employee attitude and racism
One of the Princeton BC employees was at Dairy Queen and made a huge issue about not being served quick enough and made nasty racist derogatory comments to the East Indian and Phillipino staff. He was shouting from the drive through and annoyed other customers at the same time. All this was videoed and the person is now being banned from Dairy Queen. Not the first time this low life white trash has done this and is losing Home Hardware business.
Is this what Canada is, a racist nasty society?
It appears it is.
A disgusting person.

At the kitchen department I asked for some soft close hinge adapters for my cabinets. Ones that I had bought there before for a few dollars each. Tammy said she didn't have any but would order them and included the cost on my bill with some crown molding that she ordered for me. I picked everything up a few weeks later. When I opened the box at home I discovered that she had ordered me complete hinges with integrated soft close mechanism. I took them back and she said there were special order. I nicely reminded her that those were not what I asked for and that what I asked for was a stock item. She seemed irritated and was rude to me right away. She said she would have to find her order form and get back to me. I asked why and she said she had to find out what her cost was. I asked why that mattered and she said because it was special order. I didn't want to argue so I politely asked her to give me a call when she had it figured out. I went back in a couple weeks later because she is never available when I tried calling and she said she hadn't had time yet. It has been two months now and haven't heard anything. I emailed the Home Hardware customer service from the main website and received no response. I would like my money back. It is about $100. I never asked for those and she did not tell me that she was ordering special order hinges. There needs to be someone I can talk to. When I call the store she is never there. When I go to the store she is never there. When I do call I'm left on hold for 10-20 minutes only to find out that she's not there. I was patient but not anymore.
treatment of employees
I know someone who worked at the Baker st Home hardware in Nelson BC. The manager brought in his son and a couple other employees who are less than useful in helping clients. Then when they needed to cut hours they cut this mans hours instead of cutting the time of the last employees hired.
They knowly put him in a position where he was the sole employee in the business where he had to repeatedly lift, load and unload excessively heavy items by himself, Large BBQ's Chimney inserts, building supplies etc all in excess of 50 to 100 pounds and greater.
They did this knowing he would not shirk the responsibility to his customers and employer and that he had previous injuries that should exclude him from such detail.
The managers son (newest employee) spends most of his time at work in the bathroom for 30 minutes at a time and when he is not he is sending clients out the door mad as heck for the pitiful service.
Another Employee wanted time off and when he didnt get it he threw a fit and called his wife down to talk to the manager to pressure him to give him the day off.
To top it off when this man went into work to pick up his check the manager handed him a birthday card and then immediately told him they were cutting his hours to two days a week.
basically here is a card happy birthday good luck feeding your family.
It sounds as though your friend has the same problen I do. I work at a Home Hardware in Newfoundland. It too is family owned, myself and one other employee are the only non family members. We both had hours cut, but the newest employee did not. We were there years longer but that doesn't seem to matter. A happy employee is a loyal employee...pfft. I'd leave in a heartbeat if given the chance!
return policy
bought a BBQ from home hardware used it once did not like it for several reasons attempted to return it and they would not take it back gave excuses, from now on Im shopping at canadian tire and wallmart, they would take it back no questions asked,
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
It may be because you can't return something used just because you decided "you didn't like it". No wonder prices are so high with jerks like you returning stuff on a whim. They can't resell a used BBQ.
home owners, being losers to home owners!
went to their store in Estevan and was given the worst treatment by the CokeHead owner. I was looking for a piece of board that I needed to get cut, he said they don't offer that and was a total rude ### about it. My co-worker goes there a day later and gets the royal treatment walking out of the store with the piece of wood that they cut for him! I will add, that I was being very pleasant about everything. I don't know if Gary Schilling didn't have his snort of coke that morning but I'm not impressed by his way of doing business or his ideas on how to treat a non-cokehead customer.
every time i go to home harware at cloverdale mall, they never have what their flyer states, and that is going the day that the flyer begins. I wonder if they only have one in stock
returning a poorly performing garden tool
Bought a weed whacker from Imperial Hardware to remove dandelions from my lawn. This gardening tool performed poorly. It removed large chunks of soil with each weed and left lots of holes in the lawn. It did not remove weeds growing on a slope or close to the edge of a sidewalk or a pathway. After using it on a few weeds I took it back to this store where they refused to take it back because "it was not defective". They were not interested or receptive to the fact that this tool did not perform. I was told to contact the manufacturer (I believe the weed whacker is made in China). I paid about $ 37 for it. I just left it at the store. Do not shop at Home Hardware as they do not stand behind their products.

