I prayed about it and decided to contact the sales representative who sold me on the Glacial Utility and they told me that Glacial Utility intentionally mislead me about what kinds of savings I would get and that they keep racheting up the electric rates. He said that he felt bad about how I was taken advantage of and that he was lied to by his boss.

I am done with these efforts of trying to beat the system and am sticking with PEPCO.

I received ANOTHER BILL from Glacial Energy. They charged me over 12 and a half cents per killowatt hour. I called up the salesman to complain and ask again why I wasn't switched and he told me there was a glitch and that he would take care of it.

He said that Liberty Electric Power is now part of the Glacial Energy fixed program only available to Glacial customers and that he could get me a guaranteed rate of under eight cents and that all the Glacial customers were taking the time to "lock-in" their "rates" since rates are low right now.

It seems crazy that Glacial would charge me so much money and then give me an offer to lock-in their rates at a lower rate. Something smells fishy.

I am the owner of an electricity brokerage in Texas. We have been in business for 8 years. A few years ago, Glacial came on the scene and started touting no contracts and the lowest pricing. What Glacial failed to tell their customers or most of their salespeople was that the lowest price was a variable rate program based on spot market pricing. During a large price decline period, such as [protected], variable rates looked great and outperformed fixed rate price options.

However, all of the risk inherent with volatile energy markets is placed on the customers that use a variable rate. A church with a tight budget should not use a variable rate product. If a bill doubles for a few months and this places a business at risk, then they should not use a variable rate. The salesperson should help the clients understand the risks of the different pricing options and help the customer enter into the appropriate contract (fixed rate vs. variable rate). Glacial Energy only pushed variable rate contracts with no exit penalties. There was no exit penalties b/c Glacial never purchased any of their customer’s future energy supplies in the wholesale market. Thus, if a customer left, Glacial was not left holding onto a wholesale contract for energy that they still had to honor.

Glacial’s approach was shortsighted and irresponsible. The Glacial approach is doomed to fail once energy prices bottom out and start to increase. Variable rates increase during these bullish trends and customers that had signed long term fixed rate contracts during low price periods will be better served. Glacial has been blight on deregulated electricity markets.

It is very interesting that the employees of this company (many if not most) know nothing about electricity or how the markets work. the business model of Glacial Energy is to hire any Tom, Dick or Mary to sell it's product. They want folks to sell their friends and relatives and badger small business owners. The pitch always ends so you can cancel if you want. A few notes to understand are : 1. Buying from the index (spot market) has it's pluses and minuses during the spring and fall prices are usually very good, the summer and winter depending on weather conditions (hot or cold) can be much higher. If you are willing to take risk there may be a reward. 2. most index products are based off of the RTO's of the utility so that anyone looking for the index price can find the number and verify it. The Glacial bill states that they use the Glacial market Price? Who sets that number the market...no Glacial. This is the only product on the market (that i know of) without a way to verify the actual prices on a monthly basis. Last the Index market in 2009 was a record low in 2008 was an all time high, so look at a 5 year average to determine if the index makes sense for your business.

I agree with Iluvmycustomers. I remember when I was brand new to the energy business and believed those pretty pieces of paper with nice pink and blue lines showing my customers that they could save money and add to their bottom line in a bad ecomony. NOT TRUE. As I learned the energy business, all on my own by the way, I realized they weren't honest. Some had low rates for a while. If you complained you got put on a "watch list" and then they would just lower your rates and raise someone elses to make up the difference. Their rates are not based on "the wholesale market of electricity". Their rates are based on nothing concrete. They have a laughable "Fixed adder" new contract with crazy language that says it's still based on nothing you can monitor yourself to keep them honest. They are out for money and then maybe they can get some company to buy the company and go off to another Island to do it all again. They already did this once in Australia you know.
Don't believe Glacial, feel bad for the hundred of sales people that call you each day. They want to keep their jobs and don't know any better.

I read about the Glacial Power deal on this website and was suspicious for asking for a price quote, but when I got it back it said that I could save tens of thousands of dollars, so I signed up. Free $$$ what's not to love w/no contract? The Glacial Power Business Developer also saved me over 15% by signing up my house with Verizon Power.

