I purchased a pallet load of BP shingles from Totem Bldg Supplies in April stored them flat in my garage until about a month ago. When we started using them, we found in sealed packages we were getting ripped shingles from the tab toward the other tab. We are about 1/3 done the roof and I have at least a full square of defective shingles. I e-mailed BP Quality Assurance with the problem-no reply. Anybody else with simular expieriences?

At christmas we rec'd a response-they wanted to know if we had replaced the shingles, seriously. For ahile it looked like our warranty was in jeopardy but eventually we did get paid for the replacement shingles. Good dealm except that means the ones on the roof will probably pack it in early. Oh well another day in paradise.

I had some bad shingles(installed myself and we filed a complaint. They sent us a box(prepaid )to send shingles back for testing. After we had given up about 5 months we did get a rebate, but they will not pay for installation. I personally don't know of any class action suits but good luck.

I agree, you should be able to get the full life expectancy but they seem to steeply pro rate them. Good Luck and hope you get some legal action going.

The gas staions pump rip me off and when I filled up it gave me 13.55556 on the pump and that is worrong

Not this problem but I am having problems getting BP to take responsibility to shingles that get lifted off by wind. To me, this is a symptom of another problem. The fact that the shingles have very little adhesive (according to my roofing contractor) is likely one of the reasons why they have not sealed properly and become lifted off by winds. BP continues to state that the problem should only be covered by their WIND warranty and my roof is one year past the warranty expiry date. We're still talking about a 6 year old roof.

I received a reply from BP asking me to forward pictures of my roof inside and out, before roof was replaced and after, how many folks take pictures of the before project. I have done all that was requested, without the before picts, now I find their in box will not receive my attachment even though I have zipped the file, again requested by BP Canada, because they cannot receive files that contain more than 2 pictures.
I smell a skunk. Our shingles are less than 1 year old, fishmouthing, corners rolled up, shingles not staying down, these are BP Rampart shingles, 2 tone black, there is no 2 town anything, these are grey. Their response was there are color variations in all their colors, this is not what the salesman told us.

Not this problem, but we are having problems with BP.

Buyer Beware! Our bad experience with BP Canada:

My father purchased BP Canada shingles with a 25 year warranty. He lives in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. This is the letter we sent to them in May 2010 to which we have had no reply:

"New shingles were installed on my father's roof by B&B Siding & Roofing Ltd on July 30, 1999. For the past two years, my father has been dealing with B&B regarding his defective shingles (pictures were attached showing the shingles clawing and deteriorating). After frequent requests, a visit was made by representatives from your company, one of them being (name removed). My father was told that a sample would be taken and sent to your laboratory and he would be advised of the results. December 8, 2009 a letter was sent indicating the lab results showed that no deficiencies were found. As there was a slight language barrier, I have now taken over dealing with this issue. On May 11, 2010, I contacted BP at the 1-800 number provided on the card requesting to speak with (name removed) and was told that he was unavailable. I was also told that if I provide the file number, the person on the other end of the phone would try to assist as best as possible. Upon providing the file number, he advised that the file indicated a sample was supposed to be taken and sent to the lab, but wasn't, and that a message would be relayed to (name removed) to address this matter and to return my call. This information completely contradicts the December 8th letter. This is very unprofessional to say the least. To date, I have not as yet received a return call. Regardless, as you can see from the pictures, these shingles would not be acceptable by anybody's standards.

Please accept this letter as a demand to have these shingles replaced and installed at today's market value. If not resolved by June 30, 2010, legal action will commence."

We never received any response.

Is there any class action suit against BP that anyone is aware of? If so, I would like to participate as we are in the same situation.
We are in London Ont. Our shingles look like the ones submitted by Gary in Edmonton.

I have conducted a survey in my immediate area and have found numerous roofs with deteriorated BP Rampart shingles. Lifetime for these shingles seems to be between 2 - 12 years which is far below the 25 year guarantee. My roofer has been in contact with BP and have offered to replace my 11 year old roof for virtually the same cost as what I paid 11 years ago. So, for my money I got a roof that lasted 11 years. The salesman for the roofer that installed the shingles assured me the roof would last 25 years plus. This is certainly grounds for a class action suit. Speak up people! Let's get going. about 8.25am sunday 5th june. at the bp service station 364 the ridge, hastings. i ended up having to go to hospital with a lpg freeze burn to my hand after using a dodgy lpg pump at one of your bp service station. i managed to fill up in the correct way but when i went to release the pump trigger for the nozzle, it sprayed lpg directly on my hand. so i immediately gripped the trigger again to stop the leak and waved to the attendant for help, when the chap from the kiosk came he said he'd switched the pump off and it was ok to let go, so i did and got another blast on my hand again, so i gripped the trigger again to stop the leak. he went back inside and got some gloves and managed to force the nozzle from my vehicle. i'm not very happy at all.

