Best App I have ever used
This is, by far, the best app I have ever used.
Download it. Go through the Themes. They are, downright incredible.
I have never found a better interface and operating software (if that is even the correct terminology). What I mean is….this thing is insanely well designed! Like, SERIOUSLY!
It’s so fascinating how this app, in every nuanced detail or section is designed to help you experience the Bible how it was written. What an amazing thing to do. This was the perfect addition to the already incredible pool of resources.
Oh my gosh it’s amazing, they create little links as to how the themes interplay with each other. This could not be easier to understand, while still being extensively detailed when you are ready for it to be
Amazing for people with ADHD
I’ve been a Christian my entire life, but even as I’ve grown into adulthood, it’s always been a motivational struggle to open up the Bible and read. Just being honest here—where are my ADHD-ers at?! This app changes everything. It doesn’t change or add anything to the scriptures. It brings them to life! The quizzes and links are a great way to make the Bible reading experience interactive and engaging. It really is like Duolingo for the Bible. One of my favorite parts about it is that it doesn’t feel competitive or achievement-focused. I cannot recommend this enough. I’m going to tell everyone I know about this app. PLEASE keep going with this project. God is using you guys to bring His people closer to Him. My REAL rating is 10 stars
Awesomeness
The Bible Project has impacted many for years! They’re so scholarly and amazing at looking at the context of the Bible for whatever passage it may be, and context determines meaning. Most translations you read, be it The Message, NLT, NIV, KJV, NKJV, etc—as long as it’s faithfully translated and interpreted from the Greek as best it could be (I’ve taken Biblical Greek classes myself), or you’re background or experience, the Bible Project has made it simple yet impactful for people to experience the Bible in a powerful way. I love that they were finally able to make this happen! Can’t wait to start reading my Bible in this way and engage in increasing my passion and knowledge of the Bible—ultimately, further deepening my relationship with God.
Lifechanging
Holy cow. This is an amazing app. The developers crafted it so well. It is easy to use, holds so much cohesive information, and already small updates have even improved it. The “journey” section makes reading what used to seem like the driest content on earth, come alive in a new way. Reading the “journey” makes me want to hear the whole story! I can’t wait until Jesus shows up. I feel like I’m reading the Bible for the first time and I grew up in the church. Having Bible Project videos and a separate section for the Bible is incredibly convenient. I don’t need to go to YouTube or have a another Bible app anymore. Love love love. Bible Project does it again. Get it and watch the OT become a page-turner you actually feel confident you understand.
Fantastic
This app is overwhelmingly great. I love the ability to turn off chapter and verse numbers. The pictures along the journey and collectible links have been a really refreshing experience. I’ve also been enjoying the amplified version (first time reading it). Seems some people are hating on the lack of KJV but I’m just kinda like… God didn’t hand-translate the KJV and ordain it as the only acceptable translation if you want to get as close to the original text as possible, learn Hebrew and Greek. This app has given me a fresh joy in reading the Bible. Thanks for putting this app together my dudes and dudettes. It’s beautiful and very well done. The sound effects when collecting a link are incredibly satisfying Excited for the journey to continue!
Tim Mackie, you are wrong, teaching false GOSPEL
Tim Mackie...You said quote " It teaches that homosexuality as an “orientation” is normative; Christians can have strong, romantic, sexual feelings for people of the same sex. As long as they don’t actually have sex, they are not sinning... " Truth: “But I say to you, that whoever looks on a woman to lust after her, has committed adultery with her already in his heart. Matthew 5:28 If you look at a a person with lustful interest (whether gay or straight) your are already sinning, even without having sex with them. Truth: Do you not know that the unrighteous and the wrongdoers will not inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived (misled): neither the impure and immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who participate in homosexuality? 1 Corinthians 6:9
A New and Wonderful Way to Dive into Scripture
Very much enjoying learning from this new app! There’s a mind mapping type of aspect to the content which makes this such a fresh approach to studying Scripture. It’s richer than a typical linear way of reading and studying the Bible. The creativity and artistry in reaching learners of all types is outstanding. This is truly a fresh breath for such an important life-long immersion into better knowing God as our Father, Son and Holy Spirit and for drawing nearer to Him. I can’t even describe how very well done this app is, plus how much I appreciate The Bible Project and all the team has put into it. Thank you and God bless you! Keep on wowing us as you do so well. I’ve been such a fan of the videos especially and this app takes those and multiplies the creativity and impact to an nth degree. So wonderful!
