HireRight Costing me a job

I am in a total state of shock about this company. I applied for a job and was told I was going to be hired and they needed to start the paperwork. I then recieved an email from hireright for a background check. Sure, no problem I thought...Boy was I wrong. I have been a truck driver for 33 yrs. I passed the background check for my TWIC and my HAZMAT. Hireright began asking for the impossible..they wanted documentation in the form of a W-2, 1099 or paystub for a company I began employment with in 1998..13 yrs ago! How am I suppose to supply that type of documentation from 13 yrs ago? I would have to go thru IRS or Social security to get that information and that could take weeks. Well hireright more or less told me "to bad". If I could not supply the documentation in the time allotted then they would close my background check and notify the company it is incomplete. So you know what that means...I JUST GOT LOST OUT OF ON A JOB I AM VERY WELL QUALIFIED FOR! They won't even call my past employers to verify. I even gave them the phone number of the employer who taught me how to drive truck in 1978. How many of you keep your paystubs or w-2's for 13 yrs? The worse part about all this run around..the job was only for 6 weeks...Every time I tried to talk with someone at hireright, I would always get a different person. I have emailed, never a response. And they wonder why there is so much unemployment!

I am sorry to hear about driver treatment at the hands of hireright. Companies using them to meet their DOT background check requirements are doing themselves a disservice. It is a lot of work to do the checks required by DOT and getting harder with every new requirement. More and more trucking companies try to shove their response duties off on these big screeners. This is the first one I encountered that refuses to give out driver background free of charge. Other systems at least allow you to get a five day turn around to get it by mail and charge the five to ten bucks if you want it right away. Hireright charges a minimum of twenty bucks and makes you sign your company up with them just to get one driver background check! Seeing how companies are treated it does not surprise me to hear that driver applicants are getting a bad wrap from them.

For those of you who stumpled upon this site, and others, and read all the horrible commnets about HireRight, I wanted to share my experience. I was offered a great job with a company on August 29th, contingent on drug test and background check. I submitted all my documents on the 29th, and then read all of the horror stories regarding their services. I must admit, I was very concerned, not becuase I had anything bad in my background, just did not have a strong comfort level after all that I read. Again, I submitted my on line info on the 29th, did not receive a request for any additional information, and was informed that I formally got the job on Thurs. Sept 6 (5 business days from when I submitted my info). Anyways, im sure you all have valid complaints, but I just wanted to share my experience, for the next person who has a job offer with a HireRight background check, and that none of the stuff people were complainng about happened to me. It was painless, besides the pain I inflicted on myself by worrying! Best of luck to all!

I am a truck driver and I've also gone through a similar situation I have 12 years of experience and now I can not find a good job, all I can do is drive I destroyed an ankle 13 years ago . I've never had accidents. but I changed jobs many times in the past 3 years. I get started working for FedEx ground 3 years after that I spent 7 years at FedEx National LTL and in late 2009 the company fired me for reporting 3 incidents in the same year.2 scratches in front of the trailer, with the fifth wheel and a scratch on the hood of a truck with the hook of my truck. I worked with them for 7 years, 14 hours a day I think U.S. is destroying itself I do not have a choice but to claim SSI as a disabled and move aside while others do my work. good luck

HireRight Company lies

Very unprofessional and unorganized. They send the same email for documentation they have already have. They do not communicate with and every time you call this company you get a different person. Very poor business ethic. I did not feel secure giving this company my personal information. I decided not to take the job with the company. Be advised I would think twice before giving my personal information to HireRight. If a company is doing a background Investigation using HireRight I would think twice about that company.

