Stolen money
I had a life insurance policy on my mother which I unfortunately had to collect on due to losing my mother on 2/1/14. John Hancock had the policy and paid the claim. While the policy was in place, I didn't want to receive dividends and had JH roll them into the policy. They did something to give shares to customers and Manulife Financial along with Computershare handles all the stocks. I received a letter stating that if the acct was not active, they would turn the monies over to the state or whoever. I called to make sure they knew I was active, but found out they have been deducting money for taxes to send to the IRS. The problem with that is they DO NOT have my Social Security number or my mother's on file. They have been sending money to the IRS under what #? I asked and they could not answer me due to the fact that I was talking to Manila. The overseas office could not answer any questions, They told me to file with the IRS for tax credits? How do I do that without telling the IRS the ss# acct it went to? I have filed complaints with the BBB and Mass State AG's office. These companies are ripping people off of their money and no one seems to care. Stay far away from these companies as they have so many complaints against them. I will keep chasing my money but I'm dealing with overseas customer service people. You have been warned!
Vodafone shares
Computershare look after share-dealing of ordinary shareholders in Vodafone. Vodafone recently carried out a 'Return of Value' to shareholders following the sale of their 45% stake in Verizon USA. Shareholders were asked to elect to receive their 'windfall' as income or capital, where income would be taxable while capital would not (for the vast majority of shareholders). A 'Form of Election' was to be sent to Computershare before Feb 20th 2014.
I and many others mailed our form well before the deadline to be told by Computershare that they either didn't receive the forms or the forms arrived late. This leaves us liable to an income tax bill (in my case almost €1000). This is crazy as my form was mailed 11 days before the deadline. I wonder if Computershare simply didn't have the manpower to deal with the 380, 000 Irish shareholders and took the simple way out of saying that they never received the forms? A collective revolt needs to be coordinated by a financial regulator or by some good business journalist?
Transfers
Terrible service! It has taken over 8 days to transfer stock shares from Computershare to my broker and they are still not in my account. Good luck getting a hold of a service agent because they are all in Bangladesh. If you do get to an agent, they just read from a script apologizing for the delay but never actually looking at your account and trying to help.
Never again!

Dear
Thank you for your
email of 5th August. I have enclosed further proof of
Identity and ownership of the Dr Pepper Snapple stock as requested.
Please note that my address is as it appears on all my
documentation. Please will you amend your system. I have received
several communications from Computershare with my home address
clearly printed on the Dr Pepper Snapple Group Transaction Advice.
This would indicate that Computershare are responceable for
maladministration this is an issue for the SEC. However this is not
an issue or complaint of The State of Delaware Department of
Unclaimed Property you are reacting to incorrect in formation suppled
by Computershare. I have lost at conservative estimate $7000 based
on the increase in the stock price of DPS since February 2014 when
the stock was sold by the Unclaimed Property Office plus costs
involved in providing noterised copies of documentation.
Yours faithfully

Bad website portal and support
ComputerShare & Support & Website Portal problems:
There is no excuse for a company (that deals in financials/banks/etc) to have such a pitifully broken website in 2013. Are they broke?!? – can’t they update it? The email/phone support is so inept that you’re better off threatening them with a lawsuit/BBB/SEC complaint in very first email to get anything accomplished. Last time I tried to use their phone support I had to hang up because I could not understand the woman (heavy foreign accent/language).
I have went back and forth with their 'support' many times in an email exchanges regarding purchases made under my login not appearing under my login (among other problems). They always want to accuse you of doing something wrong when in fact it's their shoddy system. There are no order numbers to associate your purchase/pending/etc. Nothing. A confirmation number is all you get when you setup a new stock and that number did not help at all when dealing with their support.
I own a number of stocks through them and whenever I have made a new purchase (brand new stock) they're system does not associate the given purchase to your current login. They told me in 2nd or 3rd email that I would have to create a new login! I had warned them in my final (4th attempt to resolve) email that I would file a complaint. It took 4 attempts to get them to actually read my concise email and somewhat understand it. In the final email response I was accused of thinking they were a brokerage! Well, for all intents and purposes re: individual purchases they ARE a brokerage in that they are a transfer agent for the company and you (are forced to) buy through them. As far as I am concerned then, they act like a broker in this regard.
They actually fixed the problem regarding my new company/stock purchase after this last email, but they didn’t say that - they said I had to call them. They said it was my fault the stock wasn’t under my login – but fixed it when I just checked yesterday. Hmm.
Does this give you the impression that they are going to fix it? :
“Computershare is a transfer agent; not a brokerage. As such, each stock that you own will be held in a separate account. While you may access all of the accounts that are registered under the same registration and Social Security Number under the same User ID, if you wish to hold all of your shares in one account, you will need to move all of your holdings to a brokerage.”
