Match.com renewed my membership without any notice of the pending expiration date of my original subscription. They will not refund, nor pro-rate any portion of a six-month renewal that I neither consented to nor desired. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Affairs and will also take this to any other consumer action agency that I can find. Please warn your friends to avoid Match.com's deceptive practices. They say word of mouth is the best form of advertisement. Pass it on - DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH MATCH.COM!

I am experiencing the same problem here in Massachusetts - they simply deducted the membership fee from my account.

Worse, I had tried to cancel my membership a few days before the expiration deadline and was unable to (a computer glitch?).

They deducted 100.00 from my account on September 1. I emailed them on September 2 asking them to please cancel my membership and refund my money. They sent a creepy corporate letter saying the automatic renewal was a favor to me, no refunds.

I might add, after a very short time, I had removed my profile anyway. I did not have much luck with the site.

Please do update as you pursue your complaint.

I agree, until this point I would have said, sure give match a shot. No longer. People should steer clear until they clean up their marketing tactics.

Having reviewed my paper statement today, I was surprised to see a billing transaction of $77.94 charged against my credit card for Match.Com services! I personally went on-line and cancelled this service after my initial 6-month contract ended, which began on February 11, 2006!

To my horror, I was advised that I could not receive any refund for the prior years (of non-usage nor personal subscription), other than the most recent billing, which I had to argue to receive the refund!

How is it, that a supposed "reputable" service can under-handedly continue to charge my credit card account for "services" which were unwanted & unsolicited. The Customer Service agent I spoke with today (Jessica), was able to confirm that there had been no personal activity initiated by me, since my "subscription" ended in August, 2006!

I have chosen to pay bills electronically & not depend on paper statements which unknowingly may have reflected these unsolicited charges, unbeknown to me! This practice is not acceptable and it will not go unreported to those agencies which service the goodwill of the public!

I am requesting that ALL charges since my original subscription ended be refunded to me without hesitation. I find that good conscious will not allow me to accept anything less! I appreciate the opportunity to express my frustration & extreme disappointment with the business practice of Match.Com!

I had the same problem in 2009. Match kept billing me and i consistently told them that I did not want their service. The problem was solved but it took TOO long to solve it.

I joined Match.com and subscribed for 1 month. If Match.com was a reputable company, they would do the honorable thing and cancel a person's subscription after the one month period ends. This is not the case. Match.com does not cancel your subscription but continues to bill you month after month until you manually go into your account and cancel it yourself.
After being billed for a second month, I called up customer service and explained to them that I only signed up for 1 month and did not wish to be billed for another month. I continued to ask that my money from the second month be credited to my bank account. They told me that they have no way of keeping track of how long a person has been active for and it was in the terms of my contract before signing up. Therefore, they cannot refund my money for the second month.
Being the largest dating site in world, one would think Match.com has enough money to hire a computer programmer to write up some code that keeps track of this and sends out an email after 30 days (or however long a person signs up for) that contains a link that directs you to opting to cancel your subscription. It sounds to me like the technology is readily available, but it would be more profitable to the company if they keep this message hidden in the terms of the contract.
I am also looking in the Pros and Cons underneath the "Share Your Opinion" section. The 3rd con from the bottom reads "Cost to Much." It should be spelled "too." The sixth con reads "May Be A Bit Overhelming." Maybe if you payed a bit more attention to the details of your website, people would want to remain active members so you wouldn't have to come up with ways to scam them out of their money. It is overWhelming to me how the management of Match.com operate. It would be a great idea for them to take a class in ethics.
Match.com is run by a group of greedy and immoral people and highly recommend avoiding this website at all costs.

I canceled my subscription using their online cancellation service, 3 weeks prior to my renewal date. After the renewal date they billed me for another 6-month subscription. I called them and told them what happened, and they promptly canceled my subscription and issued a refund.

Match is a very deceiving enterprise using unauthorized enrollment to steal your money. I would love to start a lawsuit against this corp. If you feel the same lets generate this!

Several years ago I joined Match.com and they charged my credit card without my permission for renewal and I had to fight for a refund. They continued to post my information, after it had expired. I was very specific when I signed up again recently, this time they charged me for 6 months when I only signed up for three months. I called Match.com and they refused to address the issue, I asked for a manager, but was put on hold for an indefinite amount of time. So, I filed a billing complainet with my credit card company. I called Match. com a week later to speak to a manager (after the initial person that I spoke with was incredibly rude) and the manager at the corporate HQ agreed to credit my account and gave me several free months . Sounds great, except in reality...they canceled my account early, in less than three months and erased my entire account history. They made NO attempt to contact me to discuss the issue. When I called back several weeks later they were indignant that I had called my bank - which is typical credit card practice and did not appear to understand that it is against the law to charge whatever they wanted to my credit card without my permission! I quess they think that they have such a volume business and a high turnover that most people will not notice or do not care about an extra $30, $60. or $100...but it is their arrogance and the principle that a company does not have free access to a persons credit card and the ability to manipulate their charges and agreements and then can just bully you and refuse to comply with the law.

