2014 Kia Optima
To whom it may concern,
I own a pearl white 2014 Kia Optima; however, I am having an issue with the paint peeling and flaking off. My hood is peeling and the windshield pillars also. I googled this issue and there is ALOT of complaints about the exact same color paint and same areas. I called my local dealer and asked if there was a recall. They told me no. I do know that Hyundai had a recall on their pearl white paint and the recall is covering repairs. What does it take to get a recall? Listen, I do love the car but I have already had to replace the motor because it locked up on my daughter on 95 doing 65 miles per hour and almost got her killed and now this. I know the two don't compare but I think I should be compensated for something that seems to be a problem nationwide with the exact same paint and yea of the car. I am looking forward to hearing from you. I am not sure I would recommend a kia to anyone at this point.
Thank You Sue Bonsall Cell# [protected] sue. [protected]@yahoo.com
Desired outcome: PS..I do have pictures but i could not figure out how to change them from a PDF to a JPEG etc.... I can send them in regular email if i can get an address. Thanks
KIA Seltos 2023
My name is Loretta Herring, my email is [protected]@gmail.com
I purchased a new KIA Seltos Nov of 2022. Just 4 Months ago! Purchase from Gardendale AL at Serra KIA, I live in Birmingham, AL The car only have 4200 miles. HELP! Since then I have had 6 trips to the service department because the engine light continues to come on after each service claim is fixed. First, the small pieces inside the engine were missing because they said the flaps weren't working which caused it to malfunction, after waiting for the part to come in and they fixed it then the next day the engine light is on again and they said the flaps needed to be replaced. Now the engine light is on again I am really not sure if they know what the problem is. Each time requires a trip to diagnose and a trip to fix the issue. Still, the issue remains engine light constantly comes back on. Have I been sold a lemon? I am very frustrated with the constant back and forth and no resolution. Why can't this problem be solved without me making a 20-minute trip there and 20 minutes back every week only to have the same issue? Now I am asked to bring it in again and leave it overnight? HELP!
Desired outcome: Please provide me a refund for the entire purchase of $30,350.00 or a new car compatible.
Kia Sorento 2016
Bought our 2016 Kia Sorento brand new off the lot. In December 2022 noticed paint peeling on roof of vehicle across windshield line. It has been getting progressively worse. Noticed this at approx. 52,000-mile mark. It appears that rust is now developing as well. Looking to see how to go about filing a claim to get this issue resolved at no cost to us due to the deficient paint used to paint our Kia.
Desired outcome: Would like direction on how to file a claim to get the car re-painted due to the poor-quality paint used from factory.
Our 2016 Kia Sorento has paint peeling on roof right over windshield. This started 1/2023 when vehicle had approx. 52,100 miles on it. The area in questions is about 24"w x 4" h going across the roof line. It is getting progressively worse.
Customer Service at Palm Springs
My name is Cuitlahuac Naranjo, my number is [protected], my email is [protected]@outlook.com
I visited your Palm Springs Kia location on Friday 01/27/23 because I am in search of a new vehicle, a 2023 Kia Sportage SX Prestige plug-in hybrid. One of the salespersons, Alejandro Rojas Rosas, was helping me out and was very helpful, took me on the test drive and was ready to give me numbers on the vehicle. As the negotiation started, the Sales manager Alex Morales, came out and didn't want to deal with me at all. I was asking him questions about the MSRP, the final sales price and what my payments would look like. He told me I could look up these things online. He basically told me that the sales price listed was final and was not open any negotiation whatsoever. He then just walked away and left me siting there. The whole experience was humiliating because the initial salesperson was there, and he even looked lost. Not only that but there were other people in the dealership that noticed the lack of customer service. I feel the sales manager was very unprofessional, and disrespectful. He's in the sales business and he seemed not to care if the vehicle sold or not. Isn't that what the process is? The buyer and dealership negotiate the price until we both agree. I was left with a very bad taste in my mouth and wouldn't recommend this dealership if family or friends needed to shop for a vehicle. And I am still in the market for a Sportage plug-in hybrid, so if any of your dealerships would like to do business with me, I am open, except for your Palm Springs location.
Desired outcome: To start off, I would like an apology. I was never rude or disrespectful to him or anyone on the dealership premises. I would also like for sales manager to receive continuous training on customer service.
Paint peeling (snow white pearl) on my 2013 kia optima
I noticed about 2 years ago (2021) the paint beginning to peel away on my 2013 Kia Optima (VIN#5XXGN4A73DG230946) on the driver's side hood and attributed it to a rock hitting it on the highway. And, then I thought that it happened again on the passenger side with smaller flecks being made on the hood. (I thought it to be odd that the paint would be so sensitive being that my 1997 Nissan Altima at that time was nearly 18 y/o and the paint was still completely intact). Upon further examination of the car, I noticed that the paint was peeling around the entire perimeter of the windshield. Then, in the summer 2022, flecks of paint had started to chip near the gas tank. And in December 2022, large pieces of paint began coming off the door above the window on the driver's side with more to follow as I see the puckering of the paint.
