I have bought 4 new KIA's from the dealerships. Two from Hagerstown KIA in Maryland and two from Thompsons KIA in Winchester Virginia. I was planning on buying on another KIA purchase. Emphasis on was. The paint on my current KIA the 2014 Sorento is pealing from both post on either side of the windshield as well as the roof. I have showed Thompsons KIA in Virginia where I bought it. They sent me to Jim Stutzman Chevrolet Collision Center in Winchester Virginia. Thompsons KIA in Winchester Virginia has no paint people to evaluate paint problems. The guy at Jim Stutzman Chevrolet Collision Center in Winchester Virginia said the paint peeling is a result of something between the primer and the colored paint. I am riding around in a KIA SUV that looks terribly embarrassing. Embarrassing for me and KIA. I would like to have this issue addressed. I have called Thompsons KIA with no results. Please advise.
Does anyone read this? Does anyone care?
I also have a 2014 KIA Sorento Pearl White, that is also peeling paint in the exact same places; the two post on either side of the windshield, as well as along the top of the windshield. In speaking to Kia, they acknowledge that there's a problem with the paint but refuse to do anything about it because my warranty ran out.
Shame on them for not standing by there product. In researching this online, I was shocked to find how many other people are having the same problem and getting the same answer!
CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IS NEEDED to help the consumers from getting ripped off! KIA knows this is a problem and isn't doing anything about fixing it or rectifying it with it's customers!
I will never buy KIA again!
I have this exact same issue! I didn’t know there was more then just me.
I have 2013 kia same problem 59000 miles same results heard there was a class action lawsuit in Calf.
I have the same issue with my pearl white paint peeling off and with all the complaints they should cover it . I’ve never had any car or truck do that before this one.
I too have a 2014 white serento. The third picture looks just like my car! So disappointing to know Kia doesn’t actually stand behind their product. This is my 2nd Kia and I’ve sent my mother-in-law and my brother-in-law to buy a Kia. Won’t ever happen again.
I have a pearl white 2014 Kia Sorento and the paint peeled off out of nowhere yesterday. I have not contacted Kia yet after reading the many many complaints online that they will not cover the paint defect that clearly happened during production. There were no scratches or bubbles to warn me of it coming off. The paint came off in square sheets all the way to the base. This is unacceptable and bad business to not address the issue after thousands of people have complained about the same issue in the same spots. It's not fair for us as consumers to shell out at least a thousand dollars to fix this problem. I am still paying the car off and it is only 5 years old. My buick lasted 20 years with NO paint peeling issues. How does this not last more then a mere 5 years? This is unacceptable and frustrating to deal with a practically new car. When will KIA be held accountable for this paint defect?
I also have a pearl white 2014 Sorento with a large area of peeling paint on the roof. It looks just like the above pictures and seems to have appeared out of nowhere!
The paint of my 2014 pear white Sorento started peeling at the exact same location as everyone else. This is ridiculous.
I have a 2013 kia sorento and the paint started peeling just above the windshield in five places before I had 50, 000 miles on it. Some other places large spots of the paint started coming off. I carried the car back to dealer they told me the paint was not covered under warranty. I talked to a body shop and they want $3000 or more to repair the paint. I had this car seven years with no accidents during the time I have had it. People ask me why don't they fix the problem when they see it. So I tell them what kia say's and use it to advertise there crappy defects they do not want to repair.
I have a 2015 Kia Sorento and it has the pearl white paint and it’s been peeling off for the past year it is garage kept and I know that there are numerous complaints on that paint only. I think that it should be a recall on the paint, I’ve never had any problems with paint peeling off of any other vehicle that I have owned until this one .
2014 white Pearl, out of nowhere I came out to this! Has anyone tried filling claim with insurance ? Kia should be held accountable!
Same issue with my wife's 2014 KIA Sorento with the snow white pearl paint. Driver's side pillar started as a bubble, then flaked off, then proceeded to flake off in large pieces all down half the length of the pillar. This "delamination" as they call it is a manufacturing defect. The paint simply did not adhere to the primer, and the heat caused its separation. I'm shocked to see all the online posts and pictures of this same is, with hundreds have the same issue on the same spot on the pillars, as well as many other areas. This makes me fear that with any little rick chip or tiny pit ding from a car wash that it will open up new delamination areas all over the car. Heck, based on the other pictures I've seen, I could probably take a plastic scraper started at the peeled area and easily scrape off the entire paint job if I chose to.
I'm planning to call KIA corporate to ask them to cover the costs. Going straight to KIA Motors Corporate seems to have worked for a number of people to get reimbursed after sending them photos and the requested 2 paint repair estimates. Other advice given was to:
1. add on rental car assistance for the time the car is in the shop getting painted (which could be a while), and
2. make sure you change the wording when you sign a settlement agreement to also cover future paint repairs (if they only agree to paint the bad areas and not completely paint the car).
I am having the exact same problem as everyone else with my Pearl White 2014 KIA Sorento. Has anyone been able to get it fixed or know how to submit an actual claim?
And just a warning to all of you, I just had my engine replaced in the 2014 KIA Sorento because of the engine problem. It broke down on us in MD on 270 South at the beginning of June. It has 85, 000 miles on. KIA did pay for that though.
Buy Korean then you have to live with their quality. Next time buy something that you and your neighbours helped build.
Built in the US. Georgia.
rikbp@yahoo.com same issue KIA 2014 pearl white peeling off and they say there nothing we can do about it
My wife's 2013 we bought brand new is chipping above the windshield. Huge pieces missing and starting to rust. Going to get it fixed after the holiday, paying out of my own pocket of course.
I have a 2014 KIA Sorento (Pearl Snow white paint); suddenly, the paint peeled off (started on the passenger side above the windshield). I took pictures, contacted KIA Canada today, and got a call reference number. They said I have to take it to the dealer, and there is nothing KIA can do to fix this or cover the cost as the vehicle is more than 5yr old and out of warranty. This is the first time I ever experience or seen paint peeling off without any reason (I park my SUN inside the garage all the time). If KIA could not help their consumers and cover the repair cost for an unusual vehicle issue, I would never refer this brand to anyone.
It's completely their fault, that specific paint they used had adhesion issues. KIA did nothing for me and it cost $700 to have above the windshield and roof painted. I'll never buy KIA again, the paint was just one issue of oh so many that KIA never covered.
