OpticsPlanet Review: Deceptive Pricing and Frustrating Returns Process
I've been a customer of OpticsPlanet for quite some time now and have spent a lot of money on their website. However, I have recently decided to stop shopping with them for a few reasons that have been bothering me for a while.
The biggest issue I have with OpticsPlanet is their returns process. I had ordered a stock in a specific color, but when it arrived, it was the wrong color. I immediately contacted them and received an RMA to return the item. I sent it back the same day I received it, but it took over a month for them to process the return and issue a credit to my account. I had to contact them multiple times during this period, and each time they gave me a different excuse for the delay. They even accused me of already spending the credit, even though I hadn't made any orders since the one I was returning. When they finally issued the credit, it was for less than the value I was due. I believe they make the refund process so difficult that most people will just give up. I eventually gave up on getting the last few dollars back, used up the credit they issued, and decided never to order from them again.
Apart from the returns issue, there are a few other things that have been bothering me about OpticsPlanet. Firstly, their pricing can be deceptive. They often show a discount on the price for items that they are actually selling at MSRP. So, if you do decide to purchase through them, make sure to shop around first to check if you're getting a good deal. Secondly, they use DHL to ship items that ultimately arrive via USPS. I live just two states away from where they ship from, and what should take three days max by USPS ends up taking 10+ days. DHL typically takes five days from the time it's ready for pick up to getting to their distribution center, which is still two states away. Then they sit on the package for a couple of days before transferring it over to USPS. In the end, DHL doesn't get the package any closer but just adds an extra week to the shipping time.
Overall, I'm disappointed with OpticsPlanet's returns process and their pricing tactics. The shipping issue is also frustrating, but it's not a deal-breaker for me. I hope they can improve their returns process and be more transparent with their pricing in the future. Until then, I'll be taking my business elsewhere.
Disappointing Experience with OpticsPlanet: Misrepresented Shipping Times and Lack of Customer Service
I recently had an experience with OpticsPlanet that left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I ordered a product that was shown to be in stock and the website indicated that it would ship in 23-32 days. However, a few days after placing my order, the shipping time changed to over 100 days. I was willing to wait, but 45 days later, the shipping time was delayed even further to over 250 days from the date of my order.
I decided to look for another configuration of the same product and found one that was also shown to be in stock and shipping in 23-32 days. However, the website indicated that a different color was on backorder, but not the one I wanted to order. So, I placed the order and the next day, the shipping time was delayed again to over 200 days.
I was frustrated and confused, so I reached out to customer service to try to understand what was happening. I explained the situation and expressed my frustration, but the agent I spoke with simply gave me a generic response about the manufacturer being behind on orders. I tried to explain that my complaint was not about the manufacturer, but about the website misrepresenting the shipping times. However, the agent was unable to offer any solutions or pass on my feedback to leadership.
I was disappointed by the lack of customer service and the apparent culture of just wanting to take customers' money without addressing their concerns. It seems that either the website is not updating correctly or OpticsPlanet is intentionally misrepresenting their shipping times. Either way, it is not a good look for the company.
Overall, I was left feeling frustrated and disappointed by my experience with OpticsPlanet. I hope that they will take steps to address these issues and improve their customer service in the future.
Disappointing Experience with OpticsPlanet's Customer Service: A Cautionary Tale
I recently had an experience with OpticsPlanet that left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I had ordered two products, one of which was the Crimson Trace Laserguard Pro Laser / 150 Lumen LED White Light. Unfortunately, I have yet to receive this product, despite my credit card being billed for it on November 28th, 2022.
After receiving confusing package delivery notifications from FedEx, I decided to call OpticsPlanet on December 8th to inquire about the status of my order. I was concerned that the package had been delivered and taken by someone else. However, when I spoke with a representative from OpticsPlanet's "customer service" department, I was told that the product had not yet been delivered and was still in Texas.
I was also informed that the other product I had ordered had been shipped directly from OpticsPlanet and delivered by UPS, while the Crimson Trace had been shipped by one of their vendors and delivered by FedEx. The representative suggested that I keep an eye out for a white truck with the FedEx logo on the side.
Despite making two more phone calls to OpticsPlanet, I was not able to get any further information about the status of my order. On December 23rd, I was finally emailed a Carrier Claim Form, which I promptly filled out and returned to OpticsPlanet on December 26th. However, I have yet to hear back from them since sending in the form.
Overall, I am extremely disappointed with the level of customer service I received from OpticsPlanet. It seems that they do not have a functioning customer service department, as I was unable to get any useful information about my order despite making multiple phone calls. I am now considering filing a complaint with my credit card company in order to get my money back.
