The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Hi there.
What can happen if you gave your ID num to them?
I have recieved the same sms... mmm what to do
I have also received the same SMS saying that I have won R95000 and must buy R350 worth of MTN airtime from Checkers or Pep Stores in order to activate my ticket. Thereafter I must SMS my details to Mr Paul Benson's cell phone [protected] for the information to be given through to their payment department. I also had two options of how I want to receive my payment.
My father have received the same SMS saying that he have won R95000 and he must buy R180 worth of MTN airtime from garage, Checkers or Pep Stores in order to activate his ticket. Thereafter he must SMS his details to Mr Paul Benson's cell phone [protected] for the information to be given through to their payment department. he also had two options of how he wanted to receive his payment.
I have also received this sms. I have paid the registration and administration fee of R360 MTN airtime. They said my money will be transferred on Monday, 14/12/2009. They contacted me yesterday, Monday, to say that I must pay an amount of R4000 insurance before the money will be paid over. Luckily I have not done this yet. I send them and sms requesting documentation and received an e-mail with an award winning certificate as well as an insurance certificate. This all looks very real. I have not paid the said R4000 insurance money and requested them via return e-mail this morning to send me contact details of their insurance company as well as the company head office. I have contacted Nokia SA yesterday and they said that they do not have any such promotions at the moment.
Please can someone advise me some more about this and if possible where can I find out about the authenticity of the documents send to me?
I received an sms stating:Congratulations, your number was among the lucky winners on the NOKIA YEARLY PROMOTION. You won R250000.00. Ticket number 0166P. Call Mark Luis on [protected] for your cash prize from 08am to 6pm.
I contacted the person who answered the number as Mark Luis and asked from where i was calling and what number and for the ticket number.
After supplying this info he said i was to purchase 2 x MTN recharge vouchers for R180 = R360.00. I was to sms the pin numbers with my cell number, ticket number and banking account number, Initials and age and fax number to him to activate the ticket.
They would make payment to my account before close of day.
After searching the Nokia UK site i found no such promotion and believe this to be a fraud scam. I would appreciate comment from both Nokia and MTN in this regard as i am continuing with criminal proceedings against this person, unless otherwise confirmed by either MTN or Nokia.
Regards
Taryn Bannister
I am surprised that in this day and age people still fall for these scams. I received exactly the same sms and not for 1 minute did i start or even think about any plans to spend these "winnings". As such, it comes as no surprise that it is a scam. What did irritate me immensely, was the fact that this email came through at 5am this morning disrupting my sleep and waking my infant. I therefore want to know exactly what nokia is or intends on doing about this fraudulent activity as it is their name which is being used in all the smses noted above and i cannot see that they would find it acceptable to be associated with this type of activity.
On Tuesday 2 Feb 2010 at 01:32 I received exactly the same sms as Taryn Bannister. The amount and ticket no is the same. Only to call agent Martins Williams on [protected]. He said i was to purchase 2 x MTN recharge vouchers for R180 = R360.00. Sms the airtime voucher numbers with my postal address to his cell no. My R250, 000.00 cheque will be delivered the next day.
Nokia please race this person and bring him to book.

i received an sms stating : congratulation! your no was among the lucky winners on the NOKIA YEARLY PROMOTION. You won, R95, 000. ticket number 0115P. call [protected]. For your cash prize. To which i called a certain mr mark Who ordered me to buy two mtn vouchers for R180 each totaling R360 to activate my ticket. i did just that but i started to smell a rat after a certain mr Jackson asked for more money to pay for the transfers. I then told him instantly to 'go to hell' since his tone was more of a Nigerian national. I asked him his mother tongue and said he was a venda but he got it all wrong because myself being a zimbabwean can speak fluent venda, to which he withdrew his statement and said he was a shona tribe zimbabwean speaking venda- to my horror he was nothing but a fraudster. NOKIA IS LETTING PEOPLE DOWN OR ONE OF ITS MANAGEMENT STAFF IS UP TO THIS SCAM. STEVEN NYONI
I have also received a sms saying that I have won R150 000 and to claim my prize phone +[protected] with ref no 0155P. I immediately knew that this was was a scam, so please look out for this number.

It is sad that in this day and age people inflict and cause pain and problems for innocent people. Some may be terrible financial trouble and will grab this opportunity as way out. Look out for these scams and try to gain as much info regarding these sort of things to protect yourself and others against it.
It is a pity i did not check the internet before falling for the scam, I bought the R275.00 voucher and gave the number to the Marlene Gilroy. It is bad to think i was so desperate to think it is so easy, Please i would like to inform people out there. But that is nothing... after i gave them the voucher number and realized i was the April fool. yes (01.04.2010) she phoned back again to ask me to go to a Shoprite money market and deposit R820.00 for insurance to transfer my money, lucky for me i did not fall for that one, i do not have the money to waste, and they are so low as to take money from people who has children to take care of. But i hope that R275.00 makes them happy, and i know that what comes around goes around.
Just an FYI from my side, the prize money has now jumped to R250 000.00 and the scam details are a Mr Maurice Anderson @ [protected]

Here is a copy of the email I received:- Congratulation your number was among the lucky winners on the NOKIA YEARLY PROMOTION. You have won R250, 000. Ticket no. 0166P, Call Lee [protected]. For your cash prize.
I phoned the number and spoke to Lee, he asked if I would like a cheque or have my money deposted, I told him I would like a cheque, I was then told that I would receive my money the following day, he told me to purchase two (2) MTN vouchers for R180.00 each. I told him that I was not a MTN subscriber that I used Vodacom. He said that I should buy the airtime vouchers from Shoprite, Checkers or Pep Stores and then email the vouchers numbers to him with the following details;- My name and ID no with my street address and postal address: the airtime voucher numbers.
I sent an sms asking if this was a hoax or not. I never got a reply. This was last week on Wednesday. I still have not heard from them.
If this is a scam what is Nokia doing about it? How were they able to find all these cell phone numbers, is there a data bank with easy access to all cell phone numbers?
Please inform me via return email

I'm also sick of sms's that say you have to unsubscribe or will be charged up to R15.00 a month when we don't even ask for services from these people ! (and you only figure this out if you read the small / tiny print what a con!
Come on Nokia etc and all you service providers in SA .. DO SOMETHING about these cons now already .
Friends, note that if you did NOT pay for something with the intension to WIN, you can be 100% sure that it is a SCAM! The problem is that if you never got to do with it before or nobody told you about such a thing you might not know that it is a scam. This kind of information needs to be made PUBLIC on TV and RADIO and I strongly feel that the network operators can from time to time make their customers aware of these things. RS
I Mhlengi Mbhele of Vosloorus also received similar SMS on the 26/07/2010 but no payment has been made to my account, so Noikia and MTN must clear their names in this circulating SMS scam, I'm so dissappointed.

This freak people must be traced and captured immediately because they doing this as a business which some of us think nokia company or employees has connections to make thier extra income since Nokia Company shows no concern about this problem which cost people a lot.If it showed its concern this thing would have stoped past years...help with this problem
