A phone rep closed my account without notifying me
I called the bank due to a Huntington error. I called last week to request a stop pay. The charge still ended up pending on my account. I said I was on hold 30 minutes requesting a stop payment. This was last Wednesday. I requested to speak with a supervisor. Her name was Kierra. She was rude and talking over me and kept telling me what a pending transaction was. I said that wasn’t my question. I became irate and I did called her the B word. She took it upon herself to deactivate my accounts and my 18 year old sons account. He was at work and could not access his money due to a mistake that Huntington caused. She could have taken the time to listen to me. But instead she deactivated my 18 year olds account. I have been a customer for a long time. I went into the branch, am no one could help me. Just oh, your account is closed and I had to ask for the money in my sons account. I said what about my direct deposit hitting tomorrow night. No one took any ownership what soever. This Kierra in telephone banking has it set as to where I can’t even call in. I went into a branch to ask how does this person have such an authority to close down my accounts. Where is the customer service? I have been a long time customer. I have called in about 5 times over the last 10 years and I very seldom had to visit a local branch. I have been calling the district manager for the past two days. Still no resolution. Betha could not tell me where the literature was that I signed that says that a phone rep can shut down my account without telling me. I asked Betha, why was my account closed. I was never told specifically why my account was closed. They just said that she forced closed 4 accounts. I have been in an online chat, visited 2 branches, spoke with a district manager. The only answer I get is what they can’t do for me. I explained what I said but I still have not been provided an explanation as to why my accounts were forced closed.
Desired outcome: Why wasn’t this call pulled to review? How does a loyal customers account just get shut down without an explanation? I would like the phone rep reported and an apology for the inconvenience.
I can not use my money
I wire transferred My account to my sister's account in Romania Transilvania Banck. Your bank does not honor the transfer. I will suit the back and My advocates will contact the big boss Stephen D. Steinour. Another time I try to pay by internet a bill for my apartment in Romania. The back does not allow me. Another time I tried to pay my mortgage and the bank does not honor the payments even though I did it online or through the check. And all this has happened in 3 weeks. I have my money in my checking account. We try 5 times to change an address and 5 times the workers of your bank or the online system failed and all the time I have trouble with my payments. The Steinour, know that? The Steinour uses my money for his business and when I want to pay my bills, I can not do this.
I will use this information, and I will post everywhere in media the fact your bank uses the customers' money and they do not allow it to use. The Steinour keeps arresting the customers' money, and this is styling. Onest this bank will fail and will be closed soon. I want Steiner to contact me before speaking with the media about my case and it is better if they honor my payments from my money from my work, from my bank account. I work for that money, not them, they do not give me a penny and use my money to produce money for them.
My email address is [protected]@yahoo.com and Steiner can write here.
Desired outcome: I want Steiner to contact me
A refinance
I was trying to refince my home for a fixed rate after doing all the paper work and paying out 525.00 for a apprasior I was toId could not have it done because I owed more on the home the loan officer was assured me I could do the refinance so I feel I was ripped off for the fees if he is a loan officer he could look at all the city records to see what the house was worth before moving forward I will be contacting my attorney to try and solve this issue I dont think that was fair and I do know that you have to have the home appraised but I am out of 525.00 and for what I am not happy at all I have been with tcf bank 20 years and this is the worst. I am so pissed off not good business
Online security
The last 3 days I have been logging into my online account to check about a deposit. Today when I logged in, I received a message that I was using an unregistered device, this is the same computer I have always used. It required me to request a verification code. Upon entering this code I was then asked to answer a question that I have never seen, nor had an answer for. The system did not allow me to answer a different question. So, I entered 4 question marks and was redirected to my account! This is not a secure way to access my account! I have talked to 3 people about this, the first 2 were rude and unhelpful! They kept ignoring what I said and kept repeating that it was not a problem of Huntington and that this was a new device, again this is the same computer I always use, including the last 3 days. The second one, supposedly a supervisor, became very condescending and argumentative and claimed I was not listening to him. He kept making the same statement repeatedly. After trying to get him to actually listen me I finally hung up. H treated me like I was an idiot, I have multiple college degrees and am a retired teacher. If he was a student I would have removed from my classroom! I have been a customer since the late 1970's, in fact did my student loans when this was First National bank and a customer thru several name changes. Tomorrow I will be looking to change to a different bank, one that listens to its customers and takes online security seriously. I doubt that this will be resolved as your website shows that a very small percent of complaints are resolved. This seems to be the entire company operates. Maybe the next big bank to fail!
