Glacial Energy of New Englad promised to save big on electric bill for companies. After a few months rates are doubled then they send a form for energy drop that states it will take a month or two do discontinue service, and customer service Senior Care Rep states that is it PSNH's fault not theirs. Not true PSNH says service immediately reverts back. I called NH Public Utilities Commission (Bob Rohnstock) he was very helpful. He said he would call them and I am not the first to complain. As a small business owner in this economy I am bothered that this company would take try to take advantage of business that might not pay attention to all bills that may increase slowly but substancially.

Glacial Energy provides a variable-based product at very competitive prices. "After a few months rates are doubled..." is a ridiculous claim. As a company, most of its customers are on short-term, no penalty to leave contracts, and Glacial Energy has continued to grow in all 15 states where it provides its product. This is NOT done by "doubling rates" on customers. If prices were higher in a few months' time with Glacial, they were higher for the overall wholesale market. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

As a small business in Massachusetts, we were solicited by a Glacial Energy salesperson. We were promised to save around $100.00 per month. Well the first month was only $20.00. O.K. maybe it will kick in next month, same thing $20.00. A far cry from $100.00. The next month went over by $96.00, the next month went over by $165.00, rates doubled, again they said it was not in thier control. B.S.! I cancelled after talking to Nat Grid rep. Also being told service will revert to them. Glacial Energy is a "rip-off"! Do not fall for thier "eco-friendly" presentation, they are a bunch of liars after your hard earned dollar...I have also filed a complaint with the BBB

First of all this customer could have canceled, and was given pricing that varies from summer to winter before they signed. As the truthteller6 stated, can't be successful in 15 states and have this happening. The BBB gives glacial A- rating for his knowledge and probably got the minus for one customer like him

GO GLACIAL! WE DON'T WANT MONYPOLOIES IN USA LIKE CON EDISON OR PG & E.

They have no scruples. I used to work for them, signing up large customers- and even though the cost of energy was trending down, they raised their prices (Glacial electrical prices are market driven) and the customer wanted to opt out of the contract. Glacial kept stringing them along stating they would fix the cost- but never did. Talk about ruining a business relationship, they are experts at deceptive practices. Stay with the monopoly and avoid this type of company- it's worth the 5% you might save by staying where you are.

Glacial Energy is a company that is in business to make a profit like all other well-run businesses. When energy costs are "trending down" any customer who is "locked in" at a fixed rate will DEFINITELY not see ANY of the corresponding lowering prices; however, Glacial Energy customers DO see a lowering of prices when energy prices trend down. That is a huge reason why the company has seen exponential growth since its inception in 2005! The average savings Glacial claims to save their customers is between 10-20% off the utility rate, and that has definitely been the case for me... Good value, very responsive customer service, and savings on a product we all use everyday. What more can anyone ask? As for heeding the "advice" of a disgruntled ex-employee? I'm not sure they are the most objective voice to consider, no matter the company name they were affiliated with.

Glacial products are not fixed- which blows your counter point. Glacial only offers market driven, variable products which ties into market fluctuations...meaning again, that all customers will not be locked into any pricing with the Glacial product. So, if the costs drop in the marketplace- the customers should see that reflected in their pricing- it should not increase.

Again, when the electrical product is priced as non-fixed rates as Glacial offers, the product is market driven and if the prices nationally are going down, Glacial's should be going up. If the cost is going up- against national averages, this means that the margins are being increased.

Today's competitive landscape indicates that customers are more savvy than that.

As a former employee of Glacial I can confirm that Glacial does in fact jack up a customer's prices as a normal business practice, until they complain at which point they may offer to lower the price or cancel the service. The entire model is designed to pump as much money out of a customer as possible. The company mentality is to make as much money as they can as fast as they can with no regard to ethics, sustainability or customer service.

Many of the problems within the organization can be traced back to the ego-maniacal owner and founder of the company Gary Mole and his army of "yes men". The man is a sociopath with zero regard for anyone who might tell him something he does not want to hear. The dysfunction at top has spread through the entire organization to the point that real problems, whether they be financial, technological or regulatory just get brushed under the carpet.

