We are now into six months of trying to get Ford to fix our Escape. Case number 5 is open right now. In April paint started peeling on driver door Byerly Ford in Louisville, KY said it was from dirt in paint and passenger door had what they called a stamp in the door both noted as Ford Factory Defects. We have had two repairs at Byerly with the last repair leaving compound, buffing marks, dirt in paint and a crease down passenger door from where they tried to remove stamp. We opened a case from the first repair with Ford. We opened a case with the BBB after Ford will not do buyback or replacement. BBB tried to go for Lemon law but it had two repairs and two denials for repairs and 16 days at Ford Dealerships. They said it had not had enough repairs. This is a 32, 000 vehicle we bought with six miles now having 2990 miles over 800 miles are from taking to Ford Dealership for repairs and inspections. Ford CSM telling us Ford refuses Buyback or Replacement we have a New Escape that a Ford Dealership has damaged due to Factory Defects they tried to repair. Other Dealerships are refusing to try and repair saying Ford will not pay them to fix it. This has bumper to bumper warranty 3 years 36, 000. Yet Ford is doing NOTHING! 5 Cases opened and our Escape is worse now! We did not wreck this Escape! Byerly Ford contacted the BBB and said they were to have no contact with us that the Ford Lawyer told them not to talk to us. We are the CUSTOMER that they destroyed our Escape.
I have a 2017 Ford Escape with 32K miles - 2K past the 30K warranty! Go Figure! The paint is flaking off and peeling around the edge of the windshield on the windshield/door post! It appears to be a plastic insert under the paint so I am certain the plastic was not properly treated to allow the paint to adhere to it. I am so tired of fighting everyday to just get what I paid for. Is anyone else seeing this?
We also have a 2017 Escape and just noticed yesterday the paint had bubbled and flaked off around the windshield, driver's side. We bought the extended warranty but that does not cover paint. This should be a recall issue.
I have a 2017 Ford Escape is only 26K miles (still under warranty) with paint peeling off next to windshield on drivers side. Ford dealership service department declared that its not covered.
Yes I am. Purchased a 2017 Titanium in 2108..it had been a dealer car. It had 18, 000 miles on it and was pre-certified. Last weekend while rinsing the car off the paint started peeling off the car exactly where yours is peeling. The other side is cracking and ready to peel. After doing some online research I found this is an ongoing problem. Took the car to the dealership where I purchased it and they contacted Ford. Received a call today from the dealership that Ford would not do anything to fix the car. It has less than 29, 000 miles on it. Also have been seeing where these 3rd generation Escapes are having serious motor issues.
Same! I have. 2017 Ford Escape 52000 miles and paint has completely come off the driver side windshield. Fox will not cover it!
I have the same problem with my 2017 White Ford escape peeling around the windshield can’t get them to do anything
I too have a 2017 Ford Escape and the paint started chipping off around the windshield on drivers side. I was told by a dealer it is defective paint, they have seen alot of people come in with the same problem. I am totally disgusted with Ford. I have called everyone I can think of. They love taking your money but they sure don't stand behind their product. I have only owned Fords but this will be my last. I'm getting ready to dump it for good if Ford doesn't do the right thing and stand behind their product.
When I took mine in, Joel (service technician in Tallahassee, FL) was very polite and said he saw it in others that were outside of warranty and that I should not have a problem. He took pictures and said that he had to get approval from corporate and would then call me with the body shop information to take it to. It then took 2 weeks reach him and he was very rude and disparaging.
I just bought a used 2017 Ford Escape (33, 000 miles) from a dealer in Washington State. Two things have happened in the 2nd month of ownership. One of the skid plates on the bottom fell off and the paint around the front windshield has started to flake off. The dealer shrugged their shoulders about the skid plate and told me I must have been 4 wheeling (it happend on I-5) and now they wont call me back about the paint issue. This is my fourth Ford. I wont buy another one but I think a smart lawyer might start a class action lawsuit about this.
I have a 2017 Escape with the paint peeling by the windshield. Dealer took pictures and sent to corporate, corporate says not their problem, suggested I pay to get it fixed and keep the receipt just in case. I am totally disappointed in Ford--I would like to take part in a class action suit
I have a 2017 Ford Escape with 18, 000 miles. Original warranty (36 months) ran out in April. SEptember 2020 noticed paint bubbling and peeling off around windshield. Ford will not fix. This is a manufacturing issue.
