System Mechanic, IOLO, is nothing more than a scam to infect your computer and continue to take your money. Do not let them convince you of their "money back gaurantee".
The Guarantee is false! You will never see your money again once you have allowed them access to your credit card.
Their "experts" are in India and have no idea what they are doing. I spent at least 16 hours on the phone with them. They only made my situation worse.
No promised refund ever appeared!
Stick with Norton or Symantec. These are really the only legitinate protectors.
Don't learn the hard way like I had to.

I can say from direct experience as a former employee of one of the related companies (support choice) yes, they are a complete scam. If you use the free product you have stumbled down the rabbit hole as on a brand new computer WITH NO BLOATWARE, a completely fresh image of Windows Vista/7 it finds anywhere from a few dozen to a few hundred errors that you must pay to have fixed. This is where the real fun begins, because once you have shown ANY willingness to PAY you are marked and the real program begins. If you install the full version to correct the problem, either immediately, or at some in the near future through an update, your computer is DISABLED- they actually would corrupt key registry keys that disabled Windows Update, Windows Firewall, Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and the Base Filtering Engine. Suddenly your machine is completely hosed and you call US for support because as far as you know everything was fine till you ran the Update. Then they tell you you have viruses (which is not always the case, and it is not the virus disabling the computer) and send you to their Premium Support Partners-whoever they be at the time. Now you have went from spending less than a hundred bucks to speed up your PC to paying 299.99 a year for "Premium Service". We would then run a bunch of FREE tools like Malwarebytes to remove the few legitimate infections the marks had, but the computers would still NOT work until we did a key ingredient- imported the registry keys our product had corrupted.
I must say I did not do well at this company, having only did three sales, I felt dirty. Most of what I did was fix stuff that the sales people could not fix (they are hiring ONLY SALES people now). When I and one other employee ran the tool on virtual machine images with no problems and they too were disabled, we reported it to the management. They sort of looked at us like we were stupid. Of course I was asked to resign. I refused and dared them to fire me because at the time I was the only certified guy they had.
They waited 4 months after that to fire me. So Here I am telling the truth. The VAST majority of this companies customers are victims.
i bought the iolo system at walmart..bought the 3 year warranty, tried to download system, would not work, called iolo customer service, for a FEE they would fix the problem, tried to return to walmart, they dont take it back, product has to be retuned to iolo for refund, iolo said no refunds unless i pay the extra fee for them to fix the download etc, , took computer back to factory specs, downloaded the iolo system, what a mess, windows would no longer work, windows defender would not run, tried to uninstall the system, would not go away, took comp back to factory specs again, iolo gone but computer is still not right, have to run in safe mode. i believe this outfit is a scam, and told them so at walmart [like they care]...be sure to read the comment by RedKey9 above/below, i honestly believe iolo did something to corrupt my computer,
They same thing and much more. E, rwKoonce.(29 2016.
I have IOLO System Mechanic on my PC. I paid for a year. Now I have received a bill for $19.95. I did not order or buy anything else from them. Their ad keeps showing up on the lower part of my screen. It seems that by shutting it off, it must take that as a purchase. I am challenging the charge with PayPal and my credit card company. I have a good credit card company. They are going to support me in this attempt to refuse to pay the bill.
I have IOLO annual system mechanic paid for on my PC. I just got a bill for $19.95. I have challenged it with PayPay and my credit card company. IOLO keeps flagging my PC on the lower right corner of my screen trying to sell me something else. I also x it out. I wonder if that causes IOLO to bill me as if I ordered something. I will see what happens in four or five days when the "automatic" payment is scheduled. I have never set up any automatic payment with IOLO either.! I am going to cancel IOLO system mechanic even though I have 10 months left and will lose some money. And I will cancel my credit card and get a new one.
They refused to cancel my service. They are trying to bill me another $19.95 claiming this was the agreement in the purchase. That is not true. I have a copy of the web page which I used to place the order for one year, with no other charges until the end of the first year. I will make another complaint to my credit card company today.
I first purchased Sys Mech 1/6/18. Improvements have been made and as of this writing on 3/23/22 it is pretty reliable.
HUGE COMPLAINT: DO NOT expect a REFUND if you cancel an extended subscription. DO NOT take advantage of their constant emails of low price offers and extend your coverage beyond a year. A refund is only allowed for 30 or 60 days post purchase. IOLO will NOT refund your money for a multi-year prepay.
I PPD until Jan 2025, 1000+ days from now buying their low priced offers from time to time for $9.95 per year.
Do what you want. When it comes to money, it only travels one way - to them!
I've been using system mechanic since 2015. It was a great programme. Actually, it still is. But now it throws constant popups on your screen, which is awful, but worse is that its a front for a scam. They will constantly charge your credit card for fake things like 'tech support', and you can't stop it, the only way is to cancel the card. I have my card frozen at the moment and they are constantly trying to take different amounts of money to se what they can get. The 'accounts department' is just a scam centre in India who try to get more from you. Do not touch this company!
I've come to realise the programme itself was a scam. I thought for years I needed it to fix my internet and speed up my PC. But its run better than ever since I deleted system mechanic. I'm certain system mechanic was causing issues and pretending to solve them.
Been using iolo system mechanic for years. This year they started this automatic renewal system that I was never informed about nor authorized. I always purchase it myself because they always offer discounts every year, so that’s what I did this year. After I purchased my discounted ultimate defense this year, I started getting emails from my previous accounts that I purchased iolo on in past years that my iolo was going to be automatically renewed. I called them telling them I’ve already ready purchased iolo fro this year and to cancel and remove my card for all automatic payments. After I thought the matter settled, the following few days these automatic renewals started going through…
Long story short, I’ve talked to talked to customer service multiple times since August and have only just now received a refund for only one of the three charges I’ve received. Do not use iolo, they will only steal your money!
worst product I got nailed twice for buying there crap product..They are not real..Thieves - complete billing scam
.