Yay! But please add ESV and dark mode
With delight and excitement, I just downloaded and started using the app tonight so I don’t yet feel qualified to write an adequate review of what I am imagining is an amazing app. But I do want to say I was very disappointed to find that the ESV translation is not offered in the Bible section. If there’s any way you can obtain the rights to add it, please do. From what I understand, it is one of the two types of translation you identify yet achieves an excellent balance between the two while also retaining a very masterly literary flow to the text. I pray he will add it as I hope to camp in your app instead of even though YouVersion app but I so prefer and daily memorize ESV translation scriptures so I am very disappointed your app is lacking the ESV.
Oh and dark mode too. Please. Keeping fingers crossed for both additions.
Thank you!
Such a great study tool! Love the app
I am the kind of person that likes to learn about the way certain scriptures of the text align and parallel to further reveal what God is communicating through the Word and this app provides just that! I get to read in many translations/versions, which is even more beneficial, with the “links” feature that describes in further detail certain portions of text through comparison, parallelism, etc. Those connections and themes between the text that dawn on you when a preacher brings it to your understanding is all highlighted within the “links” which I really appreciate. It helps me develop a much deeper and rounded understanding of the text, beyond simply what the words say. The podcast is also a really great way to help me learn and develop an understanding of the Bible the way it was meant to be. Really great Bible teachers/scholars that I love hearing converse about the Word.
A Must Have!
I discovered Tim and then the Bible Project around the start of the pandemic. The videos were so helpful to me as I was struggling with significant frustrations with the church. I love Jesus and I wanted to continue to learn and grow in my relationship with Him while unpacking strong emotions associated with the church. I am so grateful for this app as it allows me to better understand the Bible. I also love how the focus is on understanding the history, culture, and literature styles to better understand the Bible. I have also learned that many people quote verses in their attempt to argue or condemn others yet they are taking the verse out of context and they do not fully understand the history associated with the verse, chapter, or book. If you legitimately want to learn and grow in your understanding and relationship with Jesus - and not get yanked around by the rhetoric in the media (especially social media) - this app is a must have.
Top Notch
I was a little underwhelmed when the app was announced. I wasn’t sure what new it would bring to the table. Sure it would be great to have the BibleProject videos all in one place, but what does that do that the YouTube channel or Website doesn’t already?
I was pleasantly surprised with how well crafted the app is. You have the videos and podcasts there as expected. The Journeys and Skills are interesting, I’m not sure what their fully realized vision will end up being, but it seems fun. But what this app absolutely home runs on is the actual Bible part. It provides a few different translations like the YouVersion Bible or other apps do, but with this app you can click a verse and it will suggest to you BibleProject resources for you to learn more and understand what is happening. It’s an excellent user experience and is fantastic for personal and small group Bible study. That feature alone makes me endorse this app whole heartedly. The rest is just the cherry on top.
If you want to understand the Bible better get this app. Just do it. It’s great.
An Excellent Resource
The Bible Project app is an incredible tool for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the Bible. The app is beautifully designed and user-friendly, making it easy to navigate and explore its vast array of resources.
One of the standout features of the app is its library of animated videos that provide insightful overviews of every book of the Bible, as well as many important biblical themes. These videos are engaging and accessible, making complex biblical concepts understandable for people of all ages and backgrounds.
In addition to the videos, the app also includes a range of reading plans, devotionals, and other resources that can help users engage with the Bible in a meaningful way. The app also includes a community feature that allows users to connect with other Bible readers and share their insights and questions.
Overall, the Bible Project app is an invaluable resource for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of the Bible. It is clear that a great deal of care and thought has gone into the creation of this app, and it shows in every aspect of its design and functionality. Highly recommended!
Ahhmazing app!
