Bait and switch
Upon retirement we purchased a time share from Shell at the Beachoy Club in Hawaii. At that time we were told that we would be able to deposit all of our accumulated extra RCI weeks that we had and use them for additional Shell vacations. Shell has switched from RCI now and changed their affiliation to an inferior exchange company, Interval International. Further Shell has also limited the number of weeks that we can exchange, and thus the sole purpose of our contract. We were told accomodations would be made by the front office but when we contacted them they were very defensive and disorganized and only gave us a paper chase and a run around to avoid any culpability. We are currently considering a joining a Class Action lawsuit to get consideration from an obvious "Bait and Switch" scam.

I have been an interval international exchange member for approximately 16 years. Inventory for exchange has decreased
Significantly and as of late, exchanges are much more difficult. Property deposits seem to be undervalued, requests are difficult
To place on certain properties and the best chance you have is to wait to the very last minute and to go on line multiple times per day

I extended one of my certificates, and it's been a rip off there are no resorts that offer a beach vacation that me and my husband take once a year it's sad the only thing the offer in the US with beaches are resorts that are not desirable to take . I am not satis fied and I have been with them for 9 years.
I should have read the comments here before joining II. I joined as a Platinum member. I'm trying to plan a vacation 6 month in advance. Unfortunately, I can't find anything in the whole Europe! I tried to broaden the range from June to December, I still get nothing. However, there are a lot of "Getaways" for purchase! It does seem the timeshare and exchange are a scam!
Being a member of 16 year as you say you are means you know that your complaint is useless without your Demand Index number for the timeshare you own. As a new owner it is my understanding that if you buy at a timeshare with an index number above 10 your choices will be limited. What is your Index number? Has it recently changed? Do they change them often? You only leave me with more questions. Please update before I get to far into II.
No availability - no information
We booked our spacious three bedroom Gold Point unit in Breckenridge, Co in October of 2011, and requested a 2 bedroom in Park City, UT for March 22, 2012. They had 6 months to find an exchange. I would think that would be more than enough time. They offered us an efficiency unit, and a one bedroom unit not on our requested time. However, they never failed to ask if we wanted to upgrade our membership. One person even asked if we wanted to bank our week in 2013. We ultimately changed the request to a one bed room unit as our flight day drew closer. We were desperate. We had flights booked and were locked into a specific time period. We called every day. Sometimes twice a day. Some people were helpful. Some barely spoke English. We wanted to know where we stood on the list, but everyone denied the existence of any exchange list. Also, no one would offer up information as to how many units Interval has in the Park City Area. Today our unit went back into the bank and we will search for a rental. We fly out this coming Friday. We are very disappointed with Interval. I think that something is amiss with Interval International. Not a happy camper.
The reason you have a restriction of 59 days is because you deposited with II late. That isn't Intervals fault but yours. Next time read Intervals deposit policies and it won't be so hard to find a vacation.
I just bought a timeshare which includes II. This is VERY disappointing since I was told up and down that my Demand number of 7 will get me in ANYWHERE. If you have a demand number of 9 (which your resort does) you should have been given a place immediately. I am now concerned about my purchase and will call the resort I JUST bought at with more questions. I may cancel my purchase if II reviews continue to go this direction.

I have had my timeshare for over 20 years. The frustration in reaching and getting any satisfaction from Intervale for an exchange is unbelieveable.
Try their website. It stinks. Today it is down altogether. Try calling. Regardless of the day or the time, this week I get a message that tells me to call back later. Twice, when I thought I might get through, I waited and then the call was simply disconnected.
I have made up my mind that going forward, I will simply use my home resort or trade for points. Trying to get a satisfactory resort via Intervale is more frustrating and time consuming than it is worth.

Misinformation given
We were wanting to swap our week with Seasons Holidays for a 2-week holiday in Cyprus, in 2011, having been given a free membership of Interval through Seasons for 1 year. I was told by Interval back in Feb that there were no weeks available in Cyprus, and that I should have booked at the end of the previous year (2010). I was then charged for my membership of Interval for the next 3 years. At the end of July I decided to book for my 2012 holiday in Cyprus, and found that there were only weeks available for this year! (2011). The man I spoke to said yes, I had been misinformed, but didn't seem to care less! I know our membership for this year WAS free, but I feel cheated, as this was a part of the reason for us buying the timeshare. I also didn't like the way the price for next year's membership kept going up, so that I felt forced into paying before it went up again! I feel that we should be reimbursed for a year's membership.

