Electricity billing
On July 20 Rafael Moret evaluated my energy usage because I wanted to understand what I could do to lower my electric bill.
I told him we had lowered our thermostat from 78 to 80.
We installed a new Carrier HVAC system in 2021. He said we were doing everything right and that since our current reading was lower, the next billing should be in the mid $300 range.
Now so. Our bills for the last year range from August 2021 $260 to August 2023 high of $437.
I contacted Duke Energy and requested an evaluation on my "smart meter". I was told I would get a call for an appointment, After 4 days I called and spoke to a representative that did a "Meter Diagnostic Test". He said a technician coming out is not what they do. His test was how they test meters. That's unacceptable.

I have account w Duke and this is third time they have messed up my account. It happened twice in 2021 n now again. My bill is double due to them not paying my account through auto pay. And they want to charge me extra due to their mistake to be able to pay that double fee. This is ridiculous! I guess I will take this up with the lawyer with the violation of billing code!
Desired outcome: Do not want to pay that double fer
Power pole with transformer on it leaning
I live at 4763 Masonboro Loop Rd, Wilmington NC 28409. There is a pole out front that is leaning a lot with a transformer on it and my power source to my house runs underground to the pole and runs up the side of it. I am very concerned that if the pole falls it will destroy my power box at the back of my home.
My understanding from the Crosswinds neighbor that the transformer malfunction this past month and a screw was thrown over in the Crosswinds neighborhood and damaged her car. I would like to know if there could be a supporting pole put next to it so maybe it would not fall during a bad wind storm like a hurricane.
Desired outcome: Pole replaced are braced

Failure to stop services in my name, refusal to, transfer ap credits to new address, refusal for in person meeting
I called Duke Energy on july 19 2022 to stop services at my address and to transfer to a new address. After hours on the phone and numerous repeat phone calls within 2 days i was finally assured my name was off the other account. I spoke about my heap credits being transfered to the new address and was assured they would be. On Dec 9 2022, I was showen a bill for the original address with my name. I again called Duke Energy and was transferred numerous times and under severe distress. I requested an in person conference and was refused. A technician showed up to my new address and instead of inquiring about my concern and addressing the issue with the other residence still being on in my name, he accused me of stealing electricity at my new address and refused to listen that the electric box had been moved up the hill. After more than 30 mins of begrading me and calling me a thief he finally agreed to look on the hill. While standing in front of my electric box the technician continued to argue with me and deem me an electricity thief. After confirming that i was indeed correct he left very abruptly without confirming anything about the original address. I was not apologized to or comforted in any way over the distress I was just put through. I then had to call the company again with the landlord and confirm to transfer into my name. I was assured numerous times on this day that the 1000 of credits I had in July would be given back to me due to their negligence and them keeping my name on the original address therefor they gave my credits to the new resident. Nov 1st 2022 another 500 was awarded to my account in which they gave to the original address. The emotional distress thatDukeEnergy had placed upon me during all this time is beyond words. I still suffer from the situation badly. In May I received a collections notice from Helvey & Associates for 1018.17 for a Duke Energy Account in which I never received a bill. I am confused how I could inqur this but still have electricity on at my home with my monthy bills. I also wonder, when the past tenant at my new address stopped services if Duke energy refunded Community Action his remaining heap credit of 259. Also inJanuary I received a notice and a bill for a big deposit that I did not have to place upon initally obtaining services with Duke.
Desired outcome: Acknowlegement of my emotional distress and an apology. Credits returned to my account now. Explantion about this creditor and removal from my credit report. An in person conference.
Tree root in backyard
My property is in Brookfield at Estancia in Clearwater. The property behind my fence is owned by your company. There is a large tree outside my property leaning against my fence and the root from that tree is coming through my backyard and uprooting the pavers. This is becoming a tripping hazard and not safe for a lot of activity in my yard. I hope there is a solution to this situation and I would like your help.
