The worst hospital and the worst emergency staff (Stella)
Came with my mom with severe pain on her left side from head to toe and heart ache that she couldn’t sit for a second. In triage 2 a rude nurse name Stella (Russian accent) did not even listen to the patients concerns. First thing she said “why did you come if you have pain. Just take your medication”. The patient is in severe pain she didn’t even give a pain killer. Waited for doctors to call for 2 hours. My mom was moaning from pain went to Stella and asked if she can get a pain killer she didn’t even listen and walk away saying it’s not a priority she is breathing.
Recommendation: I would recommend the hospital to teach their staff some ethics
On August 28th at 1445 hrs I took my mom to Mackezie Health Richmond hill emergency for severe pain. We were called to triage 2 for assessment. We went to the nurse my mom could barely walk from pain. I explained the problem and mentioned that we were here last week and the medications or not working her left side has pain and her heart is hearting as well. First thing the nurse (Stella) in Russian accent said then why is she here. She should take her medication if she was here already. First of all it’s not fun to come to the emergency department. People comes there for a reason. No one likes to spend their 5-6 hours in the hospital for no reason. When I explain to her that her pain is getting worst and she’s been waiting for a week now nothing changed she answered by saying ok go sit down you will be called. We sat down for 2 hours so the doctor can call us. The whole 2 hours by mom was moaning/crying from pain. I could not see her like that anymore. I went to the nurse (Stella) I asked her in a very calm manner “ excuse me, sorry to bother you, my mom is in a severe pain is there any pain medication she can take while we are waiting for the doctor? It’s been 2.5 hours, pain is a priority to” nurse got up from her seat and walk away saying “so tell her to take her pain medication”, I replied saying yeah but she took her pain medication before coming and it’s every 6 hours she can not take it, she replied “no pain is not a priority, bleeding is!”. I was upset at her rudeness and I asked her to talk nicely when I am talking nicely and she walked away from her station. I stood there and waited for her to come. After 1 minute she came back, I told her why are you being rude, the nurse replied saying “ so am not giving anything she is not priority go sit” when I replied saying I know what is priority and what’s not because I am a nurse myself she replied back saying “she is breathing right so not priority”. How rude can she be?Being a nurse and not knowing your ethics? I was really upset and wanted to just cry. We come to the hospital to get treated and this is how we get treated? I was very disappointed. After 3 hours we were called to the room and waited for 1.5 hours for doctor to be seen and she was in a severe pain the whole 4.5 hours. Very disappointed. Never thought a nurse can be this rude. And not only us. The whole time I was sitting there the tone and they why she was talking the patients should not be tolerated. Harsh and rude!

I was referred to Ophthalmology (external) and informed that some one will call me. I called and no one answers my concern. As a senior citizen I am having problems with my eyes and no one seems to care.
I cannot see and will hold you responsible for anything else.
I called to day and was given run arounds by the Clinic and Emergency department.