Just bought a new 2020 Escape. 3 days after taking it home I discovered that most of the paint on the surface is pitted like an orange peel. The finish on the lower part of the door panels is perfectly smooth. The rest of the car feels like drywall texture. I'm bringing it back.
We have a 2017 Escape and just noticed the driver's side area between the windshield and door has paint that has peeled off. Of course we are way past warrenty. Plane to start a calling campaign tomorrow.
I did the same, ford doesn’t want to help
I also have a 2017 Ford Escape with 35000 miles, just passed my warranty and noticed pain chipping on the left side by the windshield. Filed a claim and Ford states they will not cover the cost of the paint chipping.
I too have a 2017 Escape se just ran past the 36, 000 and the whole passenger side area next to the front windshield flaked off...this is a trend that has reached so many. Maybe a news station or someone that does a reality show can get some answers. Seeing all these comments and complaints is ridiculous.
I just bought a 2017 Ford Escape last Saturday, March 6th, 2021. When I first looked at the car I didn`t notice any paint missing from the car. I told the car salesman that I would take it. After I gave them the check, they walked me out the door, behind the car to put the temp tag on, then got the key & left the dealership. I took a picture when I got home to send to my children. I notices tape around the window. Looking closer, I discovered it wasn`t tape. It was paint missing, on the drivers side, window. Still trying to get Ford to fix it. It only has 20, 210 miles. Sounds like this should be a manufacturing defect recall. The salesman said that he never seen the paint missing either. Bonnie Hite
I am having the same problem with my 2017 escape there are so many complaints about this I can't see how Ford doesn't recall them.i guess its not a safety issue there needs to be a class action suit started there was one for Ford trucks with the same problem. Lisa
I have the same problem with my ford escape 2017 blue the paint from all around the windshield is peeling off and they wanted me to pay 1, 300 dlls.! And they said ford will cover 1, 700 dlls. I am frustrated about my concern! I don’t want to pay any penny! Is a dealership manufacturing defect! I really don’t know what to do!
We also have a 2017 escape, blue in color. Notice paint peeling/flaking around 45000 miles. No help from dealership or Ford. Around windshield was trouble spot.
I also have a 2017 Ford Escape blue and paint peeling around the wind shield and Ford does not to be held responsible
1) I have been to both local Ford dealerships multiple times for various issues (most of which “could not be recreated”) so were never fixed.
2) I had software issues the dealerships could not help me with, I wound up doing a lot of research and fixing myself.
3) my husband and I were left stranded in a dangerous corner on the highway when one of my tires blew, luckily we were able to get the car to the side of the road. We couldn’t change the tire, because the Lugnuts would not loosen. We called AAA, they could not loosen them either, nor could the fellow that came with his tow truck. They were so swollen that they could not be removed conventionally. We had to be towed to the next town, where we had to pay extra for new Lugnuts that can now be removed conventionally. Apparently this is a common Ford issue.
4) and now the paint is peeling on a three-year old car, not cool!
I appreciate any help, because I am extremely frustrated and upset right now! This was a certified preowned car that came to me with many little issues that were not disclosed, and two Ford dealerships were not able to fix most of them. I don’t feel like I should be responsible for repainting this car after all of that!
So thank you very much in advance for any assistance and support you can give me!
I have a 2017 ford blue escape and all around the windshield the paint is peeling off! I took the car to ford colision center and they gave me a phone number from FORD to start a case and they really don’t help, they wanted me to pay $1, 300 dlls to fix it! I am frustrated and upset! Don’t know what to do, I am a loyal ford customer, have bought 5 cars from them. I will start buying cars from TOYOTA. I hope a lawyer can start lawsuit.
I'm also an owner of a 2017 Ford Escape, blue in color. They won't do anything for me either. I shared the link to this complaint site to Jeff Rossen of the Rossen Report to see if he can get any answers. Maybe if we start messaging him on Facebook he'll know something is wrong .
I also have a 2017 Ford Escape in blue as well, as i was cleaning my car today i noticed all my paint peeled off my driver side windshield and the passenger side is also peeling off as well. My car has 46000 miles i purchased my escape in January 2017 with 0 miles and i have been a long time ford customer as well this is my 4th ford and its very sad and upsetting to hear we are all having the same issue. I also bought the extended warranty for my escape so my warranty does not expire till 01/2023 i am going to email channel 2 news Ford needs to repair our cars its a manufacturing issue. Ford doesn’t have a problem taking our money but when a manufacturing issue comes up ford doesn’t want to take responsibility for there errors.