Scam!!
Interval international is a fraud. . And an obvious one. . They steal fees and your timeshare time and replace it with nothing but frustration. . . I booked two beautiful weeks and a 5 star with them and when it came to exchanging. . They say they have properties worldwide, but really they have none. . No resorts available. . But they manage to steal my weeks and give them away and i could not reclaim them. It is a criminal company that blatantly steals from its clients, like me, who must be stupid for my disbelief that this company can operate with legal legitimacy. . . And they continuously send me renewal notices. . It is obscene that this company and its owners are not behind bars. . . Rip off, majorly. . .

Whenever I look up the locations of the Resorts of the people making these complaints (the few that mention location) they are high index numbers, like 35 or 50, some even higher. It's not I I that ripped you off. It is the person that sold you your timeshare because they did not explain how I I works.

I can not agree with you more. Interval International is a fraud and a company I have worked for. Please if you have a chose to go with a different exchange company do it! They will steal from you and all the employees care about is the money they get is selling you more years on your membership. They will lie, be rude, harass you just to get their commission. They also do not honor it when you tell them to place you of the do not call list. There are some days that they will call over 5 times in one night. That is harassment by the law and they need to be fined for this. Please do not sit back. Report them and lets see how they like this.
Exchange availability is solely dependent on other II members depositing their weeks.
The KEY to using Interval International and getting what you want is to lodge an EXCHANGE REQUEST... I can't stress this enough! Availability goes FIRSTLY to members who have lodged an exchange request (which is basically like being on a waiting list).
When weeks are deposited by other II members, those weeks go FIRSTLY to members who have an exchange request in.
People that call to check on availability basically get the left over weeks that haven't gone to members with an exchange request in.
The other issue is that members at resorts that you are wanting may not of deposited their weeks yet...
I know it may seem over the top but if you read the terms and conditions in the back of the II directory you will get a great understanding of how the programme works which will enable you to utilise the programme as best as you can.
Once you understand how it works you can use it to your advantage and take great holidays.
Fruadulant sales practices
I didn't know I was buying a Timeshare. I was told that "This wasn't a Timeshare presentation but a Property Investment". The Torrenza Resort wasn't even built yet. The location was in Mazatlan's Golden Zone. I was also told there were no maintenence fees. I was asked (after two grueling hours of the pitch) to invest my money into two weeks at which point an affiliate of Torrenza, Sierra Rentals and Resales would rent out my two weeks each year for $1000.00 per week. That's $2000.00 per year. Sierra would take their rental commision and I would get the balance. Well, the following year I got a Maintenance Fee bill in the mail from Torrenza (which I did not pay). Was I shocked! It's very intertwined as to how the fraud scheme works. To this day I haven't seen a dime on my "Investment". I called and asked why aren't my weeks being rented and they say that times are bad. I'm willing to bet that they are renting the weeks and Torrenza and Sierra are splitting the proceeds. Look up Torrenza, Mazatlan on this site and you'll see how they work with Sierra Rentals and Resales in taking your money. After the presentation which sounded so good I had to give a deposit before signing any contracts. I gave them $2, 200 which was non-refundable. When I went to sign the contract I saw the name Interval International which I questioned, if this isn't a timeshare how is Interval involved. They said this was seperate division of Interval. It was all a bunch of lies to get my money. If you need more proof you can also check out the websight, TUGBBS.com, which also shows what frauds these people are. Save your money, research before you invest and above all demand to see contracts before giving any money. If you see the name Interval or RCI on the contract...you are buying a timeshare. Just a note for those looking to purchase a Timeshare in Mexico. When I bought mine years ago, the contract was for 15 years because in Mexico thats the limit that a U.S. citizen is allowed to own a timeshare. You can start anew after 15 years. If your contract says 99 years thenyou are dealing with a whole new set of rules. Good luck to all and "Let the Buyer Beware"

I booked a cruise exchange and an additional cabin with Interval on Dec 31, 2011. At the same time, I booked a shore excursion for 4 people (2 per cabin). The shore excursions were $55 per person. I rec'd an email only listing 2 people. I started calling in January to try to confirm the booking for 4 people. I have been shuffled around and repeated email...