I would caution anyone considering ordering from OpticsPlanet to think twice before doing so. My experience has left me feeling frustrated and disappointed, and I would not recommend this company to anyone. It is also worth noting that OpticsPlanet has denied this review on their website and is deleting it from their Facebook page, which suggests that they are more concerned with censoring negative feedback than addressing customer concerns.
Disappointing Experience with OpticsPlanet: Poor Customer Service and Shipping Delays
I found OpticsPlanet's website and saw that they had the scope rings I needed, so I placed an order for two of them. The next day, I got an email saying that a shipping label was created. I was excited to receive my order, but for two weeks, all I could see on the tracking page was that a shipping label was created. Unfortunately, I missed an important shooting match during this time because my order was not delivered. I was disappointed and frustrated.
After two and a half weeks, I decided to give them a call on a Saturday to ask about my order. The first time I called, I got disconnected after they answered. When I called back, the lady who answered said it was funny that I got disconnected. I was not impressed with their customer service. I asked for a refund, but they refused because their policy was to receive the returned item first and then give store credit. I explained that I didn't have the item because they hadn't shipped anything, and I just wanted my money back. I even begged them to return my money and said I didn't want to do business with them anymore. However, they still refused.
I asked to speak to the manager, but the lady said the manager was busy and put me on hold. When she came back, she told me they had twenty in stock. I was skeptical because it seemed like they never had any in stock, and they just held my money until they did. They made me miss my event and caused me stress because of their poor business practices. Finally, on the following Monday, the website showed that my item had shipped, and I received it on Thursday. It took over three weeks to get my order, and I felt like I was lied to.
I don't want to tell anyone what to do, but I will never buy from OpticsPlanet again, and I will tell everyone in the shooting community about my bad experience with them. This was a small purchase of $62.00, and I buy thousands of shooting gear a year. I hope they feel like it was worth the small amount of profit they made off of my order because they will lose lots of business for this blunder. I believe that treating customers with honesty and respect is essential for any business to succeed.
OpticsPlanet.com Customer Service Review: Professional and Courteous Despite Delay
I recently made a purchase on OpticsPlanet.com on April 22, 2021. However, I was informed that one of the items I ordered would take 5-7 weeks to arrive. After waiting patiently for some time, I decided to reach out to the customer service team via email on June 8, 2021, as I was unable to call them.
To my disappointment, I received a response stating that they were unable to get ahold of their warehouse. This was followed by several more emails from the customer service team, all with the same message that they were unable to get an update on the status of my order.
Despite the inconvenience and delay, the team at OpticsPlanet.com remained polite and professional in their responses. They apologized for the delay and assured me that they were doing everything they could to get an update on my order.
On July 13, 2021, I received another email from the customer service team, informing me that they had forwarded the issue to another source in an attempt to get an answer on the order. They promised to update me accordingly via email on the status, even if they did not hear back from the warehouse.
While the delay in receiving my order was frustrating, I appreciated the efforts of the customer service team at OpticsPlanet.com to keep me informed and updated on the status of my order. Despite the lack of communication from the warehouse, the team remained professional and courteous throughout the process.
Overall, I would recommend OpticsPlanet.com to others looking to make a purchase. While delays can happen, the customer service team at OpticsPlanet.com is dedicated to ensuring that their customers are informed and satisfied with their purchases.

Item not delivered, not processing refund
Placed an order (order #: 17833704, reference #: 101-0106-247338) on 01/06/2021 for an urgently needed item with full order amount and shipping charges paid. Shipping initiated on 01/14/2021 with usps, tracking no. Cj458223206us, we have not received the item yet and from 01/18/2021 onward we are getting the same tracking status as "your item was processed through our chicago il international distribution center facility on january 18, 2021 at 11:07 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination". We were mailing to and live chatting with optics planet continuously for solution, they kept on communicating of starting of lost package claim process after 20 business days (excluding saturday and sunday) from 01/18/2021. We kept on writing that we can not wait for lost package claim process, we need urgent re-shipping or refund. From last week we are writing to them requesting only for refund, as the item is no more needed, one and half months have passed and we have already lost the purpose of the item. On 02/16/2021 they have sent the carrier claim form to sign to start lost package claim process, we have signed and sent immediately and following up for refund. Today we have received this mail message, "when attempting to file the claim, the customs information that was provided to usps stated the manifest was"bibles, bibles". Unfortunately usps will not accept a claim for the order due to the invoice not matching the manifest that was provided. For additional assistance, usps will need to be contacted". We are very much disappointed with the treatment we have been receiving from optics planet, item is not delivered to us, instead of refund we are being dragged into other processes. We area startup, we have lost the business opportunity as we have not received the item on time but a big amount (for us) got blocked for one-and-half months and we are not seeing any light also that when the same will be refunded.