I experienced exactly the same issues with these shingles on my home in Ontario. I put on a new addition and therefore extended my roof by another 12 feet six years ago. Today, August 18, 2011 I had to replace the entire roof on the south side. The shingles were totally ruined - curled, litterly cooked on the bottom and about 75% of the grid completely gone, down to the bare paper/felt. Also, during the past 2 years I lost more and more tabs from the wind. Looks like the tabs are not totally bonded to the shingle underneath... The north side of the roof is still o.k. but not good eighter. Some tabs are starting to curl lightly... after 6 years on a 25 year shingle. NO MORE BP for me! I will NEVER buy them again and Home Depot should really STOP selling them.

DITTO We are in the same boat with BP shingles failing on a "Quality Homes" modular home from Arthur Ontario . We are in the Hamilton area and the claims process is daunting. About to start the photos in the morning.

I am in the process of winding up my warranty claim for 14 year old BP Rampart shingles in Saskatchewan. It has taken almost a year to get a settlement. I filed a warranty claim, jumped through all the hoops BP requested including all the documentation and many pictures. And then I waited, and waited some more. Finally I emailed them for an answer and a few days later got the standard letter others have presented denying my claim. All through the process I stated that if BP ignored my warranty claim that I would go to court. Well to small claims court I went, prepared the necessary documentation, served the court summons and received a court date. Three months later (small claims court waiting list is similar to medical waiting lists - long) and about a month before court date, I received an e-mail from BP offering a what I believe to be their standard warranty settlement. The next day I received a phone call from a local law firm representing BP. They were not aware of the settlement offered. I said I was not comfortable with BP's settlement offer as it left out many details, required replacing with BP shingles, and entailed a complicated settlement process. It did not address my court costs and frustration with the standard BP warranty response - deny, deny, and deny. I told the law firm the price of the replacement shingle quote that I received from a BP recommended installer. The law firm suggested a suitable cash settlement, which I am not permitted to disclose. My advice is to take BP to small claims court to get their attention and be patient.

We had BP 25-year organic shingles installed in 1999. Most of our house looks fine, except for the sections with a different slope over our front porch which are curled and losing grit in heavy rainstorms. I called the roofer and found that his business had closed, but his phone number had been taken over by another roofer. This new person came to my house and told me he could represent me with BP. He took photos including inside the attic and filed a claim, but predicted that BP would question the ventilation. 3 months later we just received a settlement offer which is prorated at 52% of the cost for only those slope areas. It doesn't say anything about ventilation. While I have no issue with the concept of prorating, the problem is that the roofer says replacement shingles will not match - the color will no longer be available and even if it was, it wouldn't be evenly weathered. So he thinks I would need to replace the entire front of the house to make it look OK. That will cost a fortune and the part offered by BP will only cover a part of it. And I'm not sure how I feel about having 2 different ages of roof on my house. Or about replacing with BP products. I'm just searching the web for related information and found this site. It makes me feel frustrated but also interested in the idea of pursuing a claim. I'm going to call the claim service telephone number just to put out a feeler and start keeping scrupulous notes on every contact with BP. I live in New York State.

Looks like we are not the only ones with BP Shingles problems. We didn't find out until after the class action alwsuit was closed, that their had been one, but now closed. We just received a very generic letter saying there are many things that can cause a roof / shingles not to preform...but they are not suggesting one thing, or taking any responsibility. We saw the CBC Marketplace episode on BP Shingles, and this is the response you can get - no help. We had shingles flying off after less than 7 years, and shingles cracked vertically and horizontally. The warranty states it doesn't cover wind if the roof is exposed to wind - dah...what roof isn't. It has taken months for them to respond, leaving us with a leak over winter. We went them nearly 30 photos of in the attic and outside of roof, damage etc...I wonder if anyone even looked at them. Needless to say we will never put on another BP roof. I believe warranty also says if you replace it, it has to be replaced with their shingles! What a joke - who would do that again...

I have a modular home built in 2007. In November 2014 I filed a claim showing that the roof was leaking in several places and provided required pictures. By January 2015 it was leaking so badly I had to have the roof completely re-shingled. February 13, 2014 I received a reply denying my claim stating that the current condition of the shingles does not qualify as "damage to BP organic shingles." seventy percent of the shingles were buckled leaving a fish-mouth valley from the side of each tab where water was entering. Others had the granules removed and others were cracked and curled. one roofing contractor stated that the shingles looked to be prematurely aged and worn requiring immediate replacement. Bp had been selling Rampart organic shingles from 1985 to 2010. With so many claims they will find any excuse to deny responsibility. I doubt if the review I'm preparing will have any positive results. Really they should no longer be in business.

