Terrible Experience at Ace Hardware La Puente: Incompetent Staff and Management
I recently visited the Ace Hardware store in La Puente and was hoping to get some assistance with a window bracket. The cashier was kind enough to direct me to aisle 14 and buzzed for another associate to help me out. However, when I got there, nobody was around to assist me. Just as I was about to leave, a young man approached me and asked if he could help. He told me he needed to take a call and would come back to me later.
Feeling a bit lost, I decided to head towards the back of the store where I saw a sign that read "Customer Service." I waited patiently for over 10-15 minutes, hoping someone would come to assist me. Finally, a guy named Michael came to the counter to help me out. However, I could tell he was not very experienced or knowledgeable about the product I was looking for.
To make matters worse, an older employee who was bald and wearing glasses came over and was extremely rude to me. I told him I needed help with a broken bracket, but he continued to be rude and unhelpful. Then, the so-called manager on duty, Mark, came over with an unprofessional attitude. Terrible Customer Service and Return Policy at ACE Hardware in Brooklyn
I gotta say, I had a pretty bad experience with ACE Hardware. Specifically, the ACE store located at 2266 Nostrand Ave in Brooklyn. Let me tell you, their customer service is just plain awful. I had a question about their return policy and the staff there just straight up ignored me. I mean, come on, that's just rude.
And it didn't stop there. When I tried to get my complaint resolved, I was met with even more incompetence and bureaucratic nonsense. The local store management was dismissive and unhelpful, and ACE's corporate customer service department was no better.
Here's what happened: I was told that I could return my items within 30 days with a receipt. But what they didn't tell me was that the items had to be unopened. So when I tried to return my "like new" items, I was met with resistance and a dismissive attitude. I even offered to accept store credit instead of a refund, but they wouldn't budge.
So I tried to escalate the issue to the corporate level. I made four phone calls and ACE's customer service department reached out to the store twice. But nothing was resolved. They even tried to misdirect me by telling me to apply to their Rewards Profile program. And when I asked for a refund, they told me to go to another ACE store. I mean, seriously? That's just unacceptable.
Overall, I feel like ACE Hardware doesn't value their customers or their experience. And if you're thinking about shopping there, you should know that their return policy is pretty terrible. I'd recommend going to Lowe's or Home Depot instead. Trust me, you'll have a much better experience.

My friend decided to take advantage of this offer and went to the Ace Hardware franchise store in or near Mineral Springs, North Carolina to purchase a $13 bag of chicken feed. However, the owner of the store refused to honor the coupon, despite the legal wording stating that there were no exclusions. According to the coupon, my friend should have received a 50% discount on the chicken feed, but the store owner decided not to apply the coupon because he claimed he could not make enough profit on such a low-priced item.
My friend was understandably upset by this treatment and informed the store owner that he would not be shopping there again. I reached out to the corporate Ace Hardware website twice to request that they send my friend a coupon for a free bag of chicken feed to make up for their poor customer service and failure to honor their legal coupon offer. Unfortunately, they have not responded to my emails, which is disappointing.
As a result, I am writing this review to express my dissatisfaction with Ace Hardware and their failure to make things right for my friend. I hope that others will take note of this experience and think twice before shopping at Ace Hardware stores across the USA. It seems that these stores are allowed to make up their own policies as they see fit, which is not fair to customers who expect to receive the advertised offers.
In fact, I have noticed that small hardware stores like Ace Hardware are beginning to act worse than big box hardware stores. Disappointing Experience at Ace Hardware: Lack of Military Discount for Veteran Customer
I visited Ace Hardware store located at 7586 Mountain Creek Parkway Dallas, TX *** on 3/19/22, at 12:19 pm. I have been a regular customer of this store for a few years now and have always been treated with respect and honor as a Military veteran. I have always received a 10% discount upon showing my Veterans I.D. However, on this particular day, I experienced one of the worst management and cashier situations I have ever encountered in my life.
When I received my receipt from the cashier, Kathy, I noticed that I only received a $1.00 discount from a $63.85 purchase. I immediately notified Kathy that I only received a $1.00 discount and that a 10% military discount should be around -$6.38 off of the purchase. However, Kathy replied that there wasn't anything she could do. I was disappointed and frustrated, so I asked for a refund so I could go to another competitor that honors their Veterans and get my 10% discount.
After receiving my refund, I asked for a manager and explained the situation to Andrew, who was the manager on duty. I showed him my ID again, and he tried to enter the military discount, but the system only allowed a $1.00 discount once again. Instead of Andrew being the manager and having the capability to override the system manually and entering the 10% discount for a veteran, Andrew politely apologized and acted like there wasn't anything he could do.
I was disappointed and frustrated that I had to travel 5 miles to Home Depot in Cedar Hill to purchase my item and receive my 10% discount, which I should have received from my local Ace Hardware store located less than a half of a mile from my home. This location needs major training, and Andrew being the manager should understand the importance of keeping a loyal customer and making sure veterans receive their discounts for picking Ace to shop at while Lowes and Home Depot offer the same incentives for their veterans who choose to do business with their companies.
There needs to be training at this location because this should have been a simple override, and a 10% discount entered by the manager. I hope that Ace Hardware Customer Care at ***223 will take action and retrain this location because it is needed seriously if it wants to continue to get its market share, which is supported by local homeowners. I don't want this to happen to another Veteran at our local Ace Hardware store.
In conclusion, I hope that Ace Hardware will take this matter seriously and provide better training to their employees, especially the management, to ensure that their customers, especially veterans, are treated with respect and honor. I will continue to shop at Ace Hardware, but I hope that this situation will not happen again in the future.