Desired outcome: To be able to securely log onto my account.
Checking account
Emailed offer right after I withdrew my remaining funds for a promotion. Opened account, went to great lengths to get the qualifying deposits completed in april and for future months, only to be told I didn't qualify. They have been sending offers to customers leading them to believe it is an asset retention measure and later telling them they aren't eligible (the new account is coded with the promotion). They sent another email invitation yesterday. The bank is not taking this seriously. Very misleading at best.
Desired outcome: Pay the $400 promotion, stop engaging in this practice.
I went to great lengths, as it were, to have funds directly deposited into a new checking account this month, per the email I received, offering a $400 promotion.
I understand they have been sending these to existing customers who do not qualify because the customer has another account. I attempted to resolve this -- the promotion was logged on the application, but they have yet to take care of this-
Again today I was emailed at the same address listed with the bank, another promotional invitation to open an account for new customers. We look for certain things and banks know this -- they have been playing tricks with dates, etc. This is not acceptable and the bank has obviously not taken this seriously.
Manager/ service
Went into the bank today to find out why the funds that were being held and now released, I have no access too. The manager was very rude. He said things that embarrassed me that humiliated me that made my employer look bad., And then after calling the fraud department or hold department I find out half of what he told me wasn't even true. He refused to take me into a room so all of my business was out there for all the other customers and employees to hear. I walked out of there horrified,
Desired outcome: Manger reprimanded with a verbal apology
Debit card account
I recently got a new debit card and made payments on my comcast bill and spotify. A day later when trying to pay my phone bill and my PS network bill, im getting declind messages. When I call Huntington they told me that in order to protect my acvount ill have to answer yes when I receive a message about my purchases. I was also told my account would be accessible without issue for the next three days. This was a lie because now im locked out from my account and I cant buy gas for work.
Desired outcome: Unsuspend my account and permanently resolve this issue.
The funds need deposited back into the account or it will sit there negative until court.
When you call into Huntingdon bank no one has a clue what they are doing or talking about.
You ask for a supervisor and they give you a difficult time. ZERO help.
I deposited a check IN THE BANK AT THE BRANCH ON SMALLMAN Street in Pittsburgh PA on 4/6/23. Without notification, the check was bounced back on my account on 4/11/23. The check was from the PA Treasury Department.
I called to ask why this check was bounced back on my account leaving a negative and it was very challenging getting an answer from anyone at Huntingdon.
When I finally received an answer, the Returns department stated that when the check was scanned in that it left black marks on the check making it difficult to verify my information. They told me to go into the bank with my ID to verify it.
I went back to the branch where I deposited the check at the branch on Smallman street in Pittsburgh, PA on 4/12/23... to get told that I had to wait for the returned check to come back in the mail, and to then come back.
Well 4 days later I had still not received the returned check. So, I went into the branch on smallman street on 4.14.23 and met with jennifer matthews who was zero help what so ever. She called the returns department, which is what I could have done on my own at home. I saw the picture of the check that was scanned in at your branch by your teller, and it had a black line smudged on it... You can still read the amount and name and my address. I even had a picture of the check on my phone that verifys all the information.
Now the returns department stated I needed to get a whole new check. Are you kidding me? So because of your error scanning a check, you now left my account at a negative balance, and are telling me to get a whole new check which will take approx. 3-4 weeks to even get another processed!
I asked for a manager and jennifer told me there was not one. I asked for corporate... She kept saying I am sorry there is nothing I can do.
This is the most disturbing, irritation, ludacrous thing ihave ever seen or dealt with! Because your banks scanner causes an issue on the check, I try to verify it, yet you tell me I still have to get another check!
That negative balance can sit there. I am not going through the process of getting another check because of your nonsense. I will and am taking this to all of social medial as well as twitter. This is absolutely insane!
Desired outcome: NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HUNTINGDON HAS DONE NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! FOR YOUR ERROR!!!!!