Desired outcome: Refund of the amount paid on priority without keeping us in loop of Lost Package Claim or any other processes they need to follow.
I too, made the mistake by ordering from Optics Planet. They won't response after ordering. Shows they gave tracking, but USPS never received item. Only good thing is I used Paypal. So I will be filing a claim through them. I'm contacting the Better Business. Bureau Ana Attorney General. Someone needs to shut them down, they are a scam.
Stay away
I've grown incredibly frustrated with the level of incompetence that Optics Planet is able to furnish when it comes to customer service and their shipping. I understand that there are extenuating circumstances which can increase wait times and delay shipping, but when a company announces that they have expanded operations to keep up with demand, you would expect customer service responses within their newly stated timeframe. But instead, Optics Plant show an operational level quite as if they have decreased staff. It has been one month since my email for a replacement due to shipping damage and I have still not heard back anything despite Optics Planet stating that the wait time for response is 5 days. I have also been waiting for a package for the last 12 days which reportedly shipped out but the tracking information has not been updated beyond "Acceptance." I have also sent an email about that and have yet to hear a reply. Optics Planet strives to ship out all in-stock items within 3 days of ordering but it took 5 days for my "in-stock" item to ship and then the status has not even been updated. Be wary of Optics Planet and their approach at handling any situation. Their current operations model is "screw the consumer, but our scapegoat is COVID-19."
They marked both my items shipped in my order. The small inexpensive item came alone. The other item did not come. The missing but marked shipped item even shows extended back order and unknown eta on their website. They still marked it shipped and delivered with my small item. I can’t call or even email anyone from the company. Very frustrated that I can’t even contact anyone to get this resolved. They are not accepting calls and when you send an email it says cannot complete must try back later. Angry and Disappointed to say the least!
Dishonest business practices
During the middle of a pandemic or shortage, you would think businesses would find it in their heart to try and help their customers as much as possible. Unfortunately opticsplanet is not one of those companies. On multiple occasions they have listed items as in stock or estimated to ship with in a week, only to change the time of their shipping to months on end right before the item is scheduled to ship. This is not even specific only to the current 2020 pandemic, this has been their practice for years on end. I have personally been on the phone with one of their employees discussing a product delivery time and the item shows in stock but the person on the other end of the line says they have no idea when the product will be available. Dont be fooled by their false advertising and criminal behavior or the fake 5 star reviews on here by im assuming is either employees themselves or family members of employees. optics planet does not care about your needs, they care about their bottom line and will do whatever that can to make a buck. That unfortunately means lie

These people are sleezy. The item sent is not as described. Does not fit at all. Then they take forever to start the return process. Still have not received the money yet. They also will not pay back the full amount. Trying to keep ten dollars for shipping. I would not have asked for the piece of garbage to be shipped in the first place if the description was correct. Do business elsewhere. Once again, these people are sleezy and they're slime.
Horrible customer service
I had a very unsatisfactory experience with Optics Planet shipping and customer service department. SHIPPING: I placed an order with Optics Planet for a new GG&G mount for a PVS-14, using Amazon's site (sold and fulfilled by Optics Planet). I received what appeared to be a used and incomplete Sightmark mount that was repackaged in a GG&G container. CUSTOMER SERVICE: I contacted CS and explained said problem. The CS representative did not believe my complaint and/or that the used Sightmark mount was sent from Optics Planet. I offered to send pictures of the product received, the packaging and shipping label. CS refused to accept the pictures. CS stated that Optics Planet will conduct an investigation (without my pictures). Afterwards, Optics Planet will determine how to resolve the problem. I explained that I needed the mount for a scheduled training; however, CS refused to give a deadline and expected me to wait patiently. I contacted Amazon. Amazon contacted Optics Planet to attempt to resolve my complaint in a reasonable time, with negative results. After their phone call with Optics Planet, Amazon issued me an immediate refund for the unfair treatment by Optics Planet.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
Holding money for cancelled purchase
I ordered digital camera online and my credit card was charged immediately. in 2 days they cancelled my purchase and since that time i cannot get my money back. customer service admitted mistake by not cancelling actual transaction, but 3 days later they say that my credit card was not charged because they never charge until they ship the product.
i have bank statement showing the charge and my back confirmed that merchant made a charge.
