Commercial garage doors
I ordered a 9x7 and a 16x7 commercial garage doors in June of 2023. I was told they would ship on Sept 22, 2023. I had an installer scheduled to install it the following week. The order was pushed out a month and when the doors finally arrived my installer was a few month out. I figured i would do it myself to get them done. I started the project with the...

Purchased 3 commercial jack shaft openers less then a year ago and one of them has stopped traveling all the way up. I have narrowed it down to the rpm switch by switching them out from one of the working openers. I have contacted ideal and menards and they have opened up a claim but it's been over a month and I still don't have the part to fix my opener getting a little tired of opening it by hand every time I want in my shop.

Quality of product/customer service
I ordered an 18x12 insulated Garage door through Menard pole barn kit. The door came with the brackets mounted incorrectly, one spring broke and a dented panel. The company I called out to install it spent over 10 hours attempting to install it, and could not complete it because of these issues. I called sustomer service for some compensation of the 3600 bill, due to the fact the installers could not complete the install. Ideal doors "team" said the best they could do was $250. I would not be stuck with a $3600 Bill AND NO FUNCTIONING DOOR if the quality of product was any better, and weak effort to at least some what take care of a customer...$250 is a slap in the face. I do not recommend ideal door in any case. Spend more early, you'll spend less in the long run.
Desired outcome: You did nothing

Garage Doors; Customer Service
We built a large storage building with a 20' x 14' overhead door on each end. We were warned by other contractors of the poor quality and service of the Ideal Garage Door Company, but we were lured in by the sale prices offered by Menard's. What a HUGE MISTAKE that was! Between the inept staff at the Bismarck Menard's store and your help desk, packaging and mailing staff, it has been a TOTAL NIGHTMARE for the past 3 weeks! Our building is 64 miles from the Menard's store in Bismarck and we had to pull our 24 foot trailer to Bismarck on three separate days to get our complete order. This was the fault of the receiving manager at Menard's, who does not have any organization skills whatsoever! In addition to Menard's, the people at Ideal Door Co did not complete our order. After the three trips to Menard's, it was discovered that we were missing additional hardware never packaged with the original order. We could not complete any of the two doors as we were missing the screws and brackets that were supposed to be included in the shipment. We were told over the phone by the Ideal Co. They could not send the missing hardware to our address. We had to make another trip to Bismarck once the hardware arrived at the store. This took an additional two weeks and three more trips before the hardware arrived by mail to our address. That would have solved everything, except that the envelope that was to hold the screws was opened and all contents was gone. This caused us another trip to Bismarck and pleading with the Menard's staff, we were given enough screws to complete the installation of the doors. Installation was also a nightmare! After many attempts to assemble the doors based on the poor, terrible instructions, we discovered over the phone with Ideal Door Co., we had the wrong installation manual for the doors we purchased! We will certainly not ever buy from Ideal Door Co. again and we will spread the word of the Company's terrible business practices!
Garage door
I bought a garage door and it was insulated and heavier than normal. I only received one torsion spring. I called ideal door and they agreed I should of had two springs but would not send it. Since it was a special order door menards would only return it with a 25 percent restocking fee. Two bad companies to deal with, do not buy ideal door.
Product Quality
Purchased one of their 9X7 doors in March of 2015, installed it July 2, 2015, due to surgery prior to this date. Followed their enclosed instructions. On 7/13/2015, not even 2 weeks later, the bearing on the torsion bar became separated from it's holder, causing excessive force to raise the door, causing the top portion to buckle. Ideal Door/Clopay, does not want to take care of their poor quality & defective parts, only wanting to sit behind their desk and state "poor installation", so they don't have to do anything. I will never buy anything from Clopay in Miami County, OH, city of Troy, OH, ever again, as, according to a lot of the area residents that work there, allegedly, they don't even drug test their associates, (permanent or temporary), before they hire them, and, then, fire them later, after they learn they do drugs. Makes me question their practices and quality even more, after hearing all this.
Company run by hill billies
At the Menards store in Champaign I purchased an 8’x16’ Ideal brand garage door. This door would never open without extreme physical effort. It was sent to me with two left side torsion springs. There is a left spring and a right spring. They are not interchangeable
I suspected one of the torsion springs was the problem, but the people at the Menards store could not imagine such a thing, and were of no help at all in resolving the problem. They suggested I call Ideal’s help line.
Ideal’s toll free help line representatives are friendly and could be helpful, but they could not imagine I might have a door with two springs for the left side. I gave up on the help line representatives and sent a letter to Ideal’s Email address.
I emailed high-resolution pictures of the springs installed on the door. Whoever received the pictures agreed it didn’t look right but they were totally baffled by what the problem could be. They suggested I dial the toll free help line again, and perhaps their representatives could talk me through it
At this time I realized I was dealing with someone who was totally unfamiliar with how modern overhead doors work
I sent another Email explaining how the torsion springs work and requesting they send the correct spring for the right side of the door to me through Menards in Champaign Il. This revelation left them speechless. I never heard from them again. Subsequently I visited the Menards store and ordered the correct spring from Ideal. I paid for it myself saving Ideal door $34.95. Perhaps saving the Ideal Door Company from financial catastrophe.
I have no complaint about the quality of Ideal doors. I have used them often and found them satisfactory. I believe they previously used the name Clopay.
Mistakes are made in any manufacturing process. It only becomes a problem when they are not acknowledged.

