Tedious setup + wish lower latency vel sense
A whole page of pads C4 is awesome, I guess. If the second pad would be the next note that would be better. As the app warns, the velocity sensitivity function introduces latency — too much to use on my new iPad Pro. As a fixed velocity input response is instant, of course. There's gotta be some way to sample the pressure sense fewer times for your values.
Great, Uncomplicated midi app
This app is exactly what I needed. I play guitar in live settings with various groups. I needed a simple midi app, such as this, to control some midi pedals I have. This app allows me to instantly access/recall presets or make whatever Commands right on the spot. I love that each Page can be customized to each song I do.
Some updates I would love to see is
-to have the option to categorize the “Pages" (like to group them into different folders)
-to be able to order the “Pages", such as in a Set List order, so the next page can easily and quickly be accessed.
-to be able to duplicate “Pages" for a quicker setup.
Thank you for this great app!
Does exactly what I needed
Worked for my needs. I used it to Control a Yamaha Ql5 and a Yamaha QL1 to turn on and off 55 microphones in a conference setting. Worked flawlessly. I only wish you could copy and paste a page to edit a new layout without having to start from scratch each time.
Took a minute but working great
I had the same problem the previous user did with the app closing this as soon as I touched a pad that was programmed for program change. On a whim I tried adding an action of a midi note on a different midi channel and for some reason that keeps the app from closing. If it didn't have that bug/workaround need I would've given it five stars rating because it works incredibly well and is very fast. I am using it with a puc+ wireless Bluetooth midi transmitter made by Zivix and it works wonderfully. If you go with a puc+ make sure you download the free puc+ app and use that app to configure it as a midi input or output. Cheers!
Thank you!
Replaced an expensive multi button hardware controller for AUM patch changes as it was useless in low light as couldn't see buttons unlit until they're pressed. Set this up in seconds and added Bluetooth capability thru midimtr. Done! Suggestions: option to swipe to go to other pad pages - good for live performance. Add a tip jar in settings ; )
I've tried various apps
The only app with no latency. I've used even android based software platforms that promise a solid connection yet they always are slow. This really takes the cake. Only suggestion would be to be able to save your pages to either share with other users online or export so that another iPad or iOS device could open it. Hardest thing is just assigning each pad a midi note value, once that is done in sequential order, you're good to go.
Other option is maybe have presets available for users on the next update such as pages that are pre assigned. One example I have in my setup is 16 Pads on one page ranging from C1-F2 and Gb2-A3 on the second page. On a midi keyboard, one note starts where the other left off. It does take a while to make your own presets but I wish that these would be able to export easily. Also, maybe like on the novation launchpad have the buttons flash or react to the sample playing.
Could be better
I use each pad to send multiple commands to a guitar synth and to a keyboard. I want to copy and paste from one pad to the next and just change one parameter. No answer from the developers. Is it being supported? Last release from a year ago. Could be fantastic if it could send system messages too.
Works…ok
It works for some basic pads, but the inability to copy and past and no presets/profiles is a bummer. And the biggest reason for the 3 stars…MIDI CC range in app is 1-128, but literally every MIDI device is 0-127, meaning you have to remember to program with an offset. Such an obvious oversight. Could be great with a very simple update.
Great little app
i've been using this app on gigs for a couple of years now. It works very well. There are a couple of features that I would like to see added.
- The ability to copy and paste, buttons, or tap, and slide them to a new position
- The ability to swipe between pages instead of having to go to the button at the top, and then select a page
- The ability to change the order of pages
Simple and it Works
Imjust needed an easy to use trigger pad for creating MIDI drum tracks. Mini Pad2 is perfect for my needs. I use it to trigger Addictive Drums2 and create drum tracks in Digital Performer. I did have to remap or Learn a few of the Midi pitches, but once assiged to pads, they work flawlessly.