Previous accounts of my parents
My Parents Ronald and Irene Cieslewicz of Toledo,Ohio had annuities,CD’s with Huntington. My Father had Alzheimer’s my mother was blind and had Dementia. My mother passed in 2019 my father in 2021.I have hired an attorney to get this information on all accounts for the past 18 months. They were served a subpoena and still have not any information on these accounts ! There was elderly abuse involved with these accounts that we desperately need this information to no avail.I am begging for help to get them to release this information
Desired outcome: To make things right for the elder abuse
Funds
I have bills that come out of my checking account weekly and their debits but it’s not right when on Friday a couple hundred dollars go out and pay bills and then on Saturday all the money shows back up which makes me think I have the money to spend and then come Monday I’m in the negative because they took it out of my account twice I’m getting tired of this. It’s happened to happen two weeks in a row. I’m gonna find another bank.
Desired outcome: The old way.
Return of money from illegally cashed money orders
On September 8 and 9, 2022, Huntington Bank cashed 2 money orders totaling $1,425 and $400 respectively bought at a currency exchange. Both money orders had the name of landlord typed on it along with my handwritten signature. The name written on the back was almost unreadable and Huntington Bank Fraud acknowledged to Republic Bank of Chicago fraud representative that they had done it. This was in September around the 23rd, however Huntington Bank now has not or will not respond to written and telephone requests from Republic Bank personnel or to me in our requests to return my money.
I am a 69 year old retiree whose income is a monthly pension. I have called and spoken to several members of Huntington Bank customer service representatives whose answers are "we haven't received any correspondence from Republic Bank; it might take up to 4-6 months and the best one was"Oh well" when all they have to do is release the funds and go after the theft that they irresponsibly gave my money to.
Desired outcome: I just want my money back.
Hold on accounts
I've recently deposited a larger check, $5,000, was written to me as a loan from another Huntington customer, who has written me checks in the past. I've been a caregiver for my Grandmother for the past 3 years, and she wrote me a check to help with getting things back together for myself. Woke up the following morning, and noticed the deposit went through. I already don't trust banks, as I worked at one myself and have seen sketchy stuff, so I went to take out a majority of the funds. Woke up the very next morning, I'm locked out of online banking, and there are holds on ALL of my accounts. Calling customer service is a complete waste of time, so I filed a complaint with the BBB. Received a call back from a lady, with an attempt at explaining. Word for word..."You need to bring the individual into a branch, so they can prove that they INTENTIONALLY wrote that check. She accused me of theft is what she did. I've been a customer of theirs for 3 years without any issues, and my Grandmother since they opened!
As I type this, funds have been removed from her account for the check, and now my account is overdrawn by $4750.00. Huntington is holding these funds in limbo, although they had NO ISSUE whatsoever with removing them from her account. Crooks.
I encourage everyone to complain to the BBB about these issues. What they are doing is NOT OK. I'm a reasonable person, I can see putting a 3-5 day hold on larger checks to ensure funds but accusing people of lying and theft is downright absurd. Not only that, I removed the funds because they originally gave them to me, they cleared it. There are some kinks in business that needs addressed.
Desired outcome: Figure it out
Hold on my account
I have a relationship checking and savings account. I do not use the money in my savings account much and I do not use that account anywhere external to Huntington. However, because I did not use the account for 11 months, Huntington put a dormancy hold on the account and I cannot access my money. They are continually unhelpful. This is a horrible practice, especially for an account which is strictly internal to their system and doesn't touch anything else. When requesting to remove the hold they told me it would be done the following day, too long as it should never be held in the first place. However, the following day the hold was not removed.
This policy needs to change or I will take my business elsewhere. You cannot stop people from accessing their property.
Desired outcome: This policy needs to change.
Business checking promotion
I open my Huntington Business Checking and Money Market accounts in July 2022 with Huntington Lewis Center Ohio branch under a $750 promotion.
After repeated calls, from the date I opened the account to 8/12, to this branch and Customer Service, my accounts could not be accessed until 8/12/22 which I then deposited $50,000 in total deposits. I have again called the Lewis Center branch over the past 3-weeks to inquire about the Promotion Bonus and have not received return calls on any of my attempts to inquire about the issue; this branch simply does not respond as promised. Each time I call this branch I receive promises for a call back and for the matter to be followed-up on. To date, there has been no response from this branch.