Do NOT deposit your time share with Interval international! - you will not get it back and you wont be able to use the banked weeks at a decent property! I am from Hawaii originally and have since moved to Seattle. I have been trying to use my 3 weeks that I have banked with Interval to book something in Hawaii - I was initially excited to find that there were actually 4 hotels listed on the Big Island - HOWEVER if you read the fine print, it says that YOU CANNOT USE EXCHANGE WEEKS TO STAY THERE you have to pay out of pocket about $999/week - so what is the freakin point then!? The condos they have listed on Oahu (waikiki) say the same thing and these facilities are OLD and a few blocks from the beach...big disappointment. SO basically, Interval takes your unused timeshare week that you "bank" and then sells it for accomodations or charges someone else full price for it and then offers you no availability, crappy condos and undesirable locations in return...GEE WHAT A GREAT SERVICE! Do yourself a service, just stick with your own timeshare group and book a package deal or private condo when travelling somehwere else...dont support this useless service.

not true. Interval does not sell your timeshare you deposit. It deposits it into the system for other members to book with. That's how Interval works, you bank your week and in return you get a week in return to book somewhere else. If you choose to try getting into a particular area with high vacation interest you need to try booking a year in advance. You can't expect Interval to perform a miracle and get you in somewhere there is no availaibility to book in. There are over 2600 resorts affiliated with Interval. If you can't book in one area search the surrounding area. If nothing is available then go somewhere else. Best advice is to plan way ahead in advance like a year for best reults and availability.

***DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO Interval **** This company promises plenty but delivers nothing but hassle and disappointment... I inherited 3 banked weeks with interval International from a relative and just tried to book something, we were trying to book a vacation -- planning a year in advance, spending several calls on the phone with customer serv reps from interval we found nothing for Costa Rica, Buenos Aires and Rio De Janeiro, Sydney, Tahiti -- for the months of Jan-March 2012! Even though their catalogue boasts thousands of resorts - this is not what it seems -- basically it is an operation that recycles unused timeshare days...it is a useless service unless one 1) Doesnt care where they go 2) When they go 3) care about the quality of the resort - perhaps best suited for retirees? (No offense) ... I have resigned to using interval international for work travel that I will be reimbursed for so i dont care where i stay...A piece of advice...use VRBO for condo rentals when you are looking to stay somewhere...the failities are much nicer, the rates better and you actually can book something wihtout hassle. It goes without saying that I am going to rapidly use up my interval internal weeks prob at second rate hotels in obscure cities for business travel and then cancel my membership.

Hidden charges, no flexibility, terrible
Everything you do with this company is geared for the ease of THEIR processing and for them to make more money. You can't do anything that doesn't add more costs. The more specific your requirements the less likely you are to get anything! I will never use them again!
Need much more info than this to be worth reading your complaint. At a minimum what is your resort Demand Index? That says a lot about where and when you can book.
Need more info to believe your story. What is your resorts Demand number? If it is high then it is no wonder you can't get anything. It is odd how all these complaints are from people who say so little. When I am unhappy about something I go into great detail.

Poor customer service
Subsequent to making a reservation with Interval International, I discovered from a review that the property I selected was undergoing renovations, and the noise was a major disturbance to a peaceful vacation. I cancelled our reservation and was told that I forfeited the $159 reservation fee. This was my first experience using the exchange program and I wasn't aware of this policy (I didn't read all the fine print). Since I wasn't informed of the noise problem by Interval, I requested that my reservation fee be applied to another property. My request was denied. Even if I had purchased insurance for $75, it wouldn't have covered refunding my reservation fee.
Interval International has very limited selection of exchange properties (compared to their Getaway program). Many (most?) owners in the Getaway program do not participate in the Exchange Program. It's necessary to get on a waiting list for most desirable properties. If you have a small window, it's likely that you will not get a reservation. In order to use your exchange points before they expire, you may have to settle for a 3rd or 4th choice destination. If you give Interval a list of properties and dates you would like, you must take the first opening they find (or pay a new reservation fee).
I cannot speak for the Getaway Plan, but I would not recommend their Exchange Plan to anyone. Since this organization deals with primarily with the (shrinking) middle class, one would think they would emphasize outstanding customer service and value, since that is all they have to offer.

Notification
If your request to use a banked week from Interval International comes through you only have 24 hrs to respond, so if your away from computer for a few days you could end up in our potential delema. We have a request in for 5 different properties in Maui anytime in August or Sept. If it comes through we have to get DECENT AIRFARE not $800 plus a person. I asked customer service for a text message if we get our request, or cell phone call so we could stop whatever we were doing and make the 24hr deadline to cancel if need be, Sorry we can't do that. So now we are put in the position of losing another $139 to interval if we can't get resonable airfare. CAN'T SEND TEXT YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!

