On the evening of 6/24/2023, a train stopped at the crossing at the intersection of US Highway 1 S and Front St in Forrest City, AR. As of this writing at 19:36 on 6/24, the train is still blocking the roadway. This is a critical intersection, as it cuts our town in half and causes needless and dangerous delays for emergency response units. After multiple...

Union Pacific Non stop idling in Dunsmuir California

Incessant idling of Union Pacific Idling Train at Sacramento Avenue and Willow Street DOT #748855T.
This has been going on for over 400 hours or 2 1/2 weeks at this location.
Union Pacific officials ignore letters, emails and phone calls.
EPA has been notified.
Next plan of action is working with local city and law enforcement to create a ban on how long they can idle 100 yards away from a multi family unit.
Contacting the local paper to do an article to show the idling and emails that the lack of response from UP is disheartening. Their rep in Norcal's tagline in emails is We Are All in This Together.
It sure does not feel like it.

Desired outcome: Move the idling train a few hundred feet South closer to the southern end where the commercial area of town exists.

Union Pacific Idling train engines

1/12/2023
I am writing to complain about Union Pacific parking their running engines near my home and in my neighborhood. I moved to my NE Portland, OR home in 2000. Trains would go by all the time occasionally honking at something or someone on the tracks. There is no crossings near here. No big deal.

In 2011, a very loud engine was left on the train tracks from early afternoon Xmas eve day to late Xmas day totally wrecking the sleep of me and my neighbors. At that time, UP had a number I could call. I was told that they had to stop the train at a specific time for the train workers to exit.
Gradually, over the years the parking of the engines on the train tracks near or right by my home occurred more and more. I complained to UP quite a lot and was given various reasons. I would call and talk to someone in the Midwest. Some were nice, some were not. I wasn’t always nice because I was either terribly tired or worried about my ill husband and just plain stressed out which was and is not good for my health.

The latest excuse for the leaving the engine on the tracks for sometimes days is that the UP “yard” is full and that they have to park elsewhere.
Currently, they have parked an engine there New Years Eve 2021 afternoon until late New Years day 2023, again a few days go for over 24 hours overnight, and right now a very loud engine is parked on the tracks since early afternoon Tuesday, 1/10/23. This time it has been there for 3 days and going on 3 nights! That is 3 times in the last 12 or so days! This should not happen at all!

I find it hard to believe that this is not a violation of a noise ordinance. But the City of Portland Noise Control insists that train noises are federally controlled and they cannot do anything for their tax paying citizens, not even empathize or even try to help. I have emailed UP Customer Relations in portland I think it is called with no reply. I see UP has a 1 star rating. It should be lower in terms of the public.
I did see online that years ago in Bend, Oregon, a neighborhood was able to stop UP from parking by their neighborhood with signed petitions.
I can’t sleep and I am miserable and very unable to operate productively. My neighbors feel the same.
I wish there was someone to help. Federally controled noise control?

Desired outcome: Never a train engine be parked by my neighborhood development.

Somebody used a word for idling trains which is perfect - incessant. How can Union Pacific be so abusive to citizens in this country wrecking their quality of life by parking these idling trains often for days next to residential areas releasing toxic fumes into the atmosphere dangerous for citizens and did add "sleepless in NE Portland"

Residential areas should be categorized as quiet zones at least in terms of idling engines both because of the noise and the fumes spreading into the neighborhood,

and I haven't seen this mentioned, but we have incurred cracks in our home from the ground shaking from the idling engines.

I live near that same " incessant idling train" and would love some relief from the "fumes", noise, and finally get some sleep !

Union Pacific Train Horn

I understand that the train must blare it's horn, but you guys have a train conductor that is a real jerk. He went by this morning at 6:23am at your Ward Lane in Burleson Crossing. We have a burleson residents talking Facebook page and apparently he did it at ALL the crossings. He blew his horn for 10 minutes through each crossing. This is not the 1st time this conductor has done this. I just think it is ridiculous and very immature.

Desired outcome: Please talk with your employees about courtesy. We don't think it is funny!

