I experienced the same thing with cash for laptops. I sent them a laptop with busted screen (which I didn't expect to get much for) and an almost perfect IPhone 4. They quoted me on the Internet for 250 for both after I told them every thing that was wrong with the stuff. First of all the prepaid postage they sent took almost two weeks to actually get back to them because of some weird postal carrier they used. I live in Arizona and they're in Nevada. I could have driven it to them myself in less time. When my package finally gets there I call them to arrange payment and discuss the inspection they conducted on my merchandise. They read off this long list of things that was supposedly wrong with my merchandise. They said my IPhone had scratches on the screen. I know this wasn't the case because the clerk put a screen protector on it when I bought it and I didn't take it off until I mailed it to cash for laptops. To make a long story short my 250 turned into 60 dollars for both. I immediately told them to mail my IPhone back. They tried to haggle with me by raising the price to 75 and offer to pay my pay-pal transaction fees. They went as far as telling me I would have to pay return shipping to get my IPhone back thinking that would make me accept their offer. I told them that was fine and I would pay it to get my phone back. The individual said my IPhone 4 depreciated in value because the IPhone 5 came out. This is a true statement. i knew the IPhone 5 was coming out and that is why i shipped my phone two weeks ago. It doesn't take 2wks for a package to go one state over. They are stupid and I'm sorry I wasted my time with them.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I agree with you COMPLETELY! They quoted my Mac Book Pro for $255 over the web and there is nothing wrong with it. I received their final price for $90. I told them to send it back to me for they have low-balling me. Never will I do business with this cashforlaptop.com again.
I found them on the internet under www.cashforiphones.com they quoted me $245.00 for my iphone 4 32gb, it was as good as new. They mailed me a pre paid shipping box with the paper work but the letter head was from www.cashforlaptops.com it made no mention of the amount we agreed on.
I sent them the phone, called them in 5 days, they said to call back in two days. I called back and was told to wait to talk to the buyer?! This man came on and told me the market value had gone down and he could only send me a check for $150.00 . Also, that the back of my iphone was scratched up (i had had it in an otter case?) i told him to send the check as i knew if i asked him to ship it back he would damage it first.
I have a lot of money saved and own my on business so i really did not need the money but thats not the point. I will make copies of the front and back of the check he sends me then cash it. Then i will contact the Nevada State District Attorney’s Office, my good old friend has retired from the FBI but he still has many contacts i will enjoy this payback a lot.
Same experience! Quoted $95 for a Dell, sent tons of emails saying they couldn't get a hold of me. I called them twice, finally told $35 because of cosmetic scratches. I blew a gasket! When I said send it back, they "negotiated" back to $80. Never recommend to anyone else.
They suck bad. They stole my sims card out of at&t iphone4. . . Warning do not do business with this garbage company. . The people that work there are losers who argue when you dont accept their ridiculous offers. . . They are thieves as a whole.
I am having the same problem. They've sent me loads of emails saying they are trying to contact me. I have in turn sent many emails with my phone number but have also suggested that they can easily just EMAIL me the quote as well - the only answer I have had back is them saying they need me to call because they need a "verbal" agreement. Personally, it is very inconvenient for me to call them (as I am away for business) and secondly, I think a written agreement over email is better anyway - I have no idea why they aren't able to do this when it clearly says on their website they will email you a quote. I sent my laptop three weeks ago and have yet to receive a quote or be paid. I have asked them to give me a quote on monday (either by calling me or emailing me) and otherwise, to send my laptop back to me immediately.
Yep. Was quoted 127 answering their questions honestly up front but they only initially offered 40. Finally got to 75 but they say all this stuff is wrong when really how does the seller really know if they are truthful? They start super low knowing eventually they will get you to sell it for less than what was quoted. This was my experience with cash for laptops. I guess the money is better than a dated piece of technology that won't be used again but it's the principal of the matter.
Would not recommend using this company.
I sent in my Blackberry Torch 9800 which was quoted $119 online -and after their 'inspection' informed me that there was excessive scratches on the phone and could only offer me $40. After the inital shock hit me - I told them that was not acceptable and to send my item back to me ASAP -as I would have never sent in any product with any type of damange -expecting money in return. The representative tried to pass me along to a supervisor - of which I have received no follow-up to date. I proceeded to immediately submit a compaint to the BBB for the quoted amount. Also FYI - no where on their site do they state that your item must be in immaculate condition to be eligible for the quoted amount. Will NEVER use them again...be advised.
