We are now into six months of trying to get Ford to fix our Escape. Case number 5 is open right now. In April paint started peeling on driver door Byerly Ford in Louisville, KY said it was from dirt in paint and passenger door had what they called a stamp in the door both noted as Ford Factory Defects. We have had two repairs at Byerly with the last repair leaving compound, buffing marks, dirt in paint and a crease down passenger door from where they tried to remove stamp. We opened a case from the first repair with Ford. We opened a case with the BBB after Ford will not do buyback or replacement. BBB tried to go for Lemon law but it had two repairs and two denials for repairs and 16 days at Ford Dealerships. They said it had not had enough repairs. This is a 32, 000 vehicle we bought with six miles now having 2990 miles over 800 miles are from taking to Ford Dealership for repairs and inspections. Ford CSM telling us Ford refuses Buyback or Replacement we have a New Escape that a Ford Dealership has damaged due to Factory Defects they tried to repair. Other Dealerships are refusing to try and repair saying Ford will not pay them to fix it. This has bumper to bumper warranty 3 years 36, 000. Yet Ford is doing NOTHING! 5 Cases opened and our Escape is worse now! We did not wreck this Escape! Byerly Ford contacted the BBB and said they were to have no contact with us that the Ford Lawyer told them not to talk to us. We are the CUSTOMER that they destroyed our Escape.

2017 Escape Titanium, White Platinum Paint. Same story as the rest of you. Paint peeling down to metal on driver side window pillar. I got a 3rd party estimate yesterday for $600 to fix the window pillar while in for other repairs. He also told me that I may be on the hook to replace the windshield too. Unfortunately this repair requires that the front windshield be removed and he said that they can't guarantee it won't break.

I called Ford Customer Care and will be taking the car to the dealer as soon to start a claim. I'll let you know the results.

Did anyone get anywhere with Ford on this. My 2017 White Titanium Escape is exhibiting the same, paint peeled from drivers side A-pillar, down to bare metal. Really hate to pay out of pocket.

I also have a 2017 Lightening Blue Ford Escape, have the premium Extended service plan.

I am the original owner, the paint started peeling on the drivers side pillar in Oct. 2021, took it to my dealer to take photos and to file a claim with ford. In the interim the passenger side began peeling. The service person had said Ford missed a step in the painting process and thinks that they would cover it. Ford said NO! It’s despicable. I started a customer satisfaction claim, waiting to hear from them. I also mentioned to them about the swollen lug nuts I had to replace (a known design flaw) I have owned Fords for the better part of the last 40 years, this may be the last one I own if Ford doesn’t do the right thing.

2017 Ford Escape in blue N6 paint color. Almost 55000 miles but doubt this is covered by power train warranty. I need to take in and get a definite answer to the peeling paint on windshield pillar.

After months of getting the engine rebuilt because it was ingesting oil I thought I was good. Here we go again.

2017 White Ford Escape with Paint peeling around Windshield. This is definitely a manufacturing defect and Ford Motor CO should be liable for this. My dealer submitted a claim to Ford and they agreed to pay only half. Cost was $928.68 and I had to pay $464.34. This happened last year when I had 49,000 miles. Again this is a manufacturing defect that Ford should pay for. I keep calling the FORD Customer Assistance to see if there is a Recall or a Class Action Suit filed. I do have a Claim number, submitted my paperwork and have heard nothing.

I have the exact same issue on my 2017 Escape Titanium- Pearl White Paint 52,000 miles, top left and top right of windshield and now a strip of paint 4 inches long on driver side windshield pillar just peeled right off in the wind yesterday and I went to Ford Dealer today- the one guy looked at and called the manager of the collisions repair and body shop of the ford dealer- he refused to look at and said I am [censored] out of luck because it is a 2017 and the warranty has expired. Ford is a complete joke! They don't care once they have your money. I will never purchase a Ford again! The resale value

2017 white escape, just noticed paint peeling down to metal along the driver side pillar near windshield. clear coat is peeling back all the way up to the roof. Clear coat is peeling off like a sheet of plastic. Sounds like this is a common experience and, given it's happening in the same place on similar year models, and has nothing to do with mileage, it is a manufacturing mistake and, as such, should be covered by Ford.

What are the next steps?

Same problem here. Paint chipping on an Escape 2017 next to the windshield.

1. There are known bulletins on this: TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

[protected] Ford/Lincoln/Mercury Vehicles - Aluminum Panel

Corrosion (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10177863-0001.pdf) but Ford is not force to comply.

