I went in to my local Old Navy store...
They greeted me right as I entered the door with "Welcome to Old Navy!"
I smiled...continued...not two minutes later I was approached by an employee who asked if she could help me find anythnig. I said no, and turned away. She went on giving me her name and said to 'holler' at her if I needed any help.
I then found some clothes, and this guy came up and said he could take everythnig to the fitting room for me. I hate feeling like that! like I can't do things myself, and he even asked for my name...I thought it was way too personal, but i gave it to him anyway.
Then in the fitting room, the other guy asked me probably 3 times if I wanted to get an account with them. I kept saying no.
I was greeted again probably 3 more times on my way from the fitting room to the registers. It was annoying!
These people are way too happy, energetic and friendly for me. I think I'll shop online instead.
I have to say as an old navy employee this kind of attidude really upsets me. We get complained on iff we dont talk to the customer and we get comlained on if we do talk to the customer. How about this each and every person who wants to complain go try working retail for one month you'll change your view...oh and the customer is NOT always right thank you
I agree so much with you Nikki!I work for Old Navy and my manager is constantly drilling us for ONC's and Greeting customers. Its such a hassel to be nice and refold everything that customers keeping unfolding and throwing it back on the table or even the floor.
You should shop for your clothes at Wal-mart if you want to be treated like crap. It's called service. Get over it.
How is this bad again? Good customer service is better than being treated like crap in my opinion. I work for Old Navy and we are drilled on for not being happy enough. If you want crappy service, like Carole said, go to Wal-mart. We care about our customers, and like to show it. And as for the name giving for the fitting room, we have to reserve your room for your clothing, so having your name is good so we don't mix up your clothes. Be happy that we show you we care, and not shun you down like Wal-mart. ;D
I don't work for old navy but at my job we are expected to greet the customer as they walk in the door and help them and be very friendly.Lady you sound like an unhappy person who is just a ###.Im sorry but you sound like one.You should be happy you had someone wanting to help you and not ignoring you or being rude.Shut up seriously.
Ive worked for old navy for a while now and Its our job to constantly greet customers, because if we dont our scores go down, its called customer service lady, and If youve got a problem with it you have no buisness even shopping in the first place, and well you just seem like a ###, I really dislike customers like you but heaven forbid i tell you that instead i have to put on a fake ###ing smile while you ### up all my hard work and act like you dont make me wanna go insane, well have a nice day and thanks for infesting our store with your rudness!
I am a 16 year Old Navy employee, and I have to disagree with the complaint made. When Old Navy employees are hired they are put through a vigorous training, that involves constant drilling of the idea that we need to make the customers happy. It is in our code to say hello to every customer and make sure that the customer has access to help if it is necessary. We are constantly reminded that we are to ask for ONC´s, because it is a part of our job, not to be annoying. Personally I would prefer to have friendly people constantly asking me question, than opposed to rude people that would not even give me the time of day. If friendliness is a problem for you then perhaps no store can offer you what you need, and maybe online is the way to go for you. If happy people bother you then the world must be a scary place for you. I apologize that you had such an awful experience at the store, but perhaps it was not something the employees did, we are only trying to help. :)
Have a wonderful day full of smiles!
I worked for Old Navy and totally hated it. The management was awful at my job (I'm not saying this for everyone of them) and if I didn't greet every customer and offer them a bag, I was yelled at. Once I was helping a customer find something and I got yelled at for not saying Hi to the guy that was behind me. I don't like bugging people for Old Navy Cards when they said No in the first place. So I quit and got a better job with better benefits and better pay. I say don't work there unless you are a sales person and can sell cards to people that don't need them. The moto at our store was that trashy people (who will get turned down anyways, but still raise our score) are the ones to ask. They always get suckered in. And I thought this was unethnical.
I work for old navy. and i agree with what every one has said so far. Trust me lady we dont like being up your butt with everything. but if it keeps me my job and keeps my manager off my butt then guess what?! your getting me being happy and perky and energetic so deal with it! and btw the 2 seconds it takes you to mess up that perfect pile of shirts it will take me 10 min to refold it! so yea we dont like costumers who dont want our help because you mess everything up!
Honestly i worked at old navy and it was annoying to me to keep hearing my fellow employees say hi, hi, hi, and hi. The sales associates i worked with weren't even happy people. But the managers are so aggresive and worried about getting their damn scores up then having a nice working environment. A few of my managers even had no idea of how to talk to people. Almost everyone i started with quit by now including me. I was so stressed out working there. I am so happy now that I dont have to take that anymore. Oh and another thing..a guy i worked with through a magazine at my face on my break for no reason. My managers heard about it and didn't do a thing and the kid still works there. Definately not a place i would reccomend someone to work at (Trumbull, CT store 5862)
exactly [censor] idiots like you who dont [censor]en keep their reciepts
we might not get paid that much but we are working we do have jobs, i be6t your one of those crack head drunks on welfare suck my baqlls hoe bag
Wow. It is too bad that this much negativity surrounds so many people... "At Will" Emplyee's have the right to leave any job if they are unhappy and for someone to not do the reasearch in the first place to Ensure that the job THEY are taking is going to be enriching on Any level is the fault of the employee not the employer. As a retail manager I have had conversations with direct reports that have been good and bad but the point of them is to be sure that everyone is on the same page and consistently productive. If you do not Believe in the goals and ambitions of the company then you should leave. It was a mistake. Learn from it, and Move on. If you are not good at your job then you are probably going to hear about it from your employer but I am sure "yelling" is an exageration of the situation. In 7 years of retail management the only yelling I have observed has been two instances (count them "2") of customers when they feel that they are Not Being Heard but with management skills of people have been difused to conversations afterwards with a conclusion to the initial problem. Retail is not for everyone. Decide for yourself and dont involve yourself in a proffession that is not the right fit. It is your choice. Old Navy is not bad. Bottom line.
It depends on the management you cannot say all old navy jobs are bad. my store is AMAZING the managers are just amazing and like our best friends. we get pizza parties and prizes all the time, and the BEST discounts ever! I love my team and most of the people have been working there for years. it's always fun, we have pj days and other spirit days and our management just generally cares about us. since they care about us, we offer them amazing scores. clearly my store has it down. I LOVE WORKING FOR OLD NAVY as the rest of my store does too. remember each store has over 50 employees so stand out and be amazing... do your job right! or you'll just blend in with the rest of them. most of the people complaining about working at old navy were ### employees in the first place.
If Old Navy expects their employees to be fake happy and "care" about the customer they need to pay them more than min wage. I don't understand how anyone could love a minimum wage job and having to deal with peoples stupidity all day long. So at least the employees were trying to be friendly and helpful to the OP, even if they were annoying. Dealing with the public is tough and the customer feels they are always right (when usually they are wrong). Because these types of employees don't require much specialized knowledge and are seen as replaceable, managers will always side with customers and not the employee. So really I'm just saying that the fact that the workers were trying to be helpful and treat the OP good is surprising considering the horrible money they make and the fact they aren't treated all that great.
I think this may be the first time I've heard of a store being "too friendly." Jeez, these poor people can't catch a break! I'm sure if no one acknowledged your presence, we’d be reading a complaint about how “mean and rude” the employees are at Old Navy. Sorry Old Navy employees--seems as though you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t!
We wanted to pursues two pairs of twill pants.. I had asked if there was any discounts.. Haily was very rude and said no.. It's full price.. When I pointed out that it was 20% off she still said no it wasn't.. I will never shop at old navy again.. Haily the manger does not know what she is doing... And very rude.