HireRight is the absolute worst background check company ever! They sent me threatening emails and left scary voicemails saying they will report me to the employer as candidate failed to comply and I will loose my job because they couldn't verify my education directly via the university. I sent them a copy of my transcript from my records but that wasn't goon enough for them. They needed it to come straight from the university, and within 24 hours. The national student clearinghouse, which is one of the most trusted source for college degree verification also verified my education, but they said they will only accept an official transcript and degree either mailed or faxed to them, and that too within 24 hours. No matter how hard I try there was no way to get an official transcript emailed or faxed to them within 24 hours. They also asked me to submit w2 and pay stub for a job that they had already verified though the work number. Calling and communicating with hireright representatives was a nightmare and migraine inducing process, because no one spoke english that you can understand if you were lucky enough to actually get a live human on the phone and then each time you call back with information or question it's a new representative, who has no idea what you're speaking about and doesn't understand english, and then you have to explain everything from beginning to end to this new representative. Also each hireright rep you speak with gives you a different/contradicting answers about what they needed and what you need to do to get the information to them. One rep actually sent me a facebook request and insisted that I accept their request, they said "it's a standard procedure for us to verify your social media and network to complete a successful background check" Maybe I would understand if they wanted to add me to linkedin but facebook? Really? What creeps! At some point I just lost it and called the recruiter and denied the offer because of how stressful the background check process was. I was actually very disappointed to have to deny the offer because it was a great offer and great job. I have gone through at least 8 background checks in the past, and there has never been a problem. Firms like JPM and Citi have performed a successful background checks on my employment, education, residential addresses, criminal and in some instances even credit, and I never had any issues. This was the only company that had so many problems verifying information. I think it's because hireright employee don't understand English very well since they are probably in India or Philippines or something. No offense to indian or Philippines but I just wish matters so serious such as background checks were done in the US by people who understand and speak English. Anyway, things actually turned out pretty good for me because I got a new, and even better offer, after I denied the offer due to hireright and their unethical and unorganized was of doing business. However, I feel bad for those who struggle to even get an offer, especially in this tight economy and job market. I wish employers would stop trusting and replying on such an awful company to perform background checks. I am surprised hireright is even business after all the fines, law suits, and all the complaints and even more shocked that reputable company like Thomson Reuters uses such an awful and mismanaged company to verify potential employees background data. In am happily employed now but if I ever change my mind, and end up in the job market, I will deny the offer even before background check process, if the firm hiring me uses hireright. Employers please stop encouraging this unethical, unprofessional, and unorganized company!

Horrible incompetence. Aquent (a huge national employment agency) has contracted this company. I can't understand why. Customer service is largely outsourced to the Philippines where no one even understands your questions or issues. They ask for crazy documents, like paper 1099s I may not even have kept, as proof of freelance employment, while rejecting the Federal Tax Returns I provided (which have been sufficient for any other background check I have been through). Good enough for the government but not for this background check? And the process is long, horrible, fraught with useless email chains, phone calls to offshore folks who don't get it. They are about to prevent me from starting work on the date I was hired to show up. I can't believe that this is what the employment agency or their end client really want to have happen. 2 weeks into this process with Hire Right and still not done.

Hello.
Hireright is doing my BGC for AIG.
I've been a non commissioned officer in french police forces, worked for American Express, and other companies.
I have been used to deal with very sensitive and private informations from customers. My past background checks have been done. It's quite obvious.
But today, with HireRight, I have the feeling I am a criminal, investigated by a kind of private police service.
It becomes very intrusive in my private life.
Even my last year sabbatical year in an organic farm, and some time with my family at Christmas time are on the grill.
Don't forget HireRight is a PRIVATE company. Not a governmental institution.
I decided to stop "playing the game" with them.
And it is impossible to find a good comment in all the different forum I found on the net.
Seriously, this company is utterly ridiculous.

Hireright just told me that I did not have my GED. I sent them picture of the GED but they still state that it cannot be confirmed. They never follow back with the information that you give them either and found out you are always the one that is wrong and they never are. so this company will cost you a job since they don't really care.

This is the most unprofessional company ever! I've been waiting on my background check for 3 weeks. The keep changing the estimated completion day. It's been changed 4 times. I wouldn't suggest anyone use this incompetent company! They're about to make me lose out on a position because of how slow they are. I'm sure they've made more people lose positions than they have helped.

I have to deal with hireright all the time because I do Truckdriver background checks. I agree about not sending them your information. I often recieve questionaire from the potential employer as well as hireright. If I do I respond directly to the employer. I think corporations sign up with hireright but the actual personnel office or hiring department knows it does not work and just does it themselves. More than once they have sent me pages of the applicants information that I should not have and one of thier customer service reps told me on the phone that if I wanted to get the drivers background info free of charge I should just use the info off his application on the online order page and order a personal copy acting as if I were him! I would encourage drivers/applicants to tell employers about their experiences. I keep waiting to hear of them getting in trouble with the U.S. DOT for not coughing up driver backgrounds without making companies join their club or with U.S. Courts for their casual use of personal info.