We are in the same boat. We banked a 3 bedroom unit, requested a two bedroom and later discovered that they gave us an efficiency unit. We called Interval and they stated that they sent out an email about the exchange. We never received any email from Interval. They later cancelled this exchange. We are still hoping for a two bedroom. We do not trust Interval to send an email and call them at least once a day. We occasionally get helpful and friendly individuals on the phone and occasionally get individuals who are clueless. I have given up hope for this vacation. We are researching renting a place. So much for Interval.
Bad customer service and they put you off
This company is a fraud. We joined this time share exchange instead of RCI "Big Mistake". We could not exchange our week anywhere! They had restrictions on every state, resort you name it. We were so frustrated we decided after trying to book our week and being shot down over and over we would cancel our membership. Since then they take money still out of our bank accounts and trying to reach them is ridiculous. They pass you off to everyone then you disconnect. There latest bunch of bull is that we deposited our month with them january 1st. New Years day...really. I find that amusing. So they are literally lying to keep our money after we cancelled with them in February. Its so unfare and i plan on calling the better business and letting them know what these thieves are up to, as well as my finacial institute. Do your self a favor go with RCI or anyone else this has and still is a exhausting dead end experience. Interval International bad business.

I completely agree with you about Interval International. We were members several years with a 5 star property to trade located in Williamsburg, Va. We were told time after time that we could not trade for a beach location. I have heard that if you do not own at the beach, you cannot trade to the beach. We were able to trade a few times to the beach to very poor, run down resorts. I would not recommend them at all. RCI is a better company.
Poor service
I made my reservations in April for an exchange resort (Welk Resorts in san Diego). I hold a two bedroom unit for a week through Marriot. Interval talked me into getting into this downgraded one bedroom in Welk resorts and told me to check with the hotel periodically to see if the two bedroom units will be released. I was told by WElk that the requests can be made only through Interval. Interval kept telling me that there were no units at all for the week and I will have to forgo the studio portion of my units. I attended a preview of WElk and found out that Interval does this one bedroom exchange for two bedroom units in Marriot claiming that Welk is a premier resort. Much to my chagrin I was dumped into a small one bedroom unit the size of a studio for the premier two bedroom that I used to enjoy at Marriot. To add fuel to the fire I also found out that Interval has their HQ in Welk's premises and all along they played that they know nothing about the resort's availabilities and handle only the inventory. As an advise please do not check into Welk thinking this is better to be downgraded to a premier resort - the accommodation SUCKS! The rooms are very awkwardly set up and my kids had to sleep in a pull out couch that had a terrible mattress. The showers are substandard and I ended up taking my family to LA for two nights. This has been a horrible experience.

This seems to be your problem, not I.I.. You are obviously a doofus who knows nothing about timeshares and what a great opportunity they hold for the future of travelers all over the globe. I bet you can't even book a 2 1/2 lock-out in a green season without having to buy more points. That's how lame you are. I have had a similiar experience. We were supposedly booked into a platimun resort in Vail CO., Vail Run. It was an awful experience. The Staff was extremely rude, including the Manager, Alan McLean. The incident that blew it all was when my niece had gone to town to get soup for my other niece who was sick in bed with a fever. She called the resort for the resort bus to pick her up, 1 mile away! 35 minutes later it had still not arrived but a town bus picked her up and took her back. No problem, she never mentioned it. The resort bus driver confronted later in the lobby, wanting to know why she called if she wasn't going to wait for him! The BUS DRIVER EVEN HAD ATTITUDE! When I spoke to the manager he couldn't have been ruder! This was our vacation! When I called Interval International they told me they have no control over their resorts. And yet they have this resort listed as a PLATIMUM RESORT! Are they kidding me! A ruined vacation and no one cares! I cannot believe that we are stuck with such a poorly run organization! I am not done! I will not pay for another week until this is resolved!

The telephone customer service for Interval World is terrible, I waited 1/2 hour to speak to someone about login problems, they transferred me to their "Internet" dept., which was a busy signal. I tried again after another 1/2 hr wait and was transferred to the Internet dept again, and this time they hung up on me. I thought the 3rd time would be a charm, and actually spoke to Vladamir in the tech dept, he assured me he wouldn't hang up on me, put me on hold to investigate, then hung up on me. Hard to believe that a company can stay in business with service like this.

Was on hold for over 20 minutes then THEY disconnected me . Have now been on for 40+ minutes.

They call them exchanges but by the time charges are paid it would have been cheaper to to book room outright
Buyer beware!
Also they pushed gold membership which we purchased. After purchase they told me of the many many limitation which made the upgrade useless for us. Flushed that money down the toilet.
Unequal service
Most vacation exchanges start on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. We were given a cancellation exchange date deadline of November 17, 2017 which is a Wednesday! No possibility we've been told of making it an ending date of the next weekend. But we could end it earlier on November 13, 14, or 15 which costs us an extra week to fill the week or lose it and our $139 exchange fee. Interval is there to make money, period. There is no understanding as to why a week had to be cancelled from them. Use it, according to their rules, or lose it is their motto. Make it difficult for the member to get equal value is what they stand for. To sum it up, Interval does not care about its members.

