I entered the Malbis medical center around 10 am on 11/15/2023  with abdominal pain that initially started the day before around noon on 11/14/2023.  I've had multiple bouts with Kidney stones over the years and on one occasion where I thought I was having a recurrence  the doctor diagnosed it as diverticulitis. and that is what I thought I wa...

Infirmary Health No response

Over the last several years, my husband and I both used Dr. Dukes in Fairhope, al. The staff there turns so fast, I’ve never seen the same person twice. They’re rude, disrespectful, unconcerned from the time you call to make an appointment to when your leaving after your scheduled appointment. Always behind. Cannot get your meds right. Never returns calls. Even though the dr tells you not to come in for a year, they make you come in before a year just to get refills on your meds. Will NEVER call in for a prior authorization. I could go on and on about this place.

Desired outcome: None. Will never go back to this office again.

Infirmary Health My mother was made fun of by some of the staff while they thought she was still asleep after surgery.

My mother visited thomas hospital through the er a week ago for a gallbladder stone the service was terrible most of the nurses were terrible she was sent to the 4th floor assuming there was no space that’s fine she went in for gallbladder removal and then another surgery the next day to remove a gallbladder stone before the second surgery nobody would help her she was put in a corner and everybody ignored her because nobody wanted to do their job until someone that was training another nurse said something. after that surgery the nurses assumed my mother was still out from the surgery but she was able to hear them making fun of her teeth and making fun of her for having some anxiety prior to the surgery one nurse saying it was ridiculous of her to have anxiety.

Desired outcome: i would like these nurses on the 4th floor to be held accountable this is unacceptable and nobody should have to go through this. especially on the women’s and children’s floor.

Infirmary Health Rude disrespectful nurse practitioner

CRNP Katie Caucasian lady with red hair. I went to the ER due to jaw pain, muscle spasms in my jaw, and locking of the jaw. After sitting there four hours plus waiting to see a Dr. I was seen by a nurse practitioner by the name Katie who beyond disrespectful and extremely nasty and rude. She basically told me I had TMJ which didn’t surprise me but I asked her could I get something for pain to help me get through the night she tells me we don’t give drugs to everyone for everything. I said I’m not everyone and this isn’t for everything and if you’re trying to call me a drug addict that’s something I’m not. I said I’ve been hurting for days and I need something to get me through the night she continued to say we don’t give drugs for everything. I’m not an addict. And I’ve never been one. And for her to treat me as such is disgusting. When I told her where she was mashing hurts she mashed down harder. When my reflex was to take my face out her hands she would roll her eyes. If she didn’t want to help me then they should’ve said something instead of sitting there 4 hours. I’ll also be getting a lawyer.

Infirmary Health Service

A patient by the name of Mark Sekas has been in your hospital for a total now of 11 days. I was just there visiting him and I was told by your nurse that the doctors basically come and go and do what they want on their own time. He asked for a laxative he has been backed up for three days it took him over 12 hours for a doctor to get back to him for a single laxative there. He has had pneumonia the entire time - developed a Uti and it took hours literally hours for even that test to be done and come back. 11 days he’s been suffering. His blood pressure came out 170/80 and I said to a nurse wow that’s a pretty high number and she said oh I wouldn’t know what his normal as I walked in here and I didn’t even read his chart. This is absurd. The lack of care in this hospital is astounding. And moving at a snails pace and an emergency situation as his condition worsens and not progresses is astounding.

I went to get an infusion for replicate and after my treatment I was lightheaded, my skin had hives, I threw up, I couldn't breathe or anything.

I went back in and they gave me Benadryl and Tylenol. That didn't sit right at all. So I ended up going to ER room and they triaged me and sent Me to the other side. They have pain meds and more thru an iv. So time pass by it worked but it came back and covered my body in hives. So I checked around 1pm and it is 10:41pm and No room caused I got admitted.

Desired outcome: I have an iv and im nauseous. Your nurses went and gossip because I called to get help.

Infirmary Health Er Saraland Alabama

My wife came in with possible appendicitis, right side hurting, throwing up, fever, weak. She say I. The waiting room for 4+ hours (as of now we are still here) they told her to sit in the waiting room to wait on urine test to get back before they done anything else. The staff is rude and incompetent. Many people have come and gone while she sits here in pain. Not to mention the screen that screams “put on a mask” as your trying to get a mask out of an open box that many people have stuck their hands in I’m sure multiple days now. We come here because we thought it would be more convenient since it’s not as far as the other hospitals from our house. Boy were we wrong.

Desired outcome: I would like to see some friendly, competent staff present. Also some doctors instead of nurse practitioners, that actually have a clue about what is going on.