Union Pacific Homeless encampment

Reside near a railroad on North and Buena Vista in Hollister CA. The encampments continue to grow as no efforts are made to dissuade them from establishing despite it being trespassing. They were cleaned out but almost immediately camps were established as there is not follow through. The amount of trash, drug use and fires puts my community in danger and with no efforts to enforce trespass laws it puts my property in danger. I have to walk past the railroads to get home and often have to walk in the street to avoid the sidewalk where subjects are congregated talking to themselves and yelling. I would expect you put the same effort to make my community better as you would for the community were you live. Any efforts to address this ongoing problems would be appreciated before it gets further out of control and can not be addressed.

Desired outcome: Clean up and ongoing follow up

Union Pacific Employee

I was heading east from Jerome on I-84 on Saturday, July 16th at approximately 1:45 PM. I was driving a 2007 3/4 ton Chevy Suburban towing a small utility trailer. My speed was approximately 75 to 80 MPH. I was about 100 feet behind another vehicle, traveling the same direction at the same speed. We had both moved over to the left lane in order to pass a UPRR pickup, in the right lane,

it looked to be a 3/4 or 1 ton, license # KW2385. Truck # 44459. He, identified later when he slowed and we passed him, as a large, dark haired, bearded man, was following, very closely, behind a semi-truck. The vehicle in front of me passed the UP pickup and as I approached, merely seconds later, he suddenly swerved out in front of me. I missed a collision with the UP truck by slamming on my brakes. If I had not been fully alert, his maneuver would have resulted in a very serious accident, possibly fatal. I had my wife with me at the time. We are both retired and older so surviving a collision of this type may have been difficult for us.

Desired outcome: This guy just didn't seem to GAS. You figure it out. More accidents and fatalities or reign him in.

Union Pacific Train across the tracks for 6 days

There is a train across the tracks in Centerview Missouri. It has been there for at least 6 days. There is only one way through town and the train is blocking it. Kids and adults are climbing between the cars to get to the other side. The agreement between the city and the railroad is that it will only be blocked for 10 minutes. Please move the train or split the train so Main Street can accomidate through traffic.

Desired outcome: Move the train.

Union Pacific Train across road

For the third time this week there was a train stopped across the road for well over an hour. Today it tied up Black Bayou Rd., in Bloomington TX for over 2 hours [protected].) What gives Union Pacific the right to block roads and stop emergency vehicles from reaching residents in a possible emergency, not to mention the risk of having people sit in their cars for over 2 hours. Union Pacific needs to pull their collective heads out of their collective [censored] and schedule the trains better, or park 100 feet away from the road crossing if they must wait. Its no wonder that the train has declined in the last years. Shame on you.

Desired outcome: Fix the schedule or stop the train before the road crossing.

Union Pacific UPS screeching wheels

The UPS trains that come through Elmhurst, IL have excessive screeching of their wheels. Between 50-70 freight trains come through the city daily. The screeching can last between 5 and 10 minutes per train. This has impacted daily living since you can't enjoy the outdoors with all of the noise that is above and beyond what you would expect for railroad noise.

Desired outcome: UPS needs to come out to this area, listen to the noise that is above 90 decibels, and address this situation

Union Pacific Rocky mountaineer train idling all night is noisy and wasteful

I live near your tracks in Glenwood Springs, CO. In 2021, the Rocky Mountaineer Tourist Train started offering a luxury train tour from Denver to Moab. The tour includes an overnight stay in Glenwood Springs, CO where passengers disembark the train to stay in hotels overnight. Once the passengers have gone, the train moves to the railyard near my home and the engines idle all night long, which means 4 nights/week I can't sleep due to the low-frequency rumble from these engines - the vibrations shake my townhome, and I can even feel them in my bed! The Rocky Mountaineer company says they need to idle the trains all night because they need electric power to run lights for security and perform maintenance on the train, and there is no electric power service available at the railyard.

Please install electric service for a Shore Connection System in the railyard in Glenwood Springs so the Rocky Mountaineer train could plug in and then turn off its engines. Glenwood Springs Electric has pledged to get all the electricity they provide to customers from renewable sources, so you could publicize setting up electric service at our railyard as an environmentally positive thing to do, and help reduce noise pollution and diesel emissions!

Desired outcome: Please install electric service for a Shore Connection System in the railyard in Glenwood Springs so the Rocky Mountaineer train could plug in and then turn off its engines.

Union Pacific Incessant blaring of horn.