Well, when the package arrived, I was disappointed to find that it was the wrong thermostat. I contacted customer support and they told me that they no longer carried the one I needed. I was really upset because I had spent all this money on a thermostat that wouldn't work. I tried to return it to the local store, but they wouldn't take it because they didn't carry that item. Ace Hardware: Overpriced and Unhappy Employees
Ace Hardware is a franchised hardware store that is part of the world's largest hardware corporation. As a franchise, they must buy their named merchandise from the parent company, which means they make nothing and buy everything, mostly from China, just like Walmart or any other similar store. This results in inflated prices, governed only by "all the traffic will bear." In 2017, they had 5,008 stores, even though there was a massive move of their "partners" to get away from them only 2 and 3 years before. This means that their prices will never be lower, as their goods are already 4th hand by the time they reach the store. That's China, their distributor, the corp, and the store profit all piled onto your pocketbook.
An example of this is a set of three "crafts" tools that were bought a few years ago from a New Orleans French Market vendor. This was a pair of thin needle-nose pliers, a diagonal snip, and a pinch shears, all about 5 inches, in a folding case. The set cost $3, no tax, and was made in China. About two years later, the exact same pliers were seen at Mary's Hardware (Ace). The pliers alone were $12.99. (they now also sell a 6 inch version for $18.99, and a 6? for $22.99)
If we look at the breakdown of this, the vendor made a profit at $3 for three in a case. You have to figure the vendor bought his though a distributor, and the typical markup being 100% for each, makes 300%, meaning the set was 75? from the factory, $1.50 at the distributor, and $3 to the buyer. Ace Corp bought these pliers then, without a case, for one third of $1.50 or less, but call it 50?. Since their retailer can't mark it up more than 100%, that means they sold a 50? pair of pliers to Mary's hardware for $6.50. A 700% increase. $13 to us. This is why their prices are high, and their own people are leaving them in droves.
There are additional factors to this that make virtually everyone besides the Corp Biggies unhappy with this situation, including their own "cooperative" members, which falls down on their employees, which in turn falls on our heads when we go into one of their stores. Many reviews on them are negative, with at least 50% saying they will never go back. At the Ace Hardware site itself, there were only two positive reviews out of eight years. At Consumer Affairs, they have Ace Hardware at a 1.2 rating with 80 complaints out of 95 "votes." Their next (last year's) page having 79 out of 94 as complaints for the same 1.2 rating. Out of all these negative reviews, around half are about "policy" (Corporate of course), and half about rude employees.
I bought a bike U lock, Masters, from Mary's Ace Hardware, for a premium price, and the key wouldn't open it without jimmying and wriggling. I took it back, with the receipt, and was told I'd have to send it to the manufacturer (at my own expense!) So I said, "I bought it from you, you made the profit, you send it back." "Oh no," she said, "We can't do that, it's store policy." (meaning Corporate policy, and part of their "training"). I asked her, "What about your 100% Satisfaction Guarantee then." Which is written on all their products, But! I searched about 15 versions of that online and and none came up with That, only returns and refund policy. Except there are no "refunds" either, only "In store credit vouchers," meaning once they've got your money you'll never see it again. Then this woman started to get irritated and sharp with me, "That's for 'Our' products. You'll have to send That back to the manufacturer." I told her, "I only want an exchange. Your "policy" doesn't say on selected items, it says 100%. This thing doesn't work, I'm not satisfied. I want another one, not a fob-off that's going to cost me more money and some month or so without a lock on my bike." And she said, "I can't help that. That's the way it is." "So you're not going to honor your guarantee," I asked. "That's the way it is," she replied again. "I want to see the manager." "I Am the manager," is what I got back. "I see. Well I certainly won't be coming back here anymore," I threw at her, and got, "That's fine too," for my trouble.
Amongst these reviews, there are excuses for every contingency. For example, if you paid cash, you'll have to wait two weeks for a check in the mail. Tax on specials is charged on the original price, then the discount is taken off. Ace policy states that returned machinery, still in its box, unused, must be sent to their (own) "mechanic" for verification, which (two weeks later) then states it needs repair (Duuh) which you then have to pay for. Ace (Corp) policy plainly states returns to any store, yet every store claims they are independently owned and will not accept etc. But! EVERY Ace Hardware is franchised or they wouldn't be an Ace Hardware, thus NONE accept returns from another store.
This situation exists because it costs about a million bucks to get into a franchise, which does not include the $35,000 for the required (corporate of course) "training program" (6 to 9 months) to get a (their) certification so you can even qualify. Unlike virtually every other, Ace franchises do not come with exclusive territory. They must buy their stock from Ace Corp. All this so the Corp can make 700% profit while their retailers make 100%. But it gets juicier yet.
Remember their cooperative partners leaving them in droves? Well, I'm sure the Corp loves that. You see, a store owner can sell the store, if he even owns it, but he can't sell the franchise. Those people have to "qualify" and buy in on their own. So every time someone gets out, the Corp gets to sell all that all over again. Pretty tricky huh? But."there's a sucker born every minute."
You can imagine how unhappy these people must be, which comes down on their employees, which lands on our heads every time one of us enters an Ace Hardware store.