I have filed a complaint with Kia providing 2 quotes in their initial request. One of the quotes was provided by a local Kia Dealership where I was told that Kia would address quotes only for the affected areas. This makes NO sense considering they have acknowledged that there is a confirmed issue with how this paint was administered. The paint adherence is compromised and is defective. (It's like building a house on a foundation that is compromised in its entirety and only wanting to correct the part of the foundation that's giving way). You're not doing the right thing nor best thing if you're only doing half of it. And why would Kia want its customers to drive a patchwork vehicle?! LEXUS thought more of their customers by stepping up to their name & reputation and completely correcting their paint issue for their customers).
I obtained a 2nd quote from a paint and body shop to paint the entire car. The 2nd quote to paint the entire car was nearly half the cost of what it would cost to just paint the affected areas. They also provided a quote for just the affected areas that exceeded the cost of painting the entire car. I was informed by a Kia case worker, that Kia probably would not consider the quote to paint the entire car since it didn't follow the protocols that have been established for this issue. Kia then asked that I obtain 2 additional quotes from other sources. I went to a second Kia Dealership body shop and was again told that Kia may only consider the affected areas. I was also told that I may not be considered for reparations since I am the second owner of the car. What difference does that make? The paint is still defective whether I was the original owner or not! (I bought the garage kept car used with 30k miles from the dealership that provided the first paint quote. When purchased, the car looked brand new inside and out! I honestly could not tell the difference.)
The 2nd dealership indicated that Kia would probably not look to correct the issue since the cost to correct the affected areas only would cost more than what the car is worth but said they would still provide the quote.
For cost comparison purposes, I also requested that they provide the cost to paint the entire car since the defective paint seems to be non-discriminatory.
I received a 4th quote for both approaches that exceeded the cost of the first 2 quotes put together. Kia is evaluating my complaint, but I have been informed that they will probably only address the affected areas. This is not an acceptable solution or resolution.
Desired outcome: I am asking that the entire car be repainted to the quality standard that it should have received when it was constructed, painted, and sold.
2016 kia optima
Dear CEO,
I bought my 2016 Kia optima from a car lot in Las Vegas. After being in Vegas for a year I decided time to upgrade my car. So, I got approved for this car, and the bank Quality Acceptance took on my loan 14,000$ later. Not even 9 days after date of purchase my Brand new to me Kia was stolen right from under my bedroom window. Thankfully 2 days prior the bank had me put a gps on it for them. It came in handy. The morning of October the 6th 2022 I woke up as normal got ready for work, looked out my window and my car was gone. I was able to have the bank locate it and call towing to recover it. I had to pay over 250$ to get it out of towing which I have the paperwork from the police report to recovery, to insurance claims to you name it I got it. So, because of this set back having to put out money I did not have after getting my car back from the Kia dealership in Las Vegas, which might I add was the worst experience ever, because no one seemed to be concerned my car for the damage that was done was over 2 months of work and they still did not have the panels for the column on back order and still do. The night of the 01-29-23 I parked my car under my main window as I have been since getting it back, I woke up on [protected] as again getting ready for work I go to leave to work, and my Door lock has been busted. I think when they saw the wheel lock they took off. I made a police report which only serves me the purpose so I can have it for my records and also trying to break my lease. I am not going to make another claim on my insurance because that will be 2 in less than 6 months and my insurance which is already high will go up even more. I am asking you as a CEO to take accountability and make a change a recall or something to help us who own Kias be comfortable with having one. Since the first moment of this I wake up many times of the night just to look out my window because both times that this has happened the alarm has not gone off. I am tired I really hate my car now that a second attempt to steal it has happened. I cannot back out of the bank loan with repercussions. Where in the right mind is this ok? Please a valid email and perfect response will not make it better, but it will be a start. I work hard for my money; I do not work to give my money away and because of your production assembly many people have suffered. Make this right!
Desired outcome: I would like in some way to be able to feel comfortable having a KIA
Snow White Pearl Paint
In September 2022 after a rain storm, a chunk of paint peeled off my 2015 Kia Sorento driver side pillar. I filed another complaint in January as a massive section peeled off my passenger pillar. Chunks of paint are also peeling off my hood. Paint should not peel off a car this easily while driving down a road. There are several complaints regarding this color of paint with Kia and Hyundai. I have contacted my local dealer to no avail as well as contacted the news station.
