Flower gardens and trees
We ordered their Butterfly Garden (NC5448); Hummingbird Garden (NC7796; North Star Pie Cherry (N6202); and STD Black Tar Cherry (6198) last spring. Neither of the cherry trees' leafed out and needed to be replaced. A number of the plants for either garden did not sprout: 3 Sweet William (5385); 3 Mixed Russell Lupines (6231); 6 Mixed Oriental Poppies (6806); 1 Hardy Fuchsia (7591); 1 Hummingbird vine (7306) did not grow and have not been replaced.

Ordered 10 May. I requested cancelation and refund on 8 June. Does not respond to emails. Does not answer phone calls. Would not cancel shipment. Received Order in July, I refused, shipped back to Exciting Gardens. Got in touch with Customer service in late July he said, " you will receive refund soon. It is now 28 Sep. Nothing! Called again today (28 Sep) she "will leave a message" is the answer I recieved.

If you are reading this complaint, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM EXCITING GARDENS!. I ordered a bag of grass seed and 200 periwinkle plants on 4/26/2021 - Order # 628438. Note that customer service phone is always busy and emails may or may not be responded to. They will only accept a order cancelation on day of placing an order as written in their brochure. I tried to cancel the order in June after they charged my credit card and nothing had happened for 4 weeks but alas an email said it was in shipping and could not be canceled. My credit card company honored their policy. Nothing really happened until I created a dispute claim thru my credit card and the ordered products finally showed up at my door early in July over 8 weeks after placing the order and well beyond the planting season for my area. I did not receive any notice that the products were being shipped. The periwinkle was shipped in 8 plastic packets stamped to indicate 25 plants per package. Since Exciting Gardens now has my money and my cancelation request was not honored, I had to plant the periwinkle. As we started to plant the periwinkle and open each packet we counted the plants in each packet. Fifteen plants were the most plants found in a packet . We received a total of 105 plants out of a total of 200 that was purchased and marked on the pouches. I don't know if the 105 plants will survive this hot summer weather. It is unbelievable that a company can say that an order is in processing for 4 weeks and then be in their shipping department for another 4 weeks. I want the 95 plants sent to me that I was shorted and will probably need the 105 plants resent as they will die by this fall due to being planted at the wrong time of year. To date I have not spoken to a real person at Exciting Gardens nor have they reached out to me to express concern about my order.
Desired outcome: 200 replacement periwinkle plants to be sent to me for the plants I did not receive as well as the plants that did not survive.

replacement plants
several weeks ago I applied to you to have my plants that did not grow last year replaced. You did not seem to understand my request so you asked me to repeat the information again which I did. This has been 3 weeks or so now. Where are my plants? Last year when I ordered the plants it took you over 4 months to ship them to me and then you sent them so late they did not get a chance to get established before it got too cold therefore they did not survive the winter. If you cannot get the plants to me . by next week I want a full refund or I will be contacting the consumer protection agency. This is poor business practices.

Dead plants arrived
Order number #598094 on April 9, 2021. Plants arrived beginning of June 2021. I had ordered Berry Awesome Hibiscus which arrived with the head broken off and its little container soil scattered all over the package. I also had ordered a Thornless Rose which arrived as a dry branch. Creeping Phlox looks dead also but some may stay alive. Nothing has grown since then. These catalogue items are a ripp off.
Desired outcome: Request a fresh Awesome Hibiscus and Thornless Rose or a refund.

4/21/21 order for 9 perennials
I placed an order with this co. on 4/21 for 4 delphiniums, 3 blue daisies and
2 ceoposis. I have yet to receive this order but it has been charged to my credit card! Our planting season began 5/15 and it is unseasonably warm this year
so being able to plant these plants and keep them alive will be iffy.
I asked them twice prior to charging my credit card to cancel this order but
they refused.

I have placed three orders in the last year (2020-21) with Exciting Gardens, none of which have been fulfilled. I had one earlier order in 2018 that was filled, but with these last three orders, there was no notification at all. I waited several months and when I contacted customer service, they stated that they could not process my card and I could resubmit the order or place a new order. I did both and in both instances, I received the same result - no notification, but my order was cancelled and not shipped. When I inquired this last time in May 2021, I received an email stating that if I was asking about order status, to not worry, it would be fulfilled, but that they were behind on orders due to COVID. Then a couple weeks later, today, received a note indicating "we are unable to process your previous orders". I don't believe I was charged for any orders I did not receive, but it would have been nice not to have to wait, inquire, and then be told my order was never processed!
Desired outcome: to receive the order I placed or be told if there were problems so that it could be resolved.