My experiences at this hospital has been decent since it opened. However, this past experience I had with my child was one of the worst I have come across since I stopped going to Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital. I thought Cortelluci was the improvement that Mackenzie Health needed but I am once again proven wrong and left greatly disappointed.
In the Month of May I experienced some things that made me lose complete trust in Cortelluci Emergency Care Department and their ability to care for me and my family in any crisis.
On Monday May 1st I brought my 4 year old daughter to Cortelluci Emergency Department because she had broken out in weird bumps all around her body and her eyes were drastically swollen as well as a sore throat which hurt her a lot when she swallowed and tried to eat. When the doctor had seen her he had recommended that it was most likely strep throat and the bumps on her skin was Scarlett fever which he told me happens a lot in kids when they get strep throat. Although this was his diagnosis he instructed me to not give my daughter the medication he prescribed for the strep throat because I needed to wait until the Doctor got the result back confirming she indeed had it. I followed the instructions he gave me and didn’t get the medication while waiting to hear back about my daughter’s test results. I didn’t hear anything and kept calling the hospital to ask if any updates were given and how long it would potentially take for me to hear back. The woman on the phone kept telling me that I needed to wait to hear back from the Doctor. About 3-4 days went by and I heard nothing from the Hospital or Doctor. My daughter seemed like she was getting a little better and so I sent her to school.
When my daughter went to school she ended up falling asleep on the classroom floor, was lethargic and not herself. My father brought her to the Mackenzie health Emergency Clinic. When he brought her in, they told him that they could see the test results from the hospital and told me the strep throat test was negative. I was instructed to give my daughter allergy medication like Reactine and Benadryl because the diagnosis was now an allergic reaction. My daughter was given the allergy medication and started to feel and look better. A few nights after in the middle of the night my daughter started projectile vomiting. She threw up 3 times and fell back asleep. The next day I kept an eye on her and was trying to see if she would eat or drink and naturally get better assuming it was probably just a stomach bug she picked up. She ended up not eating a lot for the day and not drinking either. When we came back home she threw up once again roughly another 3 times. Then developed a high fever of 28.5 degrees celcius. So I rushed her to the hospital once again. This was the night of May 10th, it was now my third time bringing her to Makenzie Health Emergency wether it Cortelluci or the Emergency Clinic. When I went in and finally saw the doctor, I was then surprised by the fact that the strep test that was first administered to my child on May 1st was actually positive and I was given the wrong information as well as never contacted by the original doctor who did the test.
Not only did my child have to fight off this sickeness by herself but she was in agonizing pain by the next week because she wasn’t given the medication needed in time to help her as per the direction given to me by the Cortelluci Emergency doctor. I am just speechless that a 4 year old had to go from bad to worse to THEN get the answers that she needed to get better. When I left the hospital on May 11th at 4AM I was given the medication to help push out the virus from the strep throat and was told to give her Tylenol and Advil for any pain she had. She was also having horrible pains in her stomach and the doctor said she was constipated because she wasn’t hydrated due to throwing up and fighting the virus from the strep throat. She also hardly kept anything down due to the fact that her throat hurt her so bad she would refuse take anything.
So now as her mother you can see my frustration and utter disgust at how things were handled. It did not stop there as then on May 11th later that day I went to get the prescription filled for my still sick 4 year old daughter and came to realize that the Cortelluci Emergency Department Doctor gave me another patient’s prescription.
No words. Like absolutely no words. Speechless. Not only did I have to go back to Cortelluci Emergency myself after working 8 hours and trying to rush back to my sick child, they had me waiting for another hour to get her prescription reprinted.
I am truly disappointed with the level of unprofessionalism and high level of incompetence I endured for two weeks trying to simply get my sick 4 year old daughter some decent health care. I am so demotivated from Mackenzie Health by this experience that I no longer have any trust in this organization to truly treat me and my family with respect and give us proper care going forward. I truly hope some guidance, training and discipline is taken into affect to ensure other families, mothers, elders and people in need of care never feel the way I felt in May 2023.

Last night I took my son to Cortelluci hospital ER department and had the worst experience. My son had a cheek swelling. Dr. Stephen Alexander saw as at Minor Treatment department. I told him that dog in park licked his face just to make sure its not connected to that. His answer was : yes mama he is going to die of rabbies. I was speechless. He had on his cheek like insect bite which the same doctor ignored and said its dental and that he might even need a rooth canal without xray anything. I had to ask him to do ultrasound and blood work and he was very unhappy and said: now it will take even longer. Ultrasound showed limph nodes swollen. The other doctor that took over shift was nothing better. He didnt even look at the bite on his cheek he just said take to dentist. Dr. Stephen also gave wrong dose of antibiotic to my son that pharmacy refused to give. This morning it was confirmed from dentist that he has no dental problems and its just bug bite.
Emergency room dr.
My husband came into the Emerg with severe abdominal pain. The doctor who attended him barely touched him and was very quick. He ordered testing which was good. When it came time to discuss the results he was very brief again and walked away before we could even say or ask anything. He did not discuss medications to take or at home care (which according to the online summary notes of our visit he wrote that he discussed this with us).
I also then noticed at looking at the notes - my husband was supposed to be given morphine and saline IV and was not given anything while we were there!
Very disappointed after coming to this hospital from Bradford because we heard it was good…
Desired outcome: Doctor needs to spend a little more time with the patient to explain things and ask if there are any questions.