I had heard about the Bible Project vaguely in the YouTube world and somehow one of their videos popped on my screen one day. The beautiful illustrations and explanations of how the Bible is divided into different styles of literature (like you would learn about in school) really hooked me. Then I heard Tim and John mention the app. That’s when I decided I should try it. I’m only in the first movement of Genesis, but I’m relearning how to read the Bible thanks to them. It’s a good relearning in that it’s not just about focusing on chapters and verses but seeing the whole picture of the Bible and seeing all of the interweaving of themes and connections. I could go on and on about what I’ve found so far. What I appreciate is that within the Bible pages they give you, there is an overwhelming large amount of resources to help you understand what you’ve read including their videos and podcast series. People, they go back to the original languages of Hebrew and Greek, so I know that they are communicating what the Biblical authors originally intended, which is huge in my opinion. I’m so glad this app is free, and I’m amazed it is with how much is available! Love love love this!
I want to like it, but the downloads make it difficult
First of all, the app overall is actually really well designed, and it makes studying the Bible fun and engaging. But the thing I cannot get over is the fact that the downloading of podcasts for the journey section doesn’t function the way it should. Every time I try to download the episodes I want to listen to at work, and the app refreshes after I’ve had to pause it for a few minutes/moments, and/or if I close the app out and open it again, the episodes are no longer downloaded, even if I’d never deleted the download. It’s incredibly frustrating, and it’s stopped me from using the app all together, because where I’m at in the journey requires me to listen to the podcast, and I can’t when I’m at work because they’re not downloaded, even after I hit download and watched them download. I can’t listen to it on WiFi either because my works wifi is sub par to say the least.
I’m very disappointed by this because I love the Bible project and what they’re doing on YouTube, but this has been a problem since the app was launched and hasn’t been resolved at all. It’s because of this that I can’t give it a rating higher than 2 stars. I hope it gets resolved soon because when it did work, I enjoyed the app very much.
Obsessed
Thank you so much BibleProject for all that your team does to bring the Bible to life! I recently was told about you from a family member. I watched a few YouTube videos and began listening to your podcast (on Spotify) while at work. I literally listen to you guys my full 8 hour shift. I discovered that the app existed a few days later after looking at your website. I now listen on the app and I have begun going back and listening again and taking notes. The only thing I wish I could do is take notes on the app. Especially with the Bible tab. I love how you guys have the links to the scriptures you are referring to, and I always find myself wanting to click it to highlight and/or add a note of something you guys said to the scripture you are referring to. I have been bouncing back and forth to another Bible app and/or my binder of notes(when I can). I feel like it would make it even more interactive especially when you are listening on the go and don’t have your Bible and binder of notes right in front of you. Other than that this app is the best Bible study app I have found to date! It has opened my heart and mind to so much I never understood. Especially the patterns. My whole life of growing up with the Bible I never knew that the Bible was so connected all the way through. mind blown! Again, Thank you thank you thank you for all that you at the BibleProject do!
Warning- Don’t use! (read to the end)
I have kindly requested of Bible Project to please add a King James translation in their last app. They didn't, so I deleted it, but I hoped they’d remember for their next app so I was looking forward to this day thinking they’d do the right thing. But, THEY DID NOT, again.
Why is it the right thing to use a King James Version , I hope you’re wondering that right now, and I pray you find the knowledge, understanding and wisdom to study from the only version that contains the true preserved word of God, and question why Bible project would prefer to prioritize writing style and other things over Bible facts? People, these facts mean the difference between understanding your Bible or going down a road of false doctrines that in many but not all cases does make the difference between being saved or not. If you Don't want God as he truly is, and you just want a man with “morals” that change to suit your desire then go ahead and read the New American Standard or the Amplified version that Bible project offers. Because those versions call Joseph the father of Jesus, they cause doubt with footnotes about Jesus coming to save the lost, they remove the word repentance which is an absolutely necessary doctrine to salvation, but how would you know that unless you read the King James? So yes.. the wrong Bible versions could make a HUGE difference in your eternal existence! Those are just a few of the countless differences and it matters enough to boycott all other visions. You’d need to read a few dozen books to cover all the documented differences, don't make assumptions. Remember, these versions have to be 10% different to get the Catholic publishing stamp of approval (which means the enemy has monetized the system so profits go to those who change the word of God (which is forbidden by God)) but think about this, if God said he’d preserve his word, but it keeps getting wildly changed with each new version, and God doesn’t lie, so I ask you which one Version did he preserve? They’re too different for it to be them all! Also be aware the NEW king James is still nothing like the 1611 King James. Another thing, the real King James is free online to download, the rest are NOT. And my i terest in the Bible project was for my children, because visual lessons work well for them, but I cant support their ignorance anymore. Last warning, the enemy is mainstram… so we must be small and local and take the power away from those who teach false doctrine and those who would have us fooled and ignorant of the truth.