Today, I called Huntington Customer Service, and they contacted Brett at the Lewis Center branch who provided an update; still no resolution other than the person who is reviewing the Request for this item to be reviewed is OOO until Thursday, 12/1... Huntington branch claims to have filed this email request to this person who works at their branch over 3 weeks ago? Customer Service stated that the money that went into my account was 'transferred' and the terms of the promotion required for the money to be 'deposited'. When opening my business accounts with Jake back in July, I was told transferring the money from my Chase account into Huntington Business then Money Market account was fine as long as I maintained a total balance of $20,000.
Poor customer service and lack of follow through. Is this behavior the means by which Huntington hopes to gain business?
Desired outcome: The promotional bonus be deposited into my business checking.
Standby cash account
After approximately, 13 calls to change my automatic withdrwal payment date, it still hasn't been corrected. These calls started 09/13/22. My original automatic withdrwal date is/was the 15th of the month. I understand that calling 09/13 was too late to change 09/15 payment. However, I was told that it wasn't too late to change October's withdrawal date and to call back within a week to get the new withdrawal date. Called back, several times, until I was finally told the new date would be the 24th. Begining Oct 10th, again, I start recieving emails stating they were withdrawaling monies on the 15th. Needless to say, account balance would be too low to cover the payment on the 15th because my budget was allocated for it to come out on the 24th. As a result, my account was tested everyday until my direct deposits came through. I could not fully use my account, because deposits earmarked for other expenses would be taken. Here it is now November and the problem still exist. It was suggested to me today by upper management to turn off automatic withdrawal prompting a 1% interest charge on the outstanding balance. Additionally, again I don't have full use of my checking account. Was promised that December's payment would be corrected.
This is causing me turmoil and undue mental stress as I am handicapped on a fixed income. 1% is an unfair and large amount for me. In some form or fashion, please immediately rectify this matter, so I can continue normal banking.
Desired outcome: This is causing me severe anxiety and undue mental stress as I am handicapped on a fixed income. 1% is an unfair and large amount for me. In some form or fashion, please immediately rectify this matter, so I can continue normal banking.
Accounts
Huntington "so called bank"froze my accounts when I deposited a 5 digit check from merril lynch/bank of america. My payroll came 1 day before. They ended up freezing that to. Why? They couldnt tell me why, except, they were "gathering funds" no exsplanation. The check was deposited in one of my 2 checking accounts. Why did they freeze both accounts. They have never before pulled this stunt. What is differant now? I have deposited larger checks in the past with no hassels. There is something going sour with this bank. Beware...
Desired outcome: unfreeze at least the unaffected account.
We have made several calls about this final mortgage check after we got your notice about unclaimed funds and have gotten nowhere!
We received a notice of unclaimed funds regarding our past mortgage with your bank. We filled out the form from your company and sent copies of our current drivers licenses from North Dakota for proof of identity and have nothing but a run around about the check ever since, when we call to inquire!
the form says Nature of Funds
Mort ck 194287 amount is $1,528.72 account # 5524285
date: 03/23/2020
It was sent our daughter's address which we used while we were making the move from SC to ND. It was returned to your bank because it was unable to forward. The address was:
Lawrence W Verraneault
Elaine P Verraneault 473 65th Ave NW Plaza, ND 58771
One number was left off which is why we did not receive it!
Desired outcome: I think with the small amount of this check, your bank cut another check and be done with this problem!
Trust checking account
Huntington Bank has been the worst customer experience I have ever had. It's ridiculous that a bank of their size doesn't have the appropriate SOPs to vet or assist a new customer. They froze my account because they expected fraud which some people I spoke to said it wasn't and other people said it was. They shut down my online banking account, cashed my check, held my funds and now are saying they are deciding to close the account because it is a risk, however, they won't give my money. They said they can't get a hold of the issuing bank which is crazy. I okay with closing the account because I don't want to do business with a bank like this but I need you to release my funds. Asking me to get some documentation from the issuing bank doesn't make sense because I didn't need that for you to cash my check. Give me my money and we can part ways. You have already caused bills not to be paid and late payment fees that I have encountered. I will be contacting the CFPB, BBB, OCC and whoever else until you give me my money back as soon as possible. This is my hard earned money and you can't hold it.