Oh I am sooo angry with CashforLaptops. On the phone they low balled me for my ipod touch and iphone 3g. I still accepted the $20 each offer for the ipod touch and iphone3. But then I only got a quote for $20 total! On the phone the representative told me I was going to get $20 each! I emailed them and they said I agreed to $20 total! I was like HELL NO! Why would I let those items go for $10 each. I specifically remember the representative telling me $20 each. ###ing CashForLaptops. They rip you off. I am still fighting with them about this. I'm going to report them to the BBB and never do business with them again. They also way low balled me on my laptop too and hopefully it comes back in one piece. If not, you'll be hearing from me again. Didn't realize this is such an untrustworthy lying company until after I sent in all my stuff.
Just got off the phone with them original offer was $65, reduced to an offer of $20. Laptop doesn't work so it's still $20 more then I would have gotten if I threw it out. Still, they are VERY MISLEADING with that 'quote' that pops up when you type in your item. They told me that my mousepad was worn and the keys were a little worn, well DUH I did use it. From what I read it says cash for USED laptops. They would probably find something wrong with a brand new laptop given the chance to scam out of paying cash. I wish I saw this before I sent my laptop to them. I will not be using this company again, oh and that customer service survey is [censored]!
they have several divisions, including cash for iphones. They quoted $111 for 3GS and then low-balled to $50 due to "condition." But the condition was near perfect, because it had been replaced under warrantee a few months before family bought me 4S as gift.
Do NOT use Cash for Laptops. They quoted me 65 for my TMobile G2 that was only used for 1 year (switched to Sprint). The protective film was still on the screen and the phone was sent with it's protective cover, new sim card, sd card, charger, brand new manuals and the box. After quoting me $65, they told me the price had gone down to $21, but since mine had scratches and pitting on the battery cover, it was only worth $10. That was a lie! The phone had always been in a cover and as I said the film on the screen was never even removed. I took the plastic around the keys off a couple of weeks before changing carriers. They are a scam. Now they won't return my phone! They are rip-off artists. G2 are selling on eBay broken for $25 - $30 and mine was pristine and complete.
DO NOT SELL YOUR IPHONE TO “CASH FOR LAPTOPS”! You will be sorely disappointed. They made me an offer of $179 for my Iphone4 that was in very good condition (I rated it on their website as “good” not “excellent” condition to take into account a very minor scratch on the glass). Rather than receiving $179, they paid me $80; less than half of their initial “offer.” I will NEVER do business with “Cash for Laptops” again! I feel like they pulled a “bait and switch” on me. They lured me in with a high offer and refused to honor it. Next time I will use a more reputable company such as Gazelle. Gazelle’s offer is not as high, but they will honor it. Shame on “Cash for Laptops” for conducting business in such a despicable manner. Furthermore, they state if you return your phone within 2 business days, you’ll receive a bonus. I returned my phone within 2 business days and I didn’t receive a bonus. They will give you a $10 gift card (so they say) when you sell them a second item. I will never get the bonus because I refuse to do business with “Cash for Laptops” ever again! Again, I feel like they conducting business in an appalling manner by stating one thing and doing another.
Ditto.
I should have checked here first.
I agree. These people are so rude. They offered me $40 dollars for my ipad 3rd generation 16gb. They tried to tell me that everybody else is offering $30 dollars for it and they were doing me a favor with the $40. When i asked then to send me my device back they refused several times. I called 3 different times and they were rude in the phone and tried to tell me they were helping me. Please stay away from this company.
I agree with the above complaints. I was quoted $150 but then offered $50 once they received my device. I asked for a return, they put me on hold while they 'talked to a manager' and then offered $75. I again refused, again was put on hold, they upped their offer to $115 and I accepted because I wanted to avoid the hassle of returns. I think this is their model of operation - a classic bait and switch.
It is very clear, this company's tactics are to offer you a high price for your device so you send it fast hoping for a good payday, but as soon as they get their filthy hands on that device their game starts and the customer suddenly is at a disadvantage, so he/she will agree to a much lower price to finish the deal and not lose the whole thing all together. I am sorry I dealt with this company and I hope others read these reviews before falling in to the same trap like I did.
Too Late for me! I hope its not too late for you! Do not do business with CASHFORLAPTOPS. On June 16th I came across the website and I was thrilled to see a company that will give you cash for a used phone. Im going through Financial Hardships and I thought sailing my unused iphone 4s would stimulate my pockets. I got a quote for $107.00 because the screen was damaged. They immediately sent emails reminding me to HURRY and RUSH my device off to them. They even told me in an email that I will receive a gift if I sent it immediately. That bothered me a little. I thought to myself, "What's the rush?". Nonetheless I shipped it off on the 20th of June not really caring about a bonus gift. All of a sudden the emails stopped. It is now Friday the 27th and I haven't heard from CASHFORLAPTOPS. I e-mailed the company and the replied with a message that I already read last week! That was the Biggest RED FLAG! I decided to do some research and found this website. SMH. i SHOULD OF CAME HERE FIRST. I still have no idea whats gonna happen to my order, but I will be calling them tomorrow.