Should be covered under warranty mine was, left side only, now with warranty expired right side peeling.
I also have the extended warranty which I was told bumper to bumper, same as the original Ford bumper to bumper warranty. Why does the extended warranty not include this paint defect the same as the original bumper to bumper warranty? Can anyone explain?
I to have 2017 paint chipping less than 30000 color blue it appears this is factory defect, many people have same problem. I have never heard of such problem. I had a Pontiac vibe 2003 still running not one paint chip.
I too same problem, 2017 Ford escape with paint peeling on pillers both sides. Ford did repair left side pillar when under warranty, got a rental car for 2 weeks (yeah!) Now warranty expired and notice paint peeling on right side, (as well as bubble on repaired side!) I'm just over 10, 000 miles. I filed a complaint adding that both sides should have been done at same time. I was referred back to paint repair company for left side, but right side they can't help. As much as it sucks I have used paint repair kit on other mishaps which I did, and found it easy to use and a good match. Pls someone start class action suit, I plan to be buried in my car and want to look! Lol
2017 Blue Ford Escape with flaking paint on passenger side by the windshield. Very disappointed. Also have the “flapping noise” from undercarriage. We all own fords in my family, but very disappointing I am having these issues.
I have paint peeling around the windshield as well. It seems to be the same issue everyone is having with specifically the blue 2017 Ford Escape. I am talking to my dealership this week...they are supposed to call me.
I just noticed around my windshield paint a big patch of paint has come off. I guess nothing is being done about this. Mine is white. There goes any resale prices.
My wife’s 2017 escape just started peeling on her driver side pillar. Titanium edition in white. 52, 000 miles. Unbelievable.
2018 Escape with 27000 miles. Blue paint peeling on drivers side around the windshield.
My 2017 Blue Titanium Ford Escape has the same problem as well. Peeling paint around the windshield. Took it to two dealerships here in Colorado. The first one is where we purchased the vehicle. The second one, the service manager wouldn't even look at it. I'm in agreement with the other dissatisfied owners that Ford should take responsibility or they're going to lose a lot customers including me
I have a 2017 ford Escape notice paint missing around my windshield. I notice that many people are having the same problem. At first I thought it was done at the repair shop. My Escape AC went out had to replace it it cost $1300 to fix it. Three year old car and AC had to be replaced, and paint coming off. This is so wrong. Especially for people like me that are on a fixed income
I have a 2017 Blue Escape also. Paint is pealing around the windshield. This is a known issue. I have reported to NHSTA and you all should too!
I have a 2017 blue Ford Escape Titanium . I bought it brand new. It just turned 14k miles. Earlier this year the paint started peeling off on both sides of my windshield. I took it to the dealership where I purchased it and the Service Manager wrote it up as a prior authorization. He took about 15 pics at least. A few months later I called Ford and they said they wouldn’t pay for it. Then they told me that they’d pay $1400 AFTER I PAID $3000 plus all taxes, fees, etc. I took it to my own body shop and they fixed it for $1126. While they were blowing off the dust, a large piece of paint flew off the roof. I’ve never owned a Ford before and I’ll never do it again. I’m contacting my local News Channel and hopefully they will do an investigation into this problem. I’ll probably be interviewed as well (if they take the story). Please let me know if you would like any updates or if you want to join me in reporting this (I won’t use anyone’s name unless you give me permission to do so).
Ironically immediately after I wrote this, Ford sent me a Customer Service Survey.
I have a 2017 Blue Escape and mine just started flaking on side of windshield. I would be willing to help pursue remedies through pressuring Ford or a class action suit. Jeff C. in Connecticut jecondon@cox.net
I have 2017 the lightening blue too and mine was chipping on passenger last year and now the driver side. I've gone to Ford and filed claim too absolutely no help whatsoever.
I am in contact with a lawyer about a class action law suit against f I rd concerning the paint peeling off my 2017 Ford Escspe t hat had less than a month
I have 2017 the lightening blue too and mine was chipping on passenger last year and now the driver side. I've gone to Ford and filed claim too absolutely no help whatsoever.
Hello! Any luck with class action law suit? My daughter has a 2018 Blue Escape and paint is peeling around windshield. Ford refuses to cover since it is out of bumper to bumper warranty. Has under 20k miles. We are very disappointed and frustrated with Ford! Would definitely support class action lawsuit!
