Entergy Overpriced

Budget billing? I think not! 6 months of service, paying around $300 - $500 monthly, ending with an additional $2100 bill, all for a shotgun house. They say it's my fault for signing up for the service, "As they advise their customers not to do for the first year of their service." Ahem, I was not advised "not to sign up." Actually, I was encouraged, but now certainly discouraged. Irony is here, I can feel it. I can also feel them slapping it on my credit report, which was flawless, because I didn't pay from August 15th (payment posted) until November 7th (payment posted). As they've told me, "After 90 days we report to the credit bureaus." Who's doing their math?
How does one dispute an energy balance or an unfair credit reporting? The story really gets more elaborate, but I won't bore you... just a warning for Entergy consumers. Oh yes, also they are happy to accept payments for your grossly ending balance, but they send no statements or reminders... until you forget to pay and you've been reported. Well, thank you Entergy!

Entergy Monopoly

It all started in Dec. 08 when I recieved a disconnect notice for a total of $565. My avg utility bill is < $150/mnth. After waiting 45 min, the CSR told me that my bill for the month was about $180 and the rest was added on because of Hurricane Gustav. It appears that during the storm, they weren't able to read my meter and were now charging me for the difference since they underestimated my use. After informing me that there was no way I could break the payments up, i reluctantly paid $565 out of the last $1000 I had. I broke my ankle in Oct and haven't work since then. The $565 killed my already strained savings but I paid it. I receive my Jan bill, not disconnect notice, and it says that it is due Jan 6.
On Jan 7 my lights are turned off. I call and talk to a supervisor and explain that I never received a disconnect notice. He looks over my file and decides I'm right and issues a reconnect (after I pay additional $200). 3 days later, I receive new disconnect for Jan 21 and learn that a $750 deposit is now required. After wrestling with a team lead for about an hour, I learn that there is nothing i can do about it. I agreed to pay for whatever energy I used, i just wanted the $750 deposit waived because 1. I don't have it and 2. i s feel wronged. Of course they refused! I have no where else to turn! We need to break this unfair monopoly now. My business will have to close its doors as a result of something that was truly not my fault. I even explained my accident and the terrible timing of the Gustav debacle, but to no avail. Entergy has a grip on all of us and they have no interest in anything other than money. I would gladly pay more money to any company that competes with them if such a thing were allowed in our brave, free land. Thanks for letting me vent while i still have electricity.

You too?! Entergy is NOT the type of company that is staffed with well spoken, educated people foremost. The customer reps answering phones are scared to answer your questions so you get transferred to a supervisor that answers " Yes, you wanted to talk to a supervisor?!" I never in my life have heard anyone answer a company's phone like this, unhappy, uneducated supervisor did.

Secondly, They are great for parties becuase it's always a surprise when I look at my bill each month. I just moved into a house so I'm thinking there are deposit, taxes and such. But my bill came for $452. Then shortly after bill for $351. I thought I'd go ahead and take care of these. When you make two payments within a few days after each other to pay off the next month's bill, WATCH OUT! I paid my current month's bill plus 70% of my next month's bill early, all within a few days apart. 2 weeks later, I recieved an email stating my account is past due. I called right way to find out what happened. Entergy told me because my second payment cleared first, and first payment still pending that amount was applied to next month's bill instead of the current month. You would think any payments recieved would apply to your current month's bill first and excess, the balance. Nooooo, they honestly forgot the customer service part when the company opened for business. Customer's are the only way, you can stay open for business.

I scratched my head and asked the supervisor" Are you seriously telling me my next month's bill is paid but not my current months bill? I did not agree with that and anyone in their right mind would have saw that was not right! The uneducated supervisor had nothing else to say but repeat to me over and over and over and over and over the policies and how I could wake up tomorrow morning without lights if I dont pay the balance now.

I gave her a few words in hopes the call was recorded for TRAINING purposes, yes, more supervisor, customer service, self-management life skills training is VERY MUCH NEEDED! It's very sad when the reps and supervisor are unaware of how far a nice greeting such as " Hi, my name is such and such, how can I help you? then make a comment such as" Let's take a look to see what CAN be done" when there's a mix-up or situation. Even if nothing can be done, professionalism goes a long way. I switched to a much better company because in the end, texas has the power to choose. A customer's trust and business is something earned by being there for those mix-ups and rough times NOT just by providing electric service alone! Entergy will loose their customer's shortly after they join. 4 others so far, keep posting yours here.

Get all your paperwork, check copies, etc together and call the office of your Public Works commissioner for your area. I had to do similar in the Northern part of Louisiana and they got right on it -and investigated the situation thoroughly. Don't hesitate to call these people -it is their job to make sure that these monopolies don't act like it sounds like they are acting with you!

I just the smae Notice my Bill was due on May 4th and I got the disconnection notice on May 15th, last day to pay May 24th . I think Entergy should be taken to court for this kind of practice . I think they are trying to hit cutomers after they got hit my Hurricane IKE . I am thinking to getting solart panel and cut the idiots off . I wish I could switch to another provider, which is another Monopoly they have on my area that I can't switch .