So you do not want my business and cannot (do not) want to fix my problem? That’s the impression the email left with me.
Yes, a “separate account” for each company. I understand that. But, this should not/does not mean your actual ComputerShare login. (Or shouldn’t.) They control the web gui access to all accounts. All stocks for an individual should be associated under one point of contact/login – anything else simply makes no sense or logic. They consistently give nonsensical, illogical responses and make accusations as I mentioned. They are never at fault.
I understand this is not a site for trading (as many brokerage sites are). It is to hold stock for a LONG term/investment. My problem with them is that their “support” (if you could call it that) is one of worst experiences I have had in a long time, and that the site looks like it was designed in 1999 and never updated. Remember this is a financial site that deals with secure bank transfers/etc. But, it’s a pitiful ASP/ASPX system that is constantly going haywire when it finally logs you in. For example, if you let it sit online / logged in, it will notify you that session will be ending. Well, the session already ends long before this timeout happens and you literally have to close all browser windows/tabs to log back in. The CSS/styles will disappear and be a dead giveaway if this happens to you. (This is just one example of the ineptness of site). Maybe because I do not use Internet Explorer (ASP)? HA. Yep, and it’s not 1999.
Beware of this site and the email ‘support’ = ({stockname}@computershare.com) and/or (‘Ask Penny’ link) = (SO STUPID and such a complete waste of your time that it goes beyond words), but also know that it isn't scam. It’s just a test in frustration/patience. I almost wish it was a scam so they had a better excuse for the ineptness of the organization and their online presence.
As a sole transfer agent for tons of companies, they pretty much have a monopoly on direct stock purchases (now – they bought BNY Mellon). Something to bear in mind as well..
I get so frustrated with the website, its like they are trying to put me off investing! I wish I had to only wait for 24 hours, I have to wait 5 days! - agghhh!
Two years after this complaint and the Australian web site remains the worst online experience I've had. This time I've been bumped off for 24 hours because I've made a mistake in entering "pet, breed, colour". That's 28 characters of blind typing. Did I make a typo? Are commas required? Is my pet brown or golden? No options - just f--k off for 24hrs and try again.
Computershare spread their incompetence around the globe. Here in Australia their website is just as pathetic. The login requirements are ridiculous, when you ring them the chick on the phone thinks its all a big joke. Useless company.
Horrible experience
My company used Computershare to award long term and short term bonus options and stock. Computershare has been difficult to deal with from day one. They did an upgrade on their software and now you can't access their site from a MAC. I am not a MAC fan, but really! It has not been corrected for over 90 days and nothing on the web site informs you of this, you have to call in, sit on hold for a long time for them to explain this. Now today I have been trying to sell my shares for more than 2 hours...I have a simple question and the only live body I can get to answer the phone is to help me log into the site, which I can do, I just need some kind of special code to actually sell shares. I have not been happy with this site since the company converted to them two years ago and every experience makes me dread when I have to do business with them. I would not even give this company one star. Even the way they dispaly informaiton is confusing.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I was going to set up an on line account, but have to enter my social security number. I don't want to do that because this all seems illegitimate to me. Did you ever provide your son? I think you are getting ripped off, too. There must be some legal agency that can help with this because it sure sounds illegal. Good luck and please update if anything changes.
This has got to be the worse site in the whole world of legality. They make it where you can't contact anyone but an automated dummy called Penny who can't answer any specific questions that you have. When you call one of the numbers to speak with a real person, they're totally rude and make you feel like you don't Know what you're talking about. For one, the website don't promise what it says. In the drop down box for transfers, all the choices that should have been in the drop down box wasn't there. We've been dealing with this company with no positive results for months now and we wish there was someone that we could contact to help us with trying to get my shares transferred to another company of our choice. We're in the process of getting refinanced but hit every roadblock with this company. Now as our refunds are getting depleted, and time are running out on us getting our loan paid off, we're still not being taken care of. Because during our last move, I misplaced my original common stock certificate and now Computershare wants me to pay money for a lost affidavit app + almost $2500.00 for a bond surety or as they stated 3% of my shares. Is this even legal? I think I'm getting ripped off and I have no one to help me fight this company. This has been and still is a nightmare for me. Someone please help me or respond to this.
Customer service
I was participating in a direct stock purchase plan. The transfer agent had been changed from Mellon to Computershare (as another person has stated, without notification). Accessing funds through Mellon was a breeze - easy, straightforward and quick, and never any need to follow up. In other words, professional. I am now two weeks and three follow-up calls into trying to sell the shares in this plan. My hunch is this runaround is deliberate and calculated.