Desired outcome: Give me my money, that's all. I will come to a branch and withdraw it and you can close the account.
Payroll Check Hold beyond 5 business days
I deposited a payroll check into my checking account with Huntington and a hold was placed on the check for 6 Business days or until the money was released from the paying bank. I called multiple times to be told they have no way of verifying the money was received and that the hold will stay on. Then I verified that a 6-business day hold is illegal per the FDIC and still no change was completed.
Harassment after Huntington's incompetence
I have had my mortgage with Huntington bank for the last several years. My mortgage was transferred to Huntington from another bank and I was given explicit instructions to continue to mail my payments to the same address. My payments are always on time; over the past few months, I have been paying extra. In September of this year, I noticed that my payment dated 9.15.22 in the amount of $1120.00 had not been "applied". My mortgage payment in full is $502.85. I called to ask and the CSR told me that it had been but was applied to the October Mortgage instead of principal as intended. That was fine as I had issued another payment for over 2X the amount due (1120.00) on September 29th and felt that it should have been received prior to my October 1st payment deadline.
On 9.30.22 however, HUNTINGTON REFUNDED my 9.29 payment with no explanation so I simply reissued it when I noticed on 10.3.22.
I assumed all was in order until 10.10.22 when I received a collections call from Zack. I returned the call and advised the CSR at that point that for some reason the payment was refunded and I had re issued it on the 3rd and it should be there any day. The CSR advised they would note the file and I moved on.
On 10.13.22 I make another double plus payment of $1120.00 and later that same day I go into my account and notice that my last payment made on 10.3.22 had also been REFUNDED BY HUNTINGTON with no explanation.
I call and talked to 2 separate people repeating the problem 2 more times. They, between the 2 of them, realize that the payments have been going to the wrong address so Huntington has simply been refunding the money. Awesome. That is an easy fix, or so I think. I repay ALL of the returned funds on that same day. The total amount I pay on 10.13.22 was $3360.00, over 6 times what I owed. October paid, November paid, and additional principal payment. They tell me they will note the file.
So, on or around 10.19.22 I notice I have received a late charge. So once again, I call, talk to a CSR and I have to repeat what has happened yet again. She says she understands, will reverse the late charge and note the file.
And finally today, I get yet another collections call. I'm fuming. I call back and speak to Justin who tells me my payment is late. This is interesting because Huntington has allegedly mailed my payment from one floor on the building to another floor in the same Huntington building and for some reason, my payment still has not been received/posted.
At this point, this is harassment. My payments were well over the amount due every single time, refunded by the bank they were sent to multiple times, each CSR advised that they would note the file yet I had to explain myself again and again. Huntington Bank rivals only the Federal Govt in it's inefficiency.
My request is that the collections calls stop, that I get a written response from the bank clearing up anything that indicates late payment and effects my credit, that Huntington provide some training to their CSR's on how to adequately notate and read a file before they pick up the phone and finally that Huntington takes responsibility for delivering a payment from my Huntington checking account to my Huntington Mortgage account in the same building in the same city. Even the USPS can do better than that.
I have been a Huntington customer for several years. This is unacceptable for a major financial institution. Do better. Very disappointed.
Exported transactions from my account log are available upon request.
Desired outcome: Included in the description above
I'm experiencing a Huntington Mortgage late fee encounter as well. Although I only had Huntington Mortgage for 5 months I've had numerous problems compared to the previous Mortgage company I've had for over 10 years. My bank pays my mortgage and has done so for decades but now with Huntington Mortage, for the first time ever I'm getting late fees. It's amazing how incompetent the Mortage company is and I would love to get a group of consumers together to file a class action lawsuit against them.

I had my account closed by a Brendan allegedly for using my available funds before the bank collected the funds from the other bank. Apparently you can't use your AVAILABLE FUNDS
hence this came less then 8 hours after I complained to a phone rep and asked for how many times a deposit was placed on hold.and extended hold and for how long after she asked me why I needed that info I told her it was to file a complaint with the bbb , fdic, and the attorney General...she placed me on hold and never came back. But my account is suddenly a risk and set to be forced closed 8 plus hours later. 🙃
