I recently reviewed my Transunion credit report and found that Dish Network had recorded a negative item, a collection action approximately ten days ago in the amount of $323.18 for unreturned Dish equipment.
The facts regarding the Dish Network equipment is as follows:
I was a customer of Dish Network for several years. In May of 2021, I discontinued my services with them. Shortly after my notice to Dish Network of my service discontinuance they sent me a box in which I was to return the equipment. I packed all of the equipment in the box provided and returned it in the manner prescribed, to UPS and received a receipt of the returned equipment. Now, two years and four months later my Transunion credit report revealed a collection action for the unreturned equipment. Obviously I am upset and very confused since I have had no communication with Dish Network and I have received no invoices are other notice that the equipment was not received by Dish Network. I called Dish Network after learning of the collection and was told that they have no record of me or any account in my name.
When an account is closed with Dish Network, a box is sent almost immediately for equipment to be returned, and I did just that – returned my equipment. Once again, I returned the equipment in May of 2021. I understood that If equipment is not returned within 30 days, I would have been billed for any unreturned equipment. My question to Dish Network customer service department was if my account was closed in May, 2021 and if customers are billed 30 days later on unreturned equipment why am I just now, in September, 2023 having a collection action filed against me? I would like to show them the receipt and tracking number from UPS for the returned equipment, however, after this period of time since the return I can’t locate the UPS receipt or tracking number thinking that the issue was over And I understand that UPS can’t provide a duplicate or have record of the return due to the length of time since return.
This collection action is incorrect, and appears to be a fraudulent effort to collect unearned revenues. Please remove this collection item from my credit report.
Desired outcome: Remove collection account from credit reporting agencies