horrible customer service
I have experienced some of the worst customer service from the eganville (reinke's) home hardware and on nearly ever occasion I was a customer at this home hardware location.
The first time I tired to buy a pump for my air mattress, as I was camping in the area. After several assurances from the staff that I had the right pump (something I questioned) - I purchased it. Oh course, it was the wrong type of pump entirely - as I had questioned - but when my partner tried to return it (after our camping trip) he was told it was longer than a week - so we were given store credit instead of our money back. When my partner asked about their 30day return policy, he was simply told that didn't matter. Not living in the area, we were never able to use the 'credit'
The second time I returned to this store I had moved to the area and needed potting soil. The most expensive brand had a significant rebate - so the helpful staff put several bags in my trunk - but, on trying to pay, the cashier knew nothing of the rebate (right in the flyer on her desk) and I had to pay full price - feeling too bad to have the lot moved from my trunk
The third time I reluctantly went to this store I needed ant traps - and spotting some seeds clearly marked 1/2 price (also in flyer) a grabbed a few packs. Oh course I was charged full price - but didn't notice until I got the receipt, and felt to petty complaining over the few dollars, with a line behind me.
The forth time... I know, should have learn't buy now, but its a small town : (and I had to get a key cut. After taking the key, the staff proceeded to take a personal phone call - of no real importance - lasting a few minutes. Meanwhile, another customer had come to the counter - and she then proceeded to spend the next several minutes helping him before us! We would have just left but she already had our key!
I can not believe the horrible customer service, total disregard of company policies and utter rudeness of the staff (sometimes I wish I had some myself, but for now i'll just have to rant here!) I definitely will never give
opps...do NO longer shop there
I agree...I do longer shop there, I just wanted to warn others, and maybe rant a little ;) However we live in a rural area, its 20km to the nearest small town (i.e 1300 pop.), 45km to a larger. So it was sometimes out of regret but convenience. And, unfortunately the small town thing also comes into consideration for maintaining good relations with everyone for our particular jobs.

home hardware complaints - bad service
I bought ~3000cad stuff from them 2 years ago when they had "double the aeroplan miles" deal. They couldn't add the miles as the system was down at the time of the purchase so they took down all my details. I stopped by two weeks later and they were still not added. Again they asked for all the details. I recently realized that they were never added so I went and talked to them about it. Manger said that they have no records as their computer system has since changed and rudely insisted that there was no mistake done by "home hardware" by not adding the aeroplan miles. I will never shop there.
bad service
This is the worst "individually owned" home hardware I have ever encountered in my entire life. The staff know nothing of what they are selling (maybe there should be better training?), although some try to help they simply dont have the tools to do so. I met the owner of the store and he is one of the most classless, cheapest men I met. Jerry dolynchuck. He was unhelpful, he was rude, he blamed his staff (even though they tried to help me as much as they could), he is a coward and a phony. Just because he raises money for the food bank at christmas dont be fooled. He is also sexist and demeaning. As a woman I felt belittled and insignificant, because of him and his inabilitly to help me or even keep me as a customer happy, I am officially boycotting all home hardwares. Thank you jerry for showing me what a terrible human being looks like in person.