On April 5, 2021 I ordered plants and mole traps on their phone (309-663-9553). I was told that I would receive the order within 2-4 weeks. I started calling them on May 10th when I did not receive the order. Called them many times, but their line was always busy no matter what time of the day that I called. On May 21, 2021, I checked may credit card account and discovered that my account had been charged on April 28th for the order by Richard Owen Nursery. I sent an email to [protected]@excitinggardens.com as stated in their catalog regarding the disposition of my order. I have never received my order nor a response to my email.
I nevergot over $100 of plants I ordered but they charged my card when I ordered both times

This has to be the most inefficient ordering and catalog page I have experienced in a long, long time...you join which I do not think one should have to do to purchase; then you try to order...no way is that going to happen..been trying for a half hour tonight. Perhaps I will go find an old catalog of say Burgess and order from them.
After you join, you try to log in ...will not happen, then you push Summary, will not happen, so there is no way to go across the page, place the order and pay.
I am thoroughly disgusted.

wrong plants no plants
I bought plants in the mild of november 2014 for shipment 2015 spring in april. Got 2 plants one set wasn't even what I ordered the other was a stick with just a few roots. I order a large order and now first week in may and no answer or shipments. I keep trying to call but it goes straight to a busy signal. I've email and get a generic email or nothing but no answer to when anything will ship. Very disappointed I could have bought local. Which I will from here on out!
The plants are dead when I got them I need to replace them or give me back my money
The rose hedges I ordered arrived and they all looked dead. I had my gardener plant them even though he said they looked dead. Only one of the plants took root the others were all dead.
not sending product bought
Sent order in April they placed the order April 14, 2010. on June 4th I called and they said everything was in stock they wouls send e-mail to the Minnisota store where it is to be shipped from. On June 9th still nothing and they did not know why this was not processed everything is in stock that I ordered. On June 16th I talked with Jessie (ext) 720 . He said that this should have been shipped along time ago that everything was in stock and he would send them another e-mail notice. June 23rd nothing sending another notice by email. June 29th taked to Carolyn cannot ship until they have all the product. June 30th taked with Victoria she gave me the number to the Minnisota office [protected]) I taked with Betty there and they have not recieved my order nothing in the file. I called back to the main branch and they said Betty put the order in on the computor. When they answered they were upset that I called the Minnisota office and asked how I got that number. I told them that I wanted the product I paid for or else refund my money. They said they could not refund any money it was against company policy. That if they could not send my order now that it would have to wait until spring next year 2011.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Dead Plants
I ordered plants from this nursery. Once they arrived, half were dead and the other half died within a few days. I called the nursery and they told me I could get replacements so I returned the original shipping label and three weeks later received MORE DEAD PLANTS. I called, got them to send more replacements and received my third shipment of DEAD PLANTS. I wrote and requested a full refund, and they sent me a credit with their store. I called their customer service center and they said that since the problem was not resolved within 14 days - eventhough I had responded initially within 14 days - they were not required to provide a full refund. Obviously, I have no interest in doing business with this retailer since all they do is send dead plants. Beware - they will take your money and not give you anything (alive) in return!

I was about to place an order with Burgess Seed & Plant Co., but decided to read some of the complaints posted first. Glad I took the time! Then, I took the same route with 4Seasons Nursery, and was again strongly cautioned to beware of their track record! Went to Exciting Gardens.com website, and found the same cautionary advice from disgruntled customers! Turns out that ALL THREE of these businesses were really a part of ONE BIG RIPOFF OPERATION! And so, my advice to all potential shoppers is "Let the Buyer Beware!"
Maybe my situation was a fluke, but after looking at other people's similar reports, I don't think it is. Here's what happened: I ordered $134 worth of plants and seeds in early September, 2012 and my credit card was immediately charged on the 11th of September. Two weeks later, I emailed asking for a status as I had heard nothing. They emailed back stating that the orders were about to go out and I should have mine soon.
I still had nothing by 10/18/12 and so emailed again to cancel the order. (these are garden plants and it was starting to frost, so I didn’t want to try and get them in the ground) They told me on 10/23/12 that I couldn’t cancel as the order had gone to the shipping department and was irreversibly scheduled to ship. I said that was fine and would return the package.
When I received the package on 11/7/12, I immediately returned it that day, unopened to the Post Office and refused the package. I emailed the company that very day and told them it was refused and would be coming back. They acknowledged that and said to please allow 2-4 weeks for a refund.
As of 12/30/12, I still had no refund, 8 weeks later. So I emailed again. They told me that they had received the return but there was “no correspondence” in the package (which of course was unopened as it had been refused) to tell them what to do with the return. I replied that there was indeed email correspondence with customer service and that I wanted my refund. On 1/4/13, they replied that they would issue a refund in 1-2 weeks. That never happened.
So, I finally filed a dispute with my credit card company (go Capital One!) and they got my money back for me. Richard Owens tried to issue only a partial credit of $120 and Capital One had to get the rest of it from them. At least they issued a credit and this is resolved, but what a hassle.
I feel I was more than patient with Richard Owens Nursery, worked with them as much as I could and finally had to solve it by disputing it. I'm filing this report after searching the internet and seeing dozens of other people have had the same problems as me with this company. I don't like seeing this sort of thing going on and feel that by reporting it to the public, the company will perhaps improve whatever problems with their internal systems have created this situation.