Desired outcome: I want Kia to repaint my car or reimburse me to repaint my car.
2017 kia sedona electrical wiring
My heat/air conditioning wiring system, light system in front and back lights, as well as the electrical to my rear passenger side window has not worked properly since I bought my Kia. The front lights burn out at the same time. I have replaced them 4x's. When I hit a bump in the road my air or heat turn off. The back taillights filled with water and caused burn out multiple times of my taillights. The entire wiring system in this van has been messed up.
Desired outcome: recall on electrical wiring of Kia Sedona
Engine/oil consumption negligence
I bought my 2016 Kia Sorento LX brand new on the lot in Franklin, TN. I have one month to pay on it, and this is what I have went through. The radio has been an issue since we bought it. It goes off and you have to use a special tool to get it turned back on. We have had it replaced at least twice. Then there was an issue with the back hatch, dome light doesn't come on at all, then the big thing happened it started consuming tremendous amts of oil no matter if we took it in for oil changes and did ALL routine maintenance on the vehicle. Then the engine started where it had no power and so you couldn't go over 40 mph and that does not go well on the interstate. Took it to Kia they wanted over $4000 to fix it. So then had to have it towed to another mechanic and they fixed the vehicle, and we paid out over $2000 not to mention the tow bills. So we got the vehicle back knowing all the time that our year, make and model has engine issues as well as oil consumption issues. So a month after having the vehicle back it starts acting up again so I had to tow it from my work back to the place that fixed it originally. They did all the tests and diagnostics and determined it needed an engine (which mine does have the lifetime warranty on the engine b/c of the recall per the dealer) so i had it towed to Murfreesboro TN to the Kia dealership. They call me and say oh no it doesn't need an engine it's just a burnt valve and that will cost you over $5000 for us to fix it. So, sinking all this money into a vehicle that they don't stand behind and they don't honor their warranty. So, what happens I pay out $5000 and it does it again. Money just keeps adding up not to mention it is still taking 3 quarts of oil a week. I can't afford to pay them $5000 what do I do, and I don't want another car payment. I am so lost b/c I need a vehicle to get back and forth to work.
Desired outcome: Newengine0cost.Refundedallinconvenience.Refundforthe$2200forother mechanic.3tow bills=$615.Newradio.Refundonoilforthepastyearavgof3qts wk.Domelightfixed.Passengerdoorfixedtdoesn’tlatchproperly
I purchased a 2016 brand new Kia Optima in October of 2016. After approximately 2 1/2 years the engine blows. I had no idea what I was going to do for a vehicle as I was borrowing from family members to get back and forth to work. No recall was sent out regarding the engine failures they were having so I didn't know to take it to the dealership. When I called and told them what had happened, they said, "oh yeah, there's a recall on the engines, bring it in and we'll diagnose it". I took it in and sure enough they had to replace it. I had to wait 2 months because they were on back order with the manufacturer. When the engine was replaced we were told that there was a lifetime warranty on the replacement engine.
There are 130,000 miles on the replacement engine, and it has been burning oil like crazy for months now. I have called the dealership and Kia Support and they tell me that whoever told me there was a lifetime warranty was completely incorrect, the only warranty on the replacement engine "for my specific car" is the rod bearing. So, now not only is my car burning oil, it is now also leaking oil from the head gasket.
I currently work at a car dealership and my entire service department has stated that my car should not be burning this much oil or leaking oil. The engine only has 130,000 miles on it.
I'm in the same boat with the same engine as you. Frustrating, EXTREMELY frustrating.
An extra fee on 2023 Telluride
We recently purchased a 2023 Telluride the msrp was close to $53000.00, but there was a fee of $6000.00 added on the price when we did the contract. We were told that Kia is charging this due to the demand of the Telluride. We have been loyal customers of Kia, but after this we will probably not buy from Kia again and tell our friends about this. I don’t think the customer should have to paid this fee for purchasing your vehicles and would like to know if this is a standard practice of yours.
Desired outcome: The truth about this fee Plus a refund
My question is why KIA dealerships are charging 5000 to 8000 over MSRP for KIA Telluride. Ironically, no one should charge above MSRP. I am not sure if you are aware of this issue, or you are ok with this. If you are ok, then why to keep MSRP, I see a lack of corporate governance and the same time I feel customers are getting cheated.
Auto
I own a 2018 Kia Sportage and a 2015 Kia Optima, both are at risk for theft due to a KIA build error.
I am reviewing my auto insurance policy and wanted to change companies. However I am unable to, do to the high theft of these vehicles. This is not my fault, it is KIA's.
What is being done about this? You should be already offering lock kits. This is a situation you have created, not the consumer.
Please respond as this is urgent!