2. There was a class action on this for the F-150 (https://www.classaction.org/media/nelson-v-ford-motor-co.pdf) a while ago.

Every one keeps asking about one for Escapes 2017. - there is non to my knowledge. Knowledge of this defect has been going on for way too long, and starting a class action doesnt take much. Who is up for it?

I have same problem only I’m in Florida and this car has never been in freezing conditions. We bought brand new. Is there any chance of a class action suit? I don’t know where to ask about this?

No, there’s no chance of a class action lawsuit according to the federal judge Rodolfo Ruiz II in May 2022 he refused to certify a class action suit, claiming there’s no standing or a basis that is and you would have to sue individually not as a class he’s the US district judge out of Miami… Ford motor has a customer relationship center 800.392.3673 but they state they want you to resolve any issues with the dealership. Of course the dealership isn’t gonna do anything because Ford doesn’t recognize the paint, bubbling or the corrosion as their problem they did put out technical service bulletin’s, but it had to do more with F150… if you have coverage of extended coverage for a body panel, corrosion your dealership, my cover it, but I am going to call Ford’s customer relationship center and complain because I want them to authorize my dealership to fix the problem, which is a product contamination in the aluminum body panel has nothing to do with the paint it has to do with the cheap aluminum body panel that they put in and as a result when they put the paint over it, it created bubbling and flaking….

I am the original owner of a well maintained 2017 white Ford Escape. In the fall of 2022, I noticed some paint chipping off of the pillars on both sides of the windshield. By February, the paint chipping/peeling had increased dramatically. I received estimates from 2 body shops of $4,500-$6,000.00 because the paint needed to be repaired on the entire panel or it would continue to peel off more later.

Insurance won’t cover the repair as there was no cause for the damage, such as sand storm. Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan said it was past warranty and “Ford does not have any program to provide coverage for my concern.”

I have read many complaints from others with the same problem. There is even a CBC (Canadian Broadcast Corp) news story from Manitoba, Canada addressing this “international” issue.

I believe that Ford will not address this issue until enough Ford owners complain (I filed through the BBB) to get their attention.

Same here in Texas.. Ford Paint doesn't last as long as the payments do. My 2017 Ford Escape SE with less than 27,000 miles has the paint peeling from both sides of the windshield. Ford Just doesn't care.. So neither do I anymore.. I've bought and paid for 5 Fords in my lifetime and this will be the last one I'll buy EVER. Its not our fault that Ford is putting out an inferior product while charging an arm and leg for shoddy workmanship and materials. I won't waste my time paying for a lawyer to fight this, I'll sell it for whatever I can get out of it and be done with Ford.

Hi think the only way that Ford will take notice is if the US government gets involved so my suggestion if you want to fight it is go to nhtsa.gov and file a complaint regarding car safety because it’s been reported back in January that the national Highway traffic safety ministration has open investigation into complaints of the Ford explore windshield trim panels detaching in flying off cars while driving on the highway and for my daughter, her 2017 ford explorer’s paint bubbled right off of her car around the window. It’s that trim the A pillar and who knows what’s going to happen next the hole trim my fly off so I’m going to put in a complaint as well to have the government look into Ford as the NHTSA did it back in 2018 with Ford F150 B pillar fires…

NOTE TO ALL WHO HAVE PAINT PEELING ON THE WINDSHIELD PILLARS OF 2017 ESCAPES:

I know first hand what you have shared on this site since my 2017 Escape has exactly the same issue. It began in January 2023 and became progressively worse in the months following. Like many of you, the local Ford dealer as well as Ford Canada would do nothing for me.

BUT HERE IS WHAT I DID TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. My friend owns a 2015 Escape. The windshield pillars for that year were not painted, but rather, a rubber molding was inserted when the windshield was installed at factory that extends wide enough to cover the pillar from top to bottom. My thought was to order it and then figure out how I could attach it on top of the pillars on my 2017 Escape which are now almost entirely stripped of paint. When I approached the local Ford dealer, they looked up the 2015 Escape parts and said the molding was not available as a separate part but only comes with the purchase of a new windshield. Nice try, guys! So for awhile I gave up the idea.

BUT THEN I HAD THIS GOD-SENT IDEA. I work for an international parcel shipping firm and noticed on my deliveries many packages being ordered by customers from a company called RockAuto.com. So I went to the site and discovered not only was the part available but it was cheap. So I ordered both the right and left side molding and received it within a week here on the west coast of Canada. Even though the molding comes with a peel and stick adhesive strip on each side, I had to slice off about 1/4" from the width (taking most of the one adhesive strip with it) in order for it to fit just right and not overlap the ridge of the metal pillar (remember the molding is designed so a new windshield fits both over one edge and under the other). For the majority of the strip, the second adhesive strip remaining was sufficient to hold it in place but at the top of the windshield where it curves, I used a quick-setting clear epoxy from JB Weld.

