Re: Intermountain Sleep Center at AltaView... Despite being a patient for 3-4 years there, I am RARELY able to get my prescription in a timely manner. I even made this same complaint to the Nurse Manager a year ago and and my Nurse Practitioner at annual visit Mar 2023. things are no better. maybe worse, since I spent SO. MUCH. TIME being my own CARE Manager and trying to smooth out the system. Too bad my Rx for chronic condition requires a monthly call, just to get medicine. If I had high blood pressure, I would be dead by now. I make a call 2 weeks in advance, no response. Call again, get a call from clinic assist who leaves no msg, they call my wrong phone number, never reply to email. Apparently, the clinic asst (CA) who takes my request decides if my Rx is OK before sending it to my provider. CA is not qualified for this. They could not even tell me the dosage of med I'm on. They do not get the story straight. CA says they are NOT my NP's assistant, but the "real" one I have never heard of or spoken to in 4 years. CA takes no responsibility. My NP relies on her "interpretation" of my request, whether I am allowed Rx, and now my medication is being withheld, due to internal communication issues between them.
Being a retired Nurse Practitioner myself, working/managing clinics for 40 years, I KNOW this is TOTALLY unacceptable. I would call it clinical mistreatment due to adverse effects that "no medicine" has on my life. For example, I SHOULD BE SKIING NOW, instead spent the afternoon trying to get my medication. When I was not medicated for sleep disorder, I used to fear falling asleep on the chairlift and not exiting the lift when required. Lack of Rx or trying to get Rx has interfered with vacations and other leisure activities because every month, it is an ENTIRE PROJECT, taking maybe 20% of my brain space, to deal with. Basically, takes all my leisure time, plus the additional stress of NOT KNOWING when/where/if and how I will acquire my Rx. Up to 2 weeks every month I am in limbo. Also, now has taken 30 minutes to try and find phone number to Patient Advocate on INtermountain website,... so, my advice...
