Used it for 2 years. Not good any more
Update: I've been unable to email me reports since they updated the app to charge a family fee. This is an intuitive app to register expenses, budgeting, etc. Until end if the year comes and you cannot access your files. Support was responsive, yet ineffective. Time to look for another app.
Update: Just received an email inviting me to pay a "family fee" for syncing. What?
1+ years ago I gave this app 5 stars and this review: As self-employed I don't have a steady income, and I have income coming from various sources. This app allowed me to customize income/expenses anyway I wanted. Great service, they replied within 24hs every time I contacted support.
Update: Used Money Pro for months and I'm still satisfied.
Update: I was able to set up my traveling budget with three different currencies! This means that whether I buy something in pounds, euros or Kronas, I can write it down on the original price and the app will automatically convert my expense into dollars (or to any other default currency). What a pleasure will be to travel using Money Pro.
Disappointed
After years of using this app at the basic level i experience very few problems. Few weeks ago I updated to Gold level and now the data is completely worthless. There are many duplicate transactions actions, all the work of setting up recurring transactions, budgets, automatic payments are lost. When you receive downloads from banks and credit cards the transactions are duplicated the categories are incorrect. You can download your checking data and then 20 minutes later download again and the data doesn’t match. I lost 11 months of data even though I constantly backup.
I spent hours trying to correct the problem only to come to the conclusion it not reliable.
The balances are correct but the transactions are not. If I just wanted balances I would use Intuits mint.
As an Accountant and Auditor that used this app for years I’m very dissatisfied with the Gold update.
I even tried starting over from December 1st and as of December 2nd the few transactions are incorrect
Very Disappointed
I now have to go back and create 11 months of transactions in order to prepare for income tax returns
Very Impressed
MoneyPro has come a long way! Initially updates were far and few between and now they update regularly as they update features and correct any glitches found.
By far the best budgeting app I have come across! I used another app for 2 years and that company just stopped updating the app which still had a lot of flaws so I spent 6 months trying to find another app before finding MoneyPro. The best features that I enjoy are the planning expenses and incomes out in advance through the calendar so I can visually see what's coming up, the desperation from checking, credit cards, loans, exc in the accounts page, and most recently the cloud sync so my wife and I can use the same budgets to keep everything balanced near real time.
It may take a couple weeks to figure out all the features but they are all features to give you peace of mind on your budget.
Lastly, MoneyPro has a forum board that you can post on ideas for upgrades and users get to vote on ideas, once votes start trending for an idea, MoneyPro reviews the ideas and starts incorporating it into a future update. WE get to decide how it progresses.
Almost perfect
EDIT: 17Feb2016 I have to drop two stars because the main reason I purchased money pro, for the Apple Watch portion, doesn't always work correctly. I will input my expense and it won't sync through to my phone. Sometimes my watch app will show a different balance than my phone and other times the expense will just completely disappear. The phone app itself is really a great app, but I really wanted an Apple Watch app that could sync easily with an app on the phone. I also wish said watch app had a small complication so I could keep my large complication spot open for other items.
I actually only downloaded this app because the Apple Watch companion app looked like the nicest budget tracking app so far for the the watch. After importing all of my data from the other app I had been using for three and s half years and setting up all of my categories, I now wish I would have switched over to this app last year when they released this. It's so much more detailed, easier to use and nicer on the eyes than the other app I was previously using.
The watch app is really what is nice. I love being able to track my debit transactions without having to pull out my phone constantly at the gas pump, a convenience store, etc.
The 5th star would be there if I could back my data up to Dropbox. That is the only thing it's missing and I hope that option will be available sometime soon.
Lifesaver.literally
I can't emphasize how much I love his all and it's usefulness. I'm a single mom and need to keep a budget and careful accounting of my expenses. This helps greatly. I love the daturas including the ability to change the colors, reports you can run, it even now totals your expenses and income per day. Every category is customizable and you can even create new categories and sub categories. When you are close to budget the circle around your category icon darkens, when you are half way there, the circle is half dark, illuminating only when you are in budget--this is my favorite. At a glance I can see how I am doing. Logging all my expenses also helps me to be mindful about my spending. The app is usable on my iPad and cell phone--a must if I am on the syncs up so anything I enter in any device updates on the other over wifi. You can also plan outgoing expenses like a recurring bill by having it automatically deduct from your balance instead of logging it, like Apple Music or Hulu, every month it comes out so I don't have to input it myself. Saves me time! Another feature is being able to have multiple accounts - I have 3 so this is helpful. The savings account is an "asset" and it is difficult to change the balance, my only suggestion would be for money to be transferable from asset accounts instead of it having to be logged as an "asset sale".