Worst website
This is one of the website I have seen with total broken functionality. Even sites from third world countries were automated well. This one doesn't send text message from their site. I am waiting for an SMS for days. You get instant phone confirmation from other sites from 100s of countries. The company have weird policies. If you are outside of the country, you cannot make a transaction easily. Two weeks you can only do less than 5k transaction if you do an address change. Then they use only snail mail. No FEDEX, No electronic information exchange. SO PREHISTORIC. I have no clue why big companies have this company for their stock transaction esp. when you have companies such as etrade, Ameritrade or so many online trading companies. COMPUTERSHARE SUCKS TO THE CORE.
I could not agree more. Their web site is very frustrating to use. They make it so difficult for customers to get help. I can sign in from home but not from work. They sent me a password reset but there is a 20 minute lapse before it will work and I won't be here then. When I enter my social security number into their phone system they list a stock that I do not own, and when I told the customer service representative about it she said I need to write a letter to have it corrected.
Very True. The customer service of Computershare is even worse.
Stole my stocks!
The stock shares I owned in a couple companies changed over to Computershare as their transfer agent, I was unaware---they never sent me correspondence saying they were taking over and when I called Computershare about my stock holdings (I even had paper certificates in my hand and gave them the certificate numbers) they claimed they had no record of me, my...

Stole money
I bought stock in several companies using computershare last year (2010) one in which was the Coca Cola Company. I set up to do the automatic withdrawal of $50.00 from my account. Around Feb. I called and requested that they stop the automatic withdrawal from my account and they agree that they would. They informed me that one more debit my come out of my account but no more. Two months later I noticed that more money was being drawn out of my account and I called computershare to stop the withdrawal and they told me that they saw it however they did know why the automatic withdrawal did not stop coming out of my account but they would be more than happy to stop the automatic withdrawal. Fast forward to two weeks ago, I got a call from my bank letting me know that I have been overdrawn due to computershare taken money out of my account for the Coca Cola Company. I was downright upset. I called them and they informed me that they have no such records of taking my money from my account. I had a bank statement next to me and I told them I am looking at the charges now. They have lost (not accounting for) $550.00 of my money. I will only give two weeks to give my money back or I will be explaining this to a judge (I have all of my documents Thank God). If you read this please heed my story.

Seems like a scam
I was interested in buying stock in a public company and the company's website referred me to Computershare. I visited Computershare's site but noticed the lack of live contact ability. There was an address in Canton MA and (I think) one in RI. I started to go through the on line purchase process but then backed out as I realised I didn't know anything about this outfit. I did a Google and Yahoo search and nothing substantial came up. Also searched under Consumer reviews and only found this Complaints Board site. Asked around the office and no-one had heard of them. I saw nothing on their site, anywhere, documenting how a person's online purchase of stock with them would be documented and recorded. I emailed Computershare twice asking for someone to contact me to verify who they are and to provide some evidence of a non-Enron/Madoff/Fannie Mae profile. I have never heard a thing. Now I suspect that this outfit is tied in to DC and a bunch of corrupt politicans who are keeping them afloat because if they were truly market based they'd be more responsive and interested in new business. This one doesn't pass the sniff test and I'm staying clear of it.

Computershare is awful! I didn’t choose them, I somehow got stuck with them, when stock option was a portion of my salary. But, they are absolute slime bags and definitely have the rudest customer service chick that I’ve ever dealt with. Recently, they gave my shares to the state of Illinois, for inactivity!?! Wtf kind of activity were they expecting on shares of stock that have done very little in the past 20 years? Besides that, I filled out their form back in December letting them know that I’m alive, because they needed to know that for some reason! So, I then assumed that since I’ve still been receiving statements since December, that we were all good. NOPE! They gave all of my shares away to the State of Illinois! Never sent me a text, no email, no phone call, no certified letter stating that they were making a financial decision without my approval! And, they have all of my personal information, so there is NO excuse! I haven’t moved in over 22 years, I’m only 55, I’m not dead and I have family… and these boneheads took my personal investment and gave it away to the State of Illinois! Wtf?
I am beyond P—ed Off!
Beware of this shady company!
Call Morgan Stanley or anybody else! But run, don’t walk, away from Computershare!
And, send multiple letters of complaint to the McDonalds board members or whatever corporate board that your stock being held by Computershare is from, so they know what this crooked firm is doing to their share holders!
My mother died 3 years ago and was unable to find the certificates for her shares. 3 years of unreasonable time frames and arbitrary documentation and new same documentation with new dates on them I have quit trying. I will seek help from the State and Fraud services. If you buy from them be very weary.
I cannot express how much I hate Computershare.