An amazing community of knowledge in one app
This app has an immense fountain of knowledge to swim through. Starting you off it has a journey tab, that puts the Bible in a literary, text pov, where it teaches how the Bible’s style of writing actually expands on the core message of the Bible. It emphasizes how learning these techniques the authors used, unlocks your vision to the bigger picture thread through the entirety of the story. It has beautiful videos, as most of you most likely already know from their YouTube videos. Now there’s even more videos linked with sections of the Bible relating to the study aspect I mentioned, to help visually teach, as well as voice over for auditory learners, and below the video, they have Bible verses and references to other videos they have made pop up that are linked to the exact moment they speak about it in the video. There is visible evidence of very well thought out ideas for all learners to have their share here, because there are also mini quizzes on what they teach you. Along with an entire Bible with a few different translations and, even throughout the entirety of the Bible, they have links on a lot of verses to videos, podcasts, and writings they have done that particularly pertain to that verse. Throughout the ENTIRE Bible. So much work was evidently put into this app, it looks aesthetically pleasing, it feels roomy and clean. They even have a tab with all of their podcasts and all of their YouTube videos with download buttons to save for later. I particularly love this feature as my job takes me to areas out of service for days to weeks at a time, and I can store all of this on my phone. This app feels like a little church, of people who care about scripture and want to teach you what they have learned through their readings. Very great app the team should be immensely proud of, the only thing, ( it is not a criticism, but a suggestion) is I feel a Hebrew text in the app, or bilingual text would be great. As you guys mention a lot of Hebrew words in the videos, I think it would be a nice touch to reference the actual Hebrew and Greek text with a Hebrew/ Greek translation for the Bible portion of the app, as translations from Hebrew and Greek to English have differences, and alot of the app is focused on seeing the Bible in a very technical and literary form in the journey portion. Learning these little differences although mostly doesn’t impact understanding a significant amount, it does give extra little hidden nuggets of knowledge and sometimes just cool tidbits knowing the very first form the text was put in. It’s personally one of my favorite things you guys do in your videos, telling the name of something in Hebrew or Greek. Other than that, if you want a continuous developing knwodlege of the Word, then this is a immensely helpful and beautiful tool to use
BibleProject Complaints 9
wish there was more
It would’ve been great if I were to be able to choose the King James Version! .
Not Christian
They refer to Jesus as a prophet. Not the son of God who is the savior of the world.
No KJV version
There is no translation option for the KJV. Since this version is in public domain I not sure why it is not offered. Because of this I can not use this app as my go to study Bible. I will use it as a supplemental aid.

Disappointed
I was so excited to open this app and dive in. So my frustration is in the illustrations, seems very juvenile. Never was into comic books as a adult. The info given is correct but moves a little fast. I guess in my opinion it’s for teen or kids. To each his own. I will stick with Turning Point with Dr Jeremiah. God bless
NO KJV! New bible versions are dangerous!
The new bible versions are deceptive and shame on you Bible project for supporting satan’s cunningness and spreading deceit.
Brothers and sisters, use wisdom, pray and do your research on these bible versions! A simple google version will show the many errors in these new bible versions. Stick to the KJV so that you can really know the one and only Almighty God.
Limited versions available
So I was excited to download this app because I learned a lot from them on YouTube, however, I’m uninstalling this app because they only provide like 3 Bible translations. Maybe when they provide KJV and NKJV into this I may reinstall. I don’t like the idea of using the NIV because it’s been proven that that version CHANGES AND DELETES some parts/verses of the Bible and God said you should not add nor subtract from his word. I urge everyone to be carful of what you feed your spirit. Not everything/everyone who claims to come from God is of God.
In the Beginning…
You need to make a correction God did not tell the animals to go and multiply. He told Adam and Eve to go and multiply!

Force closes
I was really excited about this app after a lady at church told me about it last night but every time I try to open the app it force closes on me every time.

Glitched Journey
I was enjoying using the app, but it broke for some reason. After I finished Genesis movement 1 in the journey tab, I can’t scroll down to the other movements. The whole screen glitches out. The other tabs appear to be fine. Is this a known error? I don’t want to delete and re-download my app because I’m afraid my progress will be reset.