We put up a 14x16 in November. It was a heavy duty roll up door. Worked good until a wind storm blew it out last week. I would not recommend a roll up door out in the country.
Recently purchased a Ideal garage door was told what junk! Not enough struts to make garage door run properly, put extra on still not enough. Finally call local garage door service to fix the problem. The hardware that is sold with the door is not of very good quality!
I just installed a 16'x8' ideal door in my shop that i bought at Menards & it came with 2 right hand torion springs. It's not Menards that made the mistake it was boxed up wrong, I call Menards & they were very nice to deal with. They call the Ideal door company & have the spring ordered. i tried to get the door company to ship it directly to me, but was told no they couldn't do that. It will be shipped on there next truck to the Moorhead Menards, now i got an E-Mail with the estimated delivery date of 21 days from now. I'm not to happy with the Ideal door company right now.
Sorry but at 25 years in the overhead door industry, this story is hallarious. It's not Ideal Door that screwed up your door, it's Menards. The order pickers had No Clue what they were putting together. You should have taken or shipped both springs back to them and requested a qualified person to attend to your issue as with 2 Left Hand Wound springs(which should be installed to the right of the center bearing plate) i'm surprised you didn't hurt yourself when winding them. The deal is done now but keep the extra spring in the rafters as springs are only good for an average of 10, 000 cycles with every new door unless higher cycle is requested (door opens and closes = 1 cycle) and you will eventually need it. Good to hear that you installed and figured this out yourself which is more tha a Menards employee is capable of.
As always, a picture is worth a thousand words. Descriptions can be easily misunderstood but a picture rarely lies.
Garage door
I purchased an Ideal garage door june 22, 2009. I had a professional carpenter install it. I worked fine until august 7th, 2009. Then it buckled in the middle. I wondered about the quality of the door after it was installed but it seemed to function well. I contacted Ideal door. They had me contact coplay. I sent pictures of the door. They said they weren't picture quality please send another set. I sent another set. They said the pictures appeared faxed. We sent the pictures via internet each time. I sent pictures a third time. Now they say door was installed wrong. I want to let people know that the warranty on an Ideal Door isn't worth toilet paper. No reimbursement, no help with the problem whatsoever. For 417.62 a door should last more than 30 days. Menards and Ideal door are off our shopping list. Thank you, Russ Mathews.

Purchased first week of April 2023. My door came with a bad winding unit. I called and immediately got help from their customer service department. They shipped a replacement the next day. Spectacular customer service, so not a complaint. The heading said reviews and complaints, so there is my review. Nothing but accolades for them!