Desired outcome: I would like tree removed and the root dug up and pavers put back in place.
A Tree root on your property is causing the pavers in the backyard to be uplifted and cause a tripping hazard/
Pictures taken 7/15/2023.
According to public records, your easement behind the community at Brookfield at Estancia is your responsibility to maintain.
The tree's root that is furthest away in the attached picture is causing the pavers in the backyard to be raised, causing a trip hazard.
In the second photo, the pavers in the foreground are raised. It looks much worse in person. Please let me know who I can contact to resolve this. The tree needs to be cut down, the root causing the issue must be removed, and the pavers need to be reset so there flat.
Desired outcome: Have the trees cut down, the tree root that is causing the issue dug up and removed, and the pavers reset in place so there is no trip hazard in the backyard.
Constant loss of power
I live at 504 Sycamore Drive, Anderson, SC. My power is consistently lost due to fallen trees. I have my 89 year old father-in-law living with me. He is on oxygen and a loss of power is life threatening to him.
I for the life of me cannot understand why Duke Energy does not trim trees from the power lines so that the consistent loss of power is cut to a minimum.
Please explain. I have called and asked several times for trees to be trimmed and the constant response has been do that during our trimming season. When exactly is the trimming season because I never see it done.
Desired outcome: I want my power to stay on with less power outages.
Please see above

Getting power restored
Chad and Kimberly my contacts at Duke Energy, I hope this site is not the norm for a finished project, [protected]. Chad assured me that there would be no cost for this project to me. First where did my driveway go? My understanding was a trencher was to be used and a small mound of dirt would have been distributed, it appears something much larger was used, what a mess. There is currently no way for me to park any of my cars or trucks over there, the giant rocks could damage the autos and the holes that were left would get any auto stuck. Where is the gravel, without the gravel no way to get out of the driveway, it appears to be just mud and it is up hill, so without gravel I can't escape the driveway, that is not the way it was before we started this venture? Why is the grass all gone and what happen to my $50 dollar, 5-foot-tall address sign that is now 1 foot high and broken? Appears someone tried to repair but failed, how are you going to put the small grave size #88 and the grass back and fill the holes in and remove the ruts, so my driveway is usable? Please advise. What is the Duke Energy is going to do to help me fix my driveway, make my neighbor happy and my address sign? I have had an estimate to get my driveway usable, $1950.00 was the estimate. I'm hoping Duke Energy is a company of it's word and that it will not cost me anything to complete this project, with only Social Security as my only income, I hope I'll still be around to save the money to get my driveway usable. That is certainly one way to make me forget about the original goal, power to the house. Any idea when that might happen. Wow I got some issues, please help me. Please let me know what is going to happen next. Thanks Bob...
Desired outcome: A driveway like it was usable, new address sign, happy neighbor yard good and happy, power on at the house and no cost to me.
Electric service
I live in Forest Lakes Park, Marion County Florida, for some reason my block of 5 homes loses Electricity a lot. Its very aggravating, to deal with this. The last time I called the office, the CSR assured me, the problem was taken care of.
EHHH Not ! This problem really needs to be fixed, to be the only block to lose Electricity, is a problem with the equipment.
Desired outcome: For me not to lose my electricity, like the rest of my neighborhood
Inadequate and unfinished task requested. Supervisor refused to speak to me!!!!
Account #: [protected] Back story: the wooden post the electrical box was attached to was rotten and the screws attaching the box to the post had pulled out, leaving the box to easily be moved from side to side. At MY EXPENSE I had the post replaced, painted and stabilized/attached to the side of my mobile home. For three days I attempted to explain to customer service representatives that all I was requesting was a technician to come and PUT FOUR SCREWS IN FOUR HOLES AND SCREW THEM INTO THE POST. A couple of young men came out and could not figure out what to do. After the situation was explained to them, they put ONE SCREW into one of the holes, secured it to the post and left. I made repeated calls that afternoon and the next day asking to talk to a Supervisor and THREE of them refused to speak with me. The customer service representatives could not comprehend what I was asking.