Looks like I'm the latest to fall for the cashforlaptops.com scam. Sent in my functioning Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB phone that had some minor chips on the bottom corner (no scratches on face, phone functioned perfectly). Receieved a quote of $163 for my phone. When they recieved my phone, they inspected it, then paid $25 through PayPal with no comments other than an email stating that the phone would be inspected. I cancelled the credit from them on PayPal and have asked for my phone back over email and every phone number that these scammers have. How long does it take for the FTC to shut down an scam website? Please do not use cashforlaptops.com and if you feel that you have been scammed, follow Damian's instructions above to file an FTC complaint.
Had two I-phone 5's on sprint. Quoted 215.00 for one and 216.00 for the second one. First phone they called and offered 100.00. Second phone no phone call and just sent a check for 33.00. Both phones in good condition no issues.
They they tried to give me $28 for my iPad 2 in perfect condition, after offering me $173. when I told them to send it back they told me the money was already in my hands. I told them I'm sending the money back to them so they offered another $102. Do not deal with them. All the comments above are very very true. How do they even stay in business?
I sent in my sony vaio they quoted me $215 i got $34 i have emailed and tried to call them but to no avail they still wouldnt give me a logical explaination. . . For it how pathetic people should hold up their end of the deal. . What a scam i wouldnt recommend them to my worst enemy
A quote from them is useless. They never pay what they say is the quote. I had a Iphone 4S 64 and they first sent me $23.00 and when i complained they sent me another $57.00. I took a video of my phone and pictures and there were no scratches and they said my button for turning my phone on was messed up. The phone was in an Otto box for 2 years. I could have gotten more if I had sold it on EBay! I have download the complaint form for the Nevada Attorney General and am filing a complaint with then and the BBB & FTC. I know I won't get any more money but it is the principle of the thing. I want people to really know what a scam they are.
I should have checked here first! I got full $10 for my iPhone which they quoted me $143!
Their number doesn't work either. THIS IS A SCAM COMPANY! I will report them to BBB
This company buys used iPhones and other electronics. I had an iPhone 5s that was in excellent (almost new) conditio. I priced the iPhone on the company's website and they quoted me $143 and emailed me a letter stating the same.
After I sent in the phone I received a check for $11.
I called in to see why I was getting paid $11 when the website stated $143. The representative informed me that the phone was scratched. When I asked for them to return my iPhone they said that that they cannot return phones.
When asked why I was not informed that my payment was going to be $11 and not $143 as promised, the response was that they keep financial information private and do not share over email. However, they openly shared $143 as the amount they were going to pay me for the phone on email.
Typical bait and switch.
Total ripoff, gave me $15 when quoted $93 for iphone 4 in excellent condition, criminal organization. Don't bother calling their phone, you will listen to 4 songs over and over until the cows come home. Stay away! They su_ck!
Because of my terrible experience with cashforlaptops.com - I am posting to warn others. If you are on this page, you are probably trying to figure out whether this company is a fraud, a scam, a rip off. I wish that I would have done a more extensive search on this company before I sent them my device. Here's the deal: on their web site, they say great process, quick money, and guaranteed satisfaction. They claim to be an enthusiastic green company trying to make the world a better place...I received a quote for a little over $200 on my device. I thought because the device was barely used, in great shape, that this was a good deal. When I clicked on the button to receive the shipping information, a contract popped up - and it said that if this company decides upon inspection that the device is worth less to them than the original quote, they will contact the seller, discuss and negotiate the new price...This is slightly important, they say that if they pay you what they quoted, it's a done deal, they just send you the check, but anything lower, they contact you. The minute, I clicked the button to proceed, I started getting communication via text and email saying I would get a gift if I sent the device within the next five days...and hurry so that we can send you your money type of comments...This was fine except that after I sent the device in, all communication went dark. When I contacted them a week later, it took a few days, but someone replied in a generic email that said sorry you have to wait, be patient. When i called to ask about their "quick and good service", I found myself waiting for an hour on their support number before surrendering and using an option to leave a message. I kept trying through email and phone calls to get status. As I started to research the company as a fraud, I started to read about my own experience, no communication, them not doing what they tell customers that they are going to do, and I ended up contacting the BBB because I could not get a return call or when they responded to emails, they didn't respond to answer any of the questions, it was generic, form content designed to keep the customer waiting. I got frustrated and said, look, just send me back my device because I didn't sign up for a bunch of