Peeling paint
2014 Kia snow ehite pearl
vin # 5xykt3a63fg607436
6 months ago Oct 22 the window panel peeled - repainted $350.00
now the hood - Jan 23 $500.00
picture enclosed. This has to be a defect from Kia
the car was bougt new from Kia Carson California. So far unable to get any help.
Kia tel line - 2-3 hours wait. I finally got a live person and the phone was disconnected.
What a service... I am not happy
Desired outcome: reimbursement $850.00 total
Service negligence
I took my car for 1st service to Kia East rand mall on 26/1 - collected the car same day and immediately when I got home I opened the bonnet only find out it was very dirty , dusty and found a piece of meat on top of the battery. I went back to Kia the next morning 27/1 - the manager told me that they dont clean the engine , fair enough I said you dont wash the engine with water pipe however surely the technician who was working on the car should have seen that piece of meat , removed it and dusted of the engine with the cloth and left it clean . I am even doubting that they did service the car how can they say they opened the bonnet and leave such things ? I am really disappointed and hurt with the service received .
Maintenance service I don't know if I received
On January 10, 2023, I took my Kia Optima to the Kia of Cerritos for regular maintenance service. I noticed a nail in my tire, so I requested the nail be removed and the tire be repaired. The service advisor assured me that the technician would check everything while the car was on the rack. He then came back to tell me that there was no air seeping around where the nail was. Even though all the tires air pressure was reset, but for some reason, they did not remove the nail and did not repair the tire. They did, however, suggest that I buy four (4) new tires. I was now confused and upset that they did not repair the tire. One week later, the low tire indicater came on and I had to take my car to another tire shop to have the tire repaired. They did not try to sell me more new tires, they just honored my request to fix my tire. Now i'm wondering was anything else omitted. Did any of the other services get omitted? I can't verify it but I feel that I was taken advantaged of. My request for service was ignored, but I was still charged $220.00. I think my car was not really serviced. Why would they send me on my way knowing I had a faulty tire, which could have resulted in my being stranded somewhere?
Desired outcome: I think I need my 220.00 returned!
Kia Niro in workshop without repair date due to lack of part
KIA Niro with 4 months in an official workshop in Barcelona from 12-12-2022 due to automatic transmission failure. Kia Spain does not have an arrival date for the part. I can't locate an email where I can contact someone from KIA Korea who works to solve the problems of their faulty cars. From Kia Spain they do not give me a solution, I imagine that Fabrica cannot leave a KIA hanging in an elevator and disassembled for months because they cannot supply a part of their cars. It is hard to imagine that KIA does not have specialized personnel to quickly repair defects caused by using defective parts. The car has been in the workshop for 45 days and no one at KIA can work a little to give a solution to a problem of replacing a defective part.
Desired outcome: Replacement of vehicle or send defective part by urgent transport that is 3 days
I want to work at KIA, it is paid at the end of the month and you don't have to work, where do I sign up?
Kia Sportage NQ5 Harman Kardon back speakers and subwoofer
In my new Kia Sportage, the sound from the Harman Kardon back speakers and subwoofer is almost inexistent. I basically bought a 3 speaker premium sound system, as the only sound and bass I get comes from the front. I bought it new from Romania, Bucharest - AUTONET dealer.
Bought the car in June 2022.
At centered sound balance, only the front 3 speakers can be heard. The back 2 + subwoofer are so low amplified, that they are like inexistent.
When moving the center of the sound to the back, so that it outputs only from the back speakers and subwoofer, there is absolutely no bass coming and very weak and low sound even at maximum volume.
Desired outcome: Fix the problem with the amplifier for the back speakers and subwoofer.
Defective paint
I purchased a 2017 Kia Optima in the summer of 2019. Less than a year the paint on the trunk of my vehicle began chipping after a rock from the highway hit it. Now I have almost no paint on the trunk at all. The laminated clear coat is peeling off of the bumpers and just this week I noticed the paint is beginning to chip away from the hood of the vehicle. I have suffered no damage to the vehicle of my own doing that would cause this and the paint peeling is in impossible spots for it to have been caused my another vehicle or myself.
Desired outcome: Reimbursement for a new paint job.
Kia Sedona Ex-2015
My Kia has been serviced by Kia the majority of the time.
The car overheated and when we took it to Kia they say we have to replace the engine and that it is going to cost us anywhere from $7,000-$15,000.
The car just went over the 100,000 mile warranty.
I owe $7,200 on that vehicle currently. I wanted this to be my forever car.
I am made aware that Kia has engine recalls but they claim that my specific engine is not included.
I believe that my engine is defective.
Desired outcome: I would like the cost of the engine replacement to be covered by Kia.I was told I could get a new Kia and the Sales departments' idea of "helping me" is marking up the price of the new vehicle $12,000 more.