In summary, the app is amazing and wonderfully designed. It is completely worth it!
PERFECT FOR BUDGETING NEEDS!
This app is awesome! I've owned the Money app system for nearly 3 years now, and this app has come a long way since the original Money application. I recommend this application to everyone, especially if you are interested in knocking out debt and building a nest egg savings. It took me about 3-6 months to learn exactly how much my wife and I need to budget for each item, including misc items. I have no problem syncing my iPhone 6 and MacBook Pro with this app.
Things I'd like to see in the future: add a line in the budgeting section that shows the user exactly how much money is left for the budgeted category instead of just how much money was spent/budgeted; add sync option with Apple calendar that displays an upcoming bill or recurring bill with an alert system (e.g. 3,10,30 days til "cable bill" is due); add a stock option with sync - the owner inputs into the app how many shares of a particular stock owned in a company, the app auto syncs daily with stock updates which correlates to users stock ownership showing a rise or drop in price; lastly, instead of a manual edit for liability payments such as a car payment - make it so the user can input the liability into the app which shows interest rate, monthly payments, and how much money is actually put towards principal after interest is collected.
Nonetheless, the app does a wonderful job at meeting all basic needs to budgeting. Money well spent. Get your Money app today and learn where you're money slips away to every month.
Only one complaint: sometimes freezes when adding picture receipt
I decided to try this app again after my old finance app (Pocket Money) was no longer supported and started crashing constantly. I had tried it a while back but it didn't have a key feature I need: the ability to not only categorize a transaction, but also to enter the payee name.
I love the look of this app and it has the functionality I want/need. My earlier beef with naming has been somewhat addressed: I can enter the payee name in the Notes field and it shows up in the transaction description. Not perfect, but it's much better than before. I like being able to categorize my spending and tracking different categories for monitoring. I don't use the bill section of the app because I track my bills on my calendar app with reminders and I use auto pay whenever possible. My biggest complaint with the current version is sometimes the app will crash after I've entered a few transactions and then I try to take a picture of a receipt. The app will always crash right after I take the picture. Again, it only happens after I've entered a few transactions, not on every one. I'm usually able to open the app again and then I can enter a few more transactions before it happens again. I don't know if this is a syncing issue or a data limit, but it's my only complaint and I can work around it, so that's why I gave it four stars. I would give five stars if the crashing issue was fixed. Touch ID is a great feature as well. I would recommend this app to people who want to keep a detailed record of their accounts and like to monitor spending in different categories.
Don't Buy til you read this!
Stop moving my review to the old version. This review is for the most updated Money Pro! I expected more from Money. The biggest problem is their heading "Payment Account." I have many accounts with bi-weekly recurring transactions. I do not want to enter these every two weeks. But unless your account is under the payment account heading, you cannot enter recurring transactions. If you have a loan with a standard monthly payment. And you cannot enter a monthly payment. Only if you move it to the "payment account" heading can you enter a recurring transaction or even a monthly payment! Same with your retirement account. If you put it under "assets"- which it is, you cannot enter standard recurring automatic deposits or a hand entered payment. If you move it up to "payment account" you can enter repeat transactions automatically. You can't clearly see the totals of your liabilities and assets because they are a sitting under "payment accounts"! This is ridiculous and is something the other apps are able to do so you can see exact balances in all your separate types of accounts. This app seems to think money is only deposited and extracted from checking and credit card accounts. Major Fail! Also the graphics are hideous and blinding. No more neat symbols and pictures. They need to fix these two issues immediately. You cannot categorize how you want unless you want to enter recurring deposits and payments by hand. And you cannot enter a payment manually unless it is under payment accounts! Just get a paper checkbook! Will someone please bring back Pocket Money which can do all of these things correctly! I'll be using something else- waste of money.
Lots of well-integrated features
It takes some time to read through the manual and get acclimated to how everything works.