I had BlackBerry shares when I was employee there, and I've been trying for months to sell them. (I have been trying to sell them for 8 months now.) They started by requiring me to get a "Medallion Seal" on my paperwork which require me to send a bunch of paperwork to my bank, back to me, then to them. I waited for weeks for a response, and heard silence. When I followed up, they then tell me that it was sent to the wrong place and they don't have my paperwork anymore so I needed to start over. If they knew it was sent to the wrong place, they must have gotten it. Customer service? I think their model is screw the customer, since they could have kept it, they could have forwarded it yourself, they could have notified me. Anything really except sit on their hands and throw the paperwork in the trash.
I have been trying over and over to get my shares out, and complicating that is that they seem to require physical paper copies for everything. At every step of the process, they either tell me "wrong" information, send me to the wrong department, or find another reason to refuse to get my shares out. At one point they told me that I wasn't allowed to get out my shares by myself and then subsequently they told my financial agent that they couldn't release the shares to them because I haven't given an approval for the release. [censored].
Needless to say in all the back and forth, the stock continues to drop. They're costing me money every day by being completely incompetent or outright crooks - I can't tell which. Probably both. I'm working with my agent and they cannot believe it either. I think their primary function is to keep shares until their "customers" give up and they profit.
I will avoid this company at all costs. I will tell as many people to avoid this company as I can. I will refuse to get stock from any company that uses them as their holding agent. It would not surprise me at all to find out that they are a sham company who's main purpose is money laundering and/or that they have an inside man at the SEC that is preventing them from being investigated.
Absolutely a horrible company, the worst I have ever dealt with. The criteria for working there must be to be rude and unfeeling when you are going through death and distribution of funds. They are most unfeeling and unhelpful. Fortunately Family and Friends and friends of friends and their friends will not be affected as I will make it a point of telling every person I meet of this terrible experience. MAKE NO INVESTMENTS WITH THIS COMPANY!
I needed to get unclaimed funds put in my that were issued to a deceased relative. In calling the company to get a name change on unclaimed money the automatic system would not give an option to get the check changed into another name and would not give an option to speak to a real person. I sent documentation to the ComputerShare that would officially confirm the name change was legitimate after choosing to reissue the check through the automated system. The check arrived with 5-7 business days in which I returned it with the cover letter from the documentation and received a check in the correct name with 5-7 business days. I read ComputerShare reviews and found most were unfavorable reviews but my experience has been favorable with the quick response to the issue.
I ended up with Computershare when AT&T and Baby Bells ended with them. Computershare is not quite a scam and I emphasize "not quite". It took the SEC over a year to get my shares in several companies transferred away from them. Part of the problem is that they have multiple offices and it is a major problem getting the correct office to do the correct thing. Moreover, they charge for everything imaginable, stuff a normal brokerage or transfer agency would not have the chutzpah to charge for. Add to your grief is their questionable customer service. This can result in many thousands of dollars in fees and hundreds of dollars in postage and hundreds of hours in writing correspondence to get your stocks out of their hands. If I there was a grade below F, they earned that grade when I used them. Although the behavior of Computershare is not illegal, my advice would be transfer everything to Charles Schwab or TD Ameritrade.
My husband and I have spent months attempting to get funds held at Computershare.
The have done nothing but give us the runaround with one excuse after another as to why they won't provide the funds.
The customer service is beyond horrible and they seem to be a company that exists for the sole purpose of scamming people out of what is rightfully theirs.
ComputerShare is now in the trust business, in that they handle personal trust accounts. However, in my experience, they are most incompetent trust company I have ever dealt with. Our former trust company got out of the business and recommended that we transfer the handling of our investment shares to Computershare. This outfit offered the first year free of charges, so we went along with that. Big Mistake! They can't get anything right.
It has been 6 months now and they still can't figure out how to distribute our funds on a monthly basis even though we have sent in multiple documents and had many phone calls trying to get it straight. Initially they couldn't find a consistent date by which to forward those monthly payments. We never knew when they were going to arrive. Even though we agreed on a specific date, we were pretty much guaranteed that they would always be late.
And now it becomes almost impossible to get into my own account online to see what we hold in our various accounts. For some reason the ID number is never the same each time. So once again I can't get at my account and I have to wait until after the weekend to talk to any body about that. In my experience, that alone may take a couple of weeks.
Frustrating operation, this ComputerShare.
They are slow to respond unless you have an account number. K finally got my number and after weeks I got a check under Principal, bought a car, wrote the check only to have it returned. I will be at the bank tomorrow to find out why. 2-25-18
Did you mange to get your issue resolved?
ComputerShare is a scam. They starting charging me an annual maintenance fee, so I moved the shares to a broker. The transfer had a cost and disposing of the fractional shares had a cost. I ended up paying over $100 just to get the shares transferred. If I would have liquidated the shares, it would have cost even more. It also took several calls to make it happen. Their system is unstable and they are a scam company. Avoid!