Dear Sirs at 10:20 tonight (03/19/22) a train came through the 16th and G train yard in Council Bluffs IA. I understand the need to warn people and other trains with the extremely loud horns on trains. This particular engineer started blasting his horn way before entering the yard (i believe no horn is needed in the yard unless there is two way traffic (trains) kept blasting it all the way across the train yard and continued to do so until I he faded out of hearing. I live on I street 800 ft from the train yard and put up with an awful lot of noise all night long so i am relatively immune to the horns but this case was above and beyond normal. Please investigate this incident as to why anyone would deliberately run the horn for that long, he or she was either on something or was in serious trouble .

Desired outcome: Limit the use of the horn to only when required or needed.

Union Pacific Train horns in early morning hours

I live in Jefferson, Louisiana near a railroad crossing. The crossing is un gated so it requires trains to signal drivers usi their train horns. I've read that the standard is 2 longs and one short horn blow. The trains that pass through the crossing are using their horns excessively. From the hours of 3am to 8am I am recording long horn blows and multiple horn bursts about once every 20 minutes. The horns are constant during those hours. If there is anyway to regulate when and how the horns are used it must be done so as entire neighborhoods are being woken at 3am and beyond.

Desired outcome: Horns used at the crossing and nothing else

Union Pacific Excessive Train Use In Residential Neighborhood, Late Night & Early Morning.

The train that comes through the intersections at Lafayette and Lick Mill and Lafayette and Yerba Buena in Santa Clara blasts their horn 15x-20x at midnight and at 6am. These are residential areas! Yes, they are obligated to sound it near the railroad crossings but it's been excessive the last few weeks. There are only two train crossings within a few miles and honking as many times, at night and early morning when people are sleeping, just comes across as a conductor trying to wake people up or disturb them.

Desired outcome: Sound horn the minimal required amount during hours when people are sleeping.

Union Pacific Roseville Road/Adagio way

Dear Union Pacific, why are you allowing a new homeless encampment on your private land at Roseville Road/Adagio/Butternut way? The large RV and several cars have setup an encampment and bringing piles of trash being blown about. It will only get worse with more coming to camp here if you continue to let them. Please, Please ask them to vacate.

You have every right to ask them to vacate. Please do not let this continue. I am a homeowner nearby and worry that this will escalate like other parts of Sacramento.

Desired outcome: Please ask the encampment to vacate your land.

Union Pacific This is a noise complaint

You have an engineer that drives the train thru Pleasanton between 11pm PST and 5am PST several nights a week who appears to intentionally blast the horn much longer and more frequently than is required to be in compliance. This has been noticed by several in our neighborhood and it happens a few nights a week. We would like it addressed by Union Pacific before we raise a complaint to Pleasanton city council. I have a recording to share if this helps.

Desired outcome: Reduced horn blowing

Union Pacific Train noise and fumes

For over year since I've complained about your trains parking in front of my house. And since then they have made a point to park in front of my house, because I call and complain about the noise and fumes. I was even threatened by one of your train operators when I tried to get the number of the train, he got out and stood on the steps of the train and said he wanted to kick my butt. Now that I complained so much the fumes and the noise, they put all their phones on a busy signal where I can't call them to move their train because we are getting gassed out here in Pomona Ca. on the corner of W. First St. and Oak Ave. there is a train right now 6483 gassing us as I speak. This has come down to just bullying and harassment because all we want is not get gassed out and stop the noise in the early morning hours. I have videos on my You Tube Channel R.E. Nunez where I talk about the noise and threats. I also have documented every time they have parked on my website imagesofpomona. blogspot.com I do this so the rest of the neighborhood can call in. Since I'm the only one who has a clear view of the train and it's numbers. That way they don't have to climb out of bed to get the number of the train. So like I said this has been going on for sometime now, this is also a No Train Horn Zone but yet they still blow their horns at night to get back at us for complaining. But being threatened like that was uncalled for. By the way the phones are still on a busy signal.

Desired outcome: No more parking in front of my house

Union Pacific Land management of Union Pacific Rail Road Property, i.e., weeding

UPRR has left decaying railroad ties in the City of Tempe, along Kyrene from Southern to Baseline *south of the US 60 and north of Baseline Drive) and I suspect from Tempe Beach to Southern.

These railroad ties were recently replaced (a few weeks back) but they are an eyesore, a danger to children who want to climb them, and a fire hazard in this heat which could incinerate the entire area of businesses and manufactured homes nearby. Since they pose imminent danger, removing them promptly would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Desired outcome: Removal of railroad ties.