If you're considering becoming a customer of Glacial's I could not in good conscience recommend them. If you are a current customer I would strongly suggest that watch your bill like a hawk and call customer service at the first sign of a rate increase to complain. The squeaky wheel gets the kick and they make an effort to lower prices for customers who complain.

truthteller61 can stand up for Glacial's "legitimate business practices" all he or she wants but they know the truth. And if you're wondering if I'm disgruntled, I am not. I left on my own accord. I made many great friends at Glacial because despite its problems, Glacial attracted a lot of great people and I miss them dearly. It's just a shame instead of using the talents of these people to create what could be a well-run, exciting and fun company that may be slightly less profitable, Glacial has become hell-bent on collecting as much money as possible while it can.

Im a small business owner in PA. I was in a 3 year contract with a different energy provider at a fixed rate. I had just entered into this contract about 20 days prior when a glacial rep came into my restaurant. He promised me savings. I told him i was in a contract and he countered with "In PA you have 30 business days to back out of energy agreements as per law" I said i wanted him to MAKE SURE that was the case. He came in the next day saying he spoke with "corporate" and that they assured him it was the case. I subsequently cancelled my contract with my other provider. When they came knocking for thei 3, 000 dollar early termination fee i told what the rep from glacial had told me and they told me that was not the case. I tried to contact the rep but he wouldn't return my dozens of phone calls. Luckily, the other company was sympathetic to my cause and allowed me to continue my contract with them without the termination fee.

Obviously these are unethical business practices which are probably also considered fraudulent. I found this site trying to see if anyone started a class action lawsuit but unfortunately havent turned anything up yet. I figure my next phone call will be to my states attorney generals office to see what they recommend.

STAY AWAY from glacial energy and their shady business practices.

I have been using Glacial energy since July 2007. This is a variable product and you have to let it work for you. I have had great results and will continue to use them. I like the fact that you can leave at any time. Customer service is always there for you if you have a question. I think the complaints above are from competing companies who are trying to harm Glacial Energy who may be jelous at their successful growth. The bottom line is that companies do not grow from 1 state to all 14 deregulated states by ripping people off. The last complaint from Femalgina is funny, I have used Glacial for almost 3 years and don’t know who Gary Mole is. Sounds like a employee that was fired to me. Like I said, my experience with Glacial has been very good and I will continue to use them. A friend of mine pointed out this web site. After reading the so called complaints I felt that I should respond based on my experience with Glacial. For the record my company uses 560k kwh per month. we are a paper mill in New England. I have friends who also use glacial that are much smaller who have had the same experience as I.

thanks

I have thoroughly researched Glacial Energy before signing up our property management firm in Texas. I spoke to 5 current clients in Texas and the east coast. We signed up 12 months ago and have not had a problem at all. Our savings has been consistent at over 10% and the customer support people are there extended hours when our utility company was shut down. Some of the statements above sound manufactured and obviously from a person or two who want to cause harm to Glacial.

Glacial Energy can charge their customers whatever they want because there is no contract. If you sell a product, you know what you buy it for, and how much you can mark it up. The mark up in the energy business for a variable product is called an adder. It includes capacity, ancillary charges, line losses, plus profit. A reputable supplier will tell you exactly how much the adder will be - if you sign a 1 year contract, it should be stated in the contract. Just try to get an answer from Glacial Energy about what their adder is. You will not get a straight answer. That's because Gary Mole uses Glacial Energy as his personal bank. If you notice your rates are higher, and it isn't on a summer bill or a cold winter bill, it's your Glacial Energy rates hard at work paying the tons of money needed to open up a new market. Did you know that Glacial Energy moved it's office to the Virgin Islands to avoid paying taxes? Did you know that for a while in 2008 Glacial Energy stopped enrolling customers for a couple of months because they ran out funds to play in the energy markets? They have a great business model, which Viridian Energy, a new Multi Level Marketing Energy company is copying. I broker for Glacial Energy, but since I care about my customers and I want them to stay my customers, I stay far far away from Glacial. Very bad news. Their successful reps make tons of residuals, thousands of dollars a months, and their Directors make really good money, and they know exactly what they're doing.

Gary Mole is the owner of Glacial Energy. To save money, Glacial moved their headquarters to the Virgin Islands. They don't even pay taxes here! I have suppliers that offer variable rates, where the margin is locked in. They pay anywhere from 6 to 8 cents a kilowatt hour consistently. Glacial Energy hire sales people with no experience in energy, so they drink the kool aid. If they do have energy backgrounds, they value money over people. They make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in salary and commissions. It's hard to say no to that! And customers are very naive. Because there is no price to compare for large commercial customers, they have nothing to compare it to, and Glacial Reps, if they even know how to read a utility bill, aren't going to tell them where to find SOS rates. They're in 14 states because they lie ON PAPER about their savings. I'm sorry to say to their customers, but you've been duped in a big way. I'd be in denial about it too, if I were you. The best thing you can do is seek out a supplier that will lock in a rate for you with a contract. Good luck!

