Ram,
Citizen called about a concern with the train crossing on West Main Street.
He said he was crossing the tracks slowly Sunday (2/12/17) around 6:30pm when he heard the train blast its horn.
At that point, the crossing lights had not flashed and the crossing arms had not come down.
Caller stated that the train turned its head light on about the time it began blowing the horn.
At that point, caller moved quickly to cross the tracks and noted that when the train was actually in the crossing,
the crossing lights flashed and crossing arms let down.

complaint is in reference to train blocking tracks for over 45 min.
CSX Is not a government entity. To block a main transportation route for that length of time is uncalled for. CSX does not have any special privileges according to any DOT OR Government adenduims.. the delay occurs in the middle of the morning rush hour traffic at Us Hwy 41 and Causway blvd in Tampa Florida.

loud horns in residential areas
Hi, this CSX train runs through downtown Clearwater, there are many residences along the route, the area that I live in is between druid and Turner Street and just in that area alone there are several apartments houses and condominiums . The CSX train comes by at 8:30 in the morning or earlier and it lays on the horn so loud that if I even put a helmet on my head I would clearly hear the sound through it, for those of us who work night shifts this is very disturbing and for those of us who have children this is also very disturbing . Nothing will block out the sound because the sound is so incredibly loud that it will pull you out of a deep sleep and ruin your sleep for the day . I do not believe that this horn level should be allowed during the residential areas of town, other precautions should be made and I think it is unnecessary for Ahorn to be honked several times at each intersection near homes where people are living and sleeping, I think this should be solved and I'm actually very shocked that this is not been handled by the city Council or local city governments . Taxpaying citizens should not have to endure these types of interruptions in their own home .
I understand it is the law but it's a stupid law and one that affects tax paying citizens for a company who is making money using these tracks. Each intersections has bells and bars that descend when the train is approaching, the horns are overkill and should be reduced by at least 50% in volume, the volume is absurdly loud, probably 75% louder than any car horn on the road and at 7am and 1am when no on is present they are not needed at all. The law should be reevaluated and based on logical observable conclusions and not a blanket law for all areas at all times of the day. I would say one horn honk per intersection in addition to the bells and lowering bars would suffice and have that horns volume greatly reduced in areas where homes and condo's are located directly next to the tracks.
I live in downtown Nashville, TN in East Nashville to be exact. This morning at 6am, I was woken up by no less than a dozen horn blasts. Was the train running at such a high rate of speed that they needed to warn people withs many blasts of the horn?
Sounding the horn is fine. I live in Natural Bridge station and it goes beyond that. The horn is repetively tooted in 1 second intervals the whole way through as far as you can hear it. This just started several weeks ago and you can tell it is being done out of spite. One or two horn blasts is more than enough to hear a mile away. I've recorded it and am ready to go to the town council and the news because it's only done late at night when everything is quiet and you can hear the train coming and don't need a horn to tell you that. I want a solids night sleep please. This is our homes you are blasting with this noise.
you are more likely to give old folks a heart attack from sleep deprivation than you are to run someone over who didn't see both the lights and the sound that occurs at the tracks
Hi Deanna,
I understand your frustration, but the engineer is required to blow the horn at all public road crossings, by federal law, and would be civilly and CRIMINALLY liable if the train struck a person or vehicle and he/she didn't blow for the crossing. The location, number of horn blasts, and the length of the horn blasts are mandatory. The engineer doesn't have a choice.
There is an exception, and, this is something you may want to pursue with your town- Local/town ordinances can exempt a particular public crossing from having the train horn blown when the train crosses them. This does not apply to emergency situations, like if a person or vehicle was on/near the tracks, but would apply at all other times.
If enough of your neighbors/townfolk are bothered by it, you may be able to have your town pass an ordinance that exempts the crossing(s).
Understand that no-horn crossings are significantly more dangerous, but that is something you and you neighbors would have to weigh against quality of life and your peace and quiet.
hazardous driving
Driver of csx truck almost ran into our fairfield transit bus on hwy 80, at approx. 2 pm on mon. July 6, 2015, between 80 and 12 which is where he then turned off. . Our driver had to honk several times in a quick manner as the csx driver was veering into our lane. As our bus got closer, our passengers noticed that the csx driver was texting while driving and continued to do so after almost causing an acident where there surely would have been injuries or deaths caused by him. As we passed him, he was still texting. This person needs to be fired if he does not know or adhere to the law - no texting while driving.
speed
Our family lives in the hamlet of Jamesville, NY
The CSX Railroad runs through Siawassia St at a speed so fast, I'm sure it's illegal. What is the speed zone, through a residential area? I can't believe there are no restrictions, or limits. Please investigate and respond to