I just want to put my best review for this doctor, I have the best experience at the emergency room with her. After staying all night until 4:00 am and the doctor who was on call didn’t do anything for my mom, sending my mom home with pain killer and telling me go to your urologist. Get the referral to change the nephrology tube. After her tube was Dane wrong from the Intervention Urologist one week before. Doc. Tung is one of the best doctors at the emergency. She was very quick, very knowledgeable and helpful. She did the best for my mom and save her from taking hydro morphine. We are very grateful and pleased to put the best review for her. Mackenzie Health is very lucky to have a Doctor on board like her, specially at the emergency.

I came to emergency because I am severely sick because of the viral flu infection.
Doctor asked me to seat in the treatment room and the nurces just keep roaming coolly, without giving help to the some patients.
There are 2 nurces only.
They are not giving treatment to the patients according to the timing.
Just they help as they like.
Desired outcome: Put more nurces to work in the emergency.

Unethical and Unprofessional Behaviour
In August 2021, I witnessed a nurse working here who was harassing a young woman online to the point where she was receiving threats and unwarranted attention from dialysis nurse Thomas Bai. This nurse rallied countless strangers to help harass this girl to the point where she had to disappear from these social media platforms. The harassment and comments were racist, misogynistic, and on multiple public, social media forums for thousands of accounts to see. Thomas engaged with all of these online posts while he was supposed to be working on the job at Mackenzie Health. I followed up with this young woman who had reported it to the HR and patient health at Mackenzie Health who did absolutely nothing and didn't even bother speaking to the nurse, or apologizing for his behaviour. Shouldn't you be holding your employees to a professional standard? Why are your employees engaging in online harassment behaviour during work hours - or at all for that matter, to the point where a young woman is so badly harassed they need to file a police report?
I’m complaining about doctor visit
I went to Mackenzie Health Emergency on August 31st with kidney pain. I checked in and I was called to go to the examining room. Dr. Paul Perlon came to the room, called my name and only asked one question! Does your pain become worst when you move, and I replied yes. He did not listen to what I said about the kidney infection that I've been diagnose with before he just sent me to give urine sample. No examining No nothing! He did not even touch or check my back! After 20 min he called my name and said the sample is clear and when I said I know this pain, my kidney hurts and the pain is unbearable, he replied muscle pain could sometimes become unbearable! He only prescribe a pain killer and sent me home. From that day my condition become worst and today I was diagnose with kidney infection. I really want this to be investigated.
Mammogram clinic & Operator
I always heard what a subpar hospital Mackenzie Health/York Central was but it's my local hospital so supporting my hospital is/was important but now I'm scared of the incompetence that I have in countered I was called by the mammogram clinic to make an appointment my dr sent over request the person who called from clinic said they couldn't find records of previous apts and then same person called to tell of booked apt they didn't leave a date or time for apt then left a number to a COVID clinic not really inspiring much confidence if they can't book apts can they do tests? Really disappointed Markham Stouville so much better they use trained people to book apts - maybe u could try that seems to work! Then the operator that doesn't even know that you have a mammogram clinic maybe once the clinic people get trained they could show him where the clinic is. People use hospitals at they're worst when they need serious help from trained professionals. Your hospital seems to be a gong show which is quite sad.

I don't remember hos name but i know he was south asian and could sprak my language. He had his mask on and didn't introduce himself when he walked into the room. This event took place on July 24 Sunday at 11pm in the Richmondhill branch.
The physician didn't care to listen nor acknowledge what i had told him about the situation. He ignored my concerns after i repeatedly told him to review the past times my mother had came to the ward with exact same symptoms, since the previous doctors were able to help her with the excruciating pain. Instead, the physician had prescribed her the opposite drug which caused her more pain. He was told repeatedly by me that she needs to vomit which will allow the body to run it's natural course yet the doctor ignored and said he doesn't have anything that would allow a patient to vomit so how come other doctors were able to prescribe her something that would get her to vomit and clear the constipation. The doctor didn't care if the patient would live or die by the tone he was using with me. Clearly, my tax money is being wasted on doctors who can't practice medicine the way it should be.
I would like to have this physician disciplined for his actions. Not only he failed to listen to the concern of a patient who was in an excruciating pain rather he made the matter worse and didn't care to even check up on her. Whereas the nurses on the clock were talking and smirking while she was dying from pain.