Do not purchase from iolo. They will bill you for tech support that you would never use. I uninstalled their software (system mechanic) after it slowed my p.c. down considerably. Been a loyal user for 10 years but never again.
I have cancelled my credit card used fir purchase also screw you iolo and your scam!
Wish I had known about your experience before I got scammed... I had used Iolo technology services for several years... All good until last week when a technician named "Mark Alan" strung me along supposedly working on my computer for several days, then convincing me my problems were driver related and it needed software he had to purchase on EBay to fix my issues.. Well being worn down by this process I agreed and was then involved in an EBaY GIFT CARD SCAM... Angry and embarrassed at myself Never Again. I want to cancel my system mechanic subscription, and find a reputable..Needless to say lesson learned and I can't recover my payments...
Iolo refuses to stop taking money from my account. They have taken over 400 dollars from my account without permission. Good news I have Iolo for the next 4 years bad news they refuse to stop. I had close my debit card get a new one and count my losses. It used to be a legit business. It's a dying business that should be shut down.
System mechanic is A company run by bunch of dicey individuals with a scam to intentionaly get your email wrong so them can show you a presentation to upsell you on a number of products. Used to be a great company but has gone done downhill.
I too have been using Sys Mechanic for several years. They have been trying to have me sign up for live support, and even billed me unknowingly after my last license "extension". I had my credit card company void the charge. Now Iolo is causing me problems by blocking a needed system file, claiming it was infected. I was unable to remove it from quarantine and called for help. I was basically told to F off because I cancelled the live service. Apparently there is NO support for any problems with the program. Despite having paid the license thru 2025, I promptly uninstalled the program and reloaded my Op Sys and will use another anti-virus. Why pay for a program and then pay $20 a month for support for that program? I just realized what a rip off it is.
My exact issue .. IOLO have changed into a underhanded operation .. I was also billed $20 US for the live support i did not request and got no satisfaction contacting them to cancel the service.. I also had to contact paypal to not pay their bill. Now I get another notice from a different billing company that I will be charged for an unwanted and un-needed service.. I do not trust IOLO one iota.. Too bad ... the product was pretty good. AVOID iolo at all costs
This is DaBuck again. After having removed Iolo Sys Mech, my pc has miraculously been working like new. It had been extremely slow, and despite having a high speed internet, it took forever to load or access anything on online. I thought it was my pc, but now everything just flys! I never thought it was Iolo causing my problems. I thought I had to get a new pc. So glad I got rid of that program.
I purchased Iolo Drive Scrubber at Staples to clean the hard drive on my Windows10 computer.
After several hours of attempts and "support?" for an hour with an Iolo technician the program would not boot on my computer. My attempts resulted in a circle of putting the original disk in the computer, following directions to create a boot disk, reboot the computer with the boot disk which resulted in being asked to "create a boot disk. Technical support tried to solve the problem. They ended up saying there was no download for Drive Scrubber (despite directions saying I could download the program to a thumb drive and run it from that. His solution was to spend anywhere from $100 to $300 dollars for a version of System Mechanic with technical support when all I wanted to do was clean the hard drive before giving the computer away. The software support person at Iolo claimed to have no record of my purchase in spite of my inputting the activation key prior to trying to use it. Staples claims it's up to Iolo to make good on the product and will not issue a refund. Hence Drive Scrubber seems to be a scam to get you to purchase a more expensive product.
BEWARE! This is a scam. I have used system mechanic for many years and it used to be legitimate now like previous reviews it does not work that good. I have purchased every year for around the same price but this December when I purchased it I unknowingly signed up for a $19.95 a month charge for support which comes out of India. Not sure if this company sold out to someone else as it was a good company but now I wouldn't recommend to anyone.
AVOID - You will be payment scammed.
Bought System Mechanic one year ago. Automatically one year later, with no forewarning, I was charged $69.99 to my credit card. By the time I received my credit card statement it was over 30 days from Iolo charging the account. I contested. I did not want the renewal and Iolo states, have to contest charge within 30 days, we are not refunding.
I got a pop up notification telling me that my Iolo System Mechanic was expiring and I could renew my subscription at a discount. I was asked for my credit card information. I tried paying with a prepaid VISA debit card so that they could not over-charge me. Iola refused to accept my card and said that "prepaid debit cards could not be used to pay for System Mechanic. They said that prepaid debit cards could not be used to pay for their product. I guess they can't get access to your bank account to steal additional fees that way.
I ordered a year of system mechanic for $15. I made sure I didn't select anything else. Pop ups on my pc kept coming up at the most inopportune times. Then I got charged every month for $20 and called wondering why. They said tech support. I didn't agree to tech support and I wanted a refund... They then charged me and took money from my account. I called again a week later. They tried up selling me to more products. I said I was sick of it and I wanted a refund for everything, seeing how I used their product for a month, I decided $15 they can have. I had a unsatisfactory experience with this company. Good Luck. I'm going to wait to see if they are actually going to refund me.
I renewed my contract for 1 yr. answered no to the question of monthly tech service for 19.95.i had remembered that along with my 3 yr service that they had added this to my service in very small print. took a couple of months to catch it. but i was not happy.
So when my contract was up for renewal and i renewed it there's a question if i would like the tech service for 19.95.so i think great at least i have the question to ask if i want. i hit the no button, of coarse. i think it done no extra service. guess what couple of months later there it is 19.95 monthly took couple of months to catch. i call them up they inform me rather i want it or not i got it free for 1 month {thats so you wont catch it when you check] and i have to cancel it afterwards to not get charged and conveniently they cant send me a copy of the contract cause they dont do that know more.