Wow. I just read the previous posts above. I'm in the Rigby, Idaho area and have these shingles on a home I built in 2004. Here were are 11 years later and yup, south side of the house, shingles are blowing off, the grit is falling off of shingles, the curling described by others is in full swing and I'm needing to replace my roof. This home was a "kit" I purchased from Nascor out of Alberta and was sold to me as "Canadian Quality being superior to here in the States." Not overly impressed with the so-called superiority of Canadian quality and it's not just the roof. I'm guessing I have no recourse, especially reading all of the other's experiences described here. i went through this WHOLE process jumping through every hoop bp gave me. brand new house built to code in 2006 so they could not deny efficient venting, improper installation etc. the shingles were rotting on my roof and despite that my case was closed twice for "failing to respond". i was smart enough to send all information via registered mail signed and accepted by bp canada so they had no grounds and had to re-open my case. isnt this something else? but wait, im not done! they finally denied my case stating there was nothing defective about my shingles...i appealed that decision and had a third party inspect my roof...finally some justice! i then had to argue the dimensions of my roof as they tried to short change me on the square footage. i only received 56% of the total roof in the end but at least it was something after the year of fighting with them right? the total cost of my roof was $6500, labour and material and they offered me $2311 as long as i used their shingles again. i hired a roofer of my choice (as the policy states) submitted receipts and guess what!? they DONT BELIEVE i hired a roofer despite me submitting a receipt validating i payed him! they had the nerve to ask me for PERSONAL banking information to prove i paid the roofer! i am completely fed up, i am taking action with them if i don't receive my cheque within 6 weeks. who do they think they are asking customers for their personal banking information!? i have never been so disgusted with a company in all my life and i will have them reprimanded for this process if they drag me any further into degrading me like im a nobody. the representatives laughed at me, they are like talking to the telephone scammers! DO NOT give bp a single penny of your business! i regret using their product at all but the catch is, you HAVE to make a decision on whether you are going to use their product in the beginning or not. you dont have a choice to take a cash payment halfway through the process. what a bunch of scamming figured out unethical nonsense. i will battle this to the bitter end, ombudsman is first on the list to be contacted, market place and i have already contacted my lawyer who laughed and simply said "they can't do this". i cant say it enough disgusting, disgusting, disgusting! im a year and half in at this point and they have 6 weeks to cut me my cheque so we will see! if your dealing with the typical bp garbage product rotting your roof start the process, send everything registered mail and dont give up. make them pay something for their negligence! appeal every denial and expect at least a years process but fight it to the bitter end and dont let the trained scamming representatives get the better of you. they have to lay their heads down at night and know they have no morals, i sleep well at night and so should all the victims to this defective product. bp has a court appointed obligation to reimburse for their shoddy product, they are simply using unethical bully tactics to wear customers down. MAKE them come good for it!

I am from Alberta Canada. Had Rampart shingles installed in 2000. Right from first few weeks the shingles were lifting. Before the 5 years were up had leakage in some parts of the home. Then before 15 years were up the shingles have curled and are damaged and powdering into bits. I am so frustrated and unhappy and concerned about this. I want to know what will be done by BP to rectify and compensate for the defective shingles we purchased by them.

Half of the gas pumps didnt work. People stumbling between pumps to find one working, tempreture below the freezing with wind. Noticed about the problem to employee named Eddie, asked to at least marked pumps that arent working. In response he told me to get out of there. Employee acted totally mentally unstable which is totally unacceptible when gas station also sells knifes(i dont know why), i tried to call the number on the pump to complain right away, and employee just started yelling at me to get out, writing my tag number and making some sort of phone calles. At this point i didnt feel safe around that mentally unstable individual with shelfs full of knifes. In addition to all that, i should also mention that if few pumps stop working when tempreture drops below freezing normally its a first sign of water being added to the gasoline.

Today, I was getting gas at a fuel station, and the automatic shut off did not work and spilled gasoline all over me, my car and the ground. I walked into the store and told the person working, but he acted like he didn’t know what I was talking about. I asked him several times how can I clean this up and again acted like he didn’t understand me. It was today 8-20-10 located at the BP station at 290 N Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL, United States, Its was pump number 4 using the 93 octane fuel.

BP should ST0P its TV and print advertising and pay that $$$ to the victims and states. more importantly EXcESS equipment and staff at ground zero to save the marshes. It has been 66 days and there are too many missed oppty and policy bottlenecks and inactivity BEFORE it got to this stage. The only way BP's image will improve is if they bar no cost to fix this, stop this. There is NO way that this habitat, environment, way of life, jobs, homes will be RIGHT for decades, if at all. I predict that BP will go bankrupt before they can make restitution to the Gulf Residents. It is deplorable. Stop the politicking and just DO IT. You've wasted too much time. I also vote to suspend offshore drilling permanently. Firms (and their greed, shortsightedness) and the govt oversight CANNOT BE trusted. No one has talked about the Utter wASTE of this precious resource and the price impact at the pump for generations to come.

Enough already with blaming Obama for this BP disaster. This was a man made disaster propagated by a foreign company in international waters.

The government has done about all it can to fix a problem that is huge in scope while the company trusted to be responsible is winning the pr game. This disaster will ruin fishing in the area for years.

The joke is that the conservatives are both blaiming Obama while at the same time continuing to pusg for offshore oil drilling and against developing clean energy.

Its very unpatriotic of them.