I couldn't even figure out how to enter a new debit transaction after first transporting my data from Checkbook HD. Turns out I had a dysfunctional budget category subhead after the transfer that just happened to be the subcategory of my first transaction to enter. So I read the ENTIRE manual looking for my problem before I just tried a different category & succeeded
Glad I read it, though. The information is concise yet very descriptive. And now there's nothing I can't easily record, track, report and tweak with this app.
I actually know my net worth now! ...on any given day and without having to do any math!
My debt list, remaining balances & total debt numbers are all updated automatically every time a payment is made.
My budget categories can function both descriptively and prescriptively with this app—which is an absolutely brilliant feature!
Recurring payments can be left alone or micromanaged, ignored or studied with great ease & little time-investment.
Projection reports allow you to anticipate future expenses & spend wisely even during periods of high cash flow. And these require no cumbersome work to generate...just one tap of the screen.
And last but not least, this app has the ability to run multiple profiles with complete separation so that I can manage my business account for which I am accountable to my employer without reports getting muddied because of an inferior app blending that account information with information from my personal accounts.
I'm glad someone has taken time to build this app right. Thanks, iBear for Money Pro!
If in the future the liabilities list can also automatically process compounding interest, Money Pro will be the consummate money tool.
Excellent App
I bought this app ($4.99) mostly as an expense tracker. There are many features I'm not yet using. But here's what I think so far...
Pros
Has a very attractive and sleek appearance. I enjoy simply looking at it.
Can create your own expense categories and subcategories. There's also an extensive array of icons to choose from when labeling your categories, making it easier to navigate your own categories.
Has tons of currencies to choose from.
Has an incredible currency conversion feature that allows the user to set a default currency denomination in their settings but simultaneously allows the user to input an amount in a foreign currency and with a couple touches of the screen, you have the foreign currency converted into your default currency without needing to perform any calculations. This is perfect for world travelers and people dealing in multiple currencies.
Has beautiful report charts and graphs that can be segmented by category all the way down to individual expenses. This is perfect for me because I mix business and personal expenses on my credit card all the time and only I can decipher which expenses belong where the moment the expense is incurred (something Mint or other automatic expense tracking apps can't do for me). Being able to create a category for business or reimbursable expenses and segment said expenses allows me to quickly and easily view only and all of my business expenses over the course of the month in one place.
Offers the ability to create account mediums by which expenses are payed (wallet, credit card, venmo,...etc). Even better is the fact that these accounts can be set to their own currencies. So if I'm out with American friends for dinner and I paid someone in the group for my meal, I can record that as a cash expense in the local currency or, if I use venmo, in USD. There's no need to switch from local currency to USD and vice-versa, it's already done for me according to the default I set on the account.
Suggestions
It would be great to swipe left/right in the "today" menu to view yesterday's activities or tomorrow's bills rather than needing to tap the date, view the calendar month, choose a day, and then view the day's activity. It seems excessive compared to swiping left/right to navigate to the next or previous day.
This might exist or did before, but it would be wonderful if I could directly pay people in the app through another app, like venmo.
Thanks for putting together a remarkable app! I thoroughly enjoy this product and find it to be far better for my needs and desires than any other app I've seen. Keep up the great work!
UI not for iPad users
Let me begin by qualifying this review is based on using an iPad in landscape mode. Many apps developed are hybrids and targeted primarily for cell phone users and the limited space on their display. In order to capture a broader market, apps can also be used on other iOS devices as well. This app appears to be developed for the iPhone, and the layout isn't well suited for the iPad. (Even though iPad was selected in the device category while in the App Store)
I've been using Pocket Money for two years and, out of 9 other money apps I've tried, it has the best UI of any. Unfortunately, the gentleman who developed it 20 years ago has passed, and it is no longer being supported/updated. So, I'm looking for a suitable replacement.