I havent received November's bill butI received a disconnect for not paying it.
I have been cut oss three times since Ike. Once because we requested someone check the meter. My bill has increases by 100 to 120% over the same period last year. The usless CSR told us we bought something. Last time I checked we didnt purchase and additional household and attach it to an outlet. The problem is that we are locked into the yoyos and have no other option. Legal Crooks is all Entergy is.

Entergy Billing Practices

Apparently three was an unpaid portion of a bill, to the tune of $20 (why?, I don't know), it was carried over to the following months bill. Of which just a cumulative figure was given and a pay date of the September 21st given. On the 10th of September I arrive home in the late evening to found that my power has been out for a number of hours. I quickly call Entergy to find that I had to have a portion, that $20 dollars paid by 9th of September. This of course was nowhere on the bill, the bill I had included this amount a showed a due date of the 21st. Not a breakdown of $20 by the 9th and the remainder by the 21st. I did not receive any other piece of mail or a phone call about an interruption of my service. I was able to get the power restored and was forced to pay $50 reconnect fee. Which I complained vehemently about, as I feel I was not entirely at fault.

I receive my current months bill, only to find that another magical $50 charge. I call and find that it is a $50 Deposit, to go along with the $200 deposit I gave them to start service. I ask why do they need so much deposit considering the my average energy bill is about $80 a month (single bedroom) and since they are so quick to pull the trigger on the plug, it would take 3 months of non payment to use up that amount (of course i would never do this). No answer.. It most be nice to run a Monopoly. If I had any other option I would get my power elsewhere. Thanks for reading

I remain neutral on this. While I do agree these additional deposits and fees are a bit high and consistent... I also hate to inform you that any additional fees are regulated and APPROVED by your local PSC. Meaning the very people YOU elected are responsible for this situation. Ultimately, you're the cause of the very fees you despise.

I have the exact same situation with Entergy regarding a shut-off situation that occurred in May 2014. Same exact confusion over bill, overdue amount (which I didn't realize had carried over etc.), immediate shut-off, etc. I have been in this state for 14 years and have paid my bill every single month. I have lived in D.C., California, Missouri, Tennessee, Florida and overseas. Let me state again, I have never not paid a utility bill. Like you, I wasn't told about any $200 fee on top of a $50 reconnect. Not only am I appalled at the exorbitant fees, I am humiliated by their treating me like some nary-do well. I fully admit I misinterpreted the bill---but the Entergy rep told me it is so confusing that even she had her service disconnected for the same exact reason.
I can understand the $50 reconnect fee is necessary. The rest is just a consumer rip-off.

Entergy did not bill me for 2 months. When I called and asked what was going on with the bill, no one could give me an amount. I went in person. No one could give me an amount. I was then billed for 2 months, had late fees, but a letter came with the bill explaining that there was a billing error and that I could pay any outstanding charges over time. John M. Browning (the Supervisor of Customer Accounting)stated in his letter that they would work with me. My first skipped bill was for $81.38. I paid $100. I told the customer service rep I could pay more on Oct. 20. I get paid once per month. A week later I get another bill. I call again only to find out I have late fees and a cut off notice. I took off work today to go see them. They told me if I didn't pay any remaining balance my service would be cut off. I had to pay over $100 to keep the lights on. Mind you, I just paid $100 a week ago. I get paid once per month and live in a 500 square foot apartment. Entergy did not work with me. They have caused me financial hardship. I am always on time with my bill. I feel screwed.

Entergy Rip off

First of all i didn't receive a bill for two months then when i did it was 800.00, after paying a 500 dollar deposit to get service turned on they want an additional 150 deposit because i paid my bill late, all because they never mailed one... this company offers *** customer service, and service, use anyone else but them, the supervisor told me that i would have to pay it all in full before they reconnect service and an additional 12.50 trip charge and a 12.50 reconnect charge, i don't really care about the 25.00 but they are a ripp off... i mean it a rip off, they should be kicked out of texas...*** this company... i am reporting them to the p.u.c., and writing to the mayor to express my interests in deregulation, cause conroe cant use anyone but shifty entergy and they suckkk ***...

We live on FM 1725 Cleveland Texas. We have repetitive outages lasting from 1 to 10 hours at least once a week and sometimes twice a day. This has been happening for 20 years! Thankfully we have a home generator but have to pay for propane. 2024 our propane usage was more than our electric bill was.

Our electric bill reached 800-1000 dollars during the months of August Through October. We were actually out of town for weeks when this happened. We requested someone to look at our meter, but no one showed up. Our home was hit by lightening while we were out of town and we think this may have caused a surge.

My Entergy bill went from $63.81 in November to $112.59 in December so I carefully monitored usage and my January bill is $168! Most of that time I had NOTHING on no heat and no air. This is nothing short of theft

9/12/2022

ABC Professional Tree Service cleaned up powerline trees in my neighborhood today (Broadmoor - corner of Goodwood and Marilyn) and cut down 10-12 trees, some as small as 3/4 inch in diameter at the ground. There was no reason in the world to cut these to protect the power lines. There was no arborist supervising.