HireRight HireRight Cost me a Job

HireRight said I lied about the dates of Employment on a Job. They gave me a short time to disprove this by faxing in 5 year old Tax returns I didn't have when I was out of town on Business. I was given 48 hours to do this.
I requested a copy of the Final Report, It turns out, and that they called the wrong company. By the time I found out and saw the final report, it was too late.
The other terrible thing on the report was that the marked my Masters Degree with a discrepancy. It turns out the end date of enrollment was allowed to be left blank on their form. Although the start date, the Degree date was correct, they said they had to mark it a discrepancy because the last date attended I gave them (blank) didn’t match what they verified. This doesn't sound bad but your degree shows up on the final report with a big RED (discrepancy) mark on it.
If HireRight makes a mistake, you won’t know until it’s too late. You are considered guilty until proven innocent. Also they will mark a big red discrepancy on your degree if you leave anything blank even though the degree is correct, school is correct and date and month is correct. So you better remember what day Grad school started in August of 1996, or your degree will show up with a big red discrepancy on the final HireRight form. Why do they do this? It turns out for every discrepancy they have to verify, they get a surcharge.

How many people are needlessly unemployed because of this company and others like it?

I haven't found them reasonable or professional as required and expected to meet the minimum standard.

They are lacking with sufficient depth of skills and knowledge for the service they provide. There is also some problem of honesty, and truthfulness in there overall work.

I will never recommend them to anyone.

I don't know why legitimate companies choose Hireright. It is unreliable, unprofessional and I think its a scam. I am fortunate I do not have to deal with them directly but with the good agent of a staffing company. He himself was frustrated with Hireright. Here is what happened. When I filled up their online form they only have 3 spaces to input previous employers. After Filing everything out they said there is discrepancy. Of course, you dumb [censor] you provided only 3 spaces for previous employer. So I had to redo the application over this time they provided more spaces. And of course the first one generated a schedule for a drug test which I did. after filling up the second application they said there is discrepancy on the dates. I don't think any real person reads the applications because the email is computer generated. If some real person really read that they would have seen that all of those were freelance jobs. It is the nature of freelance jobs to have gaps in employment you dumb [censor]. and of course this second application generated a second drug testing schedule which I completed. Then I get those computer generated emails telling me to upload the W2s and 1099s. Yet in the section of Information Received I can see all of those that I uploaded including the ones they are asking. So I uploaded a second time and now there are 2 copies of the same files. I get the acknowledgment emails (6 of them) stating that they have received the information. The day after I received another email telling me to upload the same things. So I uploaded a third time. Now there are 3 copies of the same thing. But when my agent looks at it he doesn't see the what I uploaded and looks like it does not updated. I even sent my agent a screen grab copy of what I see in my account and lo and behold all the files are there. Yet the Agent couldn't see them and even the Hirerigtht customer service couldn't see them. and of course I get another computer generated email for a drug testing schedule. Oh and here's one other thing. The computer generated email said they could not reach this certain employer. Of course you can't reach them. If you read what I checked in the form I checked that this is out of business you dumb [censor] why don't you check online yourself. if there is discrepancy Hireright basically calls you a liar. Why don't you fix your system instead of ruining honest peoples lives. This went on for 2 weeks and in the end the would be employer rescinded the job offer. And the agent couldn't do anything about it.

I may have lost my job because of Hire Right. I am still waiting to find out. I was the first person that my employer decided to use Hire Right on, despite the fact that I was hired there previously (moved away and came back). I had an unpaid internship with Hire Right demanded tax forms for (UNPAID i.e. NOT MONEY = NO TAXES). They also demanded verifications of employment at a university. I never said I worked at this university, I said I was attending the university and would graduate in May. Why they thought I worked here, I have no idea. They also could not verify that I worked at a previous employer and said no one could verbally confirm that I worked there, despite the fact my friend who still works there said he spoke to someone about me from Hire Right and said I work there. Completely awful service.