crappy service
I was both amazed and stunned at how staff at ross bay home hardware on fairfield road in victoria, british columbia, canada handled a return issue I had today. I was hoping to return a pair of $10 pliers I had purchased the day before and never used. What I got instead was a wheelbarrel full of attitude in a day and age when big box stores continue to draw customers away from smaller hole-in-the-wall retailers like home hardware. First I was told I there was no return on tools, exchange but no return, employee's comment we don't want to turn into a tool rental business. I then ask if I can return it for anything else in the store. One guy says yes, the other no and this after they made faces to each other behind my back while I was trying to make this issue unfold seamlessly. One of these guys was the manager! I even had to go on to explain (nervously because I was stunned at the accusation I had used the tool) the tool hadn't been used at all and in fact hadn't come within 2 metres of the area where I was installing a faucet. Hardware employee again accused me of using the tool because the shoddy chinese packaging was cracked. I left without an exchange or my $10. Amazing in this day and age that this is how customers are looked after in such a competitive business environment. I am done bringing my business to this location as is my family. Unbelievable about wraps up the whole episode. I was an entrepreneur for years, I never in all my time treated a customer so poorly. If you are bitter about something that happened in the past where your customer relationships are concerned do not take it out on me. I was flabbergasted. I now know the power of word-of-mouth for consumers. I intend to exercise my right fully.
I watched the cashier give a little girl hell today. The little girl picked up a $3 flashlight beside the register and it literally fell apart. The cashier gave her [censored] and proceeded to lecture her on how you buy a product before you take it apart.
My god what is wrong with you woman?
failure to warn customers of danger
People's lives are at risk.
Hardiplank is siding that is becoming very popular. The problem, is the company themselves, jameshardie. Ca, does not recommend that people install it themsleves. Only trained professionals should install it, because the dust contains silica, which causes cancer.
Home hardware sells the stuff to people, without warning them of the importance of using a respirtor, and home hardware does not tell the people it is recommended for a professional ot install it.
I phoned hardiplank, and they said it is home hardware's fault, they didn't warn me. I phoned home hardware, and they said it is the customer's own responsibility to learn how to install it properly.
Warning - do not attempt to install it yourself.

false information on exchanges
Trying to exchange a broken heater sold to me 8 months ago, a staff member on the phone told me "sure, bring it in and we'll exchange it!" I arrive and firstly, no customer staff at the front at all, like a deserted store with no hope of business. Older chubby guy comes up finally and I mention the exchange to which point he refuses. I mention his staff told me to bring it down and exchange with original receipt and original packaging and still he refuses any accountability. I ask for a discount or mark down on existing in store merchandise and still nothing is done. I highly advise any Banff area locals to stay the hell out of the Home Hardware in Banff. Lousy service and running a scam operation if ever there was.

I totally agree, this Home hardware in banff is overpriced, crappy service, no selection, bad hours...horrible experience. I make a list and drive into Calgary if I need something. The savings in the markup alone pays for my gas.
homehardware disrespects consumer
I bought a cam of Beauty Tone spray paint ath this store yesterday (July 16). A can of spray paint is supposed to cover 25sq feet. This one only covered about 6sq feet and the paint was over! I went back to the store, explained what happened and the store manager said that it was not possible for the can to have been used before, laughed at me in front of other customers, as if I was lying. Obviously, there was some problem with that can - it either had been previously used or there was some fabrication defect (it's a HomeHardware product). None of this was taken into consideration by the rude manager.

plugged in my fire tablet and the usb cable caught on fire
Never purchase Home Hardware 'Classic' brand heaters, they will not provide service when stores cannot answer important product questions, like; how do I buy a replacement air filter not stocked in the store?
And their 877 number is useless.
They do not honor sales in their own flyer apparently there a different Home Hardware then the Home Hardware flyer they can pick and choose to honor them what they like to or not
Have been in homehardware alexandria ont and would not refund à product that did not fit which à salesman told me to bring back in the case it did not fit
I am 8 months pregnant with a toddler and carry a small backpack because it's easier than a shoulder bag. And was told to leave my backpack in the customer service. Either they were being racist or stupid or ignorant. Either way their policy is stupid as they claimed it was their policy.