I have to agree with most of the negative comments. As a small business owner, my sales person seriously over-sold the savings. We would be lucky to realize 25% of the savings that were promised. We were not receiving our invoices on time, and sometimes not at all, but they of course pull the money through EFT like clockwork.

After my original sales person left glacial, a new one came along and asked me to sign another contract. They wouldn't tell me why... just that it was in my best interest to do so. I have since switched back to my regular power provider. Glacial turned out to be a colossal waste of time and energy for minimal savings. Classic case of over promise, under delivery.

My business was barely surviving financially and I was told by this slick salesperson who promised me that I would save 20% on my electricity bills. He said it with so much conviction and in such a reassuring voice, looking me directly in the eyes while holding my hands that I trusted him and signed up. It brings tears to my eyes and makes me very upset to know that nearly $1900, which is the cost of my wife's cancer medication for 5 weeks because the rates continued to skyrocket every single bill.

I have cancelled my services with Glacial Energy (which was the electricity) and now have to figure out how to come up with all the extra money that I don't have. I was taken advantage of by a company that saw it fit to deprive me of income used to pay for my wife with super high rates.

I am so sorry to hear your story. They do hire very good sales people. One large commercial property management company told me they signed up with Glacial because of the savings and the honesty of the sales rep. I had to stifle a laugh. And she's stuck for a year. No one likes to be "taken", and there are real savings to be had in the energy market. The problem is there is also alot of money to be made, which attracts lowlifes.

I disagree with everything that people wrote on this board. I am in a new Business Development Management job and know that we "save" customers 20-40% on their electrical bills. The moneyopolies of utilities all force fixed rate contracts with other junk fees thrown in down customers throats.

We purchase energy DIRECTLY FROM GENERATORS and THEREFORE we have the lowest prices with zero risk premium where prices can go down to 6 cents per killowatt. Check the energy trades to see! That is why we bill over the intranet.

I have been with the company for 2 weeks and have seen a quote at that showed a forecast of 18% discount and last year they saved 25%.

YOU CANNOT LIE ABOUT NUMBERS! THE NUMBERS TELL THE TRUTHS!

GO Glacial Electricity! These are just haters that are mad at our company!

Well, new Glacial employee, don't believe those pieces of paper, because they are all fictitious. I'll tell you where the truth is - look at your customer's bills. I bet they won't even let you see them! I just saw Glacial Bills from two customers, and they were charged .10 and .12/kWh. Fixed rates are at .08 and .09 per kWh, ALL INCLUSIVE, unlike Glacial who will never tell you what their margin is. Glacial buys their electricity on the market, just like every other supplier and utility and they email invoices because it's cheaper than mail. And they moved their operations to VI to avoid paying taxes. So you can believe whatever you want, but if you are smart, you'll figure it out yourself. My guess is you have never sold energy before. And your post sounds like you're trying to convince yourself, not us. Good luck!

I have worked in the energy business before with Just Energy selling fixed contract rates and gasoline and I am still an independent agent for them. Glacial is way cheaper and I have been going house to house and business to business and everyone is interested in saving 40% or more. My contracts that I offer with Just Energy are for 16 cents per watt and Glacial Electricity is 8 cents. Do the math. That's half off and you can't refudiate that!

You are crazy if you think the rates are that high. You must be thinking of the moneyopolies.

Glacial Energy still has not cancelled my services and sent me back to the utility. I cancelled on June 9th and I just received another invoice. This time it was for over 17 cents per kWh plus taxes. On just under 23, 000 watts I figured that it cost me almost $2500 extra. They ended up draining my bank account and forcing me into overdraft to simply pay expenses. I'll have to borrow from my 401k simply to stay out of debt.

TO ME GLACIAL ENERGY STOLE MY SALARY. I COULD NOT EVEN PAY MYSELF THIS MONTH BECAUSE OF THEIR OUTRAGEOUS CHARGES.

As a husband with a unhealthy wife, I do not have this money. They took advantage of me.

Glacial Energy with their debit payment form will drain your bank account and YOU CANNOT STOP IT.