Interval international failed to keep their word that they would notify us and provide 24 hours to accept a trade of our time share. We have lost our time share week as of this date. They said it was a computer error but they refused reinstate our week.

We have been Interval members for 20+ years and have never experienced any difficulty getting an exchange. Well, until this year. We deposited our Colorado 3 bedroom unit back in October and requested a 2 bedroom unit in Park City, Utah. They attempted to give us an efficiency unit. We are now 16 days from our flight and still do not have an exchange. We call every day and must again explain our situation to the Interval employee. They can't get us an exchange, but do their best in attempting to get us to upgrade our membership. We are very disappointed with Interval and frustrated with the process. I have a feeling that something is going on with Interval. It has all been very frustrating. We will end up renting some dump, while some family enjoys our three bedroom unit in Breckenridge. Not a happy camper. Not at all.

Why would someone pay $400 a night with Shell Vacations Club points when you can stay at the same Hotel for $150 by booking with Expedia or other website. The economy is in real bad shape and we should let current owner NOT TO PURCHASE MORE POINTS AND MAKE SURE OTHER PEOPLE DO NOT GET SCAMMED ON THIS RIP OFF.

Pending exchange
We have been a member of interval international for 10+ years and have finally had enough! I have 3 wks per year with marriott that i have banked with interval and have requested one week of vacation at 30+ locales for a one month period approx. Mid december 2010 to mid jan 2011. I agreed to be on a "pending list" in july for the fee of $139. 00. Nothing has opened since then, but we recieve calls from interval every week that ring twice then hang - up. Whenwe call back they try to sell us a new 3 year contract with them for 15% of retail price while mentoining they have no exchange for us. I realize now what the travel savvy have known for years. . . Never invest in a timeshare! The price of the buy - in, maintenence fees, exchange fees, and pending reservation fees, would buy a week per year at the ritz - carlton or equivalent the rest of our lives. Something to ponder before you invest in ii. . . What a rip - off.
I take it they suck to work with.
Won't fix their mistakes
As a Marriott time share owner, I must use Interval International to trade locations, even if I wish to stay at another Marriott resort.
Interval offers Marriott owners a "request first" option, which allows the owner to first have a specific resort and date confirmed before depositing their "home resort" week with Interval.
After booking the specific week I wanted at my home resort with Marriott, I contacted Interval with a request first exchange. I was specific that the check in date had to be exactly the date that I had already booked with Marriott, albeit that I wanted occupancy at a resort on a different Hawaiian Island. Same dates -- different resort -- simple, yes? Well no.
Approximately 3 weeks later, while travelling, I received an email confirmation but could not actually read in on my hand held device as the pdf attachment would not enlarge. After returning home and opening the attachment on my laptop I saw that although they got the desired resort correct, the date of check in was wrong.
I immedately called Interval and reported their mistake. They say that since my original week was already given away, they could not get it back nor could they guaranty that I could get the new resort for the dates I had requested. They agreed to put me on a "priority list" but that seems just to mean that I wait for something to happen; they are not taking any proactive measures.
I have called them to follow up several times; They have told me to stop calling them and just to "wait and see". They will not allow me to escalate this to anyone in their management organization. Marriott also says they cannot help.
I have suggested to each that since they partner with each other, the Marriott and Interval account managers must have the latitude to make it right. Neither organization is willing to fix the error -- although clearly it was Interval's mistake.
I have lost my home resort week and cannot check in to the traded resort until after I have authorized occupancy. Although it is only one day different, it is not what I asked for and does not allow me to make early flight plans as there may be changes, all of which will cost me either in change fees or in loss on one day of useage.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

IT sounds to me like your Resort is the one with the problem not II. Your Resort switched you to a lesser plan with II. While your complaint is valid it is against the wrong company. You should get a class action suit against Shell Beachoy Club for giving you the shaft. I will keep this review in mind if my resort ever tries to switch me.
RCI has been a big disappointment to me. Sounds like all you did was bank weeks with RCI.
Sounds like a bad deal for you. All of Hawaii has a pretty good Demand number altho not above a 10. Have you used your RCI exchange much? We have not been impressed with the RCI exchanges, only one so far even came close to a good resort compared to what we own. Looks like you had banked a bunch of weeks with RCI so you must not have traveled to outside resorts much.
I am switching to I I... selling more RCI resort and making an even move to an II resort because all the RCI places I stayed at were not that great. All the good high points places get taken years before I even see them listed.
It does sound like you got a bad deal thru your resort when they switched you to II...
It does not sound like your are having problems with II tho... more like with your home resort.