Infirmary Health Terrible ER service

My husband came in by ambulance with very low blood sugar and low potassium. He was put in a bed in the hallway because all the rooms were taken by COVID patients. We literally sat in the busy hallway with COVID rooms at arm's reach for 8 hours. No one really said anything for 2 hours techs, nurses Drs all walked past. I had to flag down random people because his nurse never came to check on him. I found out her name as she was leaving at 7pm. The night nurse Colby was too busy to even check his IV drop or introduce himself. I have a lot of respect for healthcare workers because it's hard especially during COVID-19 but there are more people who need to be seen and cared for and made a priority, because 8 hours in a hallway and everyone else is behind a door is not ok.

Desired outcome: Keep beds open for non covid related patients

Infirmary Health ER/ED department and Nurse

I went to the Emergency Room with Severe chest pains, ache in both arms, and jaw pain. I have had a heat attack before so I had enough signs to warrant my need to. go and be checked by a Doctor. I was greeted and received my triage relatively quick. I was given an EKG and had blood work drawn and then asked to go and sit in the waiting room. During a 3 1/2 hour period I had several issues with chest pain/pressure and asked repeatedly for help and was told to wait. I even said I was going to take my own nitroglycerin to see if it would help ease the symptoms I was experiencing. I was in quite a panic. They told me it would be best if I didn't and to wait. Now I am not a nurse or doctor but I know enough to advocate for myself and to know the procedures in following protocol for possible heart attacks. Let me say that not a single one was done. I was not checked on one single time even though I asked for help. Finally when I did get called to the back and a nurse named Adi came in, I questioned some things out of concern as I was a little upset and scared. Yes, I did question why and what for to the things she was suggesting. Yes, I was upset. THIS IS WHAT SHE SAID TO ME AND I QUOTE "IM SO SORRY YOU DIDNT GET A ROOM BUT THERE IS A DEAD KID DOWN THE HALL" in the most rude and snippy way. She said it in the most awful, ugly, and [censored]y way that I immediately starting crying because it was so upsetting. I didn't ask the questions thinking I should ever have precedence over a child that had just passed, I am a mother of 5 children. It was horrible. After that I just shut down. I let her know that what she just did was so uncalled for and out of line. Trust me when I say she knows she messed up. She apologized for being a [censored]. She used those words. By then I was crying and beside myself. Doctor came in and did the usual, he was ok. I couldn't get settled and stop crying and I just left AMA! The whole experience was absolutely horrible! I would rather travel 45 min across the bay than have to deal with the way they are treating patients. I understand that they are overworked due to Covid, but that is no excuse in taking it out on patients who are scared. I rather they fake concern than to go at a patient and try to make them feel bad by saying "dead kid"! I wasn't the only patient who left either. I do have empathy for their job and what they must handle in a daily basis, I couldn't imagine. But they also knew stresses came with the territory and that keeping their cool is necessary. I just pray that no one else has to endure what I did!

Infirmary Health Level of care

My husband has been in the hospital since last Monday, he was taken to ICU on the 4th floor and things have gone downhill from there. He cannot get up by himself and when he calls for someone to put him on a bedpan it takes 20 minutes before anyone shows up and by that time then they have a real mess. This is embarrassing for my husband, he ask for a bath over 24 hours ago and still hasn't gotten one. I realize that your short staffed but it seems like the patients are paying the price for the shorthandedness.

His food is never on time and when he does get it no one bothers to get him set up so he can eat, and by the time they do come in his food is cold and he won't eat it.

I can only see him at certain times since he is in the ICU wing of the hospital so I am unable to care for him during regular hours, I should be able to feel comforted that someone is looking out for him but all I hear from him is how badly he is being treated.

We have always gone to the Infirmary for care but after the experience we've had this time we will not be back.

Desired outcome: I would like for his nurses to take care of him like they should.

Infirmary Health Pre-Admit Procedures

I went to their Daphne AL site for pre-admit for a "female" procedure to start they called my name and took a man back to start my paperwork. Then when I actually got through that part and to the RN BN they were trying to set me up for a laparoscopy instead or what I was sent there for. When I said that's wrong she said we will have to start the paperwork over but it could have been left it's basically the same thing. NOT! The next day at 4:39 pm the main admission office in Fairhope calls and leaves me a non detailed message to confirm my arrival time and to discuss my co-pay which should have been addressed the prior day. By the time I got the message the main office closed at 5 and nobody else in the hospital could look up the information.

Desired outcome: Train and streamline for admissions process

there is a nurse in the ER department at the Fairhope location that works days, dirty blonde hair curly, kinda tall, RN, who thought it was okay to laugh and joke about a PT and calling the PT a shemale instead of using the correct term transgender. Now idc what your beliefs are but if you're a nurse you need to have some dignity and respect for all pts and...