Let's settle this nonsense once and for all. You want 1000% proof that what this guy said is a complete lie?
Easy. Call the NH Public Utilities Commission (Bob Rohnstock) like he asks you too in his blog and see what Bob says.
Bob will tell you it is complete nonsense and that he is furious his name is being used in a blog. End of story.

STOP LISTENING TO BLOGS PEOPLE! THINK ABOUT SOMEONE'S MOTIVATION, WHY THEY ARE WRITING THEM?
I am writing mine to set the record straight. Slander should never be tolerated.

As for me, I can sell anybody's electricity as an independent agent and I choose not to do it. Why? Use common sense.
My clients are happy and Glacial's rates are lower than everyone elses. We win most of the time.
Apply even more common sense: None of Glacial's clients are under contract and they can leave at any time. If all of our your clients were under contract and could leave at any time with no fee, would you mess with them? Of course not.

My customers are not idiots and enjoy saving a lot of money. Especially in this economy.
The people who write this garbage are Glacial's competitors that lose every day to them. Wake up folks...you are smarter than this. Stop listening to a blog.

Go to the Better Business Bureau where your complaint has to be verified, unlike a blog where anyone can write anything.
Once again, call Bob Rohnstock like the liar tells you to. Call him so you can realize that blogs are today's version of graffiti on a bridge.
We all need to only listen to sources who verify what they write and report!

Glacial Energy is either incompetent or miss-leading, and I don't claim to know which is correct. I spent 6 months building a book of business for them in my valley and was quite successful. They created proposals showing electric from 0.0702 to 0.0755 for a yearly index price. Yes I guess I was gullible, and so where my customers who bought millions of kWh, because electric when to 0.1375 or almost double what Glacial's beautiful proposals showed. Yep almost my entire book of biz is gone, and my income stream with it. These people will dupe anyone unless people like me post their real life experiences what can happen. Someone's comment above seems to try and relieve Glacial of responsibility because their agreements are month to month. That's true enough they do mention and PROMOTE "anytime cancellation", but that's it's almost laughable that price will actually go up. Glacial in not safe as a business opportunity for a sales rep. unless as a salaried position. When I came into Glacial and investigated them, THIS complaint board only had two postings, look at it now.

ask for references they have been around for 5 years and don't have any bigger than a local pizza shop an employees cousin runs. ask which client has been with them the longest. if you are selling for them and your last name is not Finley, you will not get rich. You will burn your friends and family, lose any credibility in the industry.

Take a look at the link below. It is from a Conn. utility showing Glacial lost 35% of their customers from Jan-June.

Congrats to Glacial Energy they have put me out of business. Please anyone who has been approached by a so called Business Development manager from Glacial, don't go to work for them. I was in kinda tough shape for $$ when approached by Glacial to market their product, but still did research the company and found almost nothing negative on the company. So I was off to the races selling their product starting in December 2009 and right through may 2010. Then the heat of June came and prices began to climb, till Sept. Glacial was at .01375 or .03 above the utility, PPL in this case. This will place me in the poor house, but it does not have to happen to you. Check out this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_lr7UahuzM for my story. Don't let it happen to YOU.

I too was a Glacial Energy BDM. I am sure you will get people to defend Glacial, and I am sure some companies did save for a while but they did jack the rates during the summer months to ungodly highs and then came back and said "well it was a unusually hot summer.

I can buy that only so far, but when I recently received a quote back from them for a new customer, a referral from an existing customer (before he knew his rate increased so high) The quote said the same old thing basic 18% saving.
But funny thing is when you looked at the prior year analysis which shows what the customer would have savedd had he been with Glacial, NO WHERE did it show how the rate spiked up in July and August.

Well when my referring customer called his friend to complain and said Glacial's rates may be too high, my new potential customer faxed over his new quote and showed him that the rates look good. I received a blaring call from my customer calling me and Glacial a bunch of lying and cheating thieves. He said we were deliberately hiding information.
This customer was a good friend and I did know what to do.

Know I rep for a company that is like a pricing hub. They allow me to offer all suppliers in a given area. Both fixed rates and index rates. They also pay me half the contract upfront. If I sell a one yr they will pay me 6 months on my first months check. It is all web based, I can even track my agents and their business on my site. These guys are light years ahead of Glacial Energy. Check it out http://yourutilitychoice.emexpower.com/affiliates

I am a pastor at a church with Glacial Utility Energy Electricity and I am concerned about our rising rates and our church budget. I was told that Glacial Energy is a Christian company.