I asked two electricians to complete the task; they refused because it was Duke Energy's property.
Desired outcome: Please send someone to my home that can comprehend how to put three screws into three holes in the back of the electrical box and screw them into the post. For reference, the technician can look at the one already installed.
Reconnecting service
So, the house I’m renting is about 50+ years old. We’ve been having in the upstairs areas literally just our Alexa Wifi router, and modem plugged in because plugging in anything else, flipping on a light, Turing on the garbage disposal causes the electricity to door working for some times the whole day. We got an electrician to take a look. He says replace the fuse box. OK. We call Duke power to set up a service drop. The pull up cut it off. Fuse box is replaced…inspection is done. How do I know the inspection is done? WELL…I call Duke power to have them send someone to reconnect the power. As I’m on the phone with this young lady. Rashida I think. She says the request just came through. She sees that it’s done. She schedules a reconnect because I’ve got a family member WHOS ON A BREATHING MACHINE! I even get a text and an email about the reconnection service request.
I ask will I get a notification she says you may or may not. Ok. I ask when will it be done by she says they could show up as late as 11:59pm. I trusted her because that sounds like 100% wagyu [censored]. Ain’t no electricity getting cut ON at 11:59pm. So today is Saturday. We’ve got no power, and I was lied too and someone isn’t doing their job. Now this ain’t “I got the wrong burger” this is a bit more important so needless to say I’m pissed.
Desired outcome: To have power restored like it was supposed to YESTERDAY, and a credit for the past MONTH of little to no service
Electricity
Pinehurst, North Carolina - in 5 years I’ve had more power outages on a sunny day than I had for 35 years in Florida with hurricane season. Your services ARE NOT reliable. I run a small business from my home and the continuous loss of power has cost me THOUSANDS of dollars. Not that you put your customer service representatives care since it’s your policy to not offer credits. I’m not sure how you can run a monopoly and refuse credits. If I could take my business elsewhere I would. Honestly, whoever runs this company should be ashamed of themselves.
Desired outcome: For you to DO BETTER
Someone committed utility fraud

poor drivers driving Duke Energy truck
4/28/2023/ 10:35 am
I was at the light at Cottonwood drive and Loveland Madeira Road this morning with my blinker on to take a left on Loveland Madeira Road. When the light changed the Duke Energy Truck #31133 pulled out in front of me when he should have yield. He was too busy eating and drinking his items from Arby's and was not paying attention. I called the Duke Energy customer service and Jen was not very helpful at all and somewhat rude and told me to go on line to file a complaint. Very disappointed with your employees!
Desired outcome: I would like the employees be reprimanded for their actions
Billing
We moved into our new home in November of 2022. We immediately called Duke Energy to have the power turned on. At that time we advised them that we have solar. (having never had solar before we thought that was all we had to do is advise the power company). Five... Yes FIVE months later we received a bill of $800 dollars plus for service since 11-22. That is outrageous. We called to advise them that we have solar and we should not be paying such a high bill. They advised us that we did not fill out the interconnect application and therefore they charged us for the full service amount using absolutely $0 out of our solar.
This is not right. We told that up front that we had solar panels. Not one person ever told us that we had to fill out a form to be billed correctly. We contacted them when we received this outrageous bill and they said we need to fill out the interconnect form and then we can talk about credit with billing. So we filled out the form and once approved (10 days later) we called and asked for credits for the prior months. They flatly refused saying that they do not give credit for past bills! They are the ones who waited 5 months to even give us a bill and now they say they will not credit. We need someone to help us as we are getting nowhere with Duke Energy.
What an awful experience for a new customer.
Desired outcome: Review the bill and refund anything over the nominal fee of $30. per month for solar. We were wronged by Duke Energy when they stated they would credit and then said they will not.