Simple, does exactly what I want
I use this app to remotely control Live Professor 2 over a wifi network so I can change keys on my vocal tuning software with a simple press of a button. It does it really simply, and connecting the midi from my iPad to my Macbook is really easy too.
works well but difficult to set notes
simple but very useful drum pad emulator. works much more reliably when ipad/iphone is cable-connected to computer. my one complaint is that it's hard to assign pitches to pads because the pitch slider is so small. could easily be solved by adding + and - buttons at the ends of the slider to move by small increments. am noticing it hasn't been updated for years so maybe it's no longer being developed.
Just What I Wanted
I had been searching around for an app just like this-- a MIDI pad I could edit on the iPad itself. I was using TouchOSC before but didn't like how you had to edit your layouts on the computer. And Apple's own Logic Remote was causing HUGE latency (often more than 5 seconds) when I used it with Mainstage, a program I use almost every day.
I play keyboard for local theater and use MidiPad mostly to trigger program changes and some SFX/percussion (sending the MIDI information to my Mac). It works perfect for this.
Strangely, Codelle doesn't tell you how to connect the app to your setup. I was hoping their website would at least provide some links, but as of now, it does not. So if you're like me and want this app to interface with software on your Mac, open the program "Audio MIDI Setup" then under Help, search for and open the Help Topic "Share MIDI information over a network."
The app takes a little bit to customize the layout and pads as you'd like. The workflow here could be improved if Codelle updates the app to have things like click&drag options for adjusting the layout of the pads, a copy&paste or duplicate function, and the ability to set parameters via something besides a little touch bar.
Anyways, setting it up isn't so bad and once it's there it's very slick and reliable. Recommended.
mostly a real nice app
Mostly real nice app. Midi note number editor should be bigger. A
"copy page" function would nice. I start with blank buttons that fit my hands and map in functions... You could get funky and map the tilt sensor to midi cc. Thanks for putting it up.
MidiPad 2 Complaints 6
Has positives but has serious cons
The pad does a lot of things and meet all the needs but comes with lot of cons.
1. Once you change the page rows and columns, all your saved settings are lost. Gone for good and have to completely redo. There is no way to restore, undo or set default settings.
2. The app does not allow to change PAGE ORIENTATION. What's the point? Nobody uses the app in portrait mode!
3. Should provide more colors for changing synth hardware programs.
Look Elsewhere
Complete waste of time and money. Sounds so promising but zero documentation, unrecognized by Mac, and developer does not respond to any messages through their website or Facebook pages (even being patient and waiting a couple weeks!). Look elsewhere and let my wasted money help you avoid the trouble. Hope they're not just trying to make a buck off real musicians, but if they're genuine, they need to prove it with help docs and support.
Does not work
I really wanted this app to work. It does not put out any midi information. I use bias fix and I have it running in the background my midi foot pedal works. I set the midi control change for channel 1 and midi cc 20. It did not send the control change to bias. I tried everything I could think of with no results.

However ComplaintsBoard has detected that:
- While MidiPad 2 has a high level of trust, our investigation has revealed that the company's complaint resolution process is inadequate and ineffective. - MidiPad 2 protects their ownership data, a common and legal practice. However, from our perspective, this lack of transparency can impede trust and accountability, which are essential for establishing a credible and respected business entity.
Weak Connectivity
This doesn't connect to other apps or devices and is missing basic connection functionality within the app... also can connect through a host since there's no audio unit connectivity. This app could be one of the best midi control apps if had decent connectivity options.
No Support
What kind of product doesn't have a Support Page or Technical Support info page/site? I couldn't connect my iPhone (iOS 8.3) & MacBook Pro (OS X 10.10) together. How to connect together? It's supposedly easy to setup using AudioMidi Setup, but it's not. The “Connect" button in unclickable although my phone was already discovered. What's going on
Use a Hammer for Touch Sensitivity
Wow, that was a waste. The touch sensitivity is useless. There are no adjustments. Must be just too hard to code for the kind of sensitivity you can get in GarageBand's drum kit. I'll try to get a refund. PLEASE - Add top, bottom, left, right, or center velocity option!