bad service
Purchased a well water system that does not work for water issues I have from CSX Corp. Called them a month after it was installed and told them it was not clearing up my iron in my water. They came several times to try to clear up my water issues and got no results.
constant blowing horns
Constantly blowing horn all during the night. Some people work during the day you know. this problem keeps my children awake all night as well as the rest of us. I can see them blowing the horns like this when there is actual traffic but I seriously doubt that is the case all during the late night/early morning hours. This has to stop, you have a very upset community! Very inconsiderate!
Seriously, blow it 3-4 times, not for 4 minutes straight. Wakes us up every night. I kno the conductors are doing it obnoxiously on purpose bc some other ones during the day only do it a couple times and not as long/loud.
Never stop the horn blowing. However, install directional horns via a grant from the city. Also install 4way unpassable gate systems.nThere is a solution. They should seek one. Not seeking one is vicious because Orlando needs to grow up and not outwards. This will need for upward growth bo doubt places people near the rails.
Federal law states they must blow the horn at each and every crossing. If you live by the tracks, have you considered moving? They will NEVER stop blowing the horns.
^ actually change that to 160 times per train (4x per block *10 blocks/mile * 4 miles) - but the time difference stays the same - about 15 minutes of noise every time a train passes by. My house is 90 years old and doesn't have great insulation... telling people to just "live with it" is not an answer.
How many lives have been SAVED by honking horns? How many ACTUAL train accidents have their been? The problem isn't just the horns blowing at the crossing - they emanate at 50-100dB in a 3 mile radius around the track. 1/10 mile blocks, required honking 4x per mile, 4 miles through downtown Orlando = 40 times per train; lasts about 15 minutes of blaring (read: unhealthy) noise for each train. Trains pass through Orlando at about 90 minute intervals - so 15 minutes of every 90 are horns, equalling about FOUR HOURS EVERY DAY, relentlessly.
This is completely egregious and unhealthy - noise pollution can cause high stress, lowering immune systems, etc. and can actually be physically harmful. MAKE IT STOP!
they are required to blow the horn at designated points such as crossings, regardless of the traffic. Did you not know you were moving near a train track?
hours of operation
CSX promotes themselves as a company that is part of the local community. They state they care about the residents that live and work around their rail line. Nothing could be further from the truth. Repeatedly I have contacted CSX regarding their hours of operation, running at 2am or 3am with the air horn blaring for miles. Can't they please not run after...

There is a railroad crossing in Pompano Beach Florida on Atlantic Blvd just West of I-95. The crossing has become very rough and traffic must slow considerably to cross it. Worse, there are metal plates that are shifting and some are rising so that their sides are exposed. I ride a motorcycle and this is an extremely dangerous situation for motorcyclists especially at night when its nearly impossible to see. I took the time to contact CSX and spoke with a representative and after taking all of MY PERSONAL information, they put the onus on ME to go to the crossing and find the crossing ID. Since that time, I have become ill and cannot currently walk. However, when ridden across that crossing 6 months later, nothing has been done. CSK railroad has completely put the onus on me alone to provide them with information before they will initiate some action. I find this exceedingly publicly irresponsible. Should someone get hurt at this crossing due to their negligence, I hope they find this post and can find me as I will gladly testify on their behalf.

I was woken this morning at 6am by no less than a dozen blasts of a train horn. I live in East Nashville, a residential part of downtown Nashville. Was your train traveling so fast that they needed to warn everyone? I live a mile from a Fire Station and even they use better judgement when called out on a run so early in the morning.
Hogansville Ga has a train idling for days and won’t go away. It is very loud and it stinks up the whole downtown area with diesel smell. Please go the freak away! I can hear you in my bedroom and it is so disruptive! It is rude and uncalled for when the train can go to an area without homes especially downtown!
09/10/2020 at 10pm, I witnessed a 12+ inch/ 20bl peice of the concrete support beam detached and fall onto my car causing significant damage ($7,000+). As a result, I swerved to miss it, clipping another vehicle. As a 9/11 Vet, the timing triggered my PTSD and I avoid that overpass at all costs. Evidence currently in storage. Video won't upload.
The RR Crossing in Linden, Indiana on County Road 1100 north is very close to causing vehicular damage. You cannot cross it without potential wheel or alignment damage happening.
Train idling for hours in front of 1475 palisade Ave Teaneck nj 07666
This has 120 residential units.
Can it it idle elsewhere if it needs to idle at all.
Thanks.
The railroad tracks along the canal are EXTREMELY squeeky. They can be heard all day and all night everytime s train travels by. They are in need of some repair ASAP.
We live along the canal near baseball fields in perrinton/ Fairport area.
