same boat.
Thsi company - lures you with low quotes - and still sounding reasonable ( i dont know if all movers are a hoax - just like car salesmen ( sorry - but that experience as was 10 years ago and as was 2 months ago - remains teh same... blood suckers ) )
so, i suggest to them to make the move worth their while and mine too - after all they are here to make money - and just like many others on this board - i specified - ASK me before incurring extra costs - they did NOT use my tape but theirs - at$3.5 per peice! and things like wrapping old worn chairs in blankets - then stuffing my utensils in a box that cost $20! ... for one box - ok, i deal with cartons and hourly laboreres too- daily in my job, but this was ridiculous and then when they realised that i was penny pinching, they refused to unload without me paying them first - talk about service.
O - not to forget that they blatantly asked for "gratuity" even before they started the job - God knows who this Brandon is but the whole gang is a bunch of blood suckers ! - they forced me ( and they do give you the look of hoodlums when you argue with them)to pay what ever they wrote on the "invoice"... get a life guys - i really hope all the folks involved in this operation ide miserable deaths! ( sorry but i had to go this far!)

My move was around Jan 01, 2008