I am in Canada. I also have a 2017 Escape Titanium. White. Paint peeling off around the windshield. See attached pictures. Paint should not be peeling after 4 years. This car has never been in an accident. This is clearly a factory defect. I think we should file a class action lawsuit in Canada. We should report this issue with CBC News Network. To repaint the windshield area, the roof and back quarter panels cost around $2500. I am not paying this amount.
We have both a pearl white and lightning blue 2017 Ford Escape. The blue one started peeling last year and was repaired for out of pocket as Ford claimed ignorance (we have all documentation and receipts of repair). Just noticed today that the same issue is occurring on on white Escape. We're in Canada and would be interested in joining any action.
I have a ‘17 Escape and paint is peeling off both sides of the windshield on the pillars. Also peeling on the roof line and rear doors. Absolutely horrible. Dealer won’t do anything about it.
My daughter has a Electric Blue 2017 Ford Escape which is peeling around the windshield. The paint is defective and ford should fix this problem
We have a Electric Blue 2017 Ford Escape which is peeling around the windshield. The paint is defective and ford should fix this problem.
We support a class action law suit.
Same here. Have a 2017 Ford Escape in white gold. Windshield pillars peeling paint down to the metal. Very aggravating this happening to a $31, 000.00 car. 40, 000 miles, sign me up if there is a recall for this issue. Vehicle out of warranty. Very disappointed.
Same here. 2018 Ford Escape Titanium with paint peeling on windshield pillar. Repaired 1st time under warranty and now peeling again in different spot. Now car out of warranty. Ford has agreed to pay 65% of repair and me 35% if done at a Ford repair shop. I plan to fix and trade in, but it won’t be another Ford. I really loved this car. Shame on Ford. Please also contact me for class action.

Hi all. I have noticed the paint on my windshield chipping on the passenger side as well, almost the whole way down. I have a 2017 Ford Escape Titanium White.
Same… is there a class action lawsuit?
2017 Blue Ford Escape- First paint problem 2019: Paint chipping off driver's side around windshield. Repaired under bumper to bumper. Second paint problem 2021 mileage 38, 416: Bumper to Bumper expired. Paint chipping in same area and further around windshield. Partnered with local dealership and Ford Customer Care. Repair estimate $1105.60. I paid $391.94, my dealership chipped in $100-ish and Ford paid $600-ish. That satisfied me...temporarily. Paint Problem number three August 9, 2021: Paint started peeling around tailgate window and has continued...mileage today is 43, 730. I approached the dealership again and they agreed they would help to back me if I contacted Ford Customer Care. I haven't reached out to them yet but now that I found y'all I want to work on this together. This is my 3rd new Ford and second Escape. I'd like to buy another Ford but would also like some satisfaction before I move forward.
Same issue ... I bought my 2017 Escape SE in White Gold new. Noticed paint chipping around windshield on passenger and drivers sides near the top at 45K miles. I keep my car impeccably clean and well cared for. Sign me up too for any class action suit.

I too have an Electric Blue 2017 Ford Escape and the same issues. I finally got Ford to split the $2, 200 repair and my car is in the paint shop right now. I just received a phone call that the estimate missed the top of the windshield and now it's going to cost me an additional $500 to paint the entire roof of my car. I cannot believe Ford doesn't think there is an issue and needs a recall.
Please, please if there is a class actions suit add me to the list. TMW117@yahoo.com
I have a 2017 Ford Escape Titanium in the electric blue and my paint started bubbling and then chipping in 2020 on the driver's side windshield and now it is doing it on the passenger's side. I went to the Ford dealership where my car was purchased, and they told me my warranty will not cover this and instead gave me an over $2K estimate to fix the problem. They know this problem exists and do not want to own up to it. I will be willing to be part of any class action lawsuit if anyone wants to pursue it.
My daughter also has a 2017 blue ford escape. She is in college, and paying for her own college and paid for her own escape. The paint peeled on one side of the windshield back in August 2021. She paid to have it repaired. Now in January 2022, the other side is peeling and looks awful. It is so disheartening when she is working so hard, and this happens. So unfair. Ford SUCKS. They never take ownership for their product, and do not care about the working people of this country. We went through the spark plug issue of the 2006 Ford F150s. There was a class action lawsuit. We paid over $2500 for spark plugs, and received about $100 from Ford. Shame on you Ford. Our family will NEVER buy FORD again.
Also have a 2017 Escape titanium In white with 40K. It is at Dealer now with paint peeling on drivers side window pillar, waiting to get the estimate. This is my eight Ford, my first with peeling paint. Hope they fix this, I was looking for a new ford but now not so sure