I purchased a trimmer on 7/20/23 and used it one time. I pulled it out yesterday 8/17/23 and the priming bulb will not return from a compressed position, making it impossible to start the trimmer. I contacted te Ace where I purchased the trimmer and they told me it could not be returned/exchanged because it was used. My only recourse would be to contact Cradtsman tand pay to get it repaired.
This is a trimmer I have had for only a few weeks and only used once.

I went into your Chico ca store and was returning 2 items brass fitting and a ranger gas valve the commercial sales lady there accused me of trying to rip you guys off and lied to me she said they dont sell this brand in which i walked right over to the isle her in tow pulled it off the shelf exact same item same spoy same package and she still tells me that this is not there brand so your telling me im lying i have the receipt i pulled the item for her keep in mind i had an appointment i was going to be late for and explained this in the beginning then in the end this lady laora tells me i need to stand in line again so in the end i called the store manager and was told basically oh well . on the back of all your receipts it says hassle free return well it was not hassle free it was embarrassing humiliatingly and honestly i wont be shopping with ace any longer

You advised your stores that the Company that sells Grout sensation closed their warehouse and is no longer selling that product. That is not true! They are very much still in business and the product is still available directly through them. It is a big seller and they need to know that they can still get it! It really is wrong to mislead your stores about a product that sells so well for them. You need to let them know they can still order directly through the company...USA Chemical Corp!
B-hyve sprinkler controller
Last April I bought a B-Hyve sprinkler controller made by Orbit from the Ace Hardware store in Littleton, CO for $100. 2 months later it stopped working. I spent 4 days trying to contact Orbit to get a replacement. No one answered the phone. They do not have an email address. The live technical support is no longer available. Chat requests went unanswered. I finally gave up and took the controller back to the Ace Hardware store and requested a replacement or refund. They refused since the time limit (30 days) had expired. After 5 minutes of trying to explain my problem to the store manager, I gave up and went to Home Depot to buy another one, something I should have done in the first place. Obviously, I will never go back to another Ace Hardware store.
Desired outcome: Refund of original purchase price.

I was really frustrated because I had everything ready to paint, but I couldn't use the paint I had just bought. I had to spend part of my day off work going back to the store to get a new can.
When I got to the store, I was disappointed to find out that the manager or the paint representative didn't even apologize for the inconvenience. They just offered me a replacement can of paint. Unfortunately, they were out of the upgraded bathroom paint that I had originally bought, so I had to downgrade to a lower quality paint. Again, there was no verbal apology for the inconvenience.
When I finally got home and started painting, I realized that the paint was a huge clump that could not be stirred. I had to use three coats of the low quality paint to get decent coverage. I recently had an experience with Ace Hardware in Tannersville on 611 in Pennsylvania. My wife brought my lawnmower to them and they told her that it was no good and that they would discard it for her. I was surprised by this because I had just bought the lawnmower and had only used it once. I had left the gas in it over the winter, which I later learned was not a good idea.
I decided to do some research and found a helpful video on YouTube that explained how to kick over a mower with gas left in over the winter. I purchased some carb cleaner and sea foam and was able to get the mower working again with just 10 pulls. I let it run for 10 minutes and then cut my lawn.
I was disappointed with the service I received from Ace Hardware. I don't think it was right for them to tell my wife that the lawnmower was no good and offer to discard it for her. It was my property and I wanted to try and fix it myself. I also didn't appreciate the fact that they required a deposit from me before attempting to steal my lawnmower from my wife.
Overall, I would not recommend going to Ace Hardware in Tannersville on 611 in Pennsylvania. They seem to be dishonest and not very helpful. To add insult to injury, they didn't even sand the patches they did on the walls because they don't have a sanding machine and they didn't rent one. Now, I am left with bigger patches to fix. My biggest mistake was not asking them to leave on the first day.
I felt something was wrong when they told me they were renting a pressure wash machine from another company. I kept following up and being dragged by their promises as they are a reputable company. However, this expensive lesson learned from this experience is to follow your initial instinct and impression.