BS. Suddenly, I received an email saying that good news, my check was on the way. I had to wait six days. I asked them how much the check was for, but I couldn't get that info...when the check arrived it was for $31. Instead of calling me, they sent a check that was an insult. Another thing was I brought my device to Apple to make sure I wiped the memory clean and Apple told me the device was in next to near condition. One of cashforlaptops methods of operation is to send the check for a much lower amount and then try to bully people into just taking the money. They will tell you that on evaluation, they found problems with your device...I had been sending this company emails saying that if they didn't pay the original amount, I just want my device back and I would sell it on my own, but there was no way that I wanted to sell the device to them at that point. On their side, they wrote on the BBB complaint that they had issued me another check. Again, they wouldn't tell me the amount at first, and I had to wait again several days...So a second check shows up without any note or comments as to whether it replaced the previous check or what. The second check was for $150 which told me that this company just wants the BBB complaint to go away. My mindset was to reject the $181 amount and say just send me back the device or the $202 quoted, but at that point, I was so tired of dealing with them that I just cashed the two checks...My assumption is not everyone is as diligent and they wear you down. I was skeptical that they even had my device, and again, at the end of the day, the time that I spent with BBB and sending them emails, and calling them and leaving them messages, and letting them know that I wasn't just going to go away, so, yes, I accepted their offer and got a decent amount for my device, but I would never do business with these creeps again. They are very unprofessional. The one time that I did talk to a live person, I asked why they would state all these positive things about their process and communication when they know that it's not true...the individual on the other end of the phone stuck to his script of responses. Fraud, corrupt, not doing something positive for the environment...Stay away from these guys.
do not i repeat do not deal with this company sent a almost like brand new apple i pad 1st gen and was quoted 93 dollars got the check it was for 13 dollars tried contacting them several times no luck
all coments are true4 definatly a rip off
I wish I would have read this site before I sent in my I Pad. I was quoted 93.00 and they paid me 7.00. I call and told them to send me it back.I was told it was past the 3 days and could not send it to me. 23rd to the 26th is days in my head but not theirs. When I told them I was going to report them for stealing they up the offer to $20.00. Try telling me my WIFF did not work but that is all I used on it. I never saw it in PayPal account because I was not looking for 7.00 to open. I learned a hard lesson. NEVER TRUST SITE LIKE THIS!
My story is very much like everyone's on this site. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE! They quoted my iphone5 as being worth 220.00 and sent me a check for 16.00. When I finally got to speak to "customer service, " I got them up to 50.00 and that was it. They said the phone had excessive wear and tear (it was 6 months old) and an itune lock made it nearly worthless. What a SCAM! I'll be filing complaints with the proper authorities.
DO NOT SEND YOUR DEVICES TO CASH FOR LAPTOPS! I wish I had come across this message board before I decided to give this fraudulent company a try. I was quoted nearly $400 for my 32gig iPhone 5 along with a 16gig iPhone 4s. First of all, it took too long for my devices to reach their destination. I subsequently learned that Cash For Laptops uses some 3rd rate delivery company. This was the first warning sign. After Cash For Laptops received my phones, it would be 5 days before any correspondence was made by email to me. They never contacted my with a final quote. The next thing I received was an email from Paypal that $30 was deposited into my account--that's right, $30! This is for a 32gig iPhone 5 and a 16gig iPhone 4s. What a joke. I immediately started calling Cash for Laptops--it literally took an entire work day to actually reach someone. When I finally got through to a live person, I was livid. She tried to explain why the quote was lowered with bogus details about the condition of the phones. She was referencing things like "pink" water damage in the headphone jack and "swirls" on the home button! It was interesting how she kept referring to the 4s but never my 32gig iPhone 5. With one last ditch effort, she upped the offer $80. I was not hearing any of it. She then tried to explain that it was my responsibility to call them for the final quote! That's when I cut her off completely & demanded that my devices be returned and I returned their insulting $30. Bottom line is that if your reading this and are considering dealing with Cash for Laptops DO NOT DO IT! And if you, like me, have already made the mistake of dealing with these crooks, call, call, and call again until you get through. And once you get through to someone, do not let them talk! Do not settle for sending them an email. I sent three emails that were blatantly ignored! Demand what's rightfully yours. Get your device back from them and do not pay shipping! I still can't believe what they tried to do--$30 for an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4s in great condition. This company makes a lot of money on the hope that after all the shipping process and waiting time, the client will forget about things and give up when trying to get information. Do not be a victim.