I'm a numbers person. And when I'm promised and guaranteed that I will save 17%, it's a "no-brainer."

I'm thinking about becoming a Glacial Power and Verizon Power Agent. Saving money is great.

What does it say the penalty fee is? I never heard them to have a fee.

After cancellation close your account as they will try to milk as much as they can
Refuse payment and they will lower the rate

I have a 12 moth contract and it states I will owe them 3 months if I cancel. Do they enforce that or do I have a legal claim not to pay them if they are overcharging me.

As a Christian and follower of Jesus Christ, I can no longer advise anyone to do business with Glacial Energy. I came in with lots of hope and belief that I was doing the right thing because "we had AFT billings and bought directly from the generators grid" but I founds out that this was untrue. My Regional Director claimed that he believed in Jesus, but lied to me and caused me to STEAL from CHURCHES, MINISTRIES and OTHERS. He SPIT on Christ.

I have heard that some of the leaders of the companies are in jail or heading to jail for fraud. The people at Glacial would abandon their wives and children and walk away from the Spirit of God in persute of hedonism, money, drugs and harlotry.

Another bill and another theft of the Lord's work. This is a real shame that they decided to increase the rate. People, and especially Churches, I beseech you not to enroll with Glacial Energy. They will empty your bank account.

Glacial is 100% a scam. First off they’re banks are located in the Virgin Islands (off shore). They require ACH payments which means that REQUIRE access to your bank accounts for payments. There is a real index and a glacial (fake) index. The real index is where glacial buys their power and the glaicial index is their made up price they sell the power to their unfortunate customers. That spread is where they make their money. They tell their reps that they are only making 3 mils but in reality they are making two or three pennys per kWh because they charge the customer the highest rate possible for all 24 hours of the day. As you know the index is an hourly product, so again, Glacial will charge their customers the highest hourly price for that day ALL 24 hours.

Glacial is also what is know as a ponzi scheme and we all know that ponzi schemes eventually blow up. The reason Glacial is a ponzi scheme is because they have to charge a price higher than the actual index price to make money. If they actual index price blows up to 15 cents, then glacial will have to charge 18 – 20 cents in order to make money. Rest assure, the real index will one day blow up. If a customer then goes from paying 7 cents to 20 cents the next month they will call the bank and suspend the ACH. When this occurs it will occur for all customers at the same time. If all customers then cancel with glacial at the same time then glacial will be left holding the bag on millions and millions of dollars of power that they will essentially have a margin call on from the ISO. If there is no accounts receivable for that month they they will go belly up that fast. It will only take ONE bad month on the index for glacial to go BK!

Again, if you do not financially hedge and fix your rate then there is a tremendous amount of risk on both the customer and the supplier. Just ask Franklin Energy (now out of business). This is the reason why Glacial requires ACH. because without it, if their customers ever decided to not pay, they would be left holding the bag on millions and millions of dollars worth of power. With the ACH they can just take what they want at any time. They turn their customers into theyre own personal piggie banks

so again, in my professional opinion, glacial is 100% a scam.
They own ZERO generation! they do ZERO hedging. You think the risk of an index blow up is on their shoulders? heck NO! its on the customers.

I feel for you reverend. I worked with a liar, and scummy director who everyone said cheated on his wife along with feeling excited about ripping people off and lying to them. This guy claimed to be a christian. I encourage any future employees and customers to STAY AWAY from Glacial Energy, Mr. Gary Mole, Mr. Steven Kraemer, and Mr. Jeff Ott. They are there to steal from you.

Glacial typically charges high administrative adders. The norm in the business is to charge a 3-7 mill administrative adder.

Glacial will charge a standard 30 mill adder. When trouble arises within the company they will charge upwards of 80 mill adders with the hopes that customers will not pay attention to their bill.

The funny thing is that Glacial boasts about having no contract when in realty having a contract is the most important thing in protecting customers. You can get the same product from WGES. WGES offers a month to month indexed product that require you to sign a contract. The contract discloses WGES's margin on the deal and they are not allowed to alter it.