I've tried other apps on the App Store, none have all the whistles and bells except for MoneyWiz and MoneyPro. (Of the ones I've tried)
MoneyPro lacks a user friendly interface, so it's clunky trying to enter records. I haven't invested the time to setup all my expense accounts and budgets, don't want to spend hours on an app that doesn't have a lot of promise. Importing OFX/QFX files corrupted the data, so that is unreliable. Having over 2 years worth of data to migrate, importing accuracy is critical. I don't have the time to comb thru thousands of records to find errors! That's why we use apps to manage money in the first place ;-)
If they improve the input UI and import tools, I'll up my rating. For example: Payee should be a priority field. MP makes it obscure. Not a smart field either, you end up typing in each time(or selecting from a long list of payees) Pocket Money remembers the payees for each category and auto fills the info. Most of us shop the same stores, and having an app auto fill is a great time saver, but not included in MP. MP has a client list instead of payee, and you first have to add to the list before you can use it, and you will have to search the list each time to find your payee, even if you use that vendor daily. Yikes! A lot of extra overhead for the end user.
Anyone who has taken college level accounting should know how to design a decent app! Just wonder why these developers aren't consulting with accounting pros. Database structure/tools are very advanced today, so this should be easy to incorporate. (Making an iPad version would solve some of my complaints)
There's not any real good apps out there for managing your finances/budget all in one bundle.
I'm not going to go broke by spending $6, but I'm disappointed after using this app for several hours and seeing the result. Too bad there's not a "try before you buy" option.
I've sent the developers my opinion, but didn't get a response.

2.7.16 - Newest update CRASHING
2.7.16 - Newest update CRASHING. Unable to access years worth of data. This often times is an indication of a poorly tested, compiled code, and or developed version. Development group should make a more thorough attempt to eliminate these types of product failures in advance. I currently, my families entire finances are unavailable. Support page doesn’t really offer a contact capability, which is truly a sad testament to the value of support too many of these app developers. The focus is on enlarging the subscription base and not in strong functional capability and providing top-notch customer service.

Going back to original money app! DO NOT UPGRADE TO THIS APP!After update still no good ! Same glitches are still happening. Very disappointed that I upgraded to pro. 12/01

Supports Foreign Banks??!
Just wasted $5 on this app to simply manage finances. Not looking for deep financial support. I am not looking for stocks, bit-coin, just checking & bill management. It may sync to 4 or 5 US banks at the most. The rest are non-USA banks it looked like. The graphs, and what it shows, it’s apparent it can do what I need it to, but without the ability to sync first with my bank (Chase Bank), I am not wasting days entering all the data I want to manage after spending $5. I will play around a little more to see if I can get things started, but I am not changing the one star rating unless I see potential for basic finance budgeting with assistance from the app that is $5 bucks!

Worthless!
I bought the app, just to use as a budget reference I didn’t need any of the extra features of setting up to link any accounts. Anyway, I searched everywhere on how to set up. It was pretty simple at first but when it came to adding the funds to my budget envelopes it was impossible. It showed my income but it didn’t give me the ability to transfer any amounts to add to my budget. I even looked through their help section, YouTube, the website, even emailed support (which I never heard back from). I was using Goodbudget which is pretty user friendly. I thought why not try something different which I heard good things about. But, just setting up my account was a headache. I WANT MY MONEY BACK.

Misleading! PLEASE READ BEFORE DOWNLOADING
Who knows if this app does what it’s supposed to do because by the 3rd time the app asked for more money to upgrade, I deleted it. First, they immediately ask for money to upgrade for it even to be worth anything. So ok, I’m like cool, it’s cheap $4. Now I’m in the app and I forget what I needed to do, but it was yet again something that you would assume came with the app, but nope. Gotta pay $12. Then, ok, let’s set a goal. Nope, gotta pay $50 for that. After that, who the heck knows. You’re getting charged an annual subscription for every freaking click. Yeah, no thanks. Seriously, just be upfront and have ONE upgrade, what a scam. I would have never paid the initial fee if I knew they were going to bend me over at every click. So annoyed.

Lack of Maintenance
I bought this app on Oct 25, 2018 along with the desktop app and it work well and paired well with the laptop app for about a year. After updating on a particular occasion all the accounts that I have no longer sync perfectly like they us to. The balance on the accounts no longer match up between the phone and the desktop. I use this app everyday for managing my money and keeping track of my spending but I will no longer buy the iCloud syncing due to the lack of professionalism of the programming staff being accurate in their duties. I think that the staff doesn’t use the program every day like I do. If they did the problem would have been several year’s ago. The best thing for any company to do is to become a customer of their product. I SHOULD BE PAID FOR RATING THIS APPLICATION AND THE DESKTOP APPLICATION.!