Who wish I would of read this prio to sending my Iphone to them. T quoted my 150 go 11 lost dollars with never accepted that. Have emailed several times for my phone back with no response.
This company is a scam and screws people over by giving them nothing to what is quoted. Do not be hoax with this company. They gave me $12 after quoting me $157 for my Iphone 4.
ONE THOUSAND PERCENT TRUE! What everyone says here is TRUE! Just sent these SCAM ARTISTS my second generation iPad in PERFECT physical AND working condition - was quoted $164 and they sent me $12. I called upwards of 15 times a day for two days - never got through. Emailed - someone would email back saying they're sorry that I wasn't happy with my offer of $12, but that I needed to call to let them know by that method. What legit biz operates this way? NONE. When I demanded via email again that they return my iPad and that someone CALL ME back (because no one ever answered in FOUR straight days of calling!), I got crickets.
********THIS COMPANY IS FRAUDULENT.*********
I reported them to PayPal (who says they will investigate them and if found to be fraudulent, will yank their PayPal account). I will also be reporting them to the appropriate authorities and posting warnings like this anywhere cashforlaptops is mentioned. These people need to be shut down!
All of the above comments I am sure are correct. To put it bluntly my feeling is they are operating outside the law and I do not understand why the Nevada Attorney General does not investigate .
I sent them an iphone5 that was in good working condition when it was mailed to them.
Received an email from them letting me know they had received device and they would get back to me.
The next email I received was that they had credited my paypal account with payment, well guess what? the payment was for $20.00.
Should have been for $267.00. Sent payment back and emailed Laptops to return iPhone. No response from them of course.
When speaking to them on Phone they informed they had recycled iPhone because it was no good. Said terms and conditions were that I had 3 days to accept an offer or reject it. I never received an offer and was not aware of any terms and conditions. By law you must be made aware of any terms and conditions pertaining to Business Transactions and I was not.
I sent them an iPhone 5 BRAND NEW in the plastic unlocked.they quoted 223 on line. When they received they send you a note saying its worth 37 - ridiculous. I have sent them 5 emails and called multiple times a day. Most of the time they disconnect you. i have reached a person 2 times who said i had to go to the "purchasing department" he transfers you and then it rings busy and disconnects.
This is a tremendous scam. They advertise " Excellent customer service" - false advertising. They are stealing peoples property. I have reported them the the Nevada BBB. Everyone needs to report them and we need to start a class action suit against them.
This company is a complete SCAM! I was quoted over $850 for an IPhone 5s and 4 IPhone 5c's all about 5 months old and in excellent condition. They inspected them and emailed me back an offer of $120 total. What? They said they replaced the digitizer on one and the rest had surface scratches. Bull! I asked for my phones to be returned..she then offered to raise the total to $320. I said no thanks and that id like to speak to someone higher than her..of corse the woman I was speaking to was a supervisor and there was nobody higher than her. LOL! What a joke. I have placed over 30 calls to them and either they disconnect me or flat out hang up on me! I will not give up!
they are the worst...DO NOT trust them and never deal with them, they simply are cheaters, never respect their customers...they are horrible
I agree with all of you guys, I'll share my pain with you. I quoted an iPhone 4S for $87, guess how much I received? $7. Yes $7 miserable bucks, I can't even have a decent lunch with that. When I called I was able to raise the offer to $20, and of course, when I asked to return my phone back to me, they said guess what? "Oh, sorry your phone is already processed, there is nothing I can do" and then they said, You should have read the Terms and Conditions, Ok, shame on me for that, but what they don't tell you is that once they evaluate the phone, they will not let you decide if you want to continue with the process, is basically a take it or leave it situation. One last thing, for you Melanie at customer service or purchasing or what ever your department is, just in case you haven't noticed, your company steals from people, that is WRONG, may be you mother never told you that to steal is BAD. You should be ashamed, but you know what? I hope you quit this job soon and get a decent one.
Just had the same experience with these guys and sad thing about it is that they use to be a good a reliable company. I sent countless computer equipment before in the past and got fair value for all. All sudden this year they have screw me over. Got quoted a laptop for $320. Perfect working condition laptop and received $25 for it. Ask for a return of my laptop and said that equipment was already process and the only they could do is offer me an additional $35. Their term and condition clearly says
"Should we, upon inspection of your device, decide to quote you a lower price than originally initially quoted, we will email you notice of such amount and you will have three (3) days to either accept or reject that new lower price. The three days begins upon inspection of your device and our emailing you notice of intended payment either pursuant to the original initial quote or such value as we determine in our sole discretion. If you reject any subsequent quote prior to the elapsing of this three-day period, we will return your device to you within five days thereafter."
I will be filing a report to the BBB today!