Companies such as Glacial, Commerce, and Veridian will not have contract so they can manipulate their margin and participate in price gouging.

Personally I feel an index product is a the best product for price savings. You don't have to pay the premium that goes along with a fixed contract.

Typically with a fixed contract you will pay about 9 mills of a premium charge. You also have to try to time the market with a fixed contract. I would say 90% of the time an indexed product will out perform a fixed contract.

Fixed contracts are great for budgeting and that's what they are used for. The aren't really designed to beat the utility and capture the most in savings.

My former Glacial Energy sales person recently gave me a contract for Washington Gas and Electricity at fixed rate of 3 years for .0771. He told me that it was a special deal that they put together for all Glacial customers.

I think that you should all consider the Glacial Energy fixed Washington Gas and Electricity contract rate than their variable rate, which averaged over 13 cents for me.

I was just walloped with rates that were nearly 30% higher than they quoted me. Isn't this fraud?

Did you know that Glacial Energy has an employee who's job is to look for Glacial Energy complaints on boards such as these and write posts posing as a happy Glacial Energy customer (since none really exist). They go through sales reps like toilet paper, are being investigated in New Hampshire for fraudulent activity, and were dropped like a hot potatoe after by the National YMCA after becoming their "official partner".

Another of our properties was given a quote by Glacial Energy and it said that the average rate was 2 cents lower during the previous 12 months than it was on our last months bill. Smelling bait and switch I quickly called up the business manager that gave us this deal and he actually recommended a contract with Hess and gave me a GUARANTEED RATE which was lower than the FAKE rate that Glacial Energy gave me. He also said that his old boss wanted to start a lawsuit against Glacial Energy and that they were encouraging all Glacial customers to find another energy utility.

You need to stay away from Glacial Energy.

As a currently employed Business Development Manager with Glacial Energy, I can tell you that Glacial Energy is a scam. Our quotes are deliberately misleading.

I continue to sell their electricity because I like the salary and benefits. But since I hate to see people get ripped off, I make sure that most businesses do not stay with Glacial Energy for very long.

Like other employees (and even managers, or so I hear), I future customers with a good fixed contract at the time of their enrollment with Glacial Energy, so they sign two contracts at once. It goes into effect a few months after they enroll with Glacial Energy. I sell it as "rates will be low for the next several months, but let's lock in your rates before the summer rate spikes." It’s easier than letting them know that this POS product will soon explode, and if that doesn't work, I have my contacts at other suppliers contact them directly and manage the sale.

They are only stuck with Glacial Energy for a few months and as a side benefit, I enjoy seeing the heat come down on local management from the Finley's because of terrible customer attrition and terrible sales. It’s hilarious to watch it unfold…. But I’m nervous that I’ll soon be axed along with everyone else because we do nothing here that the telemarketing team couldn’t do more effectively and for less money in the Virgin Islands.

I cancel the contract and went back to BGE. Waste of money, this is a fraudulent company. No savings at all, spent a lot of extra money before realizing what was going on. Stupid me for believing in what the sales rep said. I hope they'll go out of business soon.

I started in oct 2010 and my rates have doubled until I called to complain and they gave me a $350 credit and was going to make my rate at .01c/kw over what they are buying it. The problem is you dont know what the rate is until you get your bill. They promised savings and THE NUMBERS prove that it is NOT true. If my next bill is up again I will switch back! I went from .06c/kw to 12c/kw in 7 months and they blamed it on the rate caps that came off in Pennsylvania. The company duquesnelight I had before has a fixed rate of .072c/kw so how is it higher with Glacier. The worst is not knowing what your rate will be!

You need to understand the Glacial Index and let it work and do the math. For example, since you paid 6 cents one month and 12 another and 17-20 (summer average is Glacial Energy), you divide that total by 3. Therefore, 6 + 12 + 20 = 38 divided by 12 months is 3.5 cents will be your average. That's how you derive the savings. People say Glacial is a scam with misleading quotes, but those people just don't understand the mathimathics and how you divide the average to arrive at the quotient (or yearly savings average). That means that if you use 1, 000, 000 KwH you will save $27, 000 per year or 7.2-3.5 times 1, 000, 000 over a year.