this company is fraudulently holding my funds and i just want to make everyone aware not to trust them
Broken and wrong product
Ordered prescription Aviators from Optics Planet (www.opticsplanet.com) on 8/12/2012 to make sure I had them before a vacation in Sept, order opticsplanet-2093511. Order received on 8/30/2012, it was all bent and broken, completely unusable. I re-ordered a new pair, different model, but same prescription. On August 31st, got an email from a Callie K., saying she was putting a hold on the order because I had put a note about needing it very soon, before I leave on vacation and if they could not deliver it then cancel the order. I told her my comments were correct, and that it was because of damage to the original order; she said that she did not know about the original order, but that due to the damage, she would get me the new pair before I left for vacation. I confirmed to her that the model number on the glasses was changing and was she sure I would get the correct one. On 10/11/2012 I received a shipment, and of course, they were the wrong model, the day before my vacation. I then reached out to Optics Planet (www.opticsplanet.com) again, and received a message from a Heather Harwell, a so called eyewear expert. As if the experience wasn't bad enough, this person is absolutely terrible. She proceeded to tell me that they would work on another pair for me, and said it was their mix up. I told her, no thanks, I am leaving on vacation the next day. She then sent an email saying that had I read the prescription eyewear policy; obviosuly intimating I was on the hook for the price. Sorry, but when you send me broken galsses, then the wrong glasses on top of that when I could have gone local and got my glasses in time for vacation you are not getting a dime from me. She then wrote to ship them back to them; sorry, that's their problem, send me a label. Received another email from her saying that I would be receiving an email with a label and they would credit me back when they recieved it. I then sent an email asking what is the possiblity they could really rush these, and ship them to me where I am going on vacation. This is again where Heather Harwell struck again; she said, if I would have listened to her in the first place they could have done it but she already spent time talking to the lab to get them to take the glasses back; tip for Optics Planet, people don't care how you are setup, if you are the labl or not, your job is to make it right. She said if I wanted the glasses I would have to go on and order again; I guess I should not have given them a third opportunity to do their job right. Horrible company, poor service, don't do business with them. I have provided links to the entire communication.

I placed an order on Dec 03, 2013 for a Gunvault nanovault portable handgun safe NV300 from Optics Planet (www.opticsplanet.com) that was on sale for $26.95+shipping charges 49.90 and normally around $76.85 order no. 2854643 on 03-12-2013
I ordered several items from optics planet last night. This morning I received a conformation email saying that one of the items will ship in 1 or 2 weeks, one in 1-2 days and the other has no future availability and till not information tracking he told 1-2 days everything said same word.
I intended on purchasing everything at once, not piece mealing it together. I called optics planet and was told one item will ship in 1-2 days. I asked to cancel the order, but he said mail that “Your order has been canceled per your request and will not be processed any further. Any payments made will be credited back to you and any pre-authorizations made will clear according to your bank’s policy.” And after another mail me he said mail that “We have not captured any funds from your account so no refund is necessary. We also voided the authorization so, all funds should still be in your account.”
Please help me this solve the problem and refund the amount

Dear Gregg,
I wanted to extend out a sincere apology for the experience you have recently encountered with us.
One of our main goals is to provide top of the line customer service and an overall shopping experience
with each customer that places an order with us. However, there can be times where situations can
go in different directions based upon a small error. I have invested time in researching your particular
situation and have discovered that upon you wanting to have your order remade one of our opticians
made the error in not switching your frame model from the RB3025 to the RB3026. We encourage quick
and accurate actions to solve issues – however, the accuracy part fell short this time. While no business
or person is perfect, we understand the frustration but appreciate the opportunity you had given us to
correct the mistake.
We built our policies to protect both the company and our customers. While I agree in this case that
it should have been reviewed more carefully in your particular situation, our intention is not meant
to blame or accuse you of being stuck with a product you are not happy with. Nonetheless, a remake
was offered because here at OpticsPlanet we aim for guaranteed customer satisfaction. After you had
rejected the remake, and requested a refund, OpticsPlanet did their best to negotiate with our lab to get
you every penny back. Lastly, I am sorry that we did not take you up on your offer in correcting the issue
after you requested a refund. I will be contacting you shortly to see if you are willing to give us another
shot in getting your sunglasses out to you.
Return/exchange policy
Customer Service SUCKS. Actually, Non-Existent. On May 25, I purchased a Leupold Mark 4 rifle scope for $1, 200. The scope was received on May 30. On June 3, the scope was mounted to a LaRue Tactical QD Mount. The weapon was bore-sited and one (1) round was fired to insure accuracy. At that time, it was determined that the scope magnification was not adequate for the need. Scope was carefully removed, repackaged, and sent back for exchange to OpticsPlanet with appropriate RMA. The above actions were taken to make sure the scope worked properly, based on the following OP Customer Satisfaction Statement:
"We want your experience with us to be easy and hassle-free. If, for any reason, you are not completely satisfied with a purchase, you may return most items within 30 days of receipt for an exchange or full refund".