my wife working in mackenzie hospital and urge her coworker by word to have a group play for lotto. after several weeks of playing and i was ask by my wife to place the bet. on 25 of June 2021. i placed the bet but the cards that my wife gave me has an extra bet which is not included in the budget. which is 80$ fir 16 people including my wife. thinking if i cancel i will be the winning number decided to add the extra 5$. told my wife but she only send the ticket where the total is 85$ but did not tell that i put an additional money. in morning found out we won and she call everybody on the 27 to have their sugn and give copy of their ID. wy wife open up on that day about the extra 5$ but no one pay attention. i believed on the 29 my wife got a answer from one of the group name Maria that they will just give back the money i add meaning i dint get a cut. but strange is. The group doesn't talk to me at all until now im writing this. where what happen is a silent guessing that realy stressed me and my wife and just like that they managed to convinved my wife to let them hold the ticket. and yet nobody talks. my complaints is behavior of such staff controlling on people how will they act. how they make us destroy each other and yet we are the one being robbed that they got now the ticket and insist that eigther me or my wife will a cut ti that 5$ that i put. toxic workplace with a manipulative coworker let my family ruin and take money from us. Iam writing this for behavior and scheme they do, to take things they want and how they control people that sorrounds them. also awareness to other. and calling this Russian girll that is excluded from the group to come out and talk. i believed you still have cut from the winnings but the group doesn't want to give her fair share. how they act to make my wife destroy each other still amazed me. this not only money uts about family and ethics which im trying to let people know how those people do their job.

Unethical behaviour
April 14th, an appointment with Dr. Sherazi. Arrived on time. Loudness at the front was noticeable as questions were being asked and instructions being given. A mouthful of instructions were given to me in one breath that I had to have it repeated. Got to where I was sent and was not greeted with a hello or good day but told to sit to have BP & T taken. At the front, when I entered my info, the name Dr Chen showed up. I was told that is the doctor I would be seeing, it was ok. But, it was Dr. Manoharan that I consulted with, who in turn took the information to Dr Chen who afterwards came and said hello. I agreed to do an x-ray since I was already there. I waited in the waiting area for over 25mins with an elderly gentleman who told me he's been waiting for over an hour. I decided to go find someone. They acted as if I was an irritant. The x-ray technician asked me what do I want him to do, because after all this time he did not have my requisition. I was cold, hungry and needed to use a bathroom. When it was all said and done parking was 15.00.
Desired outcome: Simple. Plain courtesy. Plain manners. Respect for others. Go to Southlake or Markham S and see the difference. It doesn't have to be the way it is. NO ONE speaks well of your hospital, not even the employees!! It is shameful!
Day surgery
I had a revision at surgery on my left knee today. Everything was fine until I got into my fathers car to go home. I realized my prescription had vanished. Instead of assisting me to find it, and assisting my care giver, I was brushed off like a drug addict. The department was totally fine letting me leave the hospital with no prescription for antibiotics or even pain management after I had just had my knee bones drilled through. This is totally unacceptable. I have never felt like less of a person in my life, being brushed off and told "you had the prescription" I even brought them the stack of papers I was given to prove the document was not in my possession.

I like to comment about the way the Ambulance and at the hospital Emergency was handled . This was an after Surgery complication and normal emergency procedure to any Medical staff. I was taken to Mackenzie Health for better handling the situation after Surgery at the same Hospital. The Emergency team left me in Pain and Suffering pushing me back to a normal in line waiting list. IT DID NOT MATTER TO ANYONE HOW BAD I WAS SCREAMING AND SUFFERING -ALMOST TREATING ME LIKE A KID THAT COULD NOT TAKE PAIN. The nurse on duty did not know how to place and intervene and other crucial tasks to the base of Nursing level. I was left with a severe Urine Block from 12:30 AM til about 6:00 AM. Totally disappointed Your Emergency team has made my recovery Condition a lot worst . Your nurse could not perform an Intervene and could not perform basic tasks essential to be a nurse. Very disappointed at the Ambulance Paramedic ... little kids unaware of what the emergency was. IT DID NOT MATTER HOW THE PROBLEM WAS EXPLAINED, THEY DID NOT UNDERSTAND OR PREFERRED TO NOT UNDERSTAND OR ACT ACCORDING TO THE EMERGENCY.
