Marriott Vacation Club (MVC) is frauding its members by selling the timeshare to the public rather than letting members use it with points. For example, the Marriott Vacation Club at Los Suenos has an opening for Jan 25 to 27, 2023 (9 more days) for a suite, one bedroom, and two bedrooms for $306, $369, and $449 (plus tax), respectively. I called today and could not get anything available for this year and next year. We have about 4000 points per year and pay about $3500 maintenance fee a year. So, we can rent 2 bedrooms for seven nights ($500 x 7 = $3500) from Expedia. So, paying for the same amount that we pay for yearly maintenance, we can get in while we cannot get in through our MVC membership with our points. The only problem is that we paid around $45,000 (now is worth about $60,000) to get in initially about 5 years ago. So, we got robbed... Here is another thing they do - they give the crappy rooms in the basement with cockroaches to members (if you get lucky and get in, of course) and give the oceanfront on high floors to the ones who paid cash. It is almost impossible to make a reservation for any of the MVC properties. How can Marriott do that and get away?
Claimed loss: $60,000 upfront plus three years of maintenance ($3300 x 3 = 9900). Total $69,900. Hours and hours of our time to try to reason with them to make a reservation.
Desired outcome: Pay us $69,900 and buy back the points.