Looking at the finished job, the peeling is now hidden and nobody would ever know the molding was not factory installed, just like the 2015 model. Because the 2017 Escape has a factory installed short curved rubber molding at the bottom of the pillar, I simply cut the new molding to butt up against it. You could remove the short curved molding though and run the new molding uncut down to the bottom of the windshield but I thought it might look better to keep the factory molding in place.

SO IF YOU WANT TO DO THIS, HERE IS HOW:

1. Go to RockAuto.com

2. In the search box at the top, enter "2015 Ford Escape" (not 2017)

3. On the left side of screen menu, click on "1.6L L4 Turbocharged"

4. Click on the last entry of that menu list called "Windshield Molding/Seal"

5. The screen should show "Precision WSKD1920 Windshield Side Molding Kit, Outers, left and right"

6. Click on the blue "Info" button to see an enlarged picture of both strips

7. In the top left of screen choose the currency you want the price to be displayed in (I paid $15.99 CDN for the set of two moldings L+R plus shipping even though the website stated $21.59 CDN.)

8. Select the item by clicking "Add to Cart"

9. Complete the purchase by filling out the account and shipping information required.

For about $20 you can "fix" the problem that Ford won't resolve. If the paint continues to peel beyond that which the new molding covers, then at least you are not out of a lot of money for trying to simple solution. It was probably a cost-saving measure that Ford eliminated these moldings on the 2017 model although the savings would be so minimal and now they are losing loyal customers who would have spent $20,000 to $30,000 to buy a new Escape. Perhaps the name "Escape" better describes the wisdom that has somehow left the minds of Ford engineers and the budget division.

HOPE THIS HELPS!

Larry

Just noticed this same issue on our white 2018 Escape. Drivers Sider near Windshield. I have appointment for estimate at Ford Dealership, and said could potentially be covered under Factory Defect. Has anyone had any luck with this? It's clearly a defect w/ this many cars having the same issue.

Many thanks Larry…my neighbor recently t-boned me in my 2017 Ford Escape and because I had read your Rock Auto fix I ordered the 2015 Ford Escape rubber pieces and took it to my auto body guy; he told me he not only sees Fords with this terrible detect but also with many makes and models. Well I picked my car up yesterday and I thought I would cry I was so happy with the end result. One it looks great but more importantly it has stopped the peeling from going any further.

I am taking my car to the Ford dealership on Monday to share this in hopes they will recommend this type of a solution. Today Larry you are my hometown hero!

But Larry, it is not only the pillars that have the problem on many of the 2017 Escapes. Here's mine. Growing daily. I need to go to the carwash after alot of recent rain but I'm horrified each time I do because of the paint vanishing cancer on this vehicle.

I have the same problem with my 2017 Ford Escape. It started around 35K miles. The car is peeling paint. I called Ford and they told me that there is a 5 year warranty on the paint. They told me to take it to a dealer. I tried two different dealerships last year. I heard nothing. I called them persistant, and was finally told there is only a 3 year warranty for the paint. I will never buy another Ford again!

Meanwhile, in Canada ... (and thanks for collecting these many comments from people.

We can share our experience with peeling and flaking paint on a white 2017 Ford Escape. After having taken several steps to raise this situation with Ford we've not heard anything back from the vehicle manufacturer. Briefly, I spoke with Ford Customer Service on August 3, 2023. They said they'd add my concerns to their file for the vehicle stating that they didn't have a program to assist. Their recommendation was that if we do the repairs, that we keep the receipts and wait to hear if Ford puts something in place. (Not exactly the type of response one would hope to receive, is it?)

From the feedback we're receiving from others with similar paint problems, it doesn't seem that Ford plans to do anything. Some people have been waiting for years, and our experience thus far has been, "Crickets!"

NOTE: For anyone interested, we placed two short videos on YouTube as we gather additional feedback.

Same - I have a 2017 Blue Ford Escape Titanium with peeling paint around the windshield. I have complained to two different dealerships and both said they talked to Ford and sent in pictures but got no response. Transmission just failed so will have this third dealership bring it up with this info from this page. Almost 90K miles now (first complaint under 60K) so not likely they will do anything.