Horrible company and experience. Received my dream job offer and written job offer so I turned in notice to my current employer. Assumed all was in order and given a start date for the new job. A week later I get an email from Hire Right asking me to confirm my SLP license. I'm a licensed social worker which is completely different. I call Hire Right who confirms they have all the info for my social work license, but needs the info for my SLP License. After much back and forth, Hire Right tells me they are going to call the employer and tell them I don't have a professional license. I argue that I do, a social work license, and that the position is not even for a SLP, it's a social worker job. hire right cannot tell me why they were asking for this information and said I would hAve to talk with the hiring agency. Fast forward another week. I get another email from Hire Right asking to verify one of my employers. This was an employer I worked at 8 years ago for only 10 months. The company was bought out and they did not keep any employee records. However, they did refer me to their corporate office and I spoke with someone who cofirmed they could verify my employment dates. I provided their contact info to hire right. In the mean time I tried to track down my W2s and was able to find one for the 2009 year, but not 2008 (unfortunately those 10 months crossed over a year). I called the IRS to request a copy of the 2008 W2 and was informed they could only provide a copy of W2s from 7 years or less. Great. I supplied the 2009 W2 to Hire Right thinking at least this will prove that I did work for this company. Days go by and I heard nothing. I called the employer corporate office and spoke wth the representative who told me that Hire right never called her to confirm my employment and that she tried calling them and left a voicemail that was never returned. I called Hire Right and they confirmed they never even tried to call the corporate office because I supplied a W2 for 2009. Hire right said they marked my background check with a discrepancy because they couldnt verify the dates for 2008. They didn't even try to call! They told me there was nothing they could do now because the report had already been sent to the employer. I called my employer and basically the job offer is now in the process of being rescinded because of Hire rights inaccurate report. I explained to the employer that all of my other 10 years of employment history was confirmed, except for the 5 months in 2008 that I worked for this one company (and provided a W2 for 2009 proving I worked there). I stressed that Hire right admitted they did not call the corporate representative, but it did not matter. Now I have lost out on a great job and am unemployed because I had already turned in my notice to my current employer. How does this company get away with destroying lives like this? How is this legal? I filed a dispute on their website and have heard nothing back. Shame on you Hire Right. Completely ridiculous and I am now unemployed because of your lack of professional reporting.

Hireright is the worst company ever. They outsource their work. They ran my background and cost me a potential employer. They said I had a felony warrant in my state. The name didn't match only the birthdate. They did nothing to verify it was me just assumed and forwarded it on to the employer and they took back the job offer. I'm also looking to hire a lawyer for a lawsuit. I urge employers to not use this company. Now I'm left cleaning up this mess.

Hello everyone, if you are reading this, it's probably because you have a weird feeling about the questions Hireright asked you for your background check! Well it's March of 2016 and I recently had an interview at a warehouse, got offered a job and then was told that my background would be done by a third party, didn't think anything of it. Then filled out the online form for this company to conduct my background. They wanted to know about all of my employers (again) phone numbers and dates of employment, (weird) I thought backgrounds were to check my criminal history, not my whole life. So I just had a bad feeling about it all day, I had never had a job use a third party for background check! Decided to go online and found lots of bad reviews on hireright background checks! They provide the company with false and inaccurate information, ask for irs paperwork to prove that you are not a liar...just very stupid obstacles to get a damn job! If a company needs to know that much about me, NO thanks, I'll go elsewhere! Then I found out hireright is in another country, and they have people sitting behind a computer all the way in India fishing through my all my info over here! So I immediately called hireright and told them to please discard of all of my information! I longer wanted the position! I'm not going to risk my identity being stolen from a company based in India, just for a warehouse to pay less on a background check. So if you have a company trying to do a background check with "Hireright" just say No thank you to the job offer because you are most likely not going to get the job or possibly have your identity stolen!

HireRight Employment

For you drivers out there trying to get your lives straightened out because of a bad DAC report, I feel compassion for you. I worked there. The managers of the "consumer department" do not allow their employees to take calls-any calls-even from fellow employees. They are afraid they will actually have to talk to you. Only the salespeople and a small group of customer service folks at this company have passed the grade of having sense enough to speak to the public. The almighty dollar and saving each other's brother or cousin or whatever is all these "new management" types really care about. In the last 4 years, integrity has gone out the window. The old line DAC people have been let go by one device or another because we cared too much. Band together-refuse to work for a HireRight company. Stand on your integrity. It won't take long. The trucking companies aren't getting a fair shake or good service either. It won't take them long to change.

Fairness is not part of the Hireright creed. The company culture is political and has no connection with meritocracy. You need to to investigate the tulsa manager of consumer relations and compliance!