The auto renewal feature is a good feature and I have not problem with that. My issues is that they do not warn you about charging your account. I got no notice except from my bank informing me of the overdraft caused by this charge. That is a problem. I get so many junk emails from this company on a daily basis but they can't send me one that says I am getting charged tomorrow for a renewal. Poor customer service for sure. I will never use Match.com again. There are too many free sites to use now which is why I quit using Match.com in the first place.

Match.com charged my credit card for $215.8 few days ago without my prior authorization! I became a member last year and did not have any activity and before became a member when I talked to customer service they said they do not charge my credit card without prior notice of expiration of my membership. I never received any notice from them and my credit card was charged for one year membership! I encourage anyone who is not happy and taking an legal action include me in the action. We should all sue this thieves to stop steeling peoples hard working money this illegal way. My email is Azardorm@yahoo.com if you like to contact me.

I also have the same complaint against them. No way to turn off auto-bill, even though they "show you how" it does not work. No notice of pending billing or your subscription ending. I had my account "hidden" and cancled it completely, but no refund for something I will never use. They are stealing and should be stopped. When you call for a refund when you notice the charge, they do not give it to you. Company is VERY arrogant and basically says tough luck, we have your money. I strongly feel this is begging for a class-action lawsuit. Does anyone know any class-action attorneys? I'm in and will testify and happily speak to the press.

PLEASE SCROLL TOWARDS THE BOTTOM IF YOU WANT THE RESULTS and SUGGESTED STEPS TO TAKE THAT WORKED FOR ME

I also am in Massachusetts and i had the same issue. I signed up for six months. when the six months was up i was auto-renewed for another six months. After viewing my credit card statement and seeing a charge for renewal I called to cancel my membership and asked for a refund. I was told (like most with the same complaint) that there was a strict no-refund policy. I then proceeded to cancel my membership live while on the phone. They agreed to cancel my subscription back in Sept 2015. I just reviewed my May statement for this year and low and behold there was another charge for Match.com for 6 more months. I called back and was explaining my situation and the agent was very aggressive and tried to blow me off:

she could not find me by user name, she could not find my email address (however after the call i was able to login with that email), she could not find my full name, all the while insisting i did not exist (no account active)...don't give up. I finally gave her my credit card number and she found my account. When i explained that i had cancelled in Sept 2015, she said they have no record of that. I then proceeded to cancel (once again) and she had the same line...strict no refund policy. We went back and forth and i got nowhere.

Here is what I did:
I called my credit card (CC) and disputed the charge
they opened an investigation after a few questions.
I had a really nice CC customer service agent that suggested that she get on a call with me and Match to try and resolve this. She went on to explain that most vendors will resolve disputes if the bank is on the line.
We called and explained that the CC company was on the call and that it was being recorded
Explained the situation and got all of the same answers (no refunds, blah, blah, blah)
After "talking to their manager" the rep came back on the line and stated that they will refund my money
problem solved, but while on hold the CC agent mentioned that when you cancel these types of subscription services always ask for the following and keep it on file so you can retrieve it in the future:

Agents name
Agents extension and/or Employee ID
confirmation email for the cancellation
record the date and time the cancellation took place

Hope this helps, because the intimidation and condescending tactics I was exposed on my call with a Match representatives, are completely deplorable and it angers me to know that most people give up and Match takes advantage of them. NEVER GIVE UP, THERE ARE ALWAYS OPTIONS!

This same thing is happening to me. They refuse to refund a billing on my Credit Card from 20 days ago. The agent at Match was very rude. They couldn't find me in their system, using many ways to look me up. That's because I canceled and removed my profile on line. They told me automatic billing was the best way to stay active on match. I canceled for a reason. Hello. I threatened to dispute the charges. The agent told me, if I dispute the charges my subscription would be canceled my profile removed and I would not be allowed to ever use match again. Wow my dream come true.

I am disputing the charge and the charge from 6 months ago that I didn't catch 239.00 in total. I hope it resolves the issue.

I too would be willing to join a class action law suit. The Management at Match.com are Crooks.

Never Give Up!

They are charging me $65 even after I cancelled the membership. Paid with Paypal and they will not help. If there is a lawsuit against these crooks, in NC, I would be so happy to join it.

Seems a repeating theme. I turned off my auto renew a month before my subscription was to end. To my shock I found my credit card charged regardless. I cancelled my unauthorized new subscription and sent a email with a demand to refund my credit card. Based on what I read here they will do nothing. Lets shut these crooks down.