The product was returned to OP on June 6. On June 8, I received and email stating that 1. Item appears to be used. 2. Item appears to be tested. 3. Scope has been mounted. 4. Ring marks and scratches present on scope tube. The email also states, "If we do not hear back from you within the next 7 days, we will assume that you are no longer interested in receiving your merchandise back and will dispose of it without initiating credit". Duh, how on earth would one check to see if the product even works, unless it is mounted? This is not a $200 scope. I paid more for this rifle scope than many people pay for cars. I have contacted Customer Service and they are rude and unprofessional. I told them, just ship the scope back to me. I have since called them back and management won't even return my call. Now that's Customer Service. The return/exchange policy leaves a lot to be desired. I will never do business with this company and I will suggest to all my associates, NOT TO BUY FROM OP, unless you are ready to be ripped off.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Similar complaints with small ticket item. It arrived broken. By the time it arrived (two weeks), and I had informed them of the problem, repeated the request for customer service (after they did not respond to my initial request despite robo E-mail declaring they would respond within 48 hours), received a belated request for me to repeat info that somehow did not remain attached to my second request, and received instructions on how to return... the time limit had expired!
I think when Amazon offers UPS pick up and no questions asked on returns, why would you EVER buy anything from Optics planet? Your statement is contradicting at BEST.
" If not completely satisfied…"
How exactly can you determine if you're satisfied with the product without opening it, using it and testing it? You can't, it's impossible. That is false advertising and misleading. In order to determine if I'm satisfied with something, it must be used and tested. To never take anything out of the box makes it impossibility to determine if I'm satisfied with it.
So which one is it? Is it if I'm not satisfied, or is it if it's open I can't get a refund? Right there is enough information on your own website for someone to start a class action lawsuit. Contradicts itself and is basically misleading and you are creating a false pretense for your customers to proceed with the sale.
Legally, it should read, "If you're not completely satisfied with any item that has not been opened." It's general, common knowledge that a 30 day refund policy naturally assumes that the product has been used and tested and has broke, or failed, or something about it was wrong. It is not common to assume that nothing can be returned unless it was never opened and used. To make it worse, you don't even use that wording, it's defective or broken. You actually say if you're just not satisfied with it. Meaning that I can return the item even if it's not effective for broken because I'm just simply not satisfied with it. The terminology you use is very broad and liberal, but the actual policy is very strict and narrow.
I was getting ready to purchase ANOTHER $8000 thermal imaging scope AND a night vision device. I just bought one from you. But after going on the forums bragging about my item and telling them where I bought it, many immediately posted that was a bad mistake because of problems with Optics Planet not returning your money for it. I found that very hard to believe.
So I started doing some investigating. Finds out they are right. I am not having problems with the scope so it probably won't be an issue. But you definitely lost another sale. The thing is, when everyone seems to know something about a company that's bad, that only happens when you have been doing it consistently the wrong way for a lot of years. In other words, word SPREADS.
So glad before I bought the second scope, I thought I would do a little bit of research. So glad I did. Amazon has the exact same scope and their return policy is much more liberal. You lost a sale based upon the fact that you just don't believe in customer service and you state "if you're not satisfied we return the money" but what you really mean is "all sales are final"
I also totally agree on opticsplanet "customer service" or lack thereof. I had the same thing happen and they will never see another dime of my money.
Not shipped items
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT OPTICS PLANET!
They will be nice about telling you that their screw up will take days to weeks to investigate. I purchased a scope, rings and bases from them and they shipped my scope with an invoice showing they shipped the complete order. Now I am stuck they won’t refund my money or ship out the bases. I was told that it could be any number of things that happened. There are only two things that could have happened either they did not ship my order completely or I am lying! That is how I see it anyway.
P.S. I have never had any problems with swfa.com who always gets my orders correct!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
The item picture shows suppressor height sights. It also says "item shipped" and lists barrel. Also in several places before ordering it states barrel as well.
Takes a minimum of two weeks before they ship unless you pay extra for expedited shipping, which is big bucks.
I've never even heard of this place. Why do I have a charge on my credit card from them?
I placed an order for 10 boxes Winchester USA HANDGUN 9mm Luger 115 grain Full Metal Jacket Centerfire Pistol Ammo, 500 Rounds, WW9C